Just in time for the International Day of the Girl, Delta’s WING Program is helping to inspire more girls to enter fields typically dominated by men.

After being scrapped initially, NASA’s first all-female spacewalk is finally happening and what better way to celebrate girl power than with an all-female flight to NASA? The entire flight was planned and orchestrated entirely by women, including the pilots flying the plane, ramp agents working on the ground, gate agents boarding the flight and women in the tower guiding the aircraft on its way out.

This was Delta’s WING Flight fifth flight since it was founded in 2015. The goal of the program, which flies young girls ages 12-18 from Salt Lake City to NASA in Houston, is to help close the gender gap in aviation. Since the program’s inception, over 600 girls have taken flight with Delta WING.

“We know representation matters. At Delta, we believe you have to see it to be it,” said Beth Poole, General Manager – Pilot Development, who helped start Delta’s WING Flight in 2015 and has helped plan the flights ever since. “We’re taking ownership to improve gender diversity by exposing girls at a young age and providing a pipeline so that 10 years from now, they will be the pilots in the Delta cockpit inspiring generations of women who follow.”

After landing in Houston the girls were invited to tour NASA’s Mission Control Center, Building 9, Johnson Space Center and Space Center Houston. They also had lunch with Jeanette Epps, NASA astronaut and aerospace engineer.

“It didn’t seem realistic to go after a career in aviation, but today I realized, ‘Hey, I can do this too,'” said Katelyn J., age 17, a 12th grader from Advanced Learning Center.

This was the first flight for many of the Salt Lake City students. Delta partnered with schools that have STEM or aviation programs to provide a real path for interested future female aviators. “I never would have thought I would have had this experience. I’m really grateful for my parents who have made this possible and inspired my love of aviation,” said Karyanna H.,16, an 11th grader at Jordan Technical Institute. “It’s such an exciting time to be in STEM. There’s so much left for us to discover.”

Having some little handy helpers in the kitchen is always fun, but as mom Jennifer Garner learned you have to take that help with a grain of salt––or in this case “rosefart.”

Garner shared an Instagram post featuring a picture of her kitchen counter with labeled spice jars lined up. At first glance all appears normal, but when you take a closer look at the labels you’ll notice something a little unusual. Instead of names like “rosemary” and “parsley” the jars feature monikers like “rosefart” and “parspee.”

In the post Garner explains the “unique” names. “Mom: Will you please make labels for my spices?, 7 year old boy: Yup.” Sounds about right. From her hilarious posts on parenting, it’s clear this mama of three has a pretty good sense of humor and now she can enjoy cooking with a side of laughs.

Do your mini chefs love helping out in the kitchen? It can be a lot fun to cook with your kids, but it’s not always easy to get them to follow the recipe. If you left things up to them, you’d end up with some very creative concoctions, much like the recipes in this cookbook written by preschoolers.

Twitter user Jordan Adams shared the finished pages from a cookbook created by his nephew Ethan’s pre-K class. While these dishes might not be entirely edible, Gordon Ramsey would definitely give them an apron for sheer out-of-the-box creativity.

One of the best examples is Ethan’s own recipe for “Eggs.” The ingredients include “pancakes, sugar and skittles.” No eggs, obviously, and all of the ingredients should be procured from a “Texas Roadhouse.” The prep time is one hour, but the cook time is listed a mere “two seconds.”

Now for the instructions, which read, “First you put pancakes and then sugar and that’s it. You can cook it, but you can go to my house and I will give you eggs because my mom makes eggs all the time. You can eat them with a spoon. Don’t put anything on them because that’s how you makes eggs, with nothing.”

Another recipe for pancakes includes just one solitary ingredient, “salt” and all you have to do is “get a thingy from the house and you put it in the hot thingy. Turn on the hot thingy and it burns so you have to be careful. You make like, something and put it in and it cooks.”

The internet’s favorite recipe by far, however, is Joe’s Tacos, which turns out to be a recipe for cheesy roll ups because as the directions explain, “First I don’t actually know, I really don’t remember anything. Can I change this to cheesy roll ups? Because they are super easy. There is only 3 stuff you need, white cheese, yellow cheese, and tortilla. I don’t even want to make tacos anymore. I don’t even know how. It is so hard think about tacos. But I can make cheesy roll ups. They are super easy. They come from Taco Bell.”

Delicious.

Decades after its 1996 debut, Blue’s Clues is back with a new name and a new host! Forget about the nostalgia factor, Blue’s Clues and You will entertain and educate your littles in a totally new way.

So what can your preschooler expect from Nickelodeon’s new show? In a world of so-so reboots, Blue’s newest adventures stand out with new CG-animation and so much more.

Along with the new name, Blue’s Clues and You comes with a host who (according to the show’s backstory) is former faves Steve and Joe’s cousin. Josh, who is played by Broadway actor Joshua Dela Cruz, brings the world of the playful pup to an entirely new audience.

Even though the look, the host, the name and the animation are different, fans of the Nick staple may notice some similarities between the various versions of Blue’s Clues. Look for beloved characters such as Tickety Tock, Slippery Soap, Shovel, Pail, Mr. Salt, Mrs. Pepper, Cinnamon, Paprika, Magenta, Sidetable Drawer, Mailbox and the original Thinking Chair. Your preschooler will also meet an updated Handy Dandy Notebook and Josh’s new Handy Dandy Guitar.

6 Easy Recipes Your Kids Can Help Make

photo: Agnes Hsu via Hello Wonderful

Let’s be honest—one of your main parenting responsibilities is feeding little humans and sometimes it can be exasperating. Picky eaters, different preferences, early morning and end-of-the-day pressures are just a few things that can turn a family meal into something other than fun. Wishing you had a sous chef? Someone invested in liking the food instead of rejecting it?

There’s a way to outsource some of the cooking without paying someone else to cut the broccoli—and it’s right there under your feet asking what’s for dinner anyway. Here’s the thing: they have to learn to do it themselves sometime. What if sometime could start now?

Here’s how you get there: create your own catalog of easy recipes that kids can actually help with. If you’re working on your PhD in parenting you are likely long on common sense—you want them away from open flames and butcher knives, obviously, but that doesn’t mean they can’t cook. Want some examples? We thought you’d never ask!

  1. Standard Smoothie. Got a blender? Great. Nobody’s allowed to stick their hands in the bottom of it. You knew that. But putting half a banana, 1 cup of fruit, ½ cup of milk (or soy or almond), ½ cup of yogurt, ½ cup of juice, handful of nuts, 1 tbsp. of seeds is pretty darn doable and involves some fun measuring and math. And what do you do? Make sure the top of the blender is on securely. You have one job.
  2. Easy Pan-Toasted Gnocchi. Pasta, without the boiling water. Nice! A pan and low followed by medium heat. You can let go of this one with just a small bit of supervision. Half a minced shallot and a minced clove of garlic. You can even do some minced garlic from a jar to avoid knife work. Heat it lightly until you can smell it. Add fresh gnocchi and turn up the heat to medium. Quick-stir until golden-brown.  Serve with sauce and a veggie of choice. Or don’t!
  3. Antipasto. Just get a big platter or a pretty cutting board and get out of the way. Have your culinary artists lay out an appetizing amount of buffalo mozzarella, olives, salami, roasted peppers, breadsticks, fancy crackers or whatever you’ve got.
  4. Basic pancake batter. Why did you ever think you had to do this alone? One egg gets cracked. Then it’s easy measuring of 1 cup of milk (or soy/almond milk), 1 cup of flour, ½ tsp. of baking powder, ¼ tsp. salt. Whisk it up! Fun adds: mashed banana, chopped pecans, chocolate chips or blueberries. Pro-tip: If you’re freaking out about what’s going to spill where, put them on a step ladder and have them measure in the sink.
  5. Smashed or mashed potatoes. You can deal with the boiling. Then let them do the rest. You can go with butter and milk or just olive oil. Salt and pepper. Someone have some excess energy? Get out the masher.
  6. Guacamole. You can cut and pit them and chop up some garlic, onion and cilantro and/or jalapeno. Cut a lime in half. That’s all you have to do. Let them scoop the avocado into a bowl, add the ingredients and mash it altogether. Couldn’t be easier.

Top Chef Jr., here you come!  Or at least you’re on your way to some less stressful family meals.
