Santa is gaining a very familiar companion in a newly announced sequel to Netflix’s The Christmas Chronicles. Goldie Hawn is joining Kurt Russell in the new movie.

Real life couple Hawn and Russell will be playing the jolliest pair in the North Pole, Mr. and Mrs. Claus. While Netflix just shared a sneak peek, fans will have to wait till next Christmas to see the movie when it debuts during the 2020 holiday season.

The Christmas Chronicles follows the story of a young girl, Kate Pierce, and her brother, Teddy, after they sneak aboard Santa’s sleigh and crash it. Together they must help the jolly old elf in order to save Christmas.

According to the film’s synopsis, The Christmas Chronicles 2 will see Kate returning to the North Pole when a “troublemaker” named Belsnickel “threatens to destroy Christmas forever.”

Disney’s “Frozen 2” Has the Highest Grossing Debut Globally for an Animated Film

What Song Will Replace “Let It Go” in “Frozen 2”?

You weren’t the only one to “phone home” on Thanksgiving. An all-new E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial short debuted on NBC, Syfy and Comcast Xfinity’s website this Thursday—and it gave us all a glimpse into what life is like for the adorable alien, Elliott and the rest of his fam almost 30 years after the original film.

The four-minute-ish film, titled A Holiday Reunion, starts with Elliott’s children finding E.T. As you might remember from the classic flick, the scream-filled exchange is more than reminiscent of the original meet and greet (or rather, meet and shriek) that happened when Elliot and Gertie first saw the alien.

As the short goes on, E.T. gets the chance to experience all kinds of new and exciting 2019 adventures, such as the Internet, virtual reality goggles and Reese’s Pieces cupcakes!

Henry Thomas, the original Elliott, told Deadline, “The audience is going to get everything they want out of a sequel without the messy bits that could destroy the beauty of the original and the special place it has in people’s minds and hearts.”

Even though acclaimed director Steven Spielberg helped the original movie, he didn’t return for the short. Instead, Lance Acord (cinematographer for Lost in Translation and Adaptation) directed A Holiday Reunion.

The welcome piece of nostalgia for the holidays comes to us courtesy of Comcast Xfinity. According to Deadline, Peter Intermaggio, SVP for Marketing Communications, Comcast Cable, said, “Our goal is to show how Xfinity and Sky technology connects family, friends and loved ones, which is so important during the holidays.” Intermaggio also added, “The classic friendship between E.T. and Elliott resonates around the world.”

Anna, Elsa, and Olaf are back—in a big way. Frozen 2 is now a record breaker, bringing in $358.2 million worldwide, according to Deadline!

Even though the initial international box office estimate was well over the $200 million mark, by Monday morning Disney reported totals topping $228 million. Add that to the $130 million domestic total and it looks like Frozen 2 is the highest grossing debut for an animated film globally.

Not only did Frozen 2 break animated opening records, but it also broke Disney’s own record. The sequel is now the largest opening for any Walt Disney Animation Studios release.

If you didn’t brave the crowds to catch the film during its opening weekend, what can you expect? Kristen Bell, the voice of Anna, recently told PEOPLE, “Whatever you think Frozen is, throw it in the trash because this movie is like an epic adventure where everything is seemingly good in Arendelle.”

With the November launch of Disney+ we’re looking forward to streaming all kinds of classic faves. Along with Star Wars, The Avengers, Frozen, Toy Story and other beloved Disney gems, the new network is set to revive a few beloved blockbusters—and according to recent reports, this means a Hocus Pocus sequel!

Collider first reported on the sequel, citing sources who say Disney recently hired Workaholics writer and co-producer Jen D’Angelo to pen the Hocus Pocus 2 script.

While there are no cast confirmations yet, reportedly D’Angelo is trying to nab original film stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy for the sequel.

As of now, the made-for-Disney+ film is still in development. This means there’s no word yet on whether the original Sanderson sisters will play central roles in the new script, what the storyline holds for viewers or the release date.
