While Portland may not have its own NFL team, the Seahawks are as close as it gets. The good news? They’re headed to the Super Bowl for the second year in a row on February 1, which means you now have less than two weeks to get your game-viewing party food together. Get a jump start on the eats by scoring saucy wings, pizzas and mile-high subs from these local restaurants. Just be sure to place your order well in advance (like, today!) since many of these spots will sell out by game day. Flip through the gallery for all the details. Game on!

Snoopy never looked so cool.

The Peanuts’ pooch and other animated characters shaved their heads to show kids who have lost hair to chemotherapy that they are not alone.

The solidarity haircuts emerged from a partnership with the Brazilian cancer charity and hospital operator, GRAACC, as part of a cancer awareness drive in Brazil. Garfield, Olive Oyl and characters from “Adventure Time” and “Rio 2” also sheared their locks for the project.

“I think it will be more normal to see a bald child because everyone will see on TV,” a young girl says after watching the cartoons in a moving video about the project. In another interview, a boy says that he will no longer be ashamed to take off his hat.

Famous cartoons from all over the world have gone bald, sending out the message that a child with cancer deserves to be seen just like any other child,” the Bald Cartoons homepage states.

A few characters appeared with their heads shaved last November, but the campaign was expanded to include 40 characters for a cancer awareness week, Ogilvy Brasil, the agency behind the campaign, wrote in a release.

“We want to reduce all prejudice around the disease,” the agency’s Roberto Fernandez said.

It’s summer and we cannot get enough nicely dressed greens, pickled veggies and the unexpected appearance of wild cards like fruit, not to mention exceptional salads served in unexpected places. (Yes, maybe they should rename Safeco Field…of greens.) Here are five salads that get us hot:

1. If there’s a better $5 Caesar in the city than the beauty at the ballpark, lead us to it. The made-to-order Caesar at Modern Apizza stand in The ‘Pen hits the mark on many levels: chilled, fresh romaine, croutons that are crunchy yet not molar busting, a fantastic dressing and just the right amount of it, a shower of shaved parm and, hey, this salad is HUGE. Score!

2. The beet tartare at Steelhead Diner is a gorgeous nod to the classic raw beef dish. In its dazzling cylindrical presentation, this veggie tartare might even pass for its meaty cousin, but take one bite and there’s no mistaking those tender pink roots. Partnered with blue cheese crumbles and a tangle of frisee, this manages the salad trifecta: sweet, salty, tart.

This easy kids craft project is for those moms and dads with oodles of broken bits of crayons laying around the house (sound familiar?). Instead of letting the broken crayons decay and mark up your drawers, we suggest using them to your creative advantage by making this super fun stained glass craft, which only requires four items. Your kids will beam with pride at their handmade craft and the activity is likely to keep them focused and not jumping off the walls on these long winter days.

What you’ll need:

broken bits, pieces or shavings from crayons

wax paper

a dish towel

an iron

Directions:

1. Cut out two large pieces of wax paper each about 12″ long (or however big you prefer). Take all of your leftover crayons and make a pile of colorful shaving.

2. Lay one piece of wax paper down and place the colorful pieces of shaved crayon onto the wax paper shaped to your kid’s liking. Suggestions: a heart, a butterfly, a bird or anything you or your little one can imagine.

2. Cover the pile with the second piece of wax paper.

3. Plug in the iron to low and let it get toasty (careful for little ones pulling iron cords or touching the iron at all for that matter). Cover the wax paper with a dish towel (if you put the iron directly onto the wax paper itself it will burn). Iron over the shape until it feels melted.

5. Let cool and then take off the protective dish towel and ta-da, your wax paper stained glass creation is made!

6. You can cut your stained glass creation into various shapes (hearts for Valentines Day or shamrocks for St. Patty’s Day) and punch a hole in the top, string some twine through, and hang your stained glass creation from any windowsill.
