It’s spring. The trees are blooming and we’ve figured out a way to dine out amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. So, if you’re up for treating the mom in your life for brunch, here are seven restaurants that will gladly prepare a delicious feast—and serve it to you outdoors if that’s where you prefer to dine. And, they’ve got room for your stroller and a kid-friendly menu! Read on for our top picks of where to eat Mother’s Day brunch in NYC! (And hey, it’s Mother’s Day: you’re going to need to make a reservation!)
Greenpoint : Esme
This charming restaurant features a fully shaded backyard garden, which offers distanced seating among gorgeous bushes, planters and tall trees. If it’s a rainy Mother’s Day, not to worry: The outdoor seating here is protected and curbside seating will be available that day, too. And with such treats as house-made oversized cinnamon roll and eggs Benedict with smoked ham, Tabasco hollandaise and mixed greens, we know moms will be overjoyed to spend part of their special day feasting here.
You can’t go wrong at a Bubby’s brunch any day of the week let alone on Mother’s Day. On Sunday May 9th, every mom will be served a complimentary mimosa, which P.S. pairs perfectly with Bubby's delicious sourdough pancakes (made from a century-old sourdough recipe) or one of its new springtime menu items, such as slice of delectable strawberry rhubarb pie. The outdoor setup at this 30-year-old fave is delightful, too, as its covered and heated—an appealing feature if the temperature dips on mom’s big day.
120 Hudson St. Tribeca 212-219-0666 Online: bubbys.com
At this Italian trattoria, the second location of a restaurant that’s been serving downtown diners for years, the pasta dishes are a definite draw. One is even served in a giant cheese wheel and we know moms will love brunching on the traditional Roman menu items offered here. Book a table in the sidewalk seating area for maximum people watching and, whatever you do, save room for one of their epic desserts.

Rockaway Beach: The Rockaway Hotel
Kyle Knodell
At this funky boutique hotel, which opened during the pandemic, a full brunch buffet will be served 11 AM until 2 PM on Mother’s Day. Seating in the Pool House is heated, covered and fully ventilated and, bonus, immersing yourself into the surf vibe here will do wonders to transport you far away from the hustle-bustle of city life.
When you stop in for brunch at this casual neighborhood eatery, you can rest assured that brunch faves like brioche French toast and house cured smoked salmon and eggs will appeal to evert mom. On Mother’s Day, brunch will be served 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and, best of all, the restaurant’s outdoor space is expanded on the weekends thanks to Open Streets so there’s plenty of open air tables with umbrellas and space for strollers.
Brunch is going to be an all-day affair on Mother’s Day and, cute touch, every mom who dines here will be gifted with a flower. That’s not all, there’s outdoor seating right in front of this authentic Neapolitan pizzeria, which opened in 2009, and all the Kesté pizza favorites (including fried!) are on the menu as well as gluten-free items and a special dessert: tiramisu with peaches. Yum!
Lincoln Square, Nomad, Midtown, East Village: The Smith
Quentin Bacon
Dine at this family favorite and you can go savory—with options like spring asparagus toast with overnight tomatoes, burrata and poached eggs—or sweet—we’re talking vanilla bean French toast with maple butter and caramelized bananas. Outdoor seating at this brasserie is available at every location, especially the Lincoln Square restaurant which boasts an extra-large sidewalk dining space.
2021 is looking a little more promising, and families are making plans for upcoming birthdays and celebrations. Even if it’s small, we’re sure there’s a party in your future (or at least there should be). Make it special with unique and different party supplies from one of our favorite Seattle-area spots. From balloon arches and sweet bars, to costumes and yard games, here’s where to find what you need.
Champion Party Supply
Champion Party Supply
Some parents hire a costumed character to make an appearance at their kid’s birthday party. Others opt to have the guest of honor dress up for the occasion. Either way, Champion Party can take care of your needs at a fraction of the cost (as long as you find a willing adult to play the part for you.) They offer a huge variety of costumes to rent all year long. We love the mascot animals to rent including the Abominable Snowman, beaver, bee, cow, horse, gorilla, tiger and two different lions to choose from. You’ll also find a few super heroes, Mario and Luigi, Snow White, a pirate and more. On the plus side, these costumes are heavy-duty professional-looking costumes. On the downside, you’ll have to give them back when the party is over!

Red Balloon Company
Red Balloon Company
Although not the biggest party store, The Red Balloon Company has a lot more than you would expect. As their name suggests, they offer about 100 different types of balloons (not all of them red) for pick-up and delivery in the greater Seattle area. But the store itself also features gifts, decorations, games, plush toys and many different party theme ideas including robots, the ocean, unicorns (of course), a safari, space, dinosaurs and others.

Prime Party
Jeffrey Totey
Located in Monroe, Prime Party offers a fun mix of supplies, featuring characters you won’t find anywhere else. Plus, in addition to the standard cups, plates and napkins, Prime Party also offers unique items like large cardboard character cutouts for photo-taking, tabletop awnings or numbers to celebrate special birthdays, water bottle labels, favor boxes, “Sur-Prise Punch Games” and bingo games. They even have icing decoration sheets that a bakery can put on the birthday kiddo's cake. You’ll also find some great ideas on how to hold a socially distanced party, party theme ideas and more.
For kids who are character crazy, this is a great spot to know. You’ll find products based on characters from the Max and Ruby, Geronimo Stilton and Llama Llama children’s books. Parents are not left out either. The shop also offers party gear centered on The Golden Girls, Beverly Hills 90210, Star Trek, MacGyver and other nostalgic shows. In fact, you could host a painting party for kids and parents because Prime Party offers two lines of products featuring the famous TV painter, Bob Ross! You can order online or pick up your items directly from their showroom (just be sure to call ahead).

Seattle Balloon Decorations
Seattle Balloon Decorations
Holy moley! We love the amazing decoration designs made by Mayumi and her crew at Seattle Balloon Decorations. Not only is their work impressive, but it has been featured at many weddings, parties, corporate events and yes, birthday parties. You can go small (table centerpieces start at $10) to huge (balloon arch designs start at $120) or anything in-between. If you want to do something truly unique and different, choose their large paper flower cut-outs. They definitely offer that “wow” factor and unlike balloons, they can continue to decorate a room for many months. They also offer balloon animal artists and glitter tattoo artists. They will travel anywhere in Seattle, Bellevue and their surrounding cities.
Maybe, just maybe you’re interested in giving cake making a try instead of just making one from a mix or ordering one from a local bakery. If so, we recommend visiting Dave at Home Cake Decorating. An experienced baker himself, Dave knows a thing or three about making and baking, and he is more than willing to share his knowledge with you (or you can find them on his website). His store is crammed full of everything you would ever need and more including ingredients, tools, fillings, icings, pans, cupcake liners, dusts, glitters, flavorings, fondants and piping supplies. You can even dress up the simplest cupcake with his many novelty toppers that come in a variety of themes including dinosaurs, animals, sports, princesses, pirates, space, butterflies and even local town heroes.
Since 1952, Display and Costume has been providing families and friends the tools they need to pull off the perfect party. One thing that we love about this store is its huge collection of décor items separated by color including tablecloths, cups, bowls and plates, straws, candles, balloons, candies and streamers. While the store offers a large collection of licensed characters too, the idea of not being locked in one specific theme is appealing. A unicorn party could feature plates, cups, napkins and plasticware in a rainbow of colors. A mermaid party could feature a mixture of blues, greens and purples and a pirate party could include a lot of gold and silver. You get the idea.

Balloons & Cupcakes
Balloons & Cupcakes
Here’s another business whose name tells it like it is. Balloons & Cupcakes consider themselves to be your “one-stop-event-shop” providing full-service balloon decorating and cupcake catering. In the area of balloons, you can place an order for a balloon archway, tunnel, wall, column, tower, centerpiece, bouquet…you name it, they can do it. We especially like the organic-style half arches used mainly against a wall. They assure us that anything can be customized. In the area of cupcakes, should you need them, Balloons & Cupcakes offer different flavors, from the classic Birthday Cake (vanilla bean cake, chocolate frosting and sprinkles) to Cookie Monster (chocolate cake, vanilla frosting, Oreo cookie crumbs) to Snickerdoodle (cinnamon cake, cinnamon-vanilla frosting). Plus, parents can order as few as half a dozen full-size cupcakes or three dozen mini cupcakes.

It not only serves as an amazing decoration but a goody-bag dispenser as well. And did we mention that the price includes delivery and pickup? (Within 10 miles of their shop). Party Solutions also offers just about everything you need to make your kid’s day special including balloons, party essentials, themed products, wrapping paper, trinkets and so much more.

Archie McPhee
Archie McPhee
If your family is a bit weird (and honestly, aren’t we all?) then perhaps creating a slightly odd party might be in your best interest and if so, do we have the supply company for you. Archie McPhee has been offering strange and unusual products for over 30 years. We think it’s thee place for creating the ultimate weird goodie bag. Here you’ll find “itty bitty” rubber chickens, disguise glasses, inflatable tiaras, metal tins of hard candy (in flavors like pizza, fried chicken, mac 'n' cheese and more), bacon striped wrapping paper and a birthday cake candelabra that holds cake candles. And while you can order their products online, we encourage you to visit their store. It’s a trip.
It’s challenging enough to get the meals you loved before the pandemic. And, if your family, or members of your family are vegetarian or vegan, it may seem next to impossible. The good news is that several local restaurants are offering both vegetarian and vegan dishes for delivery or pickup! Before you decide on your next dinner, read on to find out more.

They have an amazing menue which features smoothie kids, vegan cheesecake, vegan bowls and so much more. Check out the website to find out the rules and delivery days and times.
This lovely little spot is offering free juice delivery to all of Portland. As if we needed another reason to love them! Order up their cold-pressed juices, vegan cheeses, gluten-free granola, and nut milks to keep your family nourished and healthy through these trying times! Even the non-vegans in the family will love them.
If you love supporting woman-owned, Portland-based businesses, then you’ll want to get your breakfast from this awesome eatery. It specializes in artisan vegan donuts and ice creams, made from scratch with local, fresh and sometimes usual ingredients. We think you’ll love their strawberry rhubarb fritter, salted tahini donut and the pineapple pizza (it’s sweet and savory with fresh pineapple glaze, tomato chutney, Brazil nut parmesan, and red pepper flakes.). Or indulge in their salted vanilla bean ice cream.
They say that eating one of their bowls is like eating a hug. We do not disagree. One of the most nourishing dishes in town, all bowls are nut, gluten, wheat, hydrogenated oil and guilt free and come with brown rice, black and red beans, avocado, cilantro, black olives, Tillamook cheddar, sour cream, salsa and Tali Sauce. Be careful, they are addictive! They come in Bambino or Big Bowl sizes and you can order them either fully loaded (vegetarian) or veganized! The NW 23rd, Hawthorne, North Portland, and Hollywood locations are open for takeout. And families can also order bowls for delivery through Caviar and bike couriers.
Who doesn’t love a tasty grilled cheese sandwich? This vegan grilled cheese food cart located in the parking lot of Jet Black Coffee Company, is accepting online and call-in orders curbside pickup. We suggest The Teddy with it’s three cheeses all melted on toast. If you want more, try The Jon with basil ricotta, smoked provolone, grilled mushrooms and potato chips!
This local favorite is open for orders with limited hours: 1 to 9 p.m. You can choose from a variety of pies with fun names like the Chalupa Batman, El’ Guapo, and Brother Wilton. There is also a variety of salads to choose from to accompany your slice. Good news, they have options just for kids too!

We all know that the secret menu at Starbucks isn’t exactly a secret. There is even a hashtag dedicated to these sweet caffeinated (or decaffeinated) beverages. While each of these menu items may have a fan base that knows precisely what goes into each drink, unfortunately the baristas do not have a printed recipe guide at their disposal. If you plan on ordering off of the secret menu, be prepared to know, pump by pump, how to create your order.
If you are looking for the perfect drink while binge watching The Mandalorian, start by ordering a matcha green tea Frappuccino. Then, add a caramel drizzle to the cup (representing Yoda’s cloak). Finally, top it off with whipped cream, caramel and caramel ribbon crunchies.

Not all Starbucks baristas may be familiar with the It Frappuccino. To create this drink, order a vanilla bean Frappuccino topped with strawberry pureé.
Don’t worry, you’re not late to the ball. The Cinderella Latte has been around for awhile, but it became popular again in 2019. Order a Pumpkin Spice Latte. Substitute half of the pumpkin spice pumps with white mocha.
You don’t need to know how to speak Wookie to get this delicious chocolatey frappuccino. Ask the barista for a Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino. Have them add caramel drizzle in the cup (to resemble Chewbacca’s belt.) Top the drink with whipped cream and sprinkle with extra cookie crumbles.
To order a drink worthy of the Pumpkin King, ask for a Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino with a shot of Chai Syrup and a shot of espresso. Ask for a mocha drizzle in the cup and have it topped with whipped cream and java chips.
Not to be outdone by Jack Skellington, Sally also has her own signature drink. To order this strawberry-infused treat, ask for a Vanilla Bean Frappuccino with Matcha Powder. Add a caramel syrup drizzle in the cup and top it with whipped cream, strawberry puree and strawberry inclusions (slices of freeze-dried strawberries).

Rum Raisin
Green Tea
Strawberry
As if these frozen treats aren’t enough, Häagen-Dazs also introduced a boozy selection of spirits-inspired flavors. From Amaretto Black Cherry Almond to Bourbon Vanilla Bean Truffle, these playful picks may just turn up on next year’s top five lists!
