Sure, doing all of your holiday shopping on Amazon is convenient. You don’t have to leave home and you can find almost anything. But NYC’s full of fabulous indie kid shops, where they know what is truly hot this year. We spoke with the top toy stores around town to find out what items are flying off the shelves. Some are obvious — Pokemon trading cards, anyone?— others might not be on your radar. But all of them are sure to bring some cheer. Flip through to discover what the cool kids are getting this season.

A Time For Children: 42nd Street Shuttle Loop and Terminal Set

Put a dent in your list while doing some good at this Upper West Side toy shop. A Time for Children donates 100 percent of their profits to The Children’s Aid Society. In addition to carrying a large selection of children’s books and toys, they’ve got some of the cutest kids’ clothes around and stock a large selection of sizing.

A Time for Children sells a 42nd Street Shuttle Loop and Terminal Set that has been a big holiday hit. The wood train and track set includes two 42nd street shuttle cars and 19 track pieces that runs over 6 feet long. It’s the perfect starter train set for your tot.
