Teacher Davis from Music Day Hooray! plays songs that are cool for learning and great for moving. A former music therapist now teaching music classes at over 15 preschools in Los Angeles, Davis likes performing on the guitar as well as a variety of other musical instruments in this interactive, educational show. Pickle fanatics and pickling amateurs, enter the Beverly Hills Pickling Contest and show people what you have. The Picklefest contest is sponsored by legendary Beverly Hills deli, Nate ‘n Al. Admission to the festivities is free and the centerpiece of the event is a curated pickle contest with two categories: Best Dill Pickle in Beverly Hills and “I Can Pickle That!” In the latter category, entrants can bring any pickled fruit or vegetable. All pickled produce submitted must have been grown in California.

Nate ‘n Al will award $200, $100 and $50 gift cards to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. A panel of distinguished judges including Mark Mendelson, owner of Nate ‘n Al Delicatessen.

Follow in the footsteps of young wizards in search of art that echoes characters, places and enchanted objects in the famed Harry Potter books and movies. Be prepared to track down flying owls, Hagrid-like giants, and dragons that seem straight out of the Triwizard Tournament. Kids must be accompanied by an adult, but all-adult teams can compete separately.

With both indoor and outdoor venues, multiple beer gardens and VIP lounges, the Capitol Hill Block Party provides a communal, accessible experience, continuously evolving since it was founded in 1997.

This year’s event will feature big name national artists, promising local talent and lesser-known performers across a variety of genres, plus a diverse blend of acts that appeal to all music tastes and ages.

Bates invites family and friends to make a night of it with a campout on the farm. As part of the Summer Food Truck Festival, it is just $25 per tent or RV to spend the night under the stars. Camp sites will be available from 10 a.m. Sat., Aug. 19 until noon Sunday, August 20. The movie, “A Dog’s Purpose” will be shown beginning at 7:45 p.m. for $5. The proceeds from the movie will benefit the American Cancer Society.

Guests are encouraged to bring low backed beach chairs or picnic blankets to enjoy their gourmet treats under the magnificent mulberry trees, and to watch the movie. The Valley Center Summer Food Truck Festival once again rolls into Bates Nut Farm with more food, entertainment and family fun. Several of Southern California’s top gourmet food trucks are the main attraction. The fun continues with an overnight camp out under the stars, along with a movie night to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Participating in this year’s festival are many crowd favorites including Organic, Epic Eatz, SuperQ, Mariposa Ice Cream, Sushi Uno, Pomodoro Rosso, SnoCal Shaved Ice and Lil Miss Shortcakes. The food trucks will be serving from 4-8 p.m. Live music by Heidi and the Hurricane happens from 4:30 -7:30 p.m. on the Bates Stage. Kids will have fun with Snow’s Pony Rides and the Kids Zone with a bounce house and slide. Guests 21 and over with ID can pair their food truck fare with wine and beer in the Valley Center Optimist Club’s beer garden.
