This July, Bay Street will kick off a Summer Concert Series, Bay Street Live, with a free live outdoor concert featuring Australian-American indie pop singer Hazel English and American Duo Cape Weather. An Oakland local, English has released several EPs and is best known for her hits I’m Fine and Never Going Home. Concert goers can relax in lounge chairs or bring their own blankets to enjoy the live music in the Center Plaza. From crepes to Asian-style bowls and buns, a variety of food trucks and local restaurants will be on site providing tasty eats and refreshing drinks.

Over the past decade, the Alphabet Rockers have honed a supremely engaging hip-hop act designed for children and families. With singer/songwriter Kaitlin McGaw and beatboxer/b-boy/rapper Tommy Shepherd, this powerhouse group makes the world come alive through beats, rhymes, songs and dances.

In coordination with the City of Kirkland and the Kirkland Cultural Arts Commission, King County Engineering for Kids and the Kirkland Arts Center presents a community exhibit that features a collection of six, colorful outdoor works by Ed McCarthy displayed along Park Lane Ave. to enhance the cultural vibrancy of Kirkland.

The sculpture project explores cityscapes and the individual. And Ed McCarthy has a background in architecture and engineering and incorporates both architectural and structural form into his sculptures. He gives new meaning to the term “industrial art” by creating steel objects reminiscent of machinery or manufacturing tools through abstract and geometric shapes he calls “Pareidolia People.”

The colorful and playful steel objects will be on display on Park Lane in Kirkland for over a year, from July 13, 2018 through July 15, 2019. For more information, contact the Kirkland Arts Center at 425-822-7161.
