Starbucks Is Still a Champion for Paid Leave with New Policies for Families

Starbucks is making some changes. And no, we’re not talking about the new blonde espresso. The coffee gurus are giving it up to their employees, making an investment in those who keep their empire brewing. Starbucks is reportedly making an investment in their employees—with enhanced compensation packages totaling over $250 million company-wide.

Seattle-based coffee giant Starbucks is helping their employees out in a pretty big way. This week, Starbucks just announced new partner and family sick time benefits. These benefits, which will be made available to all U.S. partners, will increase the amount of sick time that they will accrue to one hour for every 30 hours worked.

Along with this benefit, Starbucks is also changing their parental leave policy, including all non-birth parents. The expanded policy provides up to 6 weeks of paid leave for employees welcoming a new child to their families.

The changes don’t stop at time off and leave benefits. Starbucks is also giving all U.S. hourly and salaried employees a second raise this fiscal year. The company plans on taking $120 million to increase workers’ wages. On top of a raise, eligible full- and part-time, salaried and hourly employees will get an additional 2018 stock grant ($500 for retail store employees and $2,000 for store managers).

What do you think the best new benefit for Starbucks employees is? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
