The new Disney+ streaming service is launching very soon and while there are many exciting new shows and movies promised, the big question is, what will you be able to watch from day one and how much will it be?
Clear your schedule for Nov. 12 because there will be plenty to watch when Disney+ launches. Disney has some stiff competition against Netflix and Amazon to convince customers to sign up for yet another streaming service, but with the price set at a very modest $7 per month, signing up for access to the entire Disney vault, plus Fox, Marvel and more is pretty much a no brainer.
In addition to the Disney+ pricing plan of $6.99 per month or $69.99 for a year, subscribers can pay just $12.99 per month (the same price as Netflix’s most popular plan) for a bundle that includes Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+. This is a $5 discount off of subscribing to each platform individually.
The news of what subscribers will find on Disney+ is constantly pouring out as well. The latest announcement reveals how the recent Fox acquisition will make for more content on the platform. Disney CEO Bob Iger told investors that the new streaming service would eventually include reboots of four major Fox franchises, Home Alone, Night At the Museum, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Cheaper By the Dozen. No word yet on what those reboots would look like or when they would debut, only that they will be “reimagined” for “a new generation.”
The new streaming service will be organized into the following categories and here are all the new Disney+ offerings that have been confirmed so far, many from day one and others to come.
Disney
- All 2019 Disney movie titles will roll out on the platform after the theatrical and home theater window has closed including Dumbo, Aladdin, Lion King and Frozen 2
- The entire Disney vault of titles including more than 7,500 episodes of television and 500 movies will be available from the launch date. The movie selections include classics like 101 Dalmatians, Bambi, Sleeping Beauty, titles you probably haven’t seen since your own childhood, like The Rocketeer, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, the original Tron and modern hits like Frozen, Moana, Big Hero 6 and Zootopia. TV shows will include the whole family’s favorites, like DuckTales (1987 and 2016), Boy Meets World, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and the newly acquired The Simpsons.
- A Lady and the Tramp remake will be one of the first new features made specifically for release on Disney+.
- Noelle, a Christmas focused movie starring Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader.
- Togo, a dog-sledding movie starring William Dafoe.
- Stargirl, an adaptation of the best-selling YA novel by Jerry Spinelli, is in the works.
- A live-action adaptation of Stephan Pastis’ Timmy Failure is also being developed.
- An original series based on Disney’s High School Musical.
- The Phineas and Ferb Movie based on the Emmy Award-winning Disney Channel series.
- Encore! a live-action series produced by Kristen Bell that reunites the cast of a former high school musical to perform a new show.
- A yet untitled documentary series that takes a look at Walt Disney Imagineering.
- Be Our Chef is a Disney-inspired cooking competition that invites competitors to create the next great theme park dish.
- Diary of a Female President is a new series produced by Gina Rodriguez and CBS TV about a 12-year-old Cuban American girl who will become the future POTUS.
- Reboots of Home Alone, Night At the Museum, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Cheaper By the Dozen.
- All episodes of classic Disney cartoons from the ’80s and ’90s including Goof Troop, Darkwing Duck, Chip n’ Dale Rescue Rangers, TaleSpin, Gargoyles and Adventures of the Gummi Bears.
Pixar
- Pixar films beginning with this summer’s Toy Story 4 will be exclusive to the platform.
- Previous Pixar titles will all be available at launch including Cars, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Toy Story and more.
- Monsters At Work will debut as an original series based on Pixar’s Monsters, Inc.
- Original short films created in the Pixar SparkShorts program.
- Lamp Life, and animated short, will give fans a look at what happened to Bo Beep from the time she dropped off-screen in Toy Story 2 to the latest installation in the franchise.
- Forky Asks a Question will be a series of short films based on the new character introduced in Toy Story 4.
Star Wars
- All of the Star Wars films, starting with Episode I will be available from the first day.
- The Mandalorian, a limited series helmed by Jon Favreau, is in the works.
- A new season of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars has been promised for the new platform.
- A live-action Rogue One prequel series is being developed with Diego Luna to star.
Marvel
- Captain Marvel will be the first Marvel Universe film to debut on the platform.
- The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will be a live-action series starring Anthony Mackie as Falcon.
- Loki starring Tom Hiddleston reprising his big-screen role will roll out as a series in the second year of the platform.
- WandaVision will be a second-year series starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany.
- Marvel’s What If? will be a unique new animated series based on the comics of the same name.
- Marvel’s Hero Project is a docu-series which introduces kids who are real-world heroes in their communities.
- Iron Man, Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World will all be available from day one.
- Episodes of classic Marvel cartoons from the 1970s to the 1990s, including X-Men (1992), Spider-Man (1994), Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man (1994) and Fantastic Four (1994).
National Geographic
- Existing NatGeo series like Amazing Planet, Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan, Great Migrations and Wicked Tuna will all be available from the launch date.
- Magic of Animal Kingdom will give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at how Disney cares for the animals in its herd.
- The World According to Jeff Goldblum is docu-series that’s reminiscent of Billy Nye the Science Guy, sprinkled with Jeff Goldblum’s humor.
