Chris Evans continues to use his time in the spotlight wisely. After cracking up fans with his Pixar photos earlier in the week at Disney California Adventure Park, the actor continues to promote his upcoming animated film, Lightyear, in more ways than one.

If you weren’t aware, the new movie features a lesbian couple who share a brief kiss and some people are none too happy about it. The moment comes as the movie shows flashbacks of milestones in their relationship and is a quick “blink and you’ll miss it” scene.

But that hasn’t stopped the negativity and Chris Evans is not having it. In an interview with Reuters, he states “The real truth is those people are idiots…Every time there’s been social advancement as we wake up, the American story, the human story is one of constant social awakening and growth and that’s what makes us good.”

Earlier this year, Disney reinstated the scene between Buzz Lightyear’s friend Alisha and her wife, after it had been pulled from the movie. Evans told Variety at the time, “It’s nice, and it’s wonderful, it makes me happy. It’s tough to not be a little frustrated that it even has to be a topic of discussion. That it is this kind of ‘news.’ The goal is that we can get to a point where it is the norm, and that this doesn’t have to be some uncharted waters, that eventually this is just the way it is…Look, it’s an honor to be a part of something that is taking those steps, but the goal is to look back on this time and just be shocked that it took us this long to get there.”

To round out his interview with Reuters, he shares one closing thought: “There’s always going to be people who are afraid and unaware and trying to hold on to what was before. But those people die off like dinosaurs. I think the goal is to pay them no mind, march forward and embrace the growth that makes us human.”

Lightyear opens in theaters tomorrow, Jun. 17.
