If you’ve taken the kids to the pool or beach this summer, chances are you’ve spent a good amount of time trying to squeeze your kids in and out of wet bathing suits when nature calls. One-piece swimsuits for girls are especially challenging to maneuver when you need to change a diaper or hit the potty, but finally one company has come up with a genius solution and we can’t believe no one thought of this before.

Wowease Swimsuits were invented by two moms, because no one else understands the struggle quite like other parents. Unlike traditional one-piece swimsuits, these have hidden magnetic snaps at the waistband that allow for easy access for diaper changes without having to remove the entire suit.

Photo: Wowease Swimsuits

If your little ones have graduated to using the toilet, these brilliant moms have even thought ahead to the problem of the bottom flap hanging down into the toilet. The suits also feature hidden magnets in the back so that you can secure the flap while using the potty.

The suits, which also come with built-in UPF 50 sun protection, are available online in sizes to fit babies, toddlers and girls. They retail for $20 to $25, depending on the style. The only question left is, when will they make an adult version?

Stitch Fix Kids Is Here & Back-to-School Clothes Shopping Just Got Easier

Cloth diapering is making a comeback with modern parents due to its many benefits to the environment, the budget, and baby’s comfort. There is a common misconception that cloth diapering requires a lot of work, but it doesn’t have to be that hard.

If you are prepared – both with your supplies and knowledge of what to expect – just about every parent can succeed with cloth diapering.

Types of Cloth Diapers

In order to be prepared, you will need to know that there are actually several types of cloth diapers. While they all work in a similar manner, the type you choose can make a difference in the ease of diapering and the impact on your overall budget.

There are two main components to a cloth diaper: the diaper itself and the insert. The insert is the absorbent part, making it necessary for keeping the outer diaper as clean as possible as well as your baby’s clothes.

Some diaper types – like flats that you have to fold and fasten yourself – aren’t as popular today as they were many years ago. Most parents today opt for something more modern, like the pocket diaper or sleeve diaper (both work the same way), which fits like a disposable with a small pocket to slip the absorbent insert into.

All-in-one diapers are the premium choice for parents who want a quick and easy diaper change. They just have one part with no insert to deal with. The biggest downside to these, however, is the fact that they take so long to dry since the absorbent part is very thick.

You may choose to take a step down and go with a two-in-one diaper. They are easier than other diapers with inserts that need to be folded since the insert is simply a piece that snaps into the diaper.

The Good

Cloth diapering can be a solution for common issues that affect you and your baby personally as well as issues that have a greater impact on the environment.

First, cloth diapering is eco-friendly. Yes, it may take a bit more water to wash them, but the big difference is found in the landfills. Though disposable diapers do break down with oxygen and sunlight, they don’t decompose very efficiently in a landfill. Using cloth diapers keeps our landfills cleaner.

Not only are cloth diapers easier on the landfills but they are also easier on the wallet. It may be a bit difficult to swallow the initial cost of supplies, but if you look at what it would cost to keep your child in disposable versus cloth diapers until they are ready to potty train, you would be looking at saving at least $1,000 (over a period of 2.5 years).

Finally, cloth diapering can be a solution for babies who may have sensitive skin or allergies. Disposable diapers can be scratchy and made with materials that can irritate the skin and make your baby fussy; cloth diapers are much softer. You can also wash cloth diapers with the same gentle detergents you use for your baby’s cloths to help eliminate irritants.

The Bad and The Ugly…And How to Make it Pretty

While all these things are well and good, there are still some inconveniences that come with cloth diapering. But if you know how to handle them or the tricks to make them easier, these inconveniences won’t bother you as much.

It is true that cloth diapers are a bit messier than disposable ones. They aren’t as absorbent (thanks to the absence of synthetic gels and substances that absorb liquid in disposables – a positive!) which means you may have a few more messes to clean up.

Diaper changes aren’t as easy either since you will have to scrape poop into the toilet and rinse diapers before you can put them in the laundry – not to mention how often you will have to do laundry in order to keep up with your diapering needs.

So, how do we make these things better?

First, it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. You can ease your way into cloth diapering by just using disposables sometimes. You can also use a hybrid diaper which combines the best of both worlds – a washable cover with a flushable insert.

Flushable liners can also take the work out of scraping poop into the toilet. All you have to do is wrap up the dirty stuff and throw it in the toilet with the liner. Unless there’s a blowout, there’s no mess on the actual diaper to clean.

Is Cloth Diapering RIght for You?

The decision to cloth diaper is one only you can make. Every family is different.

There are many that still prefer the convenience of a disposable diaper. There’s no denying that they are easier to travel with and take a lot of the mess out of diaper changing. And there is nothing wrong with parents who make this decision; it is what works best for them.

Cloth diapering does take a little more commitment and discipline. But if you choose the right diaper for your lifest‌yle and have a good stock of them, cloth diapering can be just as easy as disposables.

One of the hardest parts of becoming a parent is saying goodbye to sleep. After countless all-nighters, parents are willing to do just about anything to get some shut-eye, according to a new study.

Hatch Baby surveyed over 1,000 moms and dads with kids of all ages to learn more about family sleep habits and not only did it reveal just how much (or how little) sleep parents get, it also showed just what they would do to get a good night of shut-eye.

photo: Wokandapix via Pixabay

One of the most surprising revelations was that one-fourth of parents today only get three to five hours of sleep per night. A whopping 77 percent of parents with kids aged five and under said that they be willing to give up something they love or do something they dislike in exchange for a good night’s sleep.

So what were parents willing to do exactly? Forty percent of parents would give up social media for a month in exchange for one night of good sleep, 39 percent were willing to sit in traffic for an hour to get a solid night’s sleep and 30 percent would get dental work done for a blissful night of sweet dreams.

One response that should come as no major surprise is that moms were much more likely than dads to say that they were responsible for their kids following a bedtime routine. Seven out of ten parents said that maintaining a regular bedtime is key for creating healthy sleep habits in their family. Nightlights, diaper changes before bed and sound machines were also cited as helpful tools to get kids to sleep.

“Some children are naturally good sleepers and some need a little help learning the skill,” said Jillian Dowling, certified Hatch Baby sleep expert. “My best tip in this situation is to make sure all children learn to sleep well from a young age by implementing a consistent bedtime routine.”

In a fresh interview with PEOPLE, new dad Andy Cohen dished all about his beautiful baby boy and how his life has already changed for the better. The producer, Watch What Happens Live host and author welcomed his first child, Benjamin Allen Cohen, at the age of 50 on Feb. 4 via surrogate—and he’s nothing but glad he waited.

Cohen made sure he didn’t miss a thing, staking out a prime spot in the delivery room and even cutting the umbilical cord himself. After a quick clean up, he went skin-to-skin with his son and reveled in his new role as a papa.

Facing fatherhood at 50 doesn’t scare Cohen one bit. He tells PEOPLE that he has “a sense of calm that I didn’t have 10 [or] 20 years ago.” Perhaps fellow older dad George Clooney has some parenting wisdom he could throw his way?

Back in his home state of New York with baby in tow, Cohen is ready to get into the parenting game. With his network of support huddled around him, the Bravo TV host will surely wrangle midnight feedings and diaper changes like the pro he is.

Those first few months with a new baby are a blur of feedings and diaper changes. When you’re not getting much sleep it can be easy to lose track of time as days turn into nights and the nights turn back into days. Now Amazon can not only deliver diapers, wipes and sanity-saving products, they’re here to help you remember when you last fed and changed your little one with new baby care skills for Alexa.

Can’t remember which side you nursed on or when your baby’s last nap was? Ask Alexa. Your handy AI assistant can now make life with a newborn a little bit easier thanks to new voice-enabled baby care skills. In partnership with Hatch BabyBaby Connect and Wildflower Health Amazon has rolled out new Alexa Skills that can help track diaper changes, nursing sessions, bottle feeding, sleep schedules and baby weight.

photo: Hatch Baby

There are already many apps that can perform the same task, but when you’re too tired to even remember where your phone is, it’s much easier to simply say, “Alexa, record a diaper change,” or “Alexa, start nursing from the left.” You don’t even have to be formal with Alexa. She’ll also accept “Alexa, log a poopy diaper.”

All three baby tracking apps offer dozens of Alexa commands that will automatically record and save the data within the app so you can access it later, which is the perfect feature for those well check-ups when your doctor wants to know all about baby’s growth and habits. You can also simply ask Alexa to repeat any info back to you, like “Alexa, when was the last feeding?”

The skills are all free to enable and once you’ve downloaded the individual apps they can record the data, including things like baby weight and other stats from your well visits.

The days are long but the years are short, so be sure to capture some of those hazy, delirious moments with your little one—and share them with your family and friends near and far—with the Tinybeans app. The secure platform puts parents in total control of who sees and interacts with photos and videos of their kids.

How to Get the New Harry Potter LEGO Sets Before Anyone Else (Thanks, Target!)

It is well-known that having a baby is tough on a marriage. The time and responsibility that babies demand will inevitably leave less alone time for the couple, not to mention the financial and mental strains that it places on the relationship. But these challenges, if approached in the right way, can be used to strengthen the relationship rather than tear it apart. More importantly, there are so many positive things that the arrival of a baby brings.

We have to work together as a team.

There is a lot more to do on a daily basis than when it was just my husband and I. There are bottles to wash, bedtime routines to follow, diapers to change, and much more. In addition, we still have to keep the house clean, go grocery shopping, cook meals–all of the “adulting” we had to do before. These tasks can add up quickly, and because a baby requires supervision during all of his waking hours, there is a narrow window of time to get everything done.

In order to keep our household in functioning order, my husband and I must plan ahead and work together. We must be a constant communication about what needs to be done and what we need help with. We have to be more versatile (and less picky) about who does what. Long gone are the days when I was always the one who did laundry and my husband was always the one that took out the trash.

We appreciate each other’s strengths more.

When we have the opportunity to take care of a little one, we discover strengths about ourselves and about each other that we didn’t know were there. I didn’t realize how many things I could do one handed or how quickly I could find a lost pacifier in the middle of the night.

My husband is particularly skilled at making my son laugh. He can do impressions of animals, sing silly songs, and tickle him in just the right spot to get him going every time. Watching a grown man act ridiculous for the sake of a smile is heartwarming and priceless.

Our “alone time” is more precious.

Between diaper changes, nap times, feedings, and entertaining the baby, it can be hard for us to find time to be alone with each other. We have a few hours to ourselves every night, after our son goes to bed. Because this time is so limited, it becomes much more valuable, and we don’t take it for granted.

We use the time to have meaningful conversations, catch up on our favorite shows, and share meals together. It’s also one of the few opportunities that we have to connect in the bedroom, making it that much more passionate and exciting.

We celebrate new milestones together.

It is such a gift, being able to share in the triumphs of our baby boy and all of his firsts with my spouse. Seemingly mundane things that we, as adults, take for granted, are presented in a totally different perspective when a baby does it for the first time.

We were so proud the first time he waved at us, clapped his hands, slept through the night, learned how to crawl, and more recently, turning one! And the best part is that there are so many more to look forward to.

We became a family.

When my husband and I first got married and bought our own house, we started feeling like grown-ups for the first time. But it wasn’t until we had our son that we truly felt like a family. Within a marriage, it can be tough to always put the relationship first and us as individuals second, but when a baby comes into the picture, there is no doubt where the priorities lay. Having a common goal brings all of us closer together and automatically transforms the three of us into a family—and our house into a home.

I am a first generation Chinese-American wife, mother, scientist and writer. I started my blog, Hot & Sour, to create a space that is honest and relatable. I write about the reality of motherhood, a multicultural identity and all the things that define my life and who I am.

Most new moms are overwhelmed by all of the things that they have to do in a day. There are feedings and diaper changes, as well as all that housework. There is barely enough time to take a shower in a day, let alone get a few minutes for yourself. However, “me time” is very important—enough that you need to find a way to squeeze it into your routine.

Here are eight reasons that new moms need  “me time.”

1. It feels good to get away once in a while.

Every mom needs to get away from their baby. They need time to think and relax, not worrying constantly about every little thing. It can be really refreshing to just enjoy yourself even if you just take a walk around the block.

2. “Me time” will give you time to take care of yourself.

It is important to make sure that you are eating healthy and exercising enough so that you are able to take care of your family. Relaxing is also necessary for good health. You need to be mentally capable of taking care of your baby.

3. If your relatives are able to watch your baby, this gives them time to develop a bond.

It is important for grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other relatives to be able to spend quality time with the baby. Asking them to watch the baby for an hour or so here and there will only delight them.

4. If you have to hire a babysitter, remember it’s healthy for your baby to have relationships with other adults they can trust.

As your baby grows, he or she is going to have to get along with plenty of adults. Adult time as a child helps them learn to interact with other adults, making transitions to daycare and school a little easier.

5. “Me time” allows you to recharge your batteries.

After some time away, you will come back to mothering refreshed and ready to take care of your baby again. Things that bothered you a few hours ago may seem insignificant.

6. Being away from your baby will make you miss him or her.

Missing your baby is a good thing! Most moms struggle with missing their children, which only makes them want to hurry back home. After time apart, you may long for some special time together so you will make sure that you have plenty of quality time together.

7. By spending time with other adults, your baby will grow up learning about different opinions.

You are going to want your child to learn how to think for him or herself. As your child grows, he or she will learn to be well-rounded and well-adjusted.

8. Though it is not “me time,” date nights are also important to help you reconnect with your partner.

Life as a parent is very difficult. Not having any time to relax and connect can make the parenting journey very lonely and frustrating.

Though it can be really hard to find time, “me time” is really important for moms. If your friends and relatives are able to watch your baby, not only will you get a break, it will also give them time to spend with your baby. It may also help the transition to daycare or school a little easier because he or she will be used to more than one person.

However, “me time” is mainly for you. It gives you a break and some time away. You might be surprised to find that, no matter how badly you wanted a quiet house, you might feel lost without your little one—you’d be amazed how much you miss him or her the second they’re away!
