When it comes to spray decks and wading pools, Boston’s got some of the best around. And when it comes to keeping your kids cool (and happy) on a hot summer day, it doesn’t get easier than water play at a nearby splash park or pool. That’s why we’ve rounded up the best the city has to offer in the water play department. So grab the sunscreen, it’s time to get your splash on!
Artesani Wading Pool & Spray Deck When it comes to staying cool on a hot summer day, it helps to have options. That’s why we love Artesani Wading Pool & Spray Deck. Tots can cool off running through the fountains of the spray deck or they can splish and splash in the lifeguarded wading pool nearby. This is where you’ll find dump buckets, flowery sprays and plenty of other parents wading in to stay cool.
Ryan Wading Pool Cool off at this neighborhood wading pool that features overhead sprayers, large shade umbrellas and a playground just a hop, skip and a jump away. You’ll find lifeguards here and benches too, so sit back and relax while the kids wade in the water on a hot sunny day.
Beaver Brook Spray Deck There’s a reason this Belmont spray deck is a go-to spot for Boston families in the summer. The soft spray deck surface and oversized rocks just waiting to be climbed are irresistible to kids. Add in the playground just a few steps away and you’ve got your summer afternoon planned. Our suggestion? Bring extra snacks because the kids won’t want to leave this spot.
Dorothy Curran Spray Park When it comes to water play, it’s hard to go wrong with a nautical theme. And that’s what families will find at this playground and spray park combo. The spongy spray deck surface is easy on little feet. While the looming overhead sprayers that resemble seaweed (or maybe Nessie?) will keep kids cool. Dry off before hitting the sailing ship play structure that’s a hit with kids of all ages and abilities.
Boston Common Frog Pond You can count on Boston families to flock to this wading pool with its spectacular fountain whenever the sun is out. And can you blame them? It’s the place to be on a sunny summer day. Between the expansive wading pool, nearby carousel, playground, swan boats and lemonade carts, it’s what summer in the city is all about. Bring your blankets and find a shady spot at this popular spot that’s truly not-to-miss.
Johnson Playground Spray Deck Another spray park with a nearby playground, the Johnson Playground Spray Deck will keep your kids laughing and cool on a hot day. So find a shady spot and settle in while the kids play. And did we mention J.P. Licks isn’t too far away? End your water park play with a scoop of fresh cucumber ice cream or how about applewood smoked vanilla after play time is over.
Rose Kennedy Greenway Fountains Wherever you roam around the Greenway, you’ll find a fountain to splash in. Adults and kids alike love to cool off in the Rings Fountain in the Wharf District, with its 64 nozzles of vertical projection. The Canal Fountains, along the North and South Lawns, are another fam fave. If you’ve got tots, this is the spot to take them. Finally, kids can wade into the Chinatown Stream, with its bamboo walkway and peacefully cascading waterfall. Take your pick! You can’t go wrong here.
Dana Park On the eastern side of this Cambridge park, families will find a water play area and inviting playground. While we’re sure the kids will want to focus their play here, it’s worth noting that the park also boasts shaded walking paths, a full-sized basketball court and a lush lawn that was made for family picnics. So pack a few extras (a change of clothes for sure!) when you hit this popular neighborhood park.
Alfond Memorial Spray Deck Another splash spot located along the Charles River this small spray deck is a welcome respite for city families. After you’ve had your fill of water, hit the playground and then the Museum of Science, where you can keep the “cool” theme going in air-conditioned bliss.
Bradley Palmer State Park Spray Deck If you’re up for an adventure, take the kids to Bradley Palmer State Park. It’s a bit of a drive, but totally worth it if you want to spend the day playing in the water—the park has a wading pool with splash pad features too—and exploring trails. Check out the daily programming before you go.
Hours: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Cost: $5/person, MA resident; $20/person, non-residents
2. Many of these spots have playgrounds nearby, so plan to double your fun and make it a full day. We promise your kids will nap hard when they’re finally ready to head home.
3. In addition to our favorites featured above, the city has lots of other tot sprays and pools that’ll keep families cool this summer. Check out this map to find one near you.

Much of the world has slowed down over the last year, but the Imagineers at EPCOT have used this time to make some big changes. One of the first to be revealed is the eye catching fountain that stands in front of Spaceship Earth.
The acrylic structure stands where the original fountain did in 1982, welcoming guests to the magic of EPCOT. The reimagined fountain took inspiration from the geometry of the original, while adding a light at the center of the liquid-cooled fixture to go with the changing colors.
The fountain is made of three 16-foot acrylic pylons with the park’s logo and immediately draws your eye upward toward the sky and Spaceship Earth. Imagineers hail the fountain as the centerpiece of EPCOT’s entrance plaza.
Stay tuned for even more changes coming to the park as EPCOT continues to make more magical transformations in the months ahead.

It can be very challenging to get anything done when your baby won’t let you out of their sight. One mom’s hack to keep her baby smiling is both genius and hilarious.
In a Twitter post that has gone viral, a Japanese dad shared the clever experiment he came up with to help his one-year-old stop crying whenever his wife left the room. As the post explains, the one-year-old cries as soon as his mom leaves his sight, so this clever dad decided to create a life-sized cardboard cutout of his wife to keep him content.
In the Twitter thread that follows, the dad shares that his experiment is, in fact, a huge success and the baby is seen happy and smiling in a video as his cardboard mom watches him play. Eventually, he catches on to the ploy, however, when he starts talking to the cutout and doesn’t receive a response.
Of course, the boy is never left alone and his real mom is always close at hand, but she can probably rest a little easier knowing she can step into another room without setting off a fountain of tears.
Actress Shay Mitchell and boyfriend Matte Babel just shared a seriously “power”-ful baby gender reveal!
The couple filmed themselves calling friends and family, asking them, “Girl or boy?” Even though the soon-to-be parents guessed boy, their loved one voted overwhelmingly for a girl.
So is it a girl? Or maybe a boy? After phoning their friends, the pair was ready for the big reveal, and that’s when a Blue Power Ranger entered from a staircase above them. Of course the couple thought blue equals boy. But the reveal wasn’t over yet—because a Pink Power Ranger was on the blue one’s heels.
In typical Power Rangers style, a mega-battle ensued, including a water-logged fountain dip. And in the end, the winner was…the Pink Ranger. That means the couple’s friends and fam were correct. Mitchell is having a girl!
Movies always offer a great escape from the summer heat, but between the tickets and the snacks the costs can quickly add up. At AMC Theaters, however, a new summer deal gives kids discount movie tickets, popcorn and drinks.
Every Wednesday morning throughout the summer at participating AMC locations are hosting Summer Movie Camp where kids can score a movie ticket and a KidsPack, which includes popcorn, a fountain drink and a pack of AMC Footi Tootis, for just four dollars plus tax.
The movies are not new releases, but they are all recent family hits that kids will love. The film line-up includes Trolls, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, Peter Rabbit, Smallfoot, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, Teen Titans Go! To The Movies and more. You can check out the full list of participating locations here.
The summer is chock full of new movies for kids as well, so if you’re hoping to check those out AMC Stubs will be continuing the Discount Tuesday program it started earlier this year. On every Tuesday, you can purchase tickets to any AMC movie for just $5 each when you sign up to be an AMC Stubs member, which is free to join.
Have you ever wondered why babies love peek-a-boo so much? As it turns out, there’s an actual scientific answer to this question.
Between four and seven months old, babies start to discover something called “object permanence,” according to the American Academy of Pediatrics’ HealthyChildren.org website. This cognitive development allows infants to understand that objects continue to exist, even if they can’t see them anymore.
This also happens around the same time as the start of separation anxiety. Now that baby knows you actually exist after daycare drop-off happens, it’s very possible that the “I miss mom” crying phase will take hold. Even though the object permanence can usher in an era of separation-induced tantrums, it also makes your baby more likely to enjoy games, including peek-a-boo!
According to Dr. Gina Posner, a pediatrician at MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center in Fountain Valley, California, in an interview with Romper, “Object permanence is a concept that something that is out of sight (i.e., covered) is still there even though they can’t see it. This is why peek-a-boo is fun for them, and helps stimulate their brain. They start learning that even when something disappears, it can still be there, but hidden.”
So go ahead and play peek-a-boo all day long—it just might help their development!
