Think it’s too early to brush baby’s teeth? Think again. Even before the first tooth breaks through, it’s a good idea to establish oral hygiene habits. If your little one is used to teeth-brushing as a part of the daily routine, you may have fewer battles later on. If you’re not sure when or how to get started, here are helpful tips on brushing your baby’s adorable little pearly whites.

1. Start before baby’s teeth come in.
Keeping your baby’s mouth clean even before the first little tooth pops through is an important beginning step. Wiping gums after feedings will help to remove surface bacteria. To do this, wrap a clean, wet washcloth or a piece of clean gauze around your finger and wipe those toothless gums.

You can also try brushes designed for gums, like The RaZ-Berry Baby Toothbrush or the adorable finger-puppet brushes The Brushies.

2. Choose the right toothbrush.
Once babies have teeth, it’s time to introduce a toothbrush. You’ll want to look for one with soft bristles, a small head and a large handle that little hands can holdand you’ll want to replace it every three months or so.

The Double Sided Toothbrush from grabease (pictured at top; for kids 6+ months) has a tapered brush head, a wide handle for little hands to grip, and bristles on two sides to make it easier and faster to get those teeth brushed. The handle sports a choke protection barrier for safety, so your little one can safely practice brushing.

The Pure Brush from RADIUS (pictured above; for kids 6-18 months) has a small, cornerless oval brush head that’s designed for babies’ mouths, with soft bristles. The handle is tapered to fit in baby’s hand, and the entire brush is free of BPAs, synthetic dyes and harmful chemicals.

3. Help them out.
Since baby’s fine motor skills aren’t fully developed yet, it’s best if you brush the teeth. Since that doesn’t always go as smoothly as we’d like, take a “Mommy’s (or Daddy’s) turn, and then your turn” approach. Continue to supervise the process until your child can rinse and spit without help.

4. Talk to your dentist about toothpaste.
It’s a question many parents wonder about: Should I use a flouride or flouride-free toothpaste? The answer depends on many factors, including whether your water is flouridated, so your best bet is to ask your pediatric dentist. Whichever you choose, experts recommend brushing with toothpaste the size of a grain of rice.

5. Take your baby to the dentist.
The American Dental Association recommends that you take your baby to the dentist for their initial visit no later than their first birthday. However, you may want to ask your pediatrician’s opinion.

You can choose a pediatric dentist or kid-friendly family dentist to make the experience more comfortable for your little one. Some are equipped with TVs or colorful art and give kids treats. Since baby teeth are important because they hold the spot for permanent teeth, be sure to take care of them by scheduling regular visits.

This back to school season presents a variety of unique challenges. Whether you are preparing to head back to the classroom or for virtual learning at home, teachers play a crucial part in helping families adjust to this new normal wherever their students may be learning. New research from Clorox found that a majority of teachers, especially those who work in underserved schools, are concerned that students may not have the necessary supplies they need to support remote learning.

To determine teachers’ greatest needs, concerns and hopes during this unprecedented back-to-school season, Clorox conducted a nationwide survey among 1,000 U.S. educators.

  • 90% of teachers have paid for school supplies out of their own pockets. On average, teachers spend over $400 on school supplies each year, with teachers who report working in underserved schools spending over $500.
  • The majority of teachers (88%) worry students won’t have the supplies they need at home to support remote learning during this pandemic. This is an even bigger concern for teachers who report working in underserved schools, with 94% of those teachers stating they feel worried about a lack of supplies at students’ homes.
  • Over half (51%) of surveyed teachers report feeling that their students miss out on learning because they lack the proper supplies.
  • 71% report they have had to teach students without necessary supplies, and 64% report that they’ve had to modify lesson plans as a result of lack of supplies.
  • Four in five teachers (81%) report that they have been bringing lessons on cleanliness and disinfecting into the classroom this school year as a result of COVID-19.
  • 90% of teachers are worried about overall classroom hygiene with students returning during the COVID-19 pandemic and 84% are concerned about having thorough procedures in place for cleaning and safety.

To help ease the burden of an unprecedented school year, Clorox is donating $1,000,000 to ClearTheList Foundation to supply the resources teachers need to set their students up for success at home or in the classroom.

“At Clorox, we understand families and schools are facing an impossible task this year with teachers at the center of helping to navigate the multiple challenges surrounding being prepared for both classroom and remote learning,” says Magnus Jonsson, Vice President of Cleaning at The Clorox Company. “Through our donation and partnership with ClearTheList Foundation, we are committed to supporting teachers in their time of distinctive supply needs.”

In 2019, Courtney Jones, teacher and founder of ClearTheList, brought attention to teachers spending hundreds of dollars out of pocket on average for classroom supplies. ClearTheList grew into a national grassroots movement to clear the wish lists of thousands of teachers across America for their school supply needs. This year, teachers who create a wish list can apply for a grant from Clorox through the ClearTheList Foundation for the opportunity to have up to $500 worth of items cleared from their back to school wish list.

“As a teacher, I found meeting the needs of my students often meant providing supplies out of my own pocket,” says Courtney Jones, Clorox partner, teacher, and founder of ClearTheList Foundation. “I’m proud to partner with Clorox to expand upon the ClearTheList movement started in 2019 and ensure teachers around the country have the necessary supplies they need to succeed this school year.”

In addition to the ClearTheList donation, parents have a chance to win $5,000 for their family and $20,000 for their school to prepare for the new school year. Even if you can’t take a trip to a tropical location this summer you can still enjoy the taste from an island resort. 7-Eleven’s newest fresh-brewed hot beverage, tasty, toasty coconut coffee will make you feel like your toes are in the sand. Back by popular demand, limited-edition coconut coffee is a sweet, creamy coconutty concoction made with 100 percent Arabica beans.

Hurry into stores to get it soon because supplies are limited.

Participating 7-Eleven stores are offering seven free any size hot beverages and/or free any size fountain drinks per 7Rewards loyalty member through its 7-Eleven mobile app

If you have redeemed all seven cups you can purchase any size hot coffee for $1 or Big Gulp drink for 49 cents through 7Rewards for the rest of the summer.

Customers who have not already redeemed their seven free cups can try the tropical delight for free through Aug. 9.

“As more and more of us are dreaming of a trip to an exotic locale this year, it’s time to find other ways to treat ourselves,” said 7-Eleven Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Marissa Jarratt. “While we might not be saying ‘Aloha’ to the beach this summer, we can say ‘Mahalo’ for seven free cups of coconut coffee – one of many treats and drinks 7-Eleven customers can grab for a quick and delicious escape.”

For those who want to take it to the next level, 7-Eleven is offering a coffee hack that can only be found in-store. Just mix the coconut coffee with mocha latte to create a delicious coconut mocha. We like to call it the “Coco Loco Mocha.” It’s guaranteed to level up your morning!

And as the world continues to adjust to everyday life amid the pandemic, 7‑Eleven has enhanced its standards and procedures for hygiene, handwashing, sanitation, food handling and preparation in stores, including increased frequency of cleaning high-touch surfaces. All store associates are encouraged to wear masks and gloves when serving customers.

Customers now have access to disposable gloves, tissues and sanitizer stations while shopping in stores. As an extra precaution to help reinforce physical distancing and safer transactions, 7‑Eleven has installed sneeze guards and visual floor markers at the front sales counter. In addition, 7‑Eleven continues to offer contactless payment at participating stores at the register with Apple Pay and Google Pay.

7Rewards is the popular proprietary loyalty program found in the 7-Eleven app, where customers can earn and redeem points on most purchases. That’s free stuff, people! Customers can also take advantage of offers, exclusive discounts and interactive features. The 7-Eleven app is available for download on smartphones via the Apple App Store or via Google Play.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 7‑Eleven, Inc. will not celebrate 7‑Eleven Day, better known as July 11 (7/11), in stores this year. Instead, the convenience retailer is giving a special birthday gift of one million meals to Feeding America, the largest domestic hunger-relief organization in the country.

“At 7‑Eleven, our top priority is the safety of customers, Franchisees and employees,” said 7‑Eleven Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Marissa Jarratt. “Gathering nine million of our closest friends in stores on one day just didn’t feel right, but I am heartened that we now have the opportunity to help the communities and neighborhoods that have been the lifeline of our business since 1927.”

“The Feeding America network of food banks has been on the ground addressing the increased need in their communities,” said Lauren Biedron, vice president of corporate partnerships at Feeding America. “We are thankful for 7‑Eleven’s generous donation during this challenging time for many of our neighbors in need.”

7‑Eleven is still giving away free Slurpee drinks this summer. On Jul. 1, 7Rewards loyalty app members will receive one free medium Slurpee coupon in their account. The personalized offer is redeemable the entire month of July, allowing customers the opportunity to treat themselves when it’s convenient for them, while practicing physical distancing in stores. As a bonus, 7Rewards loyalty app members will find offers on yummy foods and beverages, like a Big Bite Hot Dog for just $1, from Jul. 1 to Jul. 12.

If you’re skipping the store altogether, you can still find birthday-worthy delivery deals on the 7NOW delivery app. From Jul. 7 to Jul. 11, whole pizzas are only $5 and a free Slurpee drink is redeemable with your order.

“For nearly two decades, July 11th has been the busiest day of the year for 7‑Eleven stores as millions of customers visit us to kick off summer with their favorite frozen drink” said Jarratt. “But this year, we have to make changes for the greater good. I hope you’ll join us for the in-person party next year.”

As the world continues to reconfigure everyday life in response to the pandemic, 7‑Eleven has enhanced its standards and procedures for hygiene, handwashing, sanitation, food handling and preparation in stores, including increased frequency of cleaning high-touch surfaces. Wednesday: Makeover the Mutts

Thursday: Learn What It Takes to Keep Pets Healthy

What’s good for pets and people alike? Exercise! Campers will learn about overall wellness for dogs, cats and other critters, too. There’s even an underwater treadmill for innovative treatments like aquatherapy.

Walt Disney World Begins First Phase of Reopening

Amusement parks and resorts have been closed since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic. LEGOLAND Florida Resort has announced that they will officially reopen on Jun. 1.  In order to keep guests and employees safe the plan includes reduced capacity, cashless payments, social distancing practices and enhanced cleaning regimes.

The plan has been developed with measures based on government advice and the requirements of health authorities, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“As part of Merlin Entertainments, our leaders across the globe have been sharing best practices daily, and we’ve been able to apply what we’ve learned from other successful Merlin attraction reopenings to be confident with our Resort’s reopening plan. In addition, we have also sought guidance from our partners at AdventHealth,” said General Manager of LEGOLAND Florida Resort Rex Jackson. “We’re ready to play, and we look forward to reopening LEGOLAND Florida Resort as a safe and memorable place for families to play again.”

Guests are encouraged to download the LEGOLAND mobile app, and review the website in advance of their arrival, for a full outline of the parks’ new arrival and attractions procedures, as well as details on the enhanced cleaning measures. Tickets and vacations should be booked in advance online, when possible.

Guests should be prepared to make on-site payments using a credit or debit card as cash will no longer be accepted on property. Guests experiencing any symptoms related to COVID-19 should refrain from visiting the Resort.

At the time of reopening, the park will operate at 50 percent of its capacity. If guests are arriving by car, they should expect to leave spaces in between vehicles and follow additional spacing instructions. All park employees and guests will be required to undergo non-invasive temperature checks. Those with a temperature of 100.4 F will not be allowed entry, nor will those in their party.

Every employee at LEGOLAND will wear a facial covering, and we will provide complimentary masks to encourage all our guests, ages three and above, to do the same. Brick-themed spatial markers and kid-friendly, parkwide signage will help remind guests of social distancing recommendations and hygiene practices. More than 200 hand sanitizing stations have been added throughout the park. Guests can view these locations on the LEGOLAND mobile app.

Character meet and greets and other select attractions will be suspended at the time of reopening. Enhanced cleaning measures throughout the day will disinfect high frequency touch points, including ride restraints, tables and chairs, service counters, handles and door handles. In the coming weeks, guests will also be able to allow them to reserve their spot in queue lines for major attractions directly from their own devices.

Along with the park and waterpark’s reopening, the all-new LEGOLAND Pirate Island Hotel will debut on Jun. 1. Reservations are available for travel dates Jun. 1 or later for both LEGOLAND Pirate Island Hotel and LEGOLAND Hotel.

The Resort will initially open with adjusted operating hours. LEGOLAND Theme Park will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and LEGOLAND Waterpark will be open daily from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Guests can stay up-to-date, with operational changes, as well as health and safety enhancements online on the LEGOLAND website

This Mom’s Viral “Squeaky Oven Dance” Is a Must-See

With all the media coverage around the spread of the Coronavirus, it’s very probable that your kids have seen the headlines or heard about the virus at school. Children may be worried about how the virus could affect not only them, but also their family and friends. To help minimize their fears, it is important that we not avoid the topic and provide them with facts and reassurance in a calm manner.

Andrea Barbalich, parenting expert and newly appointed Editor in Chief of The Week Junior, has some advice for parents when talking with your kids about the Coronavirus.

Keep your kids informed. Barbalich said, “It can be scary for children when they pick up pieces of information from various sources and do not have all the facts. Help them form a complete picture of what the coronavirus is by explaining it to them in a simple way and letting them ask as many questions as they like.”

Let them know what plans the government and health organizations have in place. Reassure your child that there is a team of experts focused on fighting the virus. Explaining treatments and quarantines will show them what is being done to help prevent the spread of the virus.

If your child is worried about contracting the virus, you can assure them that chances are very low and that it tends to impact older individuals and people with health complications and weaker immune systems. Researchers have also stated that children are particularly resilient at fighting off the virus.

Mother and child washing hands

Most importantly, teach your children the importance of good hygiene. Washing hands for 20 seconds with warm water and soap is the best way to minimize the spread of the virus. Children should also be taught to cough and sneeze into their elbow and avoid touching their faces.

Barbalich advises parents to be mindful of their own actions. She said, “Kids learn a great deal through osmosis and can read the sentiment in a room well. If you are discussing coronavirus within earshot of your child, remain calm and avoid evoking a sense of panic that they could pick up on.”
