The Maya Rudolph Show premiered this Monday and featured a brand new lullaby with familiar lyrics that we’ve sung out loud (“Close your eyes and sleep my child until the morning light”) and secretly in our head (“That’s a joke, I know you’ll wake me three more times tonight”). Song writer, father and Anchorman actor, Chris Parnell hits parenting on the head when he ends each line with “I love you.” Hit play below to hear the only lullaby you’ll be singing to your kiddo from now on.

Wasn’t this song just the perfect combo of sweet and funny? Share this perfect tune with your friends and family!

If you think about it, getting a baby to sleep is a lot like karaoke night with your friends: There’s a lot of singing, someone has to be carried to bed, and details are a bit hazy in the morning. The two are practically destined to be a winning combination. Introducing Lullaby Karaoke, the new app that does just that.

Here’s how it works: Pick a popular lullaby, then choose from accompanying instruments — piano, bells, guitar and others, depending on the song. Click the recording button and croon along to the lyrics that highlight slowly, karaoke-style. Once you’re done, save the recording as an mp3 file, play back, delete or record again. There’s even a charming little animation to help tots along in their journey to la-la land.

The app really stands out for its sharing options. Send recordings to Grandma via e-mail, share with other Lullaby users, or make your debut on Facebook or Twitter. Create playlists, keep baby’s favorite on repeat, or jazz things up by shuffling songs. Little ones will love hearing Mom or Dad’s voice, or your mini American Idol can record his or her own. Hey, parents need help falling asleep, too.

Download the app on iTunes or Android; the first song is free, and one $2.99 purchase unlocks the other nine.

Whether you’ve seen her on ABC’s Mistresses, the WB’s Charmed or — flashback alert — Who’s the Boss, Alyssa Milano has surely grabbed your attention. Now get to know a different, more personal, side of the hit actress. She’s mom to two-year-old Milo, who is a big part of her life, even when she’s traveling for work. (Milo was on the set of Mistresses with Alyssa every day she filmed.)

We chatted with Alyssa and she dished about how she balances her hot career with her equally busy role as a parent: “Every day is a new experiment,” she says. “I was a very Type A personality before having my child. I liked everything to be a certain way and was very much a perfectionist. I’m grateful for all my son is teaching me … to be present and in the moment.”

Turns out, there are products that help her do this, and make life more relaxed and fun when she’s on the road with Milo. Read on for the scoop.

Graco Low-Range Baby Monitor
Alyssa likes to keep tabs on Milo, but has a low-key approach. “I don’t do the video screen {thing},” she says. “I tried when Milo was first born and became obsessed with looking at the monitor.”

Homeopathic Medicine Kit
A love of natural remedies spurs Alyssa to pack this when traveling. “I pack herbs and homeopathic medicines for everything from teething to bumps to bruises to whatever cold we could possibly pick up,” she says.

White Noise Machine & Fully Loaded iPod
Both things cancel bad noise out and let relaxing sounds in. “I have an iPod that’s filled with his music,” says Alyssa. “It has Jewel’s lullaby CD — that’s our bath time music — and also The Beatles, a beautiful lullaby compilation from Africa, a Dean Martin lullaby album, and some of the Rockabye Baby CDs … like “Baby Coldplay.”

Skincare Products & Shampoo
Alyssa’s beauty essentials include Corrective Skincare products, which come from a small company out of Utah; and WEN shampoo, created by L.A. hairstylist Chaz Dean.

Febreze Sleep Serenity Bedding Refresher
Febreze’s new spray for sheets, pillows and blankets is part of the first line of scents designed specifically for the bedroom. It helps Alyssa get her beauty sleep. “Lavender relaxes me,” she says.

Her Dad’s PJs
“When I was seven months pregnant, my dad gave me his pajamas. They are the coziest things and I still wear them every night,” says Alyssa.

Go ahead — steal Alyssa’s secrets for what to bring on the road. And if you want to see her heat up the small screen, watch episodes of Mistresses online at abc.go.com.

Jay-Z’s greatest hits are making their newest debut–remastered and remixed–as lullabies. Everyone’s fave hip hop pop already made his daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, a billboard celebrity overnight, so we like to think that the guy knows a thing or two about kid-inspired music. So while your kid is falling asleep to the lyrical wordplay of the King of Rap’s greatest hits she can dream about her 99 Problems. Baby’s have a Hard Knock Life, after all.

What’s the scoop?
Before you go thinking the Jiggaman is making the jump into kid’s music, we’re here to tell you to slow your role. Being a full-time daddy has got Jay-Z a little busy at the moment, which is why Rockabye Baby stepped up to produce a Jay-Z inspired lullaby album entitled (what else?) Lullaby Renditions of Jay-Z. Featuring 12 of his billboard topping hits, all performed as instrumental lullabies, this album will have you serenading your little one to sleep with your best best raps. Can we get an H to the izz-O, V to the izz-A?

What does it sound like?
If you’ve ever listened to any of the lullaby renditions from Rockabye Baby, then you know that they trade out screaming guitars, gut-busting drums, and in the case of Jay-Z, inappropriate language, for calming xylophones and gentle bells. Also, they turn the volume “down from an eleven to a two.” The music has all the elements of the original songs, only they sound like they’re played through a nursery mobile.

The Jay-Z album will soon join the ranks of Rockabye Baby’s library that already includes everything from Elvis to Prince and Nirvana to the Beach Boys. Does your hip-hop baby need something to fall asleep to in the mean time? Check out the Kanye West lullaby album to tide her over until next month.

Find It:
The album drops on July 9, 2013 so pre-order your copy today and practice your rhymes and hooks so you can rap just like the Greatest Daddy Rapper Alive.

We’ve all blasted sugary kiddie-pop songs in the car in hopes of calming down the cranky little one in the backseat. It’s enough to make you pine for the days of concerts at 9:30 Club. Bethesda musician Jeff Bradford has been there. He played in rock bands and toured internationally for decades. Then he had his first child and created Jammy Jams. The CD series is full of hip, modern twists on lullabies that the whole family can enjoy. If you have a restless napper on your hands, any of the albums is a must-download.

Bradford first digitally tweaked hip-hop group OutKast’s “Hey Ya” into a lullaby as an inside joke for friends and family, using a mix of percussion, piano and synthesizer. He got a great reception after posting it on YouTube for fun. But more importantly, his baby boy chilled out. Ten albums later, Jammy Jams has remixed more than 90 songs, including “Gangsta’s Paradise” by Coolio, “Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake and “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga. The lyrics have been stripped out and the percussions softened to lull babes to sleep.

The albums are a refreshing break from the norm. Most kid-friendly music is known for its overly pop-y sensibility or weird nature sounds — good for little one at nap time (maybe), but you have to listen to it, too. A fan favorite remains Jammy Jam’s first album, “Once Upon A Rhyme.” There are no vocals, so you can actually play a version of “Big Pimpin” in your car … loudly. Talk about sharing your musical interests with Junior!

Road.Trip. The two words that make a parent’s hair stand on end, due to the ensuing four-worded phrases often uttered by children while on the open highway: “Are we there yet?” “I have to pee.” “Mom, he hit me.” While we can’t chauffeur you to your destination without incident, we can make the journey more pleasant by filling it with family-friendly tunes. Here are 10 top picks of favorite albums you can buy to create a fist pumping, toe-tapping, (or in some cases, snooze-inducing) mobile jam session for your next family adventure. Also featured are favorite tracks from each album in the event you want to hit up iTunes and make one stellar mix CD.

1. The Okee Dokee Brothers

Why They Deserve a Place on Your Playlist: Witty lyrics and punchy tunes brought forth by the pure sounds of a banjo, a guitar, and the upbeat voices of two best friends, the Okee Dokee Brothers’ Americana folk music will have you whistling Dixie. Their songs are wholesome and reminiscent of simpler times. You’ll be hard pressed not to bounce your head and pat your knees to the beat.

Top Track: Haul Away Joe off their “A Mississippi River Adventure” album. Who can resist a song with the following sweet lyrics: “Toy cars and candy bars are just a waste of money… cornbread is all you need with butter, beans and honey.”

2. Renee & Jeremy
Why They Deserve a Place on Your Playlist: Musical duo Renee & Jeremy’s voices
masterfully complement each other as they ingeniously put their own unique twist on classic, beloved songs from iconic bands including retro faves the Beatles, Queen and Supertramp, to current it-band Coldplay. You already know all of the words to old-time favorite tunes, so you can instantly sing-along to Renee & Jeremy’s new spins.

Top Track: Yellow off their “A Little Love” album somehow manages to take one of the best songs written in recent years and make it even better. Even diehard Coldplay fans will agree that this rendition of Yellow is the ultimate modern lullaby.

3. Charlie Hope
Why She Deserves a Place on Your Playlist: Charlie Hope’s voice is smooth as silk, and her whimsical beats and lighthearted lyrics make her songs catchy and fun. Her melodic delivery and peppy guitar strumming makes even the most childish lyrics resonate with the adult set — and she sings about trains, frogs, rainbows, cowboy boots and fire trucks — and nearly every other topic tots adore.

Top Track: Welcome Song off her “Songs, Stories and Friends: Let’s Go Play” album. This is the perfect song to listen to as you initially rev up your car’s engine to head out into the great wide open. The lively tempo and idealistic message will make you feel like anything is possible and that the world is at your fingertips as you welcome and greet a new day.

4. Frances England
Why She Deserves a Place on Your Playlist: Indie rocker England deftly fuses folk and pop music while delivering clever lyrics via her gorgeous voice. You will drink up her refreshing and invigorating music as though it’s the auditory equivalent of a cold drink on a hot summer day. Her mellow songs are simple and sweet and her enchanting vibe translates kid-friendly lyrics into music with universal appeal.

Top Track: Vacation Delights off her “Mind of My Own” album is a song about a child’s perspective of a road trip, from the back seat of the car. It has a rock n’ roll edge and a catchy beat that will make it the tried and true theme song of the trip.

5. Barney Saltzberg
Why He Deserves a Place on Your Playlist: In addition to being an accomplished singer/songwriter, Saltzberg is an acclaimed storyteller and author of 30 children’s books. His songs are like short stories that will keep the whole family entertained and chuckling.

Top Track: Someone’s Sleepy off his “Goodnight Kisses” album. A departure from his typical looney lyrics and lively beats, Someone’s Sleepy is the perfect song for long road trips where a nap is required. Just make sure the driver doesn’t listen too intently, as it will be nearly impossible for any drowsy person not to fall asleep to this hypnotic lullaby.

6. The Not-Its!
Why They Deserve a Place on Your Playlist: Dubbed America’s most rockin’ kindie band, the Seattle based musicians perform rock music for kids and parents, and they want to be your kid’s first rock music experience. The Not-Its are the answer to the popular parental dilemma of wanting to listen to rock n’ roll music for the amped up guitars, drumming and high-energy, but needing kid-appropriate lyrics to make rock n’ roll suitable for the whole family.

Top Track: Great to be a Kid off their “Tag You’re It!” album. Great to be a Kid gets little ones psyched to get outside and play in nature and drum-up memorable adventures. This song fuels head-banging action for the pint-size set. The lively nature of this song will pull you through the final, seemingly endless stretch of the trip before arriving at your destination.

7. Jack Johnson
Why He Deserves a Place on Your Playlist: Nothing evokes the spirit of a summer vacation like the laid back vibe of Hawaii, and Jack Johnson’s music is infused with the graceful spirit of the island he calls home. Moms dig Jack’s sensitivity and it doesn’t hurt that he’s drop-dead gorgeous. And dads will think Jack’s a cool dude who can really play the guitar.

Top Track: Better Together off his “In Between Dreams” album

If there’s one thing that’s required for a road trip, it’s solidarity. Better Together drives home the point that your family is a team and that you should stick together like glue on the journey ahead, loving and appreciating each other every step of the way.

Note: Jack Johnson’s “Curious George” soundtrack is his best all around kid-centric album, but his other albums will resonate more with the entire family.

8. Lisa Loeb
Why She Deserves a Place on Your Playlist: Loeb’s silly stories sung to music will strike a chord with young children and make parents chuckle. Her new CD, Lisa Loeb’s Silly Sing-Along: The Disappointing Pancake and Other Zany Songs is a mobile musical story time and it just may keep kids content for a nice portion of the trip. The CD is part of a book set, so if your younguns don’t get car sick while reading, let them follow the music with the book. Kids and parents will quickly memorize the 10 songs and fall in love with the endearing characters in the “zany” stories.

Top Track: The Disappointing Pancake, the title track off her “Lisa Loeb’s Silly Sing-Along: The Disappointing Pancake and Other Zany Songs” album

This song tells a cute story about the adventures of a pancake and acts more like an audio book that will keep kids entertained as they imagine a pancake on its many travels around the world. It gives the meatball in “On Top of Spaghetti” a run for its money.

9. Rockabye Baby
Why They Deserve a Place on Your Playlist: If you’re traveling with an infant, lullabies are the stuff dreams are made of. When paired with the usually foolproof motion induced nap a car ride evokes, Rockabye Baby music will send babes off to dreamland in no time. The songs have no lyrics, and they are instrumental “lullaby renditions of baby’s favorite rock bands. “Guitars and drums are traded for soothing mellotrons, vibraphones and bells, and the volume is turned down from an eleven to a two.”

Top Track: Best of You off the “Foo Fighters” album will have parents quietly rocking out in the front seat while baby is in a deep slumber in the backseat.

10. Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band
Why They Deserve a Place on Your Playlist: Lucky Diaz and Alisha Gaddis are dripping with “cool” in both appearance and musical chops. It’s impossible not to feel downright giddy listening to their music, given its peppy harmonies and head-bopping, toe-tapping rhythm.

Top Track: Let’s Dance off of their “Oh Lucky Day” album will no doubt inspire a “family jam” in the minivan. Sing and dance along to burn off some pent-up steam!
