Spooky Good! Disney’s Halloween Programming for Kids Kicks Off Oct. 1

Don’t look now but it’s almost October! The most frightful month of the year is almost upon us and Disney is ready for it. To celebrate, Disney Junior and the Disney Channel will kick off a spooky fun set of themed movies, episodes and specials, including a brand-new movie!

Under Wraps is a Disney Channel original movie and premieres on October 1 on the Disney Channel. It’s a comedic remake of the 1997 Halloween classic and it follows three 12-year-old pals and their encounter with a mummy. After they accidentally awaken “Harold,” they must rush to return him to his resting place before midnight. Can they escape criminals and stand up for justice along the way?

Other October hits include a new animated short-form series inspired by Disney’s ZOMBIES franchise, plus themed episodes of Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends, Disney’s Magic Bake-Off and Puppy Dog Pals.

And that’s not all: get ready for “The Ghost and Molly McGee!” The brand new series premieres on Oct. 1, where you can tune in to watch Molly and her grumpy ghost friend navigate the first day of school. You can watch even watch a clip below!

America’s Test Kitchen Launches New YouTube Channel & It’s Just for Kids

The YouTube channel has over a million subscribers and thousands of videos that show how to make virtually anything. And now America’s Test Kitchen is launching a new YouTube channel just for kids, with two distinct series to inspire young chefs everywhere.

“Wicked Good” is out now with seven episodes that follow a formerly evil scientist as he learns to cook and use his powers for good. He’s enlisted the help of 13-year-old granddaughter and recipe tester Zoe Bates, but it won’t be easy. Can Zoe help him drop his evil scientist instincts and whip up foolproof creations? One thing’s for sure, zany mistakes are sure to happen along the way!

“Test Kitchen Kids Takeover” will spotlight the young chefs of America’s Test Kitchen Kids and launch on June 9. Each week, kids will share cooking tips, recipes and demonstrate the real-life mishaps that are part of the cooking process. Don’t forget the dance parties!

Everything You Need to Know About Geocaching with Kids

You’ve walked by that newspaper stand hundreds of times, but did you know there’s a treasure box tucked under it? Millions of hidden “caches” (containers) worldwide are hiding, waiting for discovery. This worldwide outdoor treasure hunt is called Geocaching, and it’s an exciting—and totally addicting—family adventure. We’ve got a how-to guide that’ll tell you everything you need to know, so keep reading and get ready for fun!

What’s Geocaching?
Originally called “The GPS Stash Hunt” in 2000, founder Dave Ulmer was the first person to start a treasure hunt using GPS coordinates. His idea: “take some stuff, leave some stuff.” Two people on the internet found his container, and the geocaching game was born. Now, over 2 million caches are hidden around the world and over 6 million people are on the hunt to find them.

Geocaching is for everyone, everywhere
Geocaching is a whole family adventure that can be done anywhere from near your home to around the world you travel. Kids as young as toddlers can help find caches, but it’s absolutely perfect for kids 5+ who’ll also get educational value out of the finds, locations, and creating a log of where they have been.

How to get started:
1. Download the free app from geocaching.com to get the GPS, log, and hints on cache locations. With the app open, you’ll quickly see the nearest caches to you. Follow the arrow until it gets within twenty feet, then put it away and start looking around. Upgrade the app (currently $9.99 for three months or $29.99 for a year) to unlock premium-only caches, advanced mapping, custom searches and more.

2. When you’ve found your cache (yipee!), write your geocacher name—this is a cool handle you’ll use for every find you make — and the date on the log in the container. You can keep anything you like from the stash, as long as you replace it with something of equal or greater value. Log the find on your app (include a picture or any notes you’d like to put in for future finders), and put the box back where you found it.

3. Once you get the feel of standard geocaching, try some of the more advanced treasure hunts. Multi-Caches tend to have higher quality treasures, and you have to go through a number of stops for clues to find them. Puzzle Caches also lead you through multiple stops, but you have to solve a puzzle to figure out where to go next.

Want to hide your own caches? You totally can! Just follow the rules of setting one up.

Define “treasure”—what’s inside?
“Treasure” is a subjective word, isn’t it? Especially to toddlers who collect things like dirty shoe strings and empty snail shells. Caches are categorized by size—you could be looking for anything from a large shoebox to a small fake rock with a secret compartment. Inside you’ll find things like coupons, stickers, crayons, lotto tickets, and shell necklaces—the mystery is part of the fun! But the real “treasure”, according to long-time geocacher Larry Hazeltine of Colorado Springs (who has found over 3,700 treasures with his four kids!), isn’t the prize itself. “It’s all the cool places you’ll see while hunting—parks, historic buildings, amazing views—the geocaches are just what bring you there.”

Tips and tricks before you go:
• For your first few times out, search for “regular” size caches, as they’re easier to spot than smaller ones (you can see the size in the cache description).

• Bring a pen or pencil! Some caches don’t have anything to write your name on the log with.

• The best cache trades are unique and personalized to you or the place it’s hidden.

• If you’re stuck on a cache, email the cache owner for guidance or help.

Nickelodeon recently announced the premiere of Ryan’s Mystery Playdate’s fourth season—and like just about everything else, it’s going virtual!

The hit show launches its fourth season, Ryan’s Mystery Playdate: Command Central, on Mon., May 3 at 10:00 a.m. ET/PT. With 10 guest-filled episodes, this season moves the IRL interactions into a virtual world.

Instead of in-person playdates, Ryan and his parents will host their guests remotely in the same way you’ve worked and met up with friends over the past year—using teleconferencing tech. This season’s guest lineup includes WWE Superstars Ember Moon and Kurt Angle, rock band OK Go, professional soccer player Christie Pearce Rampone, PGA golfer Harold Varner III and other notable celebs.

Like past seasons, Command Center includes plenty of mystery box puzzles, games, activities and imaginative challenges. The premiere episode of the season, Ryan’s Wild Safari Playdate/Ryan’s Goal Scoring Playdate will include animal adventures, a wildlife guide and a soccer-packed playdate with Christie Pearce Rampone.

Can You Guess the New Mystery SOUR PATCH KIDS Flavor?

Up for a mystery game? SOUR PATCH KIDS hopes so!

On Apr. 15, the brand is asking fans to become the ultimate detective and solve the new SOUR PATCH KIDS flavor. Did we mention there’s also a chance to win $50,000?

So how does it work? First, purchase the new Mystery flavor packs at retailers nationwide to get a taste. Then, head to Mystery.SourPatchKids.com submit your guess and enter for a chance to win $50,000 and other instant prizes.

Fan will need to keep an eye out on those crazy KIDS, who will be dropping clues of the mystery flavor on SOUR PATCH KIDS packaging, social media channels and in-store displays. In addition, the Mystery Kid will take over the SOUR PATCH KIDS social media channels and reveal new clues every week from Apr. 15 through July.

In August, one winner will win the $50,000 grand prize when SOUR PATCH KIDS reveals the mystery flavor.
