5 Ways “PAW Patrol” Will Teach Teamwork to Your Kids

photo: Spin Master Entertainment

As toddlers evolve into preschoolers, so too does their play, from parallel pursuits to shared interests and elaborate feats of imagination. If you want awesome examples of all that teamwork can accomplish, look no further than Nickelodeon’s preschool hit, “PAW Patrol” (created and produced by Spin Master Entertainment). From paw-some pups and vehicles to their fearless pack leader, Ryder, “PAW Patrol” is all about uniting different pups with different skills in order to work together—a perfect template for preschoolers. Read on for five ways this hit TV show models teamwork and how you can bring those life lessons into your everyday routine.

1. Lesson One: Communicate
• How PAW Patrol emphasizes communication: We like that “PAW Patrol” missions always begin with Ryder telling the pups the problem at hand, explaining where each team member’s unique skills can come into play and the tools the team will need to get the job done.

• What you can do every day: When big ideas like teamwork are part of everyday conversations with our kids, they become that much more familiar when it’s time to put them into action and practice what you preach. So talk about teamwork early and often. Show your own team at home that helping a friend build a tower at daycare or sharing brownie-mixing duties at a play date makes teamwork imaginative and fun.

2. Lesson Two: Model Inclusion
• How PAW Patrol models inclusion: Over at Adventure Bay, Ryder isn’t ever looking for just one pup to save the day, but always a team to come together to achieve the task at hand. We love how Ryder’s emphasis on inclusion shows kiddos how to bring different skills and points-of-view together.

• What you can do every day: Model inclusivity like Ryder does, whether that means assigning fun dinner prep jobs to bring one meal together or letting little ones help with tasks a little above their pay grade (like folding laundry). After needing so much support from us in their first years, they’ll learn how it feels to be the one who helps.

3. Lesson Three: Celebrate Difference
• How PAW Patrol celebrates difference: Ryder is always at the ready with words of encouragement as the pups work together.

• What you can do every day: Just like Ryder does with his pup family, make it a habit to tell your kids what makes them different or unique as well. Do they have a special way of calming down a younger sibling? Are they helpful in a pinch? Call it out and thank them for it! They will love feeling special in your eyes and may look for ways to bring those attributes into other situations with their peers. They’ll also start to notice and appreciate what makes those around them special and unique, too.

4. Lesson Four: Teamwork for the Win
• How PAW Patrol is all about teamwork: As preschoolers become better versed in what sets themselves apart from others, like a hairstyle, unique personality trait or hobby, they may have more questions about the diverse world around them.

• What you can do every day: So while you are helping make kids feel special for their valuable differences, make sure to also bring the conversation back to what differences contribute to—rather than ever detract—from a greater good. The ability to work together and respect one another from an early age may be one of the greatest gifts we can give.

5. Lesson Five: Have Fun
• How PAW Patrol is all about fun at the end of the day: When everyone has something unique to bring to the task at hand and when those differences are respected along the way, collaboration leads to awesome results.

• What you can do every day: Consider training for a short race as a family, raising awareness for a favorite family charity or packing up for a picnic this weekend.

Crafting with Nickelodeon: Top Wing Badges

Inspired by the flight crew of Nickelodeon’s Top Wing, inspire your child to earn their own “wings” by creating custom badges for fun experiences and hand them out once they’ve achieved the task. Tune in Weekdays on Nickelodeon for more Top Wing.

Required Supplies

  • Foam Sheets (various colors)
  • Paper (for making a template)
  • Pencil
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Scissors
  • Marker or Puff Paint

Steps

  1. Gather the required supplies to have handy.
  2. Start by drawing a Top Wing inspired badge outline onto a piece of paper to make a template.
  3. Once you’ve created a nice badge shape, use that as your pattern to trace five badges onto different colored foam. Cut the badges out of the foam.
  4. Trace (or freehand) a circle onto the piece of paper so that it is slightly smaller than the center of the badge. Cut it out and trace five circles onto a yellow foam sheet.
  5. Next, draw another circle (that is slightly larger than the yellow foam circle) onto white foam. Cut it out of the foam and use as a pattern piece to draw and cut out four more.
  6. Assemble all of the layers and hot glue into place.
  7. Using puff paint or a marker, give each badge a name and get ready to hand out to your little one as they earn each badge!

Grab your hats and marmalade and get ready for some fun, new adventures with the greatest Peruvian bear you’ll ever meet. Now every family can invite a bear into their homes, thanks to a new Paddington Bear TV series!

In partnership with Studiocanal, Nickelodeon will produce a brand new animated series about Paddington Bear. The new show will feature Ben Whishaw, the same talented voice behind the lovable little bear in the two Paddington Bear feature films. The new show will be aimed at a preschool audience.

“Paddington is such a beloved character for all of us at Studiocanal,” CEO Didier Lupfer said. “We are incredibly happy to be back in his world introducing new generations to his kindness, generosity and spirit.”

The new Paddington Bear series is set to debut later next year on Nickelodeon.

If nautical nonsense be something you wish, then turn your attention to Nickelodeon, where a new SpongeBob spinoff series promises more undersea adventures for fans.

With more young viewers turning their sights on streaming platforms like Netflix and the highly anticipated Disney+, Nickelodeon’s new president Brian Robbins understands that cable networks have to step up their game to entice young audiences. That’s why he just green-lit a new spinoff series based on one of Nickelodeon’s most popular series, Spongebob Squarepants.

Robbins recently revealed his plans to attract viewers to the network saying, “I think today we need to make a volume of quality franchises, but not necessarily feed a million episodes of those shows. We need to keep a constant number of new shows coming, and not necessarily make one show with 80 episodes.”

Sadly the series creator, Stephen Hillenburg, will not be involved in creating the Spongebob spinoff as he passed away last year after battling ALS. There is no word yet on which Bikini Bottom characters will star in the show or when it will air, but it sounds like there will be lots of new fun in the pipeline at Nickelodeon for young fans.

While you wait, you can catch up on all your favorite episodes starring the lovable yellow sponge on the the brand-new Nickelodeon Spongebob channel on YouTube.

The animation universe is about to expand as the voyagers of the Starship Enterprise get ready to seek out new life and new civilizations—in cartoon form! Nickelodeon has just announced a new animated Star Trek series for kids and beam us up, Scotty!

While there are no details on the plot or style of the show, it will likely feature plenty of laughs as it is being written by Kevin and Dan Hageman whose credits include The LEGO Movie and Hotel Transylvania. This actually won’t be the first animated adaptation of the epic franchise. Star Trek: The Animated Series ran for one season in 1973.

The details on the new series are sparse, but like many of the animated Star Wars spin-offs it will be tailored for younger audiences to air on Nickelodeon’s networks. No word yet on when the series will premiere.

We hope this new show will live longer and prosper than its 1973 counterpart!

Why Nickelodeon’s “PAW Patrol” Is Your Preschooler’s Favorite Show

photo: Spin Master Entertainment

Nickelodeon’s pup-tastic show, “PAW Patrol” (created and produced by Spin Master Entertainment), has been a hit with the preschool pack, in part due to the show’s emphasis on teamwork and adventure. With five seasons under its belt, this year will put Tracker into the spotlight during a special episode as he helps Ryder and his lovable posse of pals on a daring mission. Whether you have a preschooler who is already a loyal “PAW Patrol” fan or a rising PAW Patroller eager to meet the team, read on for some of our favorite sayings from the show, and why Tracker’s special episode will have your kids at the edge of their seat.

Who’s Who (and Who’s New!) in the Pack
Beyond the pack’s ringleader, Ryder, you’ll fall in love with the newest “PAW Patrol” member, Tracker who is one cool Chihuahua. With bilingual language skills and a jungle cruiser at the ready, he helps the team whenever Ryder calls him up on his Pup Pad. This dynamic duo is joined by Marshall the fire dog, Chase the police pup and Skye who flies high in her helicopter. With the fun-loving group always at the ready, your kiddos will be rooting them on as they take on their next grand adventure.

Teamwork for the Win: “All Paws on Deck!”
Preschoolers love this heroic pack of pups and their patient, inclusive leader, Ryder. And it sure takes a team to complete every mission! Each of the six main pups, as well as newer members like Everest and Tracker, reflect a real-life role (like Marshall the fire dog or Chase the police pup) and are equipped with special skills, vehicles, and packs to come to any rescue.

As the the group’s fearless leader, Ryder always knows just who to call on to lend a helping paw— from Skye’s flying skills, Rubble’s digger or Rocky’s mechanical claw to get the job done. No pup ever heads into a mission alone. It’s all about teamwork. After all, “no job is too big, no pup is too small!”

Role Models Galore: “PAW Patrol Is on a Roll!”
While this pack is quick to jump into one of their awesome vehicles to come to the rescue, they are also serving as paw-some role models. Ryder, as the leader of the pack, showcases just how much can be accomplished with steady encouragement, clever problem-solving and cooperation on every mission. He’s the group champion and understands each intrepid pup’s strength and weaknesses. When all the pups combine their unique skills and work together, any challenge is surmountable.

New Adventure Awaits: Tracker Is “All Ears”!
Expect grand adventure when Tracker’s episode debuts on February 22. Tracker will be put to the test when three penguins and their ice floe land in the jungle. Ice in the jungle? Preschoolers will quickly figure out that those habitats just don’t mix. Given the icy elements, we have a feeling Ryder will also call up Siberian Husky Everest (whose snowmobile may just come in handy!) to work with Tracker to get the penguins back to their frosty home. Get excited about the new episode featuring Tracker by watching the trailer here:

Nickelodeon’s “Corn & Peg” Is Brand New and Preschooler Approved!

Are you ready to saddle up for a new show? Corn & Peg (produced by Nelvana Studios) is Nickelodeon’s latest addition to its preschool line-up, galloping onto the scene with everything you’d want your kids watching: considerate characters who love to do good in their “hood,” curriculum components that will set little ones up for success later on in kindergarten, and tons of fun examples of how helping the community helps us all—and makes us feel pretty heroic while doing it. Read on for all your preschooler can learn from Corn & Peg, one dynamic doing-good duo!

Who are Corn and Peg?
Only the cutest duo to grace the small screen since Peppa Pig and her little brother George stole your preschooler’s heart. Corn, a la uniCORN and Peg, a la PEGasus (why didn’t we ever think of that!), are sure to do the same as they do good in their community of Galloping Grove. With loads of energy and athleticism, Corn is the lovable jokester and Peg is a playful and big-hearted optimist. Adventure ensues whenever these steeds set out to do good deeds.

Why are they good role models for preschoolers?
You’ll love that the premise of the show is doing good for friends and other members of a diverse community, like Chef Rigatoni, Mayor Montagu, and Coach Clydesdale. It’s a great way for kids, from an early age, to see positive interactions among their peer group as well as their community at large. As Corn and Peg do good deeds, your preschoolers will have great examples of how helping out helps the great big world around them. And all “good doers” have an inspiring new superhero on the Galloping Grove block—Captain Thunderhoof!

What else will preschoolers learn from this show?
Ever notice the “kind” in “kindergarten?” When it comes to kindergarten readiness, a big theme during the preschool years, Corn & Peg makes sure kindness is a key part of what should be brought to any table. Whether kids are picking up on their colors or directions, you’ll love that loads of creativity, early math and literacy skills, health and wellness and emotional intelligence also go along with the adventures. That theme song sure is catchy, too. “Do Gooders Unite!”

Why Families Are Obsessed with Nickelodeon’s Newest Show “Abby Hatcher”

photo: Spin Master Entertainment

You want a show that you can trust and they want a storyline that’s fun and captivating. With Nickelodeon’s brand-new show, Abby Hatcher (created and produced by Spin Master Entertainment), nobody has to compromise. New this year on Nickelodeon from PAW Patrol producers, Abby Hatcher has already zoomed its way into the hearts of families everywhere with its action-packed plot lines, light-hearted antics and Abby Hatcher herself who is compassionate and determined—in other words, the perfect role model for your kiddos. Read on to discover why Abby Hatcher is the “fuzztastic” new preschool show your kids need now.

Who Abby Is & Why You’ll Love Her
Abby Hatcher is one smart, daring girl with a big, nurturing heart and plenty of tricks up her short sleeves. The cool thing about Abby is that she isn’t your typical superheroine—and that’s just the way she likes it. The new show follows Abby as she aims to create an inclusive community for one and all with her acceptance of everyone and eternal optimism.

About These Things Called “Fuzzlies”
Fuzzlies are amazing and quirky creatures that live in Abby’s family’s hotel. Abby, the accepting and optimistic girl that she is, has always known that Fuzzlies are real—it was just a matter of finding them! And lucky for Abby, the grand hotel happens to be full of Fuzzly hideouts. Abby quickly catches Fuzzly friends in each of its nooks and passageways and soon bonds with Bozzly, the cuddly Fuzzly she’s always wanted (and Abby’s the BFF he’s always wanted, too).

In order to help all Fuzzlies and humans live together in harmony, Abby gets to know each of the Fuzzlies’ unique abilities. Your kids will get to know Princess Flug, a regal slug who shimmers with (and sprays!) slime, three-armed Otis who pushes buttons in every sense of the phrase, a colorful chorus of Squeaky Peepers, and many Fuzzlies for preschoolers to catch onto right along with Abby.

Several of the Fuzzlies are learning how to manage big emotions—something parents of preschoolers are all too familiar with. How Abby deals with each of the Fuzzlies’ quirky traits is a great teaching moment for parents and preschoolers alike.

photo: Spin Master Entertainment

What Makes Abby a Good Role Model
Even when the Fuzzlies may cause Abby some frustration, her ability to stay positive aids her in her quest to help each Fuzzly find a place in the hotel. While Abby “gears up” with gadgets like a Fuzzly-Spotter Watch that tracks fuzzlies and opens secret passageways, it’s her kindness and persistence that are her real superpowers. Watching Abby as she stays positive while overcoming challenges is a great lesson for preschoolers to take back to the playground and classroom.

Why Abby Hatcher Is Especially Great for Preschoolers
Preschoolers are like sponges—every day they’re learning new cognitive and social emotional skills, from developing emotional intelligence on the playground with their friends to tying their shoes and telling time. As your preschooler navigates the transition from family to the larger world beyond, Abby’s fierce determination and ever-present optimism will help your kiddo learn up from down and right from wrong.

photo: Spin Master Entertainment

You’ll love that Abby models empathy and effort at every turn. When she isn’t doing all she can on her own to understand the Fuzzlies and what they want or need, she and Bozzly are teaming up to find solutions around the hotel. Your preschooler will watch Abby think through her problem-solving process, try and try again, and be consistently motivated to help her community. This show takes that social emotional knowledge to the next level, with Abby Hatcher showing us just how fun and rewarding it is to be inclusive.
