Summer just got a little more magical! Disney recently announced that the Disneyland Hotel, Disneyland Resort’s original hotel, will reopen on July 2 with limited capacity. Better yet, you can make your room reservations now!
The resort made good use of the closure, updating the upholstery and fabrics throughout the guest rooms, lobbies and meeting rooms. You’ll find a new fireworks pattern in the carpet and graphic elements featuring different park landmarks in the hallways. And there’s plenty of old favorites to choose from: waterslides, spa whirlpools, a pool bar and multiple delicious restaurants.
Best of all, the Disneyland Hotel is located only steps from the park and Disney California Adventure Park. You’ll want to make your theme park reservations online in advance for anyone ages three and up in your family. You can use your hotel confirmation number to see the latest availability for the parks, but you must make a separate reservation to each park you want to visit. Face coverings are required for all guests ages two and older throughout the resort.
The Fantasy Tower is the first part of the resort to reopen and it includes a variety of standard and deluxe rooms to choose from. Look for hidden Mickeys throughout the building, as well as Disney themed decorations in every room. Make dreams come true and book your stay today!
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall for IKEA HEROISK and TALRIKA bowls, plates and mugs. Made from PLA material from renewable sources, the products can become brittle and break, which may cause hot food or liquids to leak and cause burns.
The affected products were sold in a variety of colors including yellow, pink and blue. IKEA has been notified of 123 reports of issues worldwide, including four reports of injuries, most of which were burns.
Consumers can check if their products are affected by looking at the bottom of each product. Recalled items will have a supplier number of “23348,” “Made in Taiwan” and “PLA” molded on to the bottom.
The TALRIKA and HEROISK product were sold at IKEA stores nationwide and online from Aug. 2019 through May 2021 for $4-$12. If you do have a recalled item, stop using it immediately and return to an IKEA location for a full refund.
Summer is just around the corner and kids are counting down the minutes until it’s time to hop in the pool or head to the beach. As we gear up for warm-weather fun, it’s the perfect time for children to strengthen swimming skills or get started with swim lessons.
May is National Water Safety Month, and it’s an important reminder to ensure your children know how to stay safe both in and around the water. From babies to big kids, it’s never too early (or too late) to become a strong, confident swimmer.
Big Blue Swim School helps families build the critical skills kids need to be safe in the water. Learn more about Big Blue Swim School in Chicago and Atlanta!
Drowning is the number one cause of unintentional injury-related death for children age 1-4 and can happen in less than 60 seconds. Most drownings happen during the height of the summer swim season from June to August, and according to the CDC, almost 1,000 U.S. children drowned in 2017. Even non-fatal drowning accidents can have long-term effects, including severe brain damage, long-term memory problems and learning disabilities.
The good news is that swimming lessons and family water safety help reduce the risk of drowning. Taking part in formal swimming lessons reduces the risk of drowning by 88 percent.
To prevent tragedy, the American Red Cross recommends every family member learn to swim and be able to do each of these safely:
Enter the water
Get a breath
Stay afloat
Change position
Swim a distance
Get out of the water
Big Blue Swim School is committed to teaching kids these six skills as part of their approach to learning to swim. With four levels of curriculum spanning 10 levels of instruction, each child moves up to the next level once they achieve the skills required, not when they complete a set number of classes. The friendly, professional swim instructors make learning fun. Progress is always celebrated, encouraging kids to overcome their fears and feel proud of their achievements.
Water safety requires teamwork, and Big Blue Swim School prioritizes working with parents to ensure their child’s safety in and out of the water.
While spending time by the water with your family this summer, keep Big Blue Swim School’s L.A.P.S. reminders top of mind:
Lifeguards are not babysitters Always designate a Water Watcher Protect yourself and your kids by wearing life jackets Swim with a buddy
Busy parents love the ease of using Big Blue’s mobile app to schedule swimming lessons. Big Blue’s schedule allows families with multiple kids to schedule all their lessons at the same time, regardless of skill level. The app also makes self-check-in screening a breeze. Big Blue follows expansive COVID-19 protocols, continually monitoring CDC guidelines and state and local regulations. All locations ensure social distancing and enhanced cleaning.

One of Peloton’s most popular pieces of workout equipment is under voluntary recall. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CSPC) made the announcement after Peloton received information the products have caused one death and multiple injury reports.
Two different models are involved: the Tread+ with model number T01 and the Tread with model number T02. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CSPC) advises that owners of either model immediately stop using the treadmills and contact Peloton for a full refund.
In the case of the Tread+, adult users, children, pets or objects can be pulled underneath the rear of the treadmill, potentially causing injury or death. A six-year-old child recently tragically died and Peloton has received 72 reports of incidents involving the unit. There are about 125,000 units under recall and the model number TR01 is printed on a black sticker located on the end cap in the front of the treadmill deck.
If you decide to keep your Tread+, move it to a room where children and pets cannot access it. In addition, Peloton is implementing software improvements to the product to automatically lock the Tread+ after each use and prevent unauthorized access by assigning a 4-digit passcode that will be required to unlock the Tread+.
Additionally, some Peloton Tread owners will be affected by another recall. The touchscreen on this treadmill can detach and fall, posing risk of injury to users. There have been reports of minor injuries in Canada and the United Kingdom. There are about 1,050 units under recall in the U.S. and 5,400 in Canada. The model number TR02 is printed on a black sticker located on the end cap in the front of the treadmill deck.
If you decide to keep a Tread under recall, Peloton is offering a free inspection and repair that will secure the touchscreen to the treadmill. The company has stopped sales and distribution of the Tread+ at this time.

Top honors went to Space Mountain. This classic attraction ranked as the overall Disney World number one in a whopping 13 states. When it comes to the Magic Kingdom only, Space Mountain was in the top spot in 14 states.
Other top-ranking rides include the Haunted Mansion (number one in 12 states), Big Thunder Mountain (number one in five states), It’s a Small World (also number one in five states) and Pirates of the Caribbean (number one in three states).
Upgraded Points CEO, Alex Miller, said in a press release, “Our data clearly show that when people develop a liking or loyalty to some aspect of their theme park experience, that becomes a strong trigger to send them back again-and-again. Kids who come to love a certain theme park ride will, in time, return with their children and experience it again through the joy and delight of their own children.”
To see which rides were the highest rated by state in each of the other three Disney World parks, visit Upgraded Points here for full survey data.
