Tired of watching the same episode of your kid’s favorite show over and over… and over? A new Netflix feature that shuffles shows could change the way your family watches a series.

Similar to the shuffle function on a music playlist the new feature will shuffle episodes of Netflix series so that viewers can watch random episodes. The idea is that it will encourage viewers to discover new shows when they can’t decide what to watch. The benefit is that you can avoid getting stuck watching the same things over again, which all parents can agree is no fun. The option is currently in the testing phase so it is only available on a few shows and only via the Android mobile app.

“We are testing the ability for members to play a random episode from different TV series on the Android mobile app. These tests typically vary in length of time and by region, and may not become permanent,” a Netflix spokesperson told TechCrunch.

In other words, if it seems to catch on in popularity among Netflix subscribers, there’s a chance you could see it expanded to more shows.

Royal baby watch is in full effect as the world counts down to the arrival of the newest royal with the birth of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby. Whole Foods is helping fans celebrate with a royal addition: cheese. Yes, really.

Whole Foods’ limited-edition “Royal Addition Cheese” is an exclusive item that will be available at select stores nationwide. “Cheddar is one of the most popular cheeses in both the U.K. and the U.S. and this rustic English cheese embodies the cultures of both the Duke and Duchess – just like the royal baby! In addition, the Royal Mark cheese uses tropical fruit pulp annatto to give the cheese a unique, vibrant orange hue, to match Prince Harry’s signature hair,” reads the Whole Foods description.

The red cheddar cheese, dubbed the Westminster Royal Mark, is made of the highest quality in Southwest England. It will cost $9.99 to $12.99 for a block, depending on the region.

When that cheese hits store shelves is entirely up to the new royal baby however. The cheese will become available only when the baby makes his or her appearance. With estimates putting Meghan Markle’s due date at late April or early May, it shouldn’t be much longer.

Not one, but two new Pokémon games for the Nintendo Switch are set to launch this year—and you really gotta catch ’em both if you want to get in on all the Pokémon awesomeness!

Nintendo just announced its latest additions to the Pokémon game universe in the form of Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. Like other titles in the Pokémon video game universe, the two games operate in duality, offering similar game play but differing in characters and storylines.

Players will be introduced to a whole new line up of yet unseen Pokémon and, like previous Pokémon iterations, players start with the option of choosing between three new starter Pokémon, including the rabbit Pokémon Scorbunny, the water lizard Pokémon Sobble and the chimp Pokémon Grookey.

The universe in Sword and Shield is known as the Galar region, which like past games, is inspired by real world geography. In this case the countrysides and snowy mountains are meant to mimic the United Kingdom.

Both games will be available in late 2019, just in time to fill those holiday wish lists.

If you’re wondering whether your baby will grow up to be right- or left-handed, the answer could be in the way infants are fed. New research has linked hand preference to whether or not babies are breastfed or bottle-fed.

The study, conducted by researchers at the University of Washington, found that bottle-fed babies are more likely to be left-handed. The study looked at data from about 60,000 infant and mom pairs and found that left-handedness was lower among breastfed babies than bottle-fed babies.

“We think breastfeeding optimizes the process the brain undergoes when solidifying handedness,” said Philippe Hujoel, the study’s author, a professor at the UW’s School of Dentistry and adjunct professor of epidemiology at the School of Public Health. “That’s important because it provides an independent line of evidence that breastfeeding may need to last six to nine months.”

It’s important to note that the study does not show that breastfeeding leads to right-handedness, only that breastfeeding might optimize a process called brain lateralization, which determines when the region of the brain that controls handedness localizes to one side of the brain. Hand preference is set early in fetal life and is at least partially determined by genetics, Hujoel explained.

When the winter months finally arrive and the temperature drops lower than comfortable, Australia is the place you want to be. With winter raging on everywhere else, Australians are celebrating their New Year in their swimwear, on the beach, grilling some meat on the barbie in the process.

Aside from being the perfect place to enjoy the sunny weather and lounge on its expansive beaches, Australia is also the place where you can have wholesome family fun. Even though the continent is too rich and diverse to be experienced in a single trip, there are several destinations you simply can’t miss.

Tour Sydney on a ferry boat.

When you think of Australia, the iconic city of Sydney is most likely the first thing that comes to mind. And rightfully so, because this expansive urban gem is not only the country’s cultural hub, but also a true architectural wonderland. In order to experience Sydney from a different perspective, though, you should head over to the Sydney Harbour.

Running around the Harbour trying to keep your kids in line is fun on its own, but the most memorable experience comes in the form of a boat tour around the city. The ferry will take you through all the mesmerizing sights such as the Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, all the way to Fort Denison and Cockatoo Island. This is the perfect place to disembark for a relaxing family picnic. If you’re up for an extended excursion, take the ferry to Darling Harbour where you can visit amazing kid-friendly places such as the Wild Life Sydney Zoo, the Darling Quarter Playground and the Sydney Sea Life Aquarium.

Drive across Tasmania.

Out of all the scenic drives and mesmerizing natural oases in Australia, the southern island of Tasmania might just be the most exciting road trip destination for a family. Even though it’s considered to be one of the smaller regions, you will still need a car in order to get around the island efficiently. Fortunately, Tasmania has reliable cheap car hire in almost every city so you should have no problem getting around.

And good thing too, because the packed itinerary will take you from Freycinet National Park to Coles Bay (and excellent place for kayaking), Tahune Forest where you will be scaling the treetops, and of course, Mt Wellington where you can enjoy panoramic views and even cycle down with the family. Tasmania is also famous for its ghost tours, so head over to Hobart, Launceston or Port Arthur with your kids after dark if a good spook is what they are craving.

Exploring the Top End

Over at the top end, numerous natural and urban attractions await, including the historic city of Darwin. Be wary though, Darwin and the region in general are extremely hot this time of year, so adequate sun protection and regular cool-offs are a must. The best thing to do is to go for a rejuvenating swim in the ocean throughout the day.

You can do this in the city at the Waterfront Precinct, or if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, you can drive over to Litchfield National Park where you can have fun with the family under the waterfalls. While you’re in the region, be sure to check out the indigenous rock art at Kakadu National Park and go for a kayaking tour in Nitmiluk National Park. Top it all off with a visit to the Crocosaurus Cove back in downtown Darwin.

Experience the beauty of the Great Barrier Reef.

Travel east and you will end up in Queensland, the home of the world-renowned Great Barrier Reef. You will need to travel to the far north to experience this adventure, all the way up to Cairns or Port Douglas. From one of these ports, you can board a catamaran that will take you to one of the atolls in the inner reef, or you can embark on a whole-day trip to the outer regions.

This is the place where you want to let yourself go to the mesmerizing beauty of the colorful underwater wonderland, as you take a prolonged snorkeling tour around the reef and watch as the marine life swirls and dances around you. Truly an unforgettable experience.

Visit the theme parks in Gold Coast.

While you’re in the region (but definitely not close), you shouldn’t miss the opportunity to visit the country’s adventure central—the Gold Coast. The kids are going to love it here. On offer you have five grand theme parks, including Dreamworld, WhiteWater World, Sea World, Wet’n’Wild and Movie World.

It’s bound to be an exhaustive weekend for you, but at least the kids are going to have the time of their lives. Plus, it’s an excellent way to top off an amazing Australian adventure with your family. Don’t forget to explore the Gold Coast’s beach suburbs as well if you’re up for some whale-watching, sea-kayaking, surfing and even jet-skiing.

When the rest of the world is covered in snow, Australia becomes a safe haven for families yearning to feel a warming ray of sunshine on their skin. With these top destinations in your itinerary, you’re bound to have the time of your life this January under the glistening Aussie sun.

After last week’s major recall on romaine lettuce, plenty of us have been wondering, “Is romaine lettuce safe to eat?” As it turns out, yes—but only under very limited circumstances, as noted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration.

Following an E. coli outbreak that was linked to contaminated romaine, the CDC and FDA cautioned everyone to stay away from the popular leafy green. So if the lettuce shelves at your local grocer look bare, that’s why. You may have also noticed that any restaurant—from the finest foodie establishments to fast food chains—carrying salads, sandwiches or other romaine-containing products put a hold on selling those lettuce-centric items.

Following the Nov. 20 update, 11 more cases of romaine-related E. coli were reported. This includes 43 cases across 12 state. Without a specific source, the CDC and FDA had n choice but to tell everyone to avoid all romaine. But now their investigation has narrowed down the contamination to lettuce from northern and central California.

Even though these agencies now have a general idea as to where the romaine originated, they are yet to find a precise grower or distributor. According to the CDC’s website, “If you do not know where the romaine is from, do not eat it.”

Some romaine is currently labeled with the harvest growing region, but this doesn’t apply to all romaine or products containing romaine. If you can’t find a label, there is no label or the label indicates that the lettuce is from the Central Coastal growing region of California, do NOT eat it.

The CDC and FDA’s current announcement that some lettuce is safe to eat does not apply to all romaine. Caution is absolutely necessary until the investigation pinpoints the exact source of the E. coli contamination.

Packing up the car and hitting the open road can be a perfect opportunity to bond with your family. But, organizing a successful and safe road trip requires a bit of planning ahead. Take along these tips to properly prepare for your time in the car and make your family holiday road trip a happy and safe one.

Is your car safe enough for long trips?

Make sure it is. Schedule a quick maintenance appointment with a qualified mechanic at your local garage to fix anything that looks funky before it’s time to drive. Ensure that your car is in its best condition to prevent any mishaps or breakdowns while on the road. Check your brakes, tire pressure, battery, belts, air conditioner, etc. If you’re planning on driving in a region with a hot climate or in towing a boat or trailer, get a motor oil with a higher viscosity as well.

Stock up on supplies.

Take an inventory of all items in your car just to be sure you have flares, jumper cables, a flashlight, all necessary tools and other emergency supplies you may need while on the road.

Also, make sure that you don’t run out of fuel for both your car and your bellies. Keep everyone and everything fueled by stocking up on drinks, provisions, and fuel. Pack a full fuel can in your trunk just in case you run out of it in the middle of nowhere. Getting stuck on the side of the road in an unknown region won’t just delay your road trip, but it can be dangerous as well.

Pack your items safely.

Make sure you don’t have bags that aren’t properly secured or some other loose items in your car as they can become dangerous if you stop suddenly or become involved in an accident. You shoul put those items that are the heaviest in your car and toward the center. Tie down big bags or other bulky items such as strollers, and keep windows unobstructed. Give your children smaller bags to store electronics, snacks, and other essentials within reach. Don’t forget to check your child safety seats and whether everything is installed properly. If it happens that your family’s pet is making the journey with you, secure them or their traveling kennel as well.

Keep an eye on the sky.

Weather may be different in different regions, so you should make sure that you are ready for any situation. Download an application on your smartphone to stay informed on moving storms. You can also turn the radio if you don’t have a cell phone service. Look up for NOAA radio Oceanic radio station in your state or tune into any other FM news frequency to stay up-to-date with weather alerts. This can help you avoid bad weather or give you enough time to prepare yourself and find an alternate route or a safe location where to wait until the storm passes.

Get some rest.

Make sure you get some rest before you hit the road as driving while tired is equally dangerous like driving while under alcohool influence. Studies show that driving after being awake for long hours causes your brain to function like the brain of someone with blood alcohol content of 0.05% and as the time passes this amount doubles.

Statistics show that every year drowsy drivers cause over a thousand fatal accidents. So, to avoid accidents and keep your family safe on the road, get enough rest before you begin your road trip. Also, make frequent stops during your trip to stretch your legs, refresh yourself or trade off with someone who is refreshed, talk to your kids to stay alert, etc.

Be aware of other drivers on the road.

Just like there are people who drive while tired, there are also those who drive while drunk or while under the influence of some other substance. Car accidents can happen at any moment and it is best that you are properly prepared. Take all necessary documentation with you as well as your insurance card, and ask your lawyer what to do and how to behave if an accident still occurs.

What’s even better than a brand new set of LEGO bricks? An entire theme park dedicated to them, of course. And now, little (and big) LEGO lovers in the Northeast are about to have a LEGOLAND in their own backyards with the opening of a new theme park in New York.

Merlin Entertainments Chief Executive Officer Nick Varney made the official announcement that LEGOLAND is going forward with its plans to open its third US theme park in 2020. The site of the new park will be in the town of Goshen in Orange County. Empire State Development President, CEO, and Commissioner Howard Zemsky said, “LEGOLAND New York will further anchor the Mid-Hudson region as a top-notch destination for visitors to New York State.”

The park, like the eight others operating around the globe, will feature attractions for LEGO fans of all ages, including rides and shows all built around the world’s most famous plastic bricks. The New York park will be open seasonally from April 1 to November 1 and will also include a 250-room LEGO-themed hotel that will be open year-round.

If it sometimes feels like your two year old couldn’t care less about your feelings, don’t take it personally. Research has revealed that being able to care about anyone other than themselves is a trait most kids don’t achieve until they graduate from toddlerhood.

A new study published in Nature Communications says that it’s not until the mature age of four years old that kids develop empathy. The social awareness of other’s thoughts and feelings is linked to the develop of a fiber connection in the brain, which doesn’t fully mature until a child turns four. The fiber connects two critical parts of the brain, a region that “supports adult thinking about others and their thoughts,” and a second region that involves understanding how the real world works. Once these two are connected, kids can start to understand how other people think.

In other words, it’s not that your toddler thinks she’s the queen of the world, it’s that the part of the brain that helps her comprehend that other people have feelings isn’t up and running yet.

What age did your kids start to show signs of empathy? Share your experience in the comments.
