The Garden by Equal Play - San Mateo, CA
Equal Play
We may still be waiting on equal pay, but in the meantime, there's Equal Play, a calm and quiet distraction-free, fully-equipped co-working space for parents/loving learning environment for kids "where everyone grows." The caregivers on staff have taken a minimum of 12 units of Early Childhood Education and are trained in positive discipline, so you can rest assured your kiddos (infancy to school-age) are being well cared for in The Play Garden or The Nursery while you work (both are screen-free as well).
There are several options of membership as well as hourly and daily rates. Founded by a mom, The Garden by Equal Play wants to accommodate parents by being flexible and working with them to ensure they can meet their needs no matter how large or small. Coffee and tea are complimentary, and meals are available for purchase. Kids are treated to a healthy, nut-free breakfast and lunch during their stay.
Good to know: There are nursing/napping rooms outfitted with hospital-grade breast pumps.
More than a co-working spot, The Inc. is on a mission to shift today's parenting paradigm. Their vision is "to achieve gender equity in entrepreneurship, in the workplace and at home." They've realized that childcare is the most important component of achieving gender equity, so they've created this "modern-day village" as a brilliant solution. The Inc. affords parents a flexible co-working space where they can drop off their kids in one of the nearby Playschool rooms and go accomplish their work goals. Members have access to parent-only co-working rooms, a break room for community connection, high-speed WiFi and printer, a Cowork + Coplay room, free/discounted workshops and classes and more. They want to help parents make the juggling act work by offering a space to learn, work and grow while their toddlers and preschoolers are being cared for.
Good to know: Parents must remain on-site and will be paged if their kiddo needs a diaper change or to use the potty.
Work and Play offers a flexible, state-licensed early childhood Reggio-inspired program for parents who utilize their workspace, as well as customized schedules for other parents in the community who need part-time care. Available to kids under age six, the program seeks to create independent thinkers and a new generation of entrepreneurs. Both their co-working space and their early childhood program are about building community, and their mission is to offer a solution to working parents who want to continue building their own careers and professional development while also taking part in the day-to-day activities of their families. For parents worried about the division of work and play, it's good to know that a lot of care went into soundproofing so that adults barely know there are kids in the same building. The early childcare program is on the lower level, and the office space is above them on the first floor. Each also has separate entrances, so those without kids downstairs won't even know there's childcare on site.
Good to know: Work and Play have two locations in South Orange. Their flagship at 19 Prospect St. is the location that has childcare. Their second location—just down the street—has private offices and an additional co-working space and a meeting room.

Nido - Durham, NC
Nido
Nido is a co-working community that began with a potluck and has founding members who have based their model on building community between families. The Montessori school offers half-day morning or afternoon options for kids ages six months to six-years-old, and the ambiance is serene and beautiful while the learning focus encourages kids to be "productive, creative and self-driven," "a perfect mirror" to their co-working space.

If this sounds like your vibe, visit an open house meeting (offered twice monthly) or make an appointment to go in and meet the other moms and introduce your kids. Then complete their membership application and have a reference check for child safety. Parents must stay on-site to utilize the childcare for kids ages five months to six-years-old. Two Birds
Part childcare center, part co-working space, Two Birds does exactly what the name suggests, allowing working parents to check two boxes off their daily list at once. While the space is designed to give working parents a workplace they can bring their kids to, each component also stands on its own. In other words, you can use the co-working space without bringing your tots along and vice versa you can enroll your kids on the childcare side, which is Reggio-Emilia inspired, without utilizing the workspace. This unique set up gives parents several options to meet flexible schedules. Two Birds also features a nursing lounge and has future plans to offer events and workshops on working parenting.

Staying active while pregnant is great for both you and your baby’s health. Whether it be yoga classes, light lifting, or taking walks, any exercise that gets your heart pumping is a fantastic addition to your daily pregnancy routine and a great way to stay healthy. Jaime McFaden, a mom and trainer with audio fitness app Aaptiv, is sharing the various ways you can stay active during and after your pregnancy.
Consistent exercise during pregnancy has countless benefits, including improving your overall health, reducing your risk of weight gain, and can even facilitate a smoother delivery process. However, it’s always most important to listen to your body and base your workouts on how you—and your baby—are feeling. Each pregnancy is different, and there are no hard and fast rules on what you should be doing during each step of your pregnancy.
With that being said, here is a great general guide of the best exercises for pregnant and postpartum women. I suggest trying these out and seeing how your body reacts—every pregnancy is unique, after all.
Workouts by Trimester
Before beginning any exercise, especially while pregnant, be sure to get clearance from your doctor. Additionally, you should be adapting your workout routine based on the trimester you are in. Each trimester comes with its own challenges, so adjusting your workout based on how your body is growing and changing is a necessity.
First Trimester
During the first trimester, women are usually feeling totally normal or like complete crap. The first trimester can be awful for some women, so be sure to listen to how your body is feeling and not to push it too hard. Jaime recommends low-intensity cardio and light strength training. If you didn’t work out regularly before pregnancy, it is essential to ease yourself into an exercise regimen to prevent overworking yourself.
Second Trimester
During the second trimester, Jaime suggests keeping your workouts at an intensity level of 60-70% and warns against pushing your body too hard. Full-body workouts like yoga are a great option during this trimester, as opposed to targeting specific muscle groups with strength training. As your body begins to change more, it’s essential to create a workout routine that is adaptable and sustainable for you.
Third Trimester
The third trimester sometimes feels like it’s never going to end, but don’t worry—you’re in the home stretch! This trimester is when your body is being constantly stretched and pushed, and many expectant moms are feeling especially tired. If you aren’t feeling up for exercise, that’s totally OK! However, if you still want to get your heart pumping, walking, swimming, and other low-intensity exercises like water aerobics are all great options.
Postpartum Exercises
Congratulations on welcoming your new baby into your life! After giving birth, doctors advise against exercising for at least 6-8 weeks. During this time, you can focus on letting your body rest and bonding with your new baby. When you’re feeling comfortable enough, be sure to gradually ease back into exercise by making an effort to move a little every day until you’re feeling up for more.
When you’re starting out exercising again, it’s important to do kegel exercises. Your pelvic floor muscles are weakened during birth, and doing kegel exercises afterward is helpful to strengthen them and prevent incontinence. Kegel exercises may feel more difficult at first, but don’t worry—this is completely normal. In time, everything will start feeling normal again.
Low-impact activities like walking, swimming, yoga, and water aerobics are all great options for postpartum moms to ease back into exercising. Just remember, there is no secret formula for postpartum moms—the best workout is the one that works for you!
Additionally, working on your core strength postpartum is helpful for a quicker recovery. Regaining your core strength and stability is a long process that takes time and patience. It’s suggested to avoid core exercises where you are twisting or laying on your back, like crunches. Some wonderful options include raised leg extensions, the yoga boat, and leg and arm extensions.

Shorty Yoga This intimate, chic-meets-tranquility, all-kids (from newborns to tweens) studio is where you’ll find dope mini yogis doing downward dog most days of the week. Though it’s located in Beverly Hills, the ambiance here is anything but hoity-toity. Your little ones will dance, jump and soar across the studio while listening to pop music for the better part of the class. Cheery teachers use ribbons and other yoga props to help kids get their wiggles out during the 45-minute session.
The 2 to 4-year-old class is artfully instructed to include imaginative games and all-out silliness mixed in with basic yoga poses. When class winds down, even the most energetic of kids will surprisingly (and impressively) melt into the sweetest teacher-led savasana.
Insider tip: The signature Mamastay class centers on little ones but also gives caretakers a chance to stretch those tired limbs. And a heads up for new clients—use code REDTRI to try your first class for free.

Taking that first step to getting fit is never easy, and with a new baby, it can seem downright impossible. Luckily there are several fitness programs out there that understand the importance of helping moms make time for themselves and their health, while still caring for their kiddo. We’ve rounded up a variety of classes around L.A. that have created specific programs catered to moms who are looking to get healthy—all with baby on board.

Fit4Mom The country’s largest fitness programs for moms in every stage of motherhood, each location offers classes ranging from pre-to-postnatal fitness. Safely get fit while your bun is still in the oven as Fit4Baby instructors take you through modified yet effective workouts, and then once your little bundle of joy has entered the world, both the Stroller Strides and Stroller Barre programs get you and your little sidekick out of the house and into a stroller-based workout. Instructors help keep restless riders entertained while leading moms through exercises that incorporate resistance bands, cardio, strength training, and core work, all in a completely judgment-free zone. Fit4Mom is also all about helping to connect moms with after-class playgroups and Mom’s Night Outs. With the come-as-you-are attitude, it’s a great place for new moms to build their village.
Fit4Mom Franchises are located all over L.A. County: Westside, South Bay LA, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Torrance, San Fernando Valley, Palos Verdes and San Pedro, and Long Beach.
Baby Boot Camp This is no stroll in the park, though you may find yourself working out in one! Nationally certified fitness professionals lead classes for stages ranging from pre-to-postnatal, including Birth Recovery, Diastasis Repair, and Nutrition Education. Baby Boot Camp is also there to provide a supportive environment for moms to build and strengthen their community through their MomStrong Tribe. Happy Baby While the South Bay’s Happy Baby studio embraces a holistic approach, using mindfulness and a nurturing environment, it also wants to help mamas carting around their kiddos to get their booties in gear. Happy Baby offers several yoga and movement classes, but for those looking to really break a sweat, they offer three classes created to push your limit while regaining strength and clarity of mind. Newborns to three-year-olds are welcome to watch mom bust a move (and maybe even learn some themselves) at Mama Cardio Blast, taking moms through muscle-trembling cardio bursts and strengthening circuits, followed by ab work and stretching. Likewise, Mama Sculpt uses both full-range motion and isometric pulses to focus on building core strength and muscle sculpting. A Mama Bootcamp class is also offered, where pre-walking babies up to 14 months are welcome to join mom in a boot camp-inspired circuit training class.

Zooga Yoga In addition to a variety of yoga classes, this studio offers a Baby Booty Barre class where parents and caregivers are welcome to bring their little ones aged six weeks to sitting for one of the most challenging Parent + Me fitness classes they offer. Mixing core, barre, and boot camp styles, the class helps you bond and burn with baby, either by your side or in a carrier. Similarly, the studio’s Yoga Sculpt & Baby class is a full body toning experience done with six-week-old babies to crawlers that help build the muscles mamas need to safely carry and hold baby without compromising posture. For those who love to bust a move while they sweat, their signature Kangaroo Hop invites dancers aged two-to-five to have a blast dancing to modern and old-school hip-hop with their adult dance partners.

Dailey Baby Born out of the ballet barre fitness craze that burst onto the scene back in 2000, The Dailey Method offers classes that combine ballet barre work, core conditioning, and muscle strengthening. A variety of workout types put the focus on proper alignment, posture, and strength, which is especially important in the Dailey Baby class (starting up again in Mar.). In this special mommy and me class, exercises and moves are tailored to include your little bundle (ages six weeks to seven months) in a front carrier. Moms can gain strength and balance as they bond with their infants, and start off on a path of healthy living, all with baby in tow. Need to nurse, feed, bounce, or soothe your baby while you workout? Not a problem, it’s all part of the fun at Dailey Baby.
T.O.T. Fitness For a whole family, killer 60-minute, full body workout at the park, look no further. Each class starts with kids in their strollers so mom can get in some walking or jogging cardio and burn up those lower body muscles with squats and lunges. During the second half, riders are released for some play time while adults continue with circuit training exercises, rounding out a total body workout. As an added bonus, you’re already at a park with other families, so you’ve basically got a built-in playdate ready to go right after class. You can cool down and chat with other moms while your kids get out that last bit of energy before nap time. In addition to exercise classes, the program also offers nutrition and wellness coaching, which includes menu planning, grocery tours, and even kitchen makeovers.
