After a long year of sticking close to home, families are starting to dust off their travel clothes, pack up their cars and hit the open road in search of family fun somewhere other than their backyard. If you’re on the hunt for a little bit of adventure and are excited to explore somewhere new with your family, Springfield, Missouri might just be the ideal destination for your next family trip!

Springfield, known as the gateway to the great outdoors by both travelers and locals alike, is a well-loved destination for those seeking easy access to both indoor and outdoor recreation and a wide variety of family-friendly attractions and experiences.

Right now, families can save big on a trip to Springfield! From April 1- June 27, visitors who spend at least two nights in a hotel, spend time at three attractions in Springfield and enjoy a meal or a drink at three different Springfield establishments are eligible for a free night of accommodations in Springfield!

One of the city’s most popular destinations is the Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium. As you walk through the aquarium, you’ll enjoy exploring unique habitats filled with an expansive variety of animals and learning all about the creatures that call the aquarium home. You’ll also have the chance to learn about the role that conservation plays in improving marine habitats across the world and, if you’re lucky, get up close and personal with penguins or sharks during an encounter that your little ones will never forget!

If your family is interested in outdoor recreation, you’ll also be excited to visit the world’s first and largest Bass Pro Shop, Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World—with over 500,000 square feet immersive shopping space. Your family can learn about Missouri’s native fish at one of the store’s seven intricate aquariums or visit with the turtles and alligators who live in the in-store swamp. Adults and big kids will enjoy the archery and shooting ranges while even the littlest visitors will get excited about the full-service on-site restaurant known for its delicious fudge.

Once you’ve hit up Bass Pro Shop Outdoor World for gear, you’ll have to decide between hiking, biking, paddling or floating your way through the Ozarks. With more than 90 parks in the Springfield-Greene County Parks system that feature playgrounds, pools, tennis courts, a farm, an ice arena and more, it won’t be hard to find a park with something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

Opportunities to get on the water and float through the Ozarks abound and, if you book a float trip through one of the many float companies in Springfield, your guide will be able to point you in the direction of the best post-floating dinner and drink options in town!

While there’s lots of fun to be had on land and on water, nothing says adventure quite like going underground: Missouri has over 7,000 caves. Explore a former underground speakeasy or a cavernous venue for country music, and discover 200-year-old cave drawings, fossils and stunning geological formations!

No matter how you choose to spend your time in Springfield, you’ll head home already looking forward to coming back to experience more of the Ozarks!

Don’t wait to book your next trip: From April 1- June 27, visitors who spend at least two nights in a hotel, spend time at three attractions in Springfield and enjoy a meal or a drink at three different Springfield establishments are eligible for a free night of accommodations in Springfield!

New York City has enough hot spots to keep you busy for weeks—now there’s one more destination to add to the list for your family trip. The LEGO Group has launched a ‘retailtainment’ NYC store and at 7,175 square feet and two stories, you might want to make an afternoon of it!

The whole family will love the immersive world inside the new store, which blends digital and physical experiences. Head to the Brick Lab where you can build with physical sets and enter a virtual world that brings the walls, floors and ceilings to life with light, sound and music. Scan your build and watch it come to life!

Make sure to stop by the Tree of Discovery for a fantastic photo opp. It’s made of over 880,000 LEGO bricks and took 1,900 hours to construct. The builders want it to symbolize LEGO Group’s commitment to positively impacting the planet. Look closely at the rainbow trunk for hidden details like mini scenes, kaleidoscopes and picture viewers!

Ready for more? Visit the Personalization Studio for fun, unique builds, the Mosaic Maker to create your own personalized mosaic LEGO portrait, or the LEGO Minifigure Factory to create an awesome souvenir for you or a family member. You’ll also find larger-than-life 3D LEGO models throughout the store, including Thor, Spiderman, the Statue of Liberty and Ghostbusters characters.

The new store officially opened on Friday, June 25 at 636 Fifth Avenue in New York City. You can book your in-store experiences now to make your trip extra memorable. And if you can’t make it to the Big Apple, the LEGO Group plans to introduce the immersive concept at more than 100 stores around the world during the next year.

These Are the Best Places Around the Globe to Travel with Kids

28 Beaches We Wish We Were On Right Now

Whether your little one has a bump, scrape or break, or something more serious, keeping your kids healthy and happy is a challenge every parent faces. Luckily, when your child does need more serious care, healthcare experts specializing in tiny humans are there to save the day. We talked to five physicians from top-ranked Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C. to hear the things they wish all parents knew about their child’s healthcare—from prevention to how to make hospital visits less stressful.

Learn more and help your loved ones grow up strong with Children’s National Hospital.

Here’s what they had to say:

It's Okay to Ask Questions

Your doctors are there to help your family, which means helping you understand exactly what's going on. “Ask questions and don't be afraid to say when you don't understand,” says Children’s National Hospital Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist Elizabeth Sherwin. “Medicine has its own language and vocabulary, and it is important to ask for clarification if something doesn't sound familiar or make sense. We want you to feel heard, and we want you to understand what is being discussed.”

Check in With Your Doctor

If you're not sure whether or not that owie, rash or cough warrants a trip to the doctor, you can always reach out before making the trip. “Do not delay in seeing a medical professional for any worrisome condition. Many visits qualify for an initial telehealth appointment. You can ask your provider if that’s an option,” says Timothy Kane, Chief, Division of General & Thoracic Surgery.

This year, Children’s National Hospital is celebrating 150 years of pediatric care, research and commitment to community! Learn more and help your loved ones grow up strong with Children’s National Hospital.

Sometimes There's Not An Easy Answer

As much as your child's doctor wants to give you an answer quickly, it's not always feasible. Associate Division Chief of Oncology Eugene Hwang shares: “Sometimes, there isn't a perfect test to diagnose a problem, and it may take time, careful observation and repeated visits in order to make the best decisions regarding diagnostic or treatment procedures.”

Give Your Doctors Details

When it comes to your child's health, there's no such thing as oversharing. Cardiologist Niti Dham says: “We want parents to feel empowered and advocate for their child. We want to hear from them. The parents’ perspective and observations at home are just as, if not more, important than what we see in the office. We want to hear how the child is doing at home: Are symptoms improving or worsening? Are they tolerating the medicines? Are there any other concerns?”

Children’s National is ranked number 1 for newborn care for the fourth straight year and as one of the top 10 pediatric hospitals in the country by U.S. News & World Report. Learn more and help your loved ones grow up strong with Children’s National Hospital.

Florida has thrilling theme parks, beautiful beaches, amazing art museums and an abundance of other adventures. But do you know it also has the best places for spotting shells or the local restaurants that kids will love?

A vacation to Florida offers up so many options for families that it can be a challenge to narrow them down—which is why we’ve teamed up with three local moms to get their insider knowledge. Here’s what three Florida-based mom bloggers say are their must-dos on a Florida vacation:

Champagne Supernova

Tampa-based mom Jennifer likes to head the family to Boca Grande or Islamorada when they’re looking for an in-state adventure. Boca Grande is their go-to place for relaxing and searching for sand dollars, followed by a cone at Dolphin Cove. For brunch, she suggests a stop at the beachy-themed Gasparilla Inn. Jennifer also suggests Islamorada for an action-packed trip, including diving for spiny lobster (with Morado Bay as a backup in case your catch doesn’t go as planned) and heading to the coral reef near Alligator Point to snorkel with the tropical fish in their natural habitat.

Everyday with Ember

Sherri and her two kids love the beaches near their South Florida home, but when they’re looking for another place to cool off, they head to Coconut Cove Waterpark in Boca Raton, which has two four-story waterslides. An afternoon in nearby Downtown Delray is also a day well spent, thanks to more than 100 local boutiques and galleries. When your family can’t decide where to eat, the new Delray Beach Market is a lifesaver, with tons of dining options under one roof. Sherri also suggests wandering around Mizner Park in East Boca and a stop at Rex Baron for dinner. It’s an AR experience and restaurant, so you can check multiple vacation boxes at one stop.

Mommyhood Joy

Kimberly’s two little ones love animals, which is why she suggests a trip to Butterfly World (home to over 20,000 butterflies!) in Coconut Creek or Lion Country Safari (with a drive-thru safari and animal feeding!) in Loxahatchee. When it’s time to cool off, Kimberly suggests Haulover Park in Miami for a dip in the ocean. If oceanside is more your style, 50ocean and Latitudes are both beachfront restaurants with stunning views.

And when summer rolls around, dive into amazing pools and take your pick of outdoor activities. It’s no surprise that loyal visitors continue to return year after year!

Here are five reasons to plan a family trip to Smugglers’ Notch.

You’ll Be Right at Home

The key to a great vacation is having everything you could ever want at your fingertips. The resort’s five condominium communities feature spacious accommodations and well-equipped kitchens for easy meals when you’re not dining out. Walk or hop on the Resort shuttle to the main Village amenities. There are daily schedules, packed with activities to choose from like a Pirate sing-a-long, Bingo Blast, scavenger hunts, mountain biking lessons, live music, aqua-volleyball and so much more. There are even special programs just for children (yep, you can drop them off with excellent counselors and COVID-19 health and safety precautions in place).

There’s Water Play for Everyone

8 pools + 4 waterslides + 2 freshwater swimming reservoirs = endless water fun at “Smuggs.” A fan favorite is Bootleggers Basin, a freshwater swimming reservoir, complete with a swimming area, picnic spots, and the Aqua Jump Trampoline (for ages 7+). Rent kayaks and stand-up paddleboards to explore the water and breathtaking Vermont scenery. Swim at the Courtside outdoor (heated!) pool for family fun, and enjoy thrilling rides down the Flume Waterslide. If your kids need a swimming refresher course, the resort offers 30 minute private or semi-private swim lessons. The youngest guests will have a blast on the Turtle Mini-Waterslide, along with the fountains, waterfalls, and lazy river at Little Smugglers’ Lagoon. Kiddos love crossing the floating Lily Pads at Notchville Park, diving under waterfalls at the Cascade Pool, and getting soaked at the Splashville Splash Pad (great for the 6 and under set!).

Outdoor Adventures Await

From babies to big kids, there’s something for everyone in your crew. For those who like action and adventure, there’s no shortage of exhilarating things to do at Smugg’s—all while taking in the area’s exquisite natural beauty. Explore the Lamoille River on canoe, kayak, or paddleboard. There are many guided tours to choose from, including a Maple Tour, an Ice Cream Float (must have Ben & Jerry’s on a river when in VT!), and a grown-up favorite, “Kayaks and Cocktails” that winds down at Smugglers’ Notch Distillery. Thrill seekers will line up to do the zip line canopy tour, packed with high-speed zip lines, tree climbing, and obstacle courses. And if you love to bike, the MTB Center features a flat ground skills park, downhill skills park, and a pump track.

Two Words: Llama Trek

Take the ultimate family excursion by going on a Llama Trek together. Yep, you read that correctly… people of all ages can hike and picnic with sweet, furry companions from the Northern Vermont Llama Company. Kids will be over the moon as they guide their llama along the three-hour experience throughout the nearby woods. The hike is two miles long, but you’ll walk at an easy, leisurely pace… great for llamas and little ones alike!

It’s finally time to get out and travel this summer! In all your excitement to get away, it could be easy to forget one important thing: budget. Here are ten easy, breezy tips to help you save money on your family vacation and make it the best summer ever!

Venturing out in an RV makes it easier to check off multiple attractions on a budget! We’ve teamed up with Go RVing for everything you need to plan a budget-friendly summer vacay. Get our guide here!

Shop Before Your Trip

It can be tempting to leave shopping for essentials for your travel destination, but not always the best ideal if you want to save money. Headed to a beach town? You don't want to be stuck having to buy swimsuits for your family at a pricey surf shop as your only option! Same with drinks, snacks, sunscreen—it's best to plan ahead and get those items at a discount store near you before you hit the road.

Look For Campgrounds with Entertainment

Sure, you could go to a waterpark on your trip, or you could book a campground that has one on-site! Many campgrounds have family-friendly amenities like pools with waterslides, lakes with kayaks and outdoor movie nights—which save you cash and are conveniently located right where you're staying.

Go RVing!

One of the best ways to save money on a vacay? Stay at a place with your own kitchen! Restaurant meals can be upwards of $200/day per family, which can really cut into the fun budget—one of the many reasons why an RV is the way to go! Traveling in an RV saves money, gives you more freedom than other modes of travel and is just plain fun! You have options by traveling in an RV, with the space to refrigerate and cook your own meals (campfire, anyone?!). Not only that, renting a car and hotel stays are expensive—think of your RV as a super-fun two-in-one!

RVs are for everyone, not just campers, and they open up a world of possibilities while traveling that traditional hotel stays and car rentals don't offer. With an RV, you set your own schedule. No airport lines or packing restrictions. You have the safety and comfort of bringing your own sheets, towels and pillows (not to mention, all the stuffies the kids want!). Whether you rent one or go all in and buy your very own vacay house on wheels, you can't go wrong with an RV for travel.

To learn more and find your ideal RV, visit GoRVing.com.

Check Out Harvest Hosts

Looking for a unique outdoor stay? Harvest Hosts is a website that connects RV travelers with wineries, breweries, farms and more unique locals—all with no camping fees! The annual membership is $99, and lets you book as many stays as you'd like.

Visit Harvest Hosts here.

Mix Up Your Meals

Going to restaurants each day adds up quickly, especially with kids in tow. Rather than going to restaurants to entertain the family, plan a few nights of making your own campfire meals! Cooking over a fire will be an exciting new adventure for your kids, and you'll save big by only having to buy ingredients.

Get the GasBuddy App

Want to pay less for gas? Us, too! The GasBuddy app provides prices of gas stations in your area based on your GPS location. Now you can "shop around" to find the cheapest gas near you, on the road or close to home.

Get the GasBuddy app here.

Bring the Fun

One of the biggest perks of traveling in an RV is the extra space! Pack a few board games, a frisbee, and, if you have space, your kids' bikes. When the inevitable "I'm bored" comes up, you'll already have entertainment on hand!

Travel During the Week

Being flexible with your travel dates means big savings. Try to avoid traveling on the weekend and opt for mid-week options instead. Special deals for families, and for destinations in general, are more readily available during the week, and at off-peak hours.

Get Tickets for Events Ahead of Time

Don't wait until you get to the door—tickets are usually more expensive last minute. Buying online and early not only ensures that your whole gang gets in, but that you get the best price. Pro tip: Don't forget to search the web for deals and coupon codes before you hit "send"!

The U.S. Park Pass

Parks and Rec your thing? This is your pass to see it all! The America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass is your ticket to more than 2,000 federal recreation sites across the country. For an $80 annual fee, this pass covers entrance, standard amenity fees and day-use fees per vehicle.

Get the pass here.

More Disney magic is (almost) back! Disney announced today that fireworks spectaculars will be returning to the parks in July, just in time for Independence Day weekend. If you have an upcoming trip planned to the Happiest Place on Earth, you’re in luck!

Walt Disney World will start the performances on July 1 at Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. Post up near the Cinderella Castle for lights, projections and pyrotechnics, or head to the World Showcase Lagoon for fireworks, music and lighting effects.

And at Disneyland, get ready for the show starting July 4 with “Mickey’s Mix Magic.” It will turn Main Street U.S.A., the Sleeping Beauty Castle and the “It’s a Small World” facade into fantastic party featuring projections, show lights and lasers.

Can’t make it to the parks? You can watch a virtual “Happily Ever After” fireworks show from the comfort of your couch. If your bags are packed, just remember to ensure you have a valid reservation for each park you want to visit and that it’s linked to your account. Enjoy the shows once more!

Are those Beanie Babies with the tag protectors just chilling in your parents’ basement? On your next trip home, you might want to pull them out and take a look. Nine different beloved Ty beanies have sold for at least $15,000 (!) today, according to a new study from TheToyZone.

Topping the list is Rainbow the Chameleon Beanie Baby from 1997, which sold for an eye-popping $50,000 on Ebay. Next up, two Valentine’s Day beanies: Valentina (with errors) from 1997 at $29,999 and Valentino from 1994 at $25,003. Pouch the Kangaroo from 1996 comes in at $19,000, the popular rare edition Princess Di Bear from 1997 at $18,950 and the Canadian Maple Bear from 1997 (with spelling errors) at $18,000. Three others come in at $15,000: Curly the Bear, Pattie the Platypus and Peanut the Royal Blue Elephant.

Beanies aren’t the only valuable toys from the ’90s. If you had a Nintendo 64, you probably had the classic, Goldeneye 007. A copy recently sold for $14,499 online! A mint Talkboy based off the film Home Alone 2 was worth $30 in the ’90s, but sells for up to $10,000 today. And if you lucked into an original American Girl doll, they’re worth some cash too. A 1991 Felicity was valued at $7,820.

TheToyZone used Mavin, an online price guide to determine how much money the toys sold for, collecting data in March 2021. Only toys sold individually, as opposed to in sets or multiples, were included and presumably they are all in mint condition. You can read the rest of the lengthy list on their website and start making a mental list of your childhood collection. You might luck into a small fortune!
