Mom’s “Christmas Has Been Rescheduled” Letter Goes Viral for the Best Reason

Christmas always falls on Dec. 25, but that doesn’t mean families always get to celebrate on that actual date. One mom’s viral letter gives parents everywhere a little help from Old St. Nick, when things just don’t work out to spend Christmas together with your kids.

Whether you have to work on Christmas, or in the case of the Davisson family, one parent is on active duty in the military, it can be really difficult to have to explain to your kids that you can’t celebrate the big day together. So instead, Stephanie Davisson of Fort Hood, Texas, decided to simply reschedule Christmas.

Davisson came up with the clever letter to her kids when she found out her husband, Brent Davisson, who is on the military, would be on duty for Christmas. The letter, sent from “The Desk of Santa Claus,” asks her kids to select an alternative date to celebrate Christmas so that the entire family can be together for the special day.

“This year, he was scheduled for Christmas duty, so we decided that rather than risk Christmas morning without dad, we would just reschedule Christmas,” Davisson told . “My oldest is 8, and I want to keep the magic alive for him as long as I possibly can. He’s a very logical kid and I knew an ‘official’ letter from Santa, with boxes to check, would do the trick for him.”

Davisson shared the letter on Facebook where it promptly went viral. Parents across the country reached out to her asking if she could tweak the letter for other uses and she has since made alternatives for medical professionals, pilots and flight crew, divorced families and one for general use. She shared the letters for free in her Facebook post and encouraged followers to share with others.

“I’ve received so many messages from service members, first responders, nurses, oil field workers…the list goes on and on, and I’m so happy to have been able to help these families find joy at Christmas,” Davisson said. “We all seem to get so caught up in the material objects we forget to just enjoy each other and the magic of the season, and not just on the 25th.”
