This Man Wants to Empower Kids with Free “Black Panther” Screenings

Marvel’s new movie Black Panther is the newest in the studio’s line of superhero movies. In the same ways Wonder Woman switched the traditional ‘superhero’ role around and empowered women, plenty of people are thinking that Black Panther will do something similar for African-American children. One person in particular—marketing consultant Frederick Joseph—wants to ensure African-American kids are both inspired and empowered by Black Panther. Oh, and he’s not sitting back and just hoping. Joseph is actually doing something about it.

Joseph is raising money for kiddos in Harlem to see the movie. To date he’s raised more than $35,000 through a GoFundMe campaign. Not only does Joseph want to raise money to help children in NYC see this movie, but he’s also started a national campaign.

Tweeting, “We’ve raised over $35k for kids in Harlem to see “Black Panther”! I challenged you to so the same, and campaigns were made around the country for the #BlackPantherChallenge!” Joseph is showing everyone just how powerful one person’s idea can be. He saw a need, did something about it and is now doing more good than he could have imagined when he initially started the campaign.

On the #BlackPantherChallenge GoFundMe page Joseph writes, “All children deserve to believe they can save the world, go on exciting adventures, or accomplish the impossible. I am grateful that all of you have answered the call and are taking action to help more kids watch their heroes on the big screen.” Along with donating money to the campaign, Joseph also put out a call for teachers, coaches and community leaders to buy tickets and help their children see this powerful movie.
