We’re big fans of anyone who helps kids reach their creative potential and have fun—that’s why Color*Full, a local kid-centric art studio, is so great. Not only is it your Totally Awesome pick for best kids art classes in the Boston area, it also boasts a beautiful space, an ever-changing supply of materials, and fun drop-in times and activities that families love.

Owner Stacey Low recently took the time to chat with us about what makes Color*Full awesome, her advice for aspiring business owners, and more. Read on:

Red Tricycle: Congratulations on being voted “Most Awesome” by your community! What do you think your customers value most about your business?

Stacey Low: I think our customers appreciate being able to bring their kids to a bright, cheery space that’s totally dedicated to being creative and not worrying about the mess. We change the art stations each week, so there’s truly always something new to do when families visit. The atmosphere is relaxed, with comfy chairs for grown-ups and kids’ art hanging everywhere. Kids like that they can explore fun materials and feel like “real” artists. I think parents are first attracted to the idea that the mess stays at the studio, but they come back because the vibe is fun and relaxed and their kids are having a great time!

RT: What inspired you to start your business?

SL: I was inspired to start this business when I couldn’t find anything like it for my own daughter, who’s now 6 years old. I wanted a place where we could get creative together, but also a place where she could feel free to explore her own ideas.

RT: Any advice for new business owners just getting started?

SL: Be true to yourself and your vision. There are so many great ideas out there that you could do, or that people will say that they want. It’s the ideas that you are most passionate about that will bring you the satisfaction of saying, “I did it,” and that satisfaction might be your only reward sometimes! I have also learned to carve time out to develop those ideas. There’s always someone who wants a minute of your time or some task to be done, and you don’t want all of your great ideas to pass you by because you didn’t have time!

RT: Can you give us one tip for balancing entrepreneurship with parenthood?

SL: I wish I could! I am still learning how to balance the demands of owning a new business with the demands of raising young children. It is really difficult at times.

RT: What is your proudest moment as a business owner or parent?

SL: As a business owner, my proudest moment was opening for business on the first day of Year Two. After a year of learning from our mistakes and dreaming about the possibilities, we spent a week totally reorganizing the space to better serve our customers and to be more productive ourselves, and it was so exciting to see our hard-earned ideas come to life!

RT: Is there a special offer you’d like to include for Red Tricycle readers?

SL: Of course! Mention our Red Tricycle offer for a 50% discount off of one of our totally awesome classes, workshops, or drop-in times!
