We’re drowning in stuff. We desperately need to get rid of some stuff. And there should be an easier way to go about it. Marie Kondo (who’s actually come around after having kids) made an empire out of ditching everything that doesn’t “spark joy.” But my vacuum and dish rags do not spark joy. Once in a while, my children don’t spark joy, either. I cannot Kondo any of them out of my house, no matter how much, some days, I might want to.

Any time I’ve embarked on a massive decluttering spree, I’ve regretted the epic scale and whirlwind effort later. Yes, I really chucked all my winter clothes in the middle of summer more than once, because, unlike lab rats, I do not learn from experience. Do not follow my lead—there’s no need to go all in.

Instead, let’s focus on certain categories of items that can be purged without repercussions. You can chuck these without guilt, intense spousal consultation, or lingering regret. Donate and recycle what you can, and trash what you can’t. You can do this; I believe in you.

1. All that art
Picasso probably created 50,000 works of art in his lifetime. Your kid appears to be headed in that direction, too. We know your son or daughter is precious, but do you need to keep every single drawing they have scrawled in their lifetime? Keep the best, maybe one from each month, and throw out the rest. Your kid doesn’t want you to keep them all. My mother-in-law gave us reams of my husband’s childhood scribbles. I wish she had kept it to a few—they would mean more.

2. The bad pictures
You have a million billion photos of your kid. In some of them, they’re making a weird face or scratching their butt or ducking under the table. You don’t need these pictures in your life. Do future you a favor: Narrow it down from 57 ever-so-slightly-different snaps to a handful of winners from every event—big or small—or day. (Psst, the Tinybeans app can help with that.) You’ll feel less overwhelmed, we swear.

3. The presents you feel guilty for hating
Someone gave you a thing. They put thought into the thing. You want to like the thing, but you don’t like the thing, and you feel really bad, you do, and it’s such a sweet thought, but it’s not your thing. Donating the thing is not disavowing the kind thoughts. It is passing on the kind thoughts. Just donate the thing and stop the guilt freight train. It’s just running you over every time you peek under your dresser.

4. That thing your kid loved but has ignored, and it’s now developmentally inappropriate, and they won’t notice if you chuck it
I don’t care how much they loved it. They don’t need it, and they don’t want it, and it’s taking up space in your house. Caveat: You can keep it if it’s a stuffie. You are allowed to keep a stuffie or six.

5. That iPhone box
The impulse to keep iPhone boxes remains a great American mystery.

6. Birthday cards
One day, you imagine, your child will want every birthday card they ever received. Pause. Think about your end game. Do you want to hoard every birthday card you’ve ever received? You wouldn’t look at them. You’d vaguely resent them. Don’t be that mother who saves all of her kid’s, then calls them in 20 years and attempts to pass the torch. Throw them out now and save the argument later.

7. Those clothes your kids refuse to wear
My oldest wouldn’t wear jeans. He had a drawerful. Instead, he favored ratty athletic pants or shorts. Why keep a literal drawer full of clothes (jeans take up a lot of space) when I could fill them with clothes he’d actually use? The same goes for your toddler who insists on wearing a dress every day and hasn’t touched her sweatsuits in ages. Let. Them. Go. Eventually, I purged all my kids’ closets—or rather, I let them do it because they’re old enough that I can’t force them to wear what I pick any longer (cue dramatic, tearful sniff). We traded with friends for clothes the kids liked. Then I bought my oldest cargo pants.

8. The fair/amusement park tickets of yore
Once, you visited a magical land of child slot machines. Yes, you said as you dragged your spawn from the blinking hellscape, wishing there was a matching version of Gamblers Anonymous. We will return one day to use the approximately three dollars and 25 cents worth of tickets that you can trade for a loud, plastic toy. Do not think about how much money you dropped to earn those tickets: They’re banking on that. The game was always rigged, and your kid had fun at the arcade. Ditch ‘em.

9. The mud-caked shoes
Sometimes, no matter how much you spray a pair of white sneakers, you can’t get the mud out of the cracks. Sometimes, you’re too icked out to scrub it with a toothbrush. This is not about the mud. This is about the sneakers: They’re ancient and they smell bad, and you can use the mud as a convenient excuse to toss them. Your children will not argue because mud is disgusting, and they think those shoes are hopelessly contaminated, anyway.

10. The old magazines
You will never look at that issue of Southern Living again. Admit it. You’re not going to cook the squash casserole, okay? Your kid would cheerfully choose cannibalism over zucchini. Pulp the magazines and back away slowly.

11. Tupperware without lids
Where do the lids go? That’s a trick question—you will never ever find out. Accept what you cannot change—the lids are gone—and even if they do appear at the bottom of a cabinet, they’ll be dusty and gross and you won’t want to use them anyway.

12. Sippy cups and bottles
To confront them is to confront mortality. Be brave. Remember—sippy cups come with grubby paws and sticky faces and diapers. Lots of diapers. Remember those diapers and the screaming nights and the times you never slept? Maybe you don’t: You didn’t sleep. You do not want to return there. Ditch the cups and bottles as soon as you’re able. You are not going back. And if you’re still in that season of life where you’re drowning in dozens of parts, keep the faith! Your day will come soon enough.

13. The idea of achieving a perfectly clean space
Throw this one away while you’re at it, too. It’s not going to happen. You have children and a life, and work’s never done. Get rid of the idea that you’re getting rid of everything. Nothing’s ever perfect. Your to-do list never ends, and you’ll drive yourself batty if you think it will. Sing the Frozen “Let it Go” song. You’re doing the best you can, and honestly, that’s plenty!

The Phoenician – Scottsdale, Arizona
The Phoenician is the perfect family escape in the Southwest. With multiple pools and a huge, twisty waterslide, it’s a great way to get in quality time in the lap of luxury. Four Seasons Hualali – Hawaii
Hawaii’s Four Seasons Hualali resort has so much to offer that you may never set foot off the expansive grounds. Go snorkeling with a marine biologist, swim in a 1.8-million-gallon aquarium, or watch sea turtles on the beach. If you must see more of Hawaii, the resort can arrange a variety of experiences from tours of nearby farms to a helicopter ride with majestic views of the island’s volcanoes.

Cartoon Network Hotel– Lancaster, PA
Fulfill your child’s greatest dream and become immersed in the Cartoon Network universe. This resort has everything from Ben-10 and Adventure Time-themed rooms to Powder-Puff Girls water slides. The Great Wolf Lodge – Various Locations
Great Wolf Lodge resorts were designed with kids in mind. From an enormous waterpark to bowling alleys, laser tag, climbing walls, MagiQuest, and nightly dance parties, there is non-stop action all day long. Wander around the lodge, and you’ll run into a Great Wolf Lodge character meet-and-greet, storytime, yoga, or craft. In the summer, head outside to enjoy a large outdoor pool.

Canopy – Washington, D.C
Just because you are visiting the big city doesn’t mean you can’t have fun glamping in your room. Book the Urban Camping package at Canopy just outside the nation’s capital for a bug-free glamping experience. Kids will catch some shut-eye in sleeping bags in their very own tents. Set up the star machine and make your treats with an electric s’mores maker.

Kimpton – Multiple Locations
Kimptons are stunning, quirky hotels that go the extra mile to welcome families. Each location has its twist. For example, you will find a fun Little Explorers package at the Kimpton Palomar in Philadelphia, complete with “kid currency” that can be used to buy warm chocolate chip cookies and milk, an instant-print camera to capture a kids’-eye view of the city, a scavenger hunt and coloring book. They even throw in a bottle of wine for the parents.

Beaches – Turks & Caicos
Beaches Turks & Caicos truly has something for everyone. Kids who are part fish will love the watersports, including snorkeling, windsurfing, and kayaking. Another kid favorite is Pirates Island, the resort’s expansive waterpark, that features gigantic waterslides, a long lazy river, kid-friendly pools, and swim-up soda bars.

Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa – Ko Olina, Hawai‘i
A favorite water activity at Disney’s Aulani is to swim the man-made reef filled with fish built solely for snorkeling. Kids under 11 must be accompanied by an adult but feel free to swim for however long you want to snorkel. We also love the Painted Sky Studio, where your kids will be transformed into luau magic. If they want to channel a more Disney-like character, they have Ariel from The Little Mermaid, Moana, and the more traditional Minnie Mouse buns.

Grand Palladium White Sand Resort & Spa | Riviera Maya

Grand Palladium is, through and through, the classic type of all-inclusive resort for families you imagine visiting in Mexico. But while other brands may have gotten too big or crowded, with the quality of food and service inevitably decreasing, these guys do it right. White Sand is one of four resorts on their Riviera Maya compound (sister resorts “Colonial” and “Kantenah” are also family-friendly, whereas the fourth, TRS Yucatan Hotel, is adults-only), which allows guests the unique opportunity of having both an intimate resort feel while being able to access the amenities (restaurants, pools, and more) of the neighboring resorts. If your kids (or spouse!) tend to get bored in one place quickly, this is the perfect answer.

Kids will love the interesting animals they encounter, whether real (there is a large flock of flamingos that live on the property, as well as plenty of cute coatis, iguanas, and more) or “Raggs” (the resort mascots, colorful dog characters that entertain children throughout the resort by singing, dancing, reading stories, and posing for photos)

The setting in nature makes it hard to believe you’re only 40 minutes south of Cancún. It feels remote, exclusive, and quiet in the ways you want it to be quiet when you’re on vacation.

Golf carts are the main mode of transportation around Fairmont Mayakoba, which made for lots of fun, and also made you appreciate the grandness of the property. It truly feels like neverending miles of jungle tucked away alongside the Caribbean Ocean. It’s a 3-5 minute ride from the main rooms of the hotel to the beach, which makes even the journey to the beach an adventure.

Nickelodeon Resorts Punta Cana | Dominican Republic

Punta Cana is a popular tourist destination in the Dominican Republic known for its stunning white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and tropical climate. The beaches in Punta Cana are among the most beautiful in the world, with miles of soft, powdery sand and turquoise waters. When it comes to places to stay when traveling with young children, you will 100% want to stay at a resort known for children’s programs and we definitely recommend Nickelodeon Resorts, Punta Cana.

This beachfront property tops our list of best all-inclusive resorts for families as it has direct access to the beach and some of the rooms are literally steps from the beach. The beach is great for walking or frolicking in the waves and is not too far from the pool, the beach bars, and restaurants. The rooms are on the side of the resort closest to the beach, and the waterpark is on the other side. It’s easy to get around the resort with shuttles and golf carts driven by staff and running continuously all day. If you are not experiencing mobility challenges, it’s about a 5-minute walk from the rooms to the waterpark once you’ve familiarized yourself with the layout of the property.

Margaritaville Beach Resort | Playa Flamingo, Costa Rica

A short drive from Playa Conchal, you’ll find Playa Flamingo, a golden sand beach with stunning sunsets. Whether you are going for a wedding or a family trip, Margarita Beach Resort goes all out. With daily beach and resort activities and many excursions for you to explore, you won’t have trouble staying busy (if that’s your jam). Their family suites have the family in mind, offering kids their own bunk bed and space, even in a shared room. The beach is excellent for long walks. Since Flaming Beach is along Brasilito Bay, the waters tend to be calmer than many other beaches in Costa Rica.

Catering to the preschool set, this new theme park will bring these beloved characters to life

Earlier this year it was announced that a second Peppa Pig Theme Park is scheduled to open in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in 2024. Designed especially for preschoolers, this standalone theme park will feature multiple rides, interactive attractions, themed playscapes, and shows, all based on recognizable locations and characters from the globally popular brand. “Every corner of the charming new park is crafted with preschoolers in mind,” the park shared via press release.  “Through every experience, families will snort, giggle, and create their first theme park memories together with Peppa and her friends.”

The park recently shared all the new rides and attractions we can expect to see when the Texas park is opened next year.

Families will ride, soar, and set sail together on five new rides:

  • Daddy Pig’s Roller Coaster – Take a ride with Daddy Pig in his iconic red car and go on an unexpected adventure when Mr. Bull’s “digging up the road” sends you on a curvy exploration of Daddy Pig’s new shortcut. This family-friendly thrill ride is the perfect first roller coaster for brave little visitors.
  • Peppa Pig’s Balloon Ride – Hold on tight as you soar into the sky and enjoy amazing views of PEPPA PIG Theme Park on this family-friendly aerial carousel ride.
  • Grandad Dog’s Pirate Boat Ride – Anchors away! Sail with Grandad Dog on this family boat ride to find his hidden treasure.
  • Grampy Rabbit’s Dinosaur Adventure – Take a ride on a friendly dinosaur and discover prehistoric surprises around every corner of Grampy Rabbit’s Dinosaur Park. Parents can ride along with their little explorers on this epic dino quest.
  • Mr. Bull’s High Striker – Once the hammer hits the bell on Mr. Bull’s High Striker, your family will bounce up to the sky. Hold on tight and be prepared for a surprise because, after all, what goes up, must come down!

Splash, climb, and crawl! The fun keeps coming with water play, games, and just-my-size playscapes.

  • Muddy Puddles Splash Pad – Have an oinktastic time with Peppa and George doing their favorite thing: jumping up and down in “muddy puddles.” This lively play area has spouting fountains, slides, and other watery surprises to keep the play experiences super fun, splashy, and cool on hot days.
  • Peppa’s Pedal Bike Tour and George’s Tricycle Trail – Little ones will pedal their way through a camping adventure in the woods, through the icy mountains to see the sights and sounds of the great outdoors. Smaller cyclists can enjoy George’s shorter pedal path adventure on tricycles built just for them.
  • Fun Fair – Meet Peppa and her friends for a fairground adventure full of free games and rides, including Miss Rabbit’s hot air balloon and Mr. Bull’s High Striker ride that take you up into the sky for a bird’s eye view of the theme park.
  • George’s Fort – Make your way through a maze in Granny Pig’s Garden and discover George’s Fort, just waiting to be explored.
  • Grandpa Pig’s Greenhouse – Discover what Grandpa Pig is growing – could it be something red and squishy? Or green and round? Slide around his greenhouse and find out.
  • Peppa Pig’s Treehouse – Climb into Peppa’s not-so-high treehouse, then slide down to the bottom for even more free play fun.
  • Rebecca Rabbit’s Playground – Get active and find all the ways to play around the rabbit burrows, as you jump, crawl or hop over to explore Rebecca Rabbit’s Playground.
  • Madame Gazelle’s Nature Trail – Discover what has left mysterious footprints on the ground as you explore the nature trail with Madame Gazelle.
  • Mr. Potato’s Showtime Arena – Join Peppa and her friends under the canopy at Mr. Potato’s stage with live shows packed full of songs, games, snorts, and giggles throughout the day.
  • The Cinema – Take a break from the sunny fun by watching some of your favorite episodes of PEPPA PIG on the big screen in our indoor cinema.

Families can expect to meet with Peppa and her giggly pals for an enjoyable theme park visit. The first Peppa Pig Theme Park opened in the U.S. in 2022 and is located in Winter Haven, FL, adjacent to LEGOLAND Florida. Visitors to Peppa Pig Theme Park in Florida know that this park really caters to little ones and their families. Designed to be a child’s first visit to a theme park, the Florida park offers the majority of its rides with no minimum height restrictions. It is also a Certified Autism Center with a sensory guide, trained staff, and special signage so that all visitors can fully experience the park.

Visit the Peppa Pig Theme Park website for more details and to sign up for email updates!

Los Angeles has always been a town of lights, but during the holiday season, the displays get even brighter. From Marina del Rey to the OC and as far east as Indio, here are the most dazzling holiday light displays around LA that are worth your time and money

There’s something about twinkling lights that gets us in the holiday spirit—that is, after we’ve picked up the best Christmas tree and made an initial pass through LA’s best toy stores for gifts. And while Los Angeles may not have the winter weather charm of those cities that actually see a white Christmas, our palm trees sure can prop up Christmas lights just as magically as their evergreen cousins can. From the sprawling sea of bulbs at Descanso Gardens to festive local neighborhoods layered in all things merry and bright, LA’s got its share of impressive holiday light displays.

This article is sponsored by Kidspace Children’s Museum, a children’s museum located in Pasadena, CA with over 40 unique hands-on exhibits that engage for kids 10 and under emotionally, intellectually, and physically. Now through January 7, Kidspace is transforming into a winter wonderland with the return of “Kidspace Winter Frolic,” where little ones can enjoy imaginative, cold-weather activities—without the snow!

The Best Holiday Lights near LA That are Totally Worth the Drive

Astra Lumina  at the South Bay Botanic Garden

What if you could walk amongst the stars? That's the question asked by Moment Factory, the visionary multimedia company (they do visuals for Billie Eilish!) behind Astra Lumina, a luminous night walk that uses projections, lasers, and sounds to immerse visitors in a celestial world where the stars "descend to Earth." You'll walk through dark forests bathed in twinkling lights, see stars seemingly rise and fall from the sky, and set out on a trail that features 10 distinct areas to explore, with names like "Starlit Lanterns," "Falling Stars," and "Starburst Rays." At each stop, guests are invited to mingle with the lights as they are blanketed in the projected stars.

This is the 17th of Moment Factory's Night Walk series—and the fourth American incarnation. If this walk is anything like the ones before it (Travel and Leisure called Night Walk "unlike any hike you’ve ever been on"), it's sure to wow you and all your little stargazers.

Homeowners pull out all the stops for this annual neighborhood Lights Extravaganza (which also calls itself Candy Cane Lane), where you'll see everything from soaring lights across rooftops to simple nativity scenes set on yards. Every house has its own unique theme, and you'll want to see them all. Consequently, it will take at least an hour to walk the network of neighborhoods that encompasses the event (the sidewalks are safe, and strollers are welcome). You can drive through the area, but make sure your kids use the restrooms before you get there, because traffic is usually at a slow crawl throughout (you'll appreciate this when you want to take in the view—not so much when you have a toddler who has to go potty).

Hungry? Stop at one of the many front yard bake sales, where you and your kids can nosh on cookies and cocoa (bring at least 10 bucks for a family of four, as most items are $1-2 each).

Insider Tip: Start at Roberts Rd. in Torrance (entrance at Pacific Coast Hwy.) and walk or drive around adjacent streets (including Doris Way, Carol Dr., Linda Dr., Reeese Rd. and Sharynne Ln.). Holidays at Disneyland

It's hard to talk about holiday lights in Los Angeles without mentioning Disneyland. Sure, the Happiest Place on Earth is already sky-high in "wow factor," but the resort ups its merriment ante big-time over the holidays. From a wintery light projection that makes Sleeping Beauty's castle look like it's dripping in high-def icicles to the "It's a Small World" facade transformed into a wall of colorful twinkling lights (and its insides adorned to reflect the season), Disneyland shines in a whole new way this time of year! Everywhere you turn, you'll experience holiday joy, with decor and lights strewn all over the park and the"Believe in Holiday Magic" fireworks display ending the night with stirring music, snow showers, and a spectacular light show.

The lights also dazzle at California Adventure, where the streets are similarly adorned. And it's not just for Christmas: Across the park, you'll find tributes, cuisine, and activities related to the season's other holidays, including Navidad, Hanukkah, Diwali, Kwanzaa, and Three Kings' Day. Several rides are totally done up for the season (including a transformed Cars Land featuring Luigi's "Joy to the Whirl" and a decked-out Mater's Jingle Jamboree. Keeping your family organized can feel like a full-time job, but no one said you have to do it alone

Whether you’ve got toddlers or teenagers, family life is hectic—even the dog seems to have a schedule. Parents have to be impeccably organized to stay on top of the housework, groceries and meal planning, finances, and work obligations, not to mention the fact that if you’ve got school-aged kids, you’re a glorified chauffeur juggling school functions, extracurriculars, and sports. It’s a lot. And despite the cries that our kids’ extracurriculars are taking over our lives, we keep loading more and more onto our plates. But you don’t have to do it alone. There’s a slew of family organization apps that take the guesswork out of family life, from joint calendars to budget tracking and even remembering to share family photos with eager relatives. Here are 11 of our favorites, so you can hopefully sneak a bit of free time onto the calendar.

Cozi

Are you drowning in a sea of birthday parties and swim lessons and work events and “what’s for dinner”s? Then listen up. Easy to use and well-designed, Cozi serves triple duty as a shared family calendar, digital recipe box, and list keeper. No matter how many children you have or how old they are, seeing everyone’s schedules in one place (color-coded, no less) is a game-changer. Parents can also create shared grocery or to-do lists and meal plans so the burden doesn’t fall on just one person (we all know who that would be).

Cost: Free or paid (Cozi Gold: $29.99 per year) on Apple App Store and Google Play.

Tinybeans

It’s us! Parents looking to bring some order to their unhinged smartphone collection of family photos can securely store the best of the best in Tinybeans (no more sets of 36 slightly different versions of the same baby photo hogging space). What’s more, you can instantly share them with relatives and friends. So if responding to your mother-in-law’s constant (and well-meaning) requests for baby updates is becoming a time-suck, the app sends them emails or notifications whenever you post a new milestone, photo, or video—and sends you regular reminders to post. Along with your best memories, you can track all of your kids’ most exciting milestones and achievements through the years. And every so often, when you’ve got a good collection of photos, throw them into a cute album and order your physical copy straight through the app.

Cost: Free or paid (Tinybeans+: $74.99 per year or $7.99 per month) on Apple App Store and Google Play.

Plan to Eat

Anyone who’s been forced to listen to a symphony of “I’m huuuuungry”s while staring into the refrigerator at 5 p.m. in a complete, dinner-less panic will have a deep appreciation for the Plan to Eat. The personalized app takes all the guesswork out of meal planning. Plan to Eat lets you choose recipes from anywhere on the web, import them to your recipe box, and automatically create a shopping list with items sorted by store and aisle. The only thing it can’t do is chop the onions for you (will I ever not cry!?).

Cost: Free or paid ($5.95 per month or $49 per year) on Apple App Store and Google Play.

Bills Organizer & Reminder

Paying late fees on bills you forgot about is such a bitter pill to swallow, especially when you could have used that money for a latte to get you through yet another toddler gymnastics session. If you’re looking to track and manage all of your family’s bills in one place, check out the Bills Organizer and Reminder app (your credit score will thank you). You can quickly look over all upcoming bills in the app’s dashboard view, and rest assured that you’ll receive payment reminders before each bill is due (whether the app is open or closed). To make life even easier, set up automatic payments for recurring bills so you don’t even have to think about them. The free version lets you manage up to five accounts.

Cost: Free or paid ($2.99 for unlimited accounts and $1.99 for no ads) on Apple App Store.

2houses

If you’re co-parenting or part of a blended family, not only does the 2houses app keep everyone’s schedules organized, but it does it for two households. Everyone can view and edit a shared calendar, and it helps with one of the hardest aspects of separation and divorce: finances. The app manages all expenses paid by each parent to give a clear view of what’s being spent on the kids and who’s spending it. The “Custody Journal” is a sweet touch, letting each parent share photos, information, videos, and news with the other parents. So when it’s not your day with the kids, you can still feel like part of the family.

Free 14-day trial then paid ($169.99 per year or $14.17 per month) on Apple App Store and Google Play.

Mint

Budgeting is arguably one of the most important aspects of family planning, but it really does eat up a lot of time. Mint not only takes the guesswork out of budgeting for you, but it sorts all of your purchases into categories so you can keep track of where you’re spending (and potentially find some smart ways to save). For the fullest snapshot, you can link all of your accounts in one place—your checking account, savings account, credit cards, investments, and property. The app alerts you if you’re getting close to going over budget or into overdraft, and garners insights from your spending habits to offer tips on where to save money—all of which set you up to achieve your stated financial goals.

Free on Apple App Store and Google Play.

TimeTree

Syncing calendars is super useful for busy families, but TimeTree has the bonus of a chat room where you can share photos and discuss upcoming events and calendar changes. To keep your whole group in the loop, everyone receives a notification when someone changes or reschedules something on the cal and when a new event is added. There’s also the option to have additional calendars, like one with your mom group or extended family.

Free or paid (Premium is $4.49 per month or $44.99 per year) on Apple App Store and Google Play.

Flayk

Being a “flake” isn’t typically a good thing, but Flayk, the family organization app, is a great thing. Not only does it have a shared calendar for everyone in your family, as well as the option for everyone to receive event reminders, but the premium version of Flayk also has a points system for completed tasks. You can incentivize your brood to do chores around the house or finish their homework with customized rewards, like a movie night, a trip to the amusement park, or a family vacation. Plus, if you “Flayk” on a task, you can assign it to someone else. And if you want to lean into the “it takes a village” philosophy, you can link your Flayk to other families or groups who use the app to make sure absolutely nothing gets missed.

Free or paid (Premium for $1.99 per month) on Apple App Store and Google Play.

IFTTT

Creating lists and reminders to get things done can take as much time as actually doing the damn things, so why not automate some of those basic tasks. That’s the beauty of IFTTT (an acronym for “If This, Then That”). It works with more than 600 apps, including Telegram, Twitch, Weather Underground, Google Drive, Gmail, and Spotify, and integrates with devices like Amazon Alexa, Nest, Google Home, and Philips Hue. The app’s a fave for businesses, but families can also benefit from a little automation—like getting the weather forecast every morning, changing your thermostat when you go out of town, warning you if temps drop and you need to move your plants inside, or starting a specific playlist when you get in the car so your kids don’t freak out.

Cost: Free or paid (Pro: $2.50 per month, Pro+: $5 per month) on Apple App Store and Google Play.
