Your guests will love these baby shower game ideas

When you’re planning the activities for a baby shower, you’re looking for games that are easy to learn, fun to play and not likely to make guests cringe. These games are all that and more.

ABC Baby Book

cuppacocoa

The prize for this game goes to the mom-to-be, who gets a homemade alphabet book crafted by her favorite people. Let guests choose what image to draw for each letter or, if you think they'll need inspiration, choose a theme for the book (it can even match the shower theme). Stop by the cuppacocoa blog for a free template and full instructions.

Baby Guess Who?

iStock

Maximum fun with minimal prep work: Guests email you baby photos of themselves prior to the shower, and you print them up, number each one, and create a display on a wall or table. Print out numbered sheets where guests can try to match each guest to the pictures.

Year One Bucket List

Keababies

There are so many memorable things parents can do with their baby in the first year, but with baby brain, it can be hard to remember to do them. Have guests write down one first-year bucket-list item (from blowing. bubbles to visiting the zoo) on a note card and drop it into a basket for the mom-to-be to take home. Bonus points for using a diaper caddy as the basket, like the one above from Keababies, since the mom will find this invaluable for diaper changes.

Clothing Decorating Station

Lovely Indeed

Fill up baby’s wardrobe with customized outfits using blogger Lovely Indeed’s decorating station idea. Provide solid-colored baby clothes in a variety of styles and sizes, fabric markers, iron-on designs, and an iron. Your friends will have fun designing these tiny outfits, and Mom will get one-of-a-kind baby gear made with love.

Wishes for Baby

Art Bar

Ask every guest to share a wish for the new baby in this sweet idea from the Art Bar blog. Use pastel card stock and the blog’s free animal templates, or use scrapbook paper and your own shapes for the cards. Hang ribbon and small clothespins on your wall so guests can post their wishes for everyone to read.

Candy in a Baby Bottle

Sharon McCutcheon via Pexels

For a super easy game, fill baby bottles with a set amount of small candies, like sprinkles. Place a bottle at each table with a note that asks guests to guess the number of candies. This game doubles as an icebreaker as tablemates try to figure out the exact number. At each table, the person with the closest guess can win the candy.

Play-Doh Creations

Joao Cachapa via Pixabay

Give each guest a container of Play-Doh and 15 minutes to sculpt a baby-related masterpiece (like a baby, pacifier or bottle). Let the mother-to-be pick her favorite to win a prize.

Hand-Crafted Baby Blocks

Fireflies and Mudpies

Ask shower guests to show off their artistic sides by decorating baby blocks. Provide blank wooden blocks, markers, stickers and more (Fireflies and Mudpies has instructions for making these textured blocks) and let your guests get creative. After the party, paint the blocks with a natural wood varnish for a special gift for baby.

Children's Book Quiz

iStock

For a book-loving mom-to-be, set up a quiz with trivia from classic children’s books. Or, create a fill-in-the-blank quiz with titles of children’s books. This is a good way to get guests chatting, as they remember their own childhood favorites.

Match the Socks

Cheski Sock Company

All you need to play this game are a bunch of new baby socks in different colors, patterns, and sizes and a cute laundry basket. We love the sock bundles from Cheski Sock Company, shown above. Throw the unpaired socks into the basket, set a timer, and have each guest match as many as they can in one minute. Mom-to-be gets a laundry basket and a great sock collection for baby, and your friends get a workout and some laughs.

Baby Shower DIY Craft Projects Guests Will Love

We’re breaking down the pregnancy and baby trends that will make waves in 2022. As we enter the second year of the ’20s, a focus on mental, emotional and physical well-being is a dominant force across all industries, especially when it comes to expectant mothers and their babies. From calming childcare facilities and nurseries that spark creativity to low-intensity exercises that are ideal for moms-to-be, read on for the top trends you’ll see popping up in the bump and baby world this year.

Nursery Trends: Bring On the Prints & Patterns

Last year Japandi designs (a mix of Scandinavian and Japanese style) emerged in a big way, and the trend trackers at Etsy saw it coming. This year those same trend experts are using their search data to predict the next of-the-moment design choices. So, what trends will parents see everywhere as they search for nursery design inspiration? Let's start with going green! Bringing nature indoors started catching on in 2021, and it's continuing to gain steam this year. From Etsy's choice of emerald as the major hue for 2022 to Sherwin-Williams, Behr and Benjamin Moore all choosing various shades of green (specifically, Everygreen Fog, Breezeway and October Mist) as their color of the year, don't be surprised if the green paint chips at your local hardware store are out of stock.

By definition, trends don't stick around for long. But they do resurface and, inevitably, the old becomes new again. Vibrant, intricate floral and ancient Indian block prints are suddenly sprouting up everywhere. We love that you can easily incorporate this theme into your nursery with textiles and accessories. Another hard-to-miss trend for 2022 is curved furniture. A reason to add this gorgeous Stokke crib to your cart, perhaps? Lastly, designing a space that sparks creativity is more important than ever. So searches on Etsy for fairy items and mythical creatures are up as parents look to turn their kiddos' spaces into magical realms where they can emphasize make-believe and inspire imagination in their little ones.

Calming Classrooms

iStock

Making the transition back to classrooms and childcare facilities as relaxing and positive as possible for little ones is a theme we'll see grow in 2022. As kids reconnect with their community outside of their homes, a focus on calming spaces is at the forefront for educators. Pinterest reported that trending search terms include classrooms with nature, forest and sunshine themes, as well as eucalyptus decor. Think mini mediation lessons and nature walks during recess to round out this, hopefully long-lasting, trend.

The Name Game

Gladfolk via Etsy

Baby-naming trends have enduring effects (as every Jennifer born in the 80s, with three other Jennifers in their classroom, can attest!), and that's why it's so fun to highlight them every year.

So, what do names like Bear, Baby, Ziggy, Buddy, Gigi and Honey have in common? They're playful and fun—and will be highly popular in the year ahead. In addition to wanting more carefree and playful names, new parents are giving a nod to the National Parks they've visited recently by choosing names like Sequoia, Reef, Zephyr or Horizon. Our love of adventure and wanderlust for travel has also skyrocketed lately, causing names like Banyan, Capri, Bali and Dune to move up the popularity list. Get in on the trend with these  50 names inspired by travel and geography. There's something special about choosing a retro name that's equal parts cool and old-fashioned, and 2022 babies will benefit as a trend towards vintage names like Etta, Frank, Polly, Mae and Sally make a comeback.

Parties for Life’s Undercelebrated Moments

iStock

In bump and baby land, we're used to seeing parties thrown for big moments like baby showers and first birthdays. However, a welcome trend for 2022 is a shift to celebrating both the obvious milestones and honoring the magical mundane parts of life (parenthood has quite a few of those!). So get ready to throw an "altbash" for life's undercelebrated moments like "just paid off student loans" or "made it through baby's first meltdown" or one of these everyday victories. A reason to celebrate is right around the corner in the new year!

Physical/Mental Health Takes Priority

As we enter the third year of an international health crisis, it's no surprise that two out of three consumers are more conscious than ever of looking after their physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. For expectant moms who are self-caring for two, the trend toward "flexercise" is a perfect option. Searches for daily stretches and walking in nature are up significantly on Pinterest as low-impact exercise and more mellow ways to move your body become important to everyone. From dancing in your bedroom while the baby sleeps to a morning stroller walk out in nature, a shift toward opting for your own low-key exercise routine is mom-approved.

Babymoons were always popular for new moms and will reach new heights in 2022. Travel will become a form of stress management, and there's no better time to do it than before your little one arrives. All-inclusive travel is also making a huge comeback as more and more people want to escape and not think of anything on their to-do list.

Wellness extends to spirituality too, it seems. The question "how to protect your energy" saw searches up by 60%, while searches for "how to raise your vibration" jumped by 145%.

Goth Baby Clothes

Oh my goth! Yes, according to the data gurus at Pinterest, goth is making its way to the mainstream across all ages, including the 0- to 12-month set. Searches for goth baby clothes are up 120%—which means you may be seeing a few more skull and crossbones onesies in the coming year. There are a few adorable and subtle pieces, like this one, that might inspire you to dab your toe into the trend.

If you’re not sure what features you need in a baby bag, read our smart mom’s guide to diaper bags.

Parenting Pack R1 by Beau Industries

Beau Industries

This is a sturdy backpack you'll be using for years, but what makes it indespensable as a diaper bag is the included fold-up changing pad (it doubles as a laptop sleeve, fitting a 15-inch MacBook Pro) and two insulated water-resistant pouches for bottles, snacks and more. Our favorite features: the articulated back panel that gives you comfort and stability even when the pack is full of baby gear, the handy exterior wipes pocket, and the padded nine-pocket organizer. With clean lines and a neutral black with red accents, this will be everybody's favorite bag to carry.

Available at beau.industries, $129.

Aquila Tote Bag from White Elm Bags

White Elm

This oversize canvas tote has plenty of pockets for all your gear, along with a water-resistant lining in case of spills. It comes in solids, stripes and this awesome buffalo check pattern, all with vegan leather straps and a fun pop of color on the lining. SportsChic

We love the metallics and crisp white vegan pebble-grain leather of these roomy backpacks. They're easy to clean and feature insulated pockets that keep drinks hot or cold, as well as an easy-access front pocket for your essentials. The inside is lined with (hot pink!) waterproof nylon and has three handy pockets. There's a padded compartment for your laptop or tablet, and when you're no longer using the bag for toting baby stuff, it works great for stashing tennis racquets. The backpack also comes in two smaller versions: midi ($119) and mini ($89).

Available at sportshic.com, $149.

The O.G. 2 by Lo & Sons

Lo & Sons

Billed as a travel and laptop bag, this bestseller from Lo & Sons keeps your belongings and baby's gear super organized. The zippered pocket billed as a shoe compartment is the perfect spot for dirty clothes, burp cloths or anything else you'd like to keep separate. The interior water bottle pocket could hold baby's bottle instead, and the external laptop compartment could easily fit a changing pad. Store toys, snacks and a change of baby clothes in the main compartment, and attach the slip-resistant pad to the shoulder strap for extra padding and comfort while you're out and about. This lightweight, water-resistant nylon bag will look great for years as you use it as a diaper bag, carry-on bag, gym bag, overnight bag and more.

A Smart Mom’s Guide to Diaper Bags

Stylish New Diaper Bags for Every Kind of Parent

Eco-Friendly & Fashionable Diapers

If you’ve birthed a baby past age 35, you’ve undoubtedly heard the super-flattering phrase “advanced maternal age.” (Don’t even get us started on the “geriatric pregnancy” label.) While these terms may not give you the warm fuzzies, we’re here to share the good stuff about taking on parenthood later on. Sure, it may come with a few extra fine lines here and there, but it has compelling benefits too. Read on to find out why being an older mom is the bomb.

iStock

1. You make the most of the moments.
If you have more than a few years of adulthood under your belt, you’ve undoubtedly experienced the feeling of time passing more quickly. While the moments speeding by in a blur can be vexing, it also creates an acute appreciation of the preciousness of each moment. As an older mom, you tend to slow down and take it all in—to breathe in the baby smell, long and deep, to soak in those sweet smiles and linger over the crib long after baby’s fast asleep.

2. You take a relaxed approach.
The awareness of time has another effect as an older mom: recognizing that milestones don’t need to be met in a rush. As an older mom, you will likely be more comfortable easing up on expectations. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and weaning a baby off of a bottle or potty training doesn’t have to happen overnight either.

3. Confidence comes more naturally.
While having a baby in your later years may mean you do it with a few gray hairs, it also comes with an extra dose of mom-fidence. You’ve released that inevitable, youthful striving after an ever-elusive image of perfection and learned to be comfortable in your own skin. You pass on the hot-button topics (breast or bottle? Co-sleeping or not?) and settle into a routine that works for you and your baby—no explanation or apology needed.

Christy Blevins

4. You have to buy less baby stuff.
If you jump on the baby train a few years after your friends and family, you may just experience a flood of hand-me-down baby clothes and gear. Many parents pack away totes of tiny jammies and stash bigger items, like a crib, stroller and highchair, away in the attic in case of a “surprise” baby scenario, but after a few years, they may be ready and willing to hand over the goods and regain their storage space. Brand new baby and a bigger wallet, what’s not to love?

5. You can skip the maternity section.
That nugget about friends and family members setting aside tiny jammies just in case? Same goes for stretchy-topped jeans and nursing tops. Besides the obvious savings, shopping for maternity clothes in a friend’s closet is way more fun than hitting up your local store anyway.

6. You don’t sweat the small stuff.
A blow-out as you’re walking out the door may set you back a few minutes, but it won’t throw your whole day out of whack. With age comes a honed ability to put things in their proper perspective. As an older mom, you may find you’re able to keep your cool when facing the everyday frustrations of life with a baby (think: nap strikes and messy meals). As you take things in stride, you and your mini-me will benefit from this more chilled-out parenting approach.

iStock

7. You’ve been around the block, and now you can show baby the way.
Being an older mom often means you’ve had the time and opportunity to explore different paths—from career choices to hobbies—and have developed your personal interests and strengths. Those added experiences will inevitably inform your motherhood and allow you to pass on that wisdom to your child's benefit. Say hello to baby Einstein!

8. You’ve been there, done that.
Having experienced a few years of adult life before baby’s arrival may help you freely focus on your baby without regret. Once you’ve checked the box next to some life goals—from career mile markers to travel aspirations—you’ll be better able to settle into the routine elements of motherhood without the FOMO that may have struck in your youth. In the same vein, if you’ve spent more than a few years with your partner during that time, your relationship will have had time to deepen and mature before baby makes three. A win-win!

9. Fewer stresses from finances.
While this doesn’t apply across the board, studies show that women who enter motherhood later on often benefit from more financial stability than their younger counterparts. This is often the result of older moms having had the chance to spend additional years developing their careers and building up a comfortable savings. This extra cushion can allow you to take more time off from work, hire help or even embrace experiences, like international travel, that may have been out of reach in your younger years.

10. Gleaning from seasoned moms is a breeze.
When you’re a young mom, getting advice from moms in your peer group can be tough, as everyone is navigating new waters. But when you experience motherhood for the first time a bit later in life, calling your crew to get the low-down on anything from sleep training to the best baby sunscreen will easily yield tried-and-true advice.

Hang in There: 25 Things New Moms Need to Hear

21 Things You’ll Think as a New Mom

Self-Care & Survival Strategies: 3 Books All New Moms Should Read

Babies require a lot of stuff! It’s a blessing to be flush with adorable outfits, cute baby blankets, and all those diapers and lotions, but it can be difficult to figure out the best way to organize it all. Try these clever ideas and essential products from Etsy, Amazon and more to keep the nursery and all your baby gear neat and functional.

Etsy shop The Good Grains Designs

1. Closet Size Dividers
Babies grow fast, so you’ll want a variety of clothing sizes readily available. Closet dividers hang right on the clothing rod to keep all those different sizes in order. These Wooden Nursery Closet Dividers ($19.99+) from Etsy shop The Good Grain Designs are handmade with the size labels in two convenient locations so you always know what you’re grabbing.

2. Drawer Dividers
Another way to organize all the numerous and tiny baby clothes, especially socks, is to use drawer dividers in the dresser. Look for dividers that have small and large options, like these fabric ones ($9.95-$39.99) from mDesign. Since baby clothes can be hard to fold, try a rolling method. Dividers are also a good way to organize small blankets, burp cloths and towels.

3. Under-Crib Storage
Below the crib is prime nursery space for storage of extra blankets, bulk diapers and wipes, seasonal or bigger-size clothing, toys, and stuffed animals. Measure how high the bottom of the crib rail is, and look for slim fabric or plastic bins, drawers or baskets that will fit. For ease of use, try this Under Bed Storage with Wheels ($59.99) from storageLAB that easily slides out from under the crib. When your child moves to a big-kid bed, it will work there too.

4. Storage Cubes
For standalone storage, cubes with or without bins are a versatile organization tool for any room. They can hide or display clothes, blankets, books, toys or even lotions and wipes. This space-themed 12-cube plastic storage unit ($39.99) from SONGMICS has an out-of-this-world design and doors to hide baby gear. For a more versatile option, we like this 6-bin organizer bookcase ($200) from Threshold, where the shelves can be left open or filled with bins. Look for fabric bins to match the nursery decor. We love these Organizix Foldable Animal Storage Bins ($14.99) from Organizix that feature an adorable selection of animals.

The WarmHome Store on Amazon

5. Changing Station or Dresser Top Organizers
The flat spaces on top of furniture—changing tables, dressers or small bookshelves—have lots of organization potential. Baskets are great for all the diapers, creams and wipes you need at the changing station. They also work for collecting and organizing small supplies, like nail clippers and files, pacifiers and chew toys. These WarmHome Storage Baskets ($32.49) have a convenient handle and are collapsible when not in use. The HOMEVAGE Diaper Caddy ($17.99) has lots of compartments in different sizes. With a flat bottom and large handles, it can sit on a tabletop or double as an oversize diaper bag.

6. Closet Door Hangers
Since hanging baby clothes won’t take up a lot of space, there is room for storage elements in the closet. A door hanger for the inside of the closet works for stuffed animals, small blankets, extra diapers and wipes, and shoes or booties. Look for one with clear or mesh windows, like this Univivi Door Hanging Organizer ($32.99), so it’s easy to see what’s there at a glance.

7. Wall Shelf with Pegs
For frequently used outerwear or baby slings and carriers, a wall shelf with pegs, hooks or a rack is a nice way to store them. The shelf is perfect for photos or mementos to give it a nice design element. The peg colors on this handmade Wooden Peg Rail ($44.95+) from Etsy shop Quailwoods can be customized to fit in with your nursery design needs.

8. Hanging Storage Bags
Storage bags with handles can be hung on the pegs of a wall shelf or rack, hung in a closet, or in some cases affixed to the ceiling. They are great for toys and stuffed animals or any other gear you want close at hand. We love the whimsical look of this Rainbow Hanging Pod set ($26.99+) from Etsy shop Feeding Pickle. These Hanging Mesh Space Saver Bags ($14.97) from Coastal Rose fold up to store almost anywhere when not in use.

Pottery Barn Kids

9. Bookrack
When storing books, a bookrack is a streamlined alternative to a traditional bookshelf. The Madison 4-Shelf Bookrack ($249) from Pottery Barn Kids saves space, secures to the wall, and allows books to face forward so you and baby can see all those beautiful cover illustrations. A bookrack isn’t limited to books either, so you can use extra shelves for other items, like toys.

10. Quilt Rack or Ladder
There are some things you want to store but not hide away. A quilt rack or ladder is a design element that doubles as storage. Instead of hiding baby’s handmade blankets and quilts, a rack or ladder both displays and stores. To make it safe for mobile little ones, look for a design that mounts to the wall, like the Small Blanket Rack ($46.90) from Etsy shop Wood Mountain Design.

The Hottest School Supplies on Amazon Right Now

Labels for Kids That’ll Keep You Organized All Year

Babies are lots of things—precious, sweet, funny, adorable, the list goes on. But one thing they are not? Easy. And that applies whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned pro at the mom game. The good thing is, you’re not alone in navigating the crazy, messy, amazing journey of being a baby mama. Those who have gone before are always ready to offer their best advice. Here are 25 short-and-sweet parenting tips on everything from sleep and must-have baby gear to self-care.

iStock

1. Go slow and spend lots of time at home. It will keep mommy and baby healthy.

2. Have a routine and stick to it.

3. When in doubt, put them on the boob or add water (bath, shower, sprinkler, hydrate).

4. Don't scroll Facebook while you nurse in the middle of the night. It’s harder to get back to sleep, and you’ll miss out on savoring the time with your baby. It really goes by so quickly, although it doesn't feel like when you're nursing several hours a day!

5. Never wake a sleeping baby.

6. Oldest and best advice in the book: Rest when they rest. Housework can wait.

7. Babies get bored, too! A change of scenery, like a walk around the neighborhood, can work wonders on a grumpy baby.

8. Find your village and ask for help. And if someone offers to come help if you need a shower or a nap, or to do the dishes, take them up on it!

9. There is no such thing as holding your baby too much. Embrace the little moments, be present, and enjoy that little person.

10. If the baby is fed, clothed, and loved, you’re doing everything right. There will be a million opinions on your parenting, so be kind to yourself as long as you know you’re doing your best.

11. Be patient with yourself and baby. You are both new at this. It takes time to get into the swing of things.

12. Tomorrow is a new day.

13. Take time for yourself. When your needs are met, you are more centered, patient and compassionate.

14. Don’t spend tons of money on baby clothes right away. There is ALWAYS a mom who is desperate to get rid of all the cute little outfits she sadly never got to use because babies grow out of things so fast.

15. Electric nail file. #gamechanger

16. Onesie pajamas with zippers only…unless, of course, fumbling with snaps when you’re bleary-eyed and half-asleep during middle-of-the-night diaper changes sounds like fun.

17. Try out different baby carriers until you find one that works for you, then baby wear as much as you can. It makes things so much easier.

18. Velcro swaddlessafe and snug.

19. Gripe water!

20. If you have anxiety while baby is sleeping, get an Owlet or other sleep monitor. Your rest is worth it.

Polina Tankilevitch via Pexels

21. Go with your instinctsthe mom gut is always right.

22. It’s said often because it’s so true: The days may seem long, but the years are short.

23. Do what works for your baby, and don't worry about what anyone else says or does. What’s good for one person’s child may not be good for yours.

24. Don’t compare your baby’s milestones to those of other babies.

25. You are all that your baby needs!

Skin-to-Skin Bonding: Bonsie

Mom of two and former clinical social worker, Anna Turcotte knows the benefits of skin-to-skin contact between babies and caregivers. With her experience, she set out to create babywear that encouraged skin-to-skin contact but also kept babies comfortable. Bonsie, a combination of "bonding" and "onesie" was born! Each onesie is made with double-layered flaps connected by an ultra-soft hook and loop fastener. Once the two flaps are open, baby's chest and belly are fully exposed for skin-to-skin connection. Parents can shop in sizes ranging from newborn to 9 months in comfy bamboo and cotton blends.

Safe Sleeping: Swaddle Sleeves by Two Baby Bears Co.

Umma Shekhani and her daughter loved swaddles, but when it came time to transition out of the original style, they weren't having much luck. All the options kept her too warm or offered just a little too much freedom. In a moment of desperation, Umma sketched and sewed the first version of Swaddle Sleeves, gently weighted sleeves that offer comfort. Since then, Swaddles Sleeves has expanded to even more products that include swaddle pods, sleep sacks, and footie pajamas. Products come with double zippers for quick changes and non-weighted "Mitten Sleeves" that can be worn when weighted sleeves aren't needed.

Peasy Co. grew and developed a full line of sustainable, progressive infant basics. The company provides comfort for babes and super quick diaper changes, using hypoallergenic, quick-trying, anti-microbial and breathable fabric.

Buttery Soft Blankets: Coco Moon

Amber Thibaut grew up as the daughter of a Maui waterman, which connected her strongly to the island culture. Late one night while nursing her son, she realized the blanket she reached for held no special meaning or connection to Hawaii, which embodied arts, tradition and community. That night, Coco Moon was born. Now, Thibaut's brand specializes in buttery-soft baby goods that are all inspired by memories of a childhood in Hawaii. Parents can shop island-inspired quilts, security and throw blankets, swaddles and clothing with whimsical prints and the softest materials.

Taeler Horak was a first time mom and she already despised trying to snap baby clothes in the middle of the night. Armed with her great grandmother's sewing machine, she set out to make the first ankle to ankle zippered baby romper. When local moms began asking for custom orders, Horak knew she was on to something. After creating her own website, rebranding and a soft launch on Facebook, Zipease, LLC was born. Easy Squeezy: UnbuckleMe

Towards the end of her maternity leave, Becca Davidson's mom offered to watch her daughter once a week. Her mom was really looking forward to spending some quality time with her new granddaughter, but soon realized that because of some arthritis in her thumb, she wasn't able to press the red button hard enough to release the buckle on the carseat. After realizing that a federal regulation required 9 pounds of pressure to release the button for safety reasons, Davidson and her mom set out find a solution. As an Occupational Therapist, Davidson's mother created a tool using splint material, which used leverage to reduce the force needed to unbuckle, and UnbuckleMe was born!. The duo refined the design, ran a successful Kickstarter campaign, attended dozens of events, acquired patents and continues to spread awareness.

Sweet Dreams: Snuggy Buddy Sleep Sack

Susan Bortone's two kids were never good sleepers. They loved to snuggle and always wanted a soft toy to hold but Bortone never wanted to leave an unsafe toy in the crib, which meant they would wake often looking for their lovey. After trying every sleep trick in the book, she started sketching and making a protoype that combined the security of a sleep sack and a safe toy all in one. When her daughter tried it for the first time, shel slept through the night! Now, Snuggy Buddy is in production and taking pre-orders for the breathable sleep snack made from muslin with a weighted butterfly with soft plush wings stitched at chest level. In addition to providing a safe sleep experience, Snuggy Buddy is also partnering with a charity, donating fabric for them to make blankets for babies in need.

No More Toddler Toss: Busy Baby Mat

Beth Fynbo was tired of the "toddler toss," when littles keep throwing things on the floor or putting their mouth on germy restaurant tables. In response, she created the Busy Baby Mat, a food-grade silicone placemat that firmly sticks on just about any surface including shopping cart handles, floors and tables. The innovative silicone tethers attach to toys to keep them in arms reach and the placemat is perfect for eating, and even drawing on!

Carseat Safe Jackets: Buckle Me Baby Coat

Buckle Me Baby

Mom of three Dahlia Rizk was sick and tired of wrestling her kids in and out of coats when it came time to getting into the car seat. She imagined a time when zippers weren't in the middle of coats and then instant excitement came! Rizk applied for a patent and some time later, the world’s first and only car seat-safe winter coat was born. Her genius design means that car seat straps and harnessed go under the coats and not on top, and are crash tested. They passed the first time around! Buckle Me Baby Coats are evaluated by CPSTs, first responders, and EMTs too but her "biggest experts are the kids who love not having coats forced off and on them all the time and parents who love having one less thing to worry about!"

Plush Pacifiers: WubbaNub

WubbaNub

While on a family vacation, Carla Schneider’s infant son could not be consoled. When his pacifer wouldn't stay in his mouth, the mom grabbed the hotel sewing kit and sewed her son’s favorite stuffed toy to a pacifier. Instantly he was comforted, and this was the start of WubbaNub. Twenty years later Schneider still owns and operates the brand while remaining true to her original mission: "Comforting and soothing one baby at a time while raising funds and awareness surrounding illnesses that afflict newborns."

Carrying Alternative: TushBaby

TushBaby

Tammy Rant and Sara Azadi created TushBaby out of complete necessity. Back and hip pain led them to question: was there a better way to carry their kids? When traditional carriers didn't work, the idea to create a strapless baby carrier was born. Life Skills, One Spoon at a Time: Kizingo

Kizingo

Lisa Sutherland and Kiyah Duffy are moms with seven kids between them. Both women have Ph.D.’s in nutrition and a shared passion for food, creativity and an interest in helping little ones learn to feed themselves. They knew what parents could do to help kids succeed at mealtime and learn to love eating healthy foods but didn't see the right tools to help them do that. Kizingo spoons work with the way young children hold and use utensils, making it easier for them to bring the food from their plate to their mouth!  Why is this important? Kids who can feed themselves are less likely to overeat and less likely to become picky eaters because they retain control over mealtime.

The Convenient Baby Carrier: Tady

courtesy Tady

When Natalie Riley's daughter was young and riding in a stroller, inevitably, she would demand to be carried. Natalie always ended up carrying her daughter in one arm and pushing the empty set of wheels with the other. The same goes for hiking—Natalie found herself carrying her daughter in her arms with an empty baby transporter on her back. She needed a tiny baby carrier that she could carry in her pocket or use as a purse while her daughter is walking, and so Tady—a baby carrier that can support up to 60 lbs and easily converts into a diaper bag—was born.

Bespoke Sleepsacks: Bumbershoots by Nana

Give your babe a leg up in the sleep department with Bumbershoots by Nana. These oh-so-soft sleep sacks are designed and hand sewn by Judy Carr (aka Nana), a grandmother who works out of her Maryland studio using patterns she has made and refined over time. Bumbershoots by Nana was born when her grandson was transitioning out of a swaddle and into a sleep sack. Judy noticed that even more expensive sacks seemed cheaply made and didn't wear well. In part due to her grandmotherly love, and in part due to her entrepreneurial spirit, Judy decided to fix that problem—her high-quality, reverse-lined sleep sacks are functional (they hold up extremely well to machine washes and everyday use) and fun (check out their designs here). Fun fact: Bumbershoots by Nana stocks multiples in each size, but is also able to produce 30 or so a week without assistance.

Multi Use Baby Gear: Cheeky Chompers

Cheeky Chompers

Julie Wilson and Amy Livingston founded Cheeky Chompers while on maternity leave after their first babies were born. They noticed a gap in the market for a teether that attached to a baby and that’s when the innovative Neckerchew was born! What’s a Neckerchew? It’s a highly absorbent, reversible cotton dribble bib with a silicone teether integrated right into the design. After the success of the Neckerchew, they went on to invent the Comfortchew, Chewy the attachable sensory hippo teether, the Cheeky Blanket, the organic MultiMuslin (it’s a nursing cover, stroller cover, teether, burp cloth, swaddle and blanket all in one) and the Muslin Comforter. These two mamas and their innovative thinking are streamlining the world of baby gear.

Catherine Merritt has been a long-time supporter of moms: she’s the genius behind MUMZY, the first and only crowdfunding platform for moms. Catherine sold MUMZY last year and is on to her newest venture, Finnbin. Co-founded with Shawn Bercuson (entrepreneur and superdad), Finnbin brings the Finnish tradition to the U.S. for the first time ever. What is a Finnbin? The Finns have been doing this for more than 80 years! We love these self-contained boxes that pair down the clutter and focus on what you need for your new arrival, so you can focus on baby! “To play a role in providing the peace of mind to new parents is such an incredible feeling as an entrepreneur and a fellow mom,” says Catherine.

Taking a Bite: Grabease

Eli & Nooli

Maya Shalev, founder of Grabease is a problem solver. As a busy lawyer, mediator and mother of three, she experienced all of the typical frustrations of parenting, including watching her little one repeatedly not be able to hold on to the spoon when trying to self-feed. So, she invented a better product: grabease utensils ($14.95), available on Amazon. These adorable fork and spoon sets are squat enough that tiny hands can grasp and control with ease, plus they are safer than regular "toddler" flatware: the handle is ergonomically designed and there's a choke barrier. It comes in several colors (including dark gray, teal, orange and white), and you can even grab a handy carrying pouch that tucks into your diaper bag or purse. The best part? It helps them develop motor skills right before your eyes. BPA free. Grabease also recently launched a 2 in 1 silicone spoon + teether, a double-sided toothbrush that helps helps with baby and toddler oral care and an all-over bib that helps to make the dinner mess less stressful.

Tees That Take Your Kids on a Journey: Kids Living Loudly

We love the whimsical designs, bold colors and soft-as-a-baby blanket material of Kids Living Loudly tees. In fact, it passed the test of our toddler who is awful at transitions and much to our surprise, didn't put up a fight when we dressed him in his new Caden, the Silly Crocodile tee. He proudly wore it all day and we knew he'd be able to play and move comfortably thanks to the stretchy fabric that's made up of sustainable bamboo, organic cotton and rayon.

The husband and wife team behind the brand wanted to not only create tees that withstood rough and tumble play, but that also told a story and was meaningful to families. This means that each tee takes your kiddo on a journey. From the moment he opens the fun dino capsule box to the short story of your tee's character (each story is printed on wildflower seed paper which you can then plant), your child will be captivated. Frustrated with the trials of shoe shopping for her daughter, Fatma Collins founded Ten Little. The new lineup of PETA-Approved was created in collaboration with physicians and includes vegan shoes that support natural development and movement. Each pair comes with removable insoles that are printed with a fit indicator and puzzle-piece characters to teach kids to put their shoes on the right foot. Additionally, Ten Little uses a predictive data platform and will send parents personalized reminders when it’s time to size up, and will make individualized recommendations based on size, color, and season, and the ability to order via text. When you size up, Ten Little will automatically include a prepaid shipping label  to donate your child’s outgrown shoes to Soles4Souls, an organization that provide shoes to people in need.

Maternity Styles with Attitude: Frances M

Frances M

When it comes to maternity fashion and what women really want—and need—during pregnancy and beyond, nobody knows better than a mom who has been there, done that. Ariel, founder of Frances M, discovered that when pregnant with her daughter she wanted something a little edgier, fashion-wise but still functional. So she took her sketches from the page and brought them to life. Her Frances M maternity line includes the Charlie Pant, Juniper Jumpsuit and the Poppy Skirt, all made with the pregnant and post-partum mama in mind. Ariel tells us, "Motherhood changed me in ways I didn't anticipate and I want to be part of that journey for other women. I believe in moms, and want them to feel their best everyday."

Uber Soft Hoodies Designed by Kids: TreeHouse Design Studios

Designed by kids and made by adults, TreeHouse Design Studios is not your average hoodie or trucker hat. Founded by mom of three, Gretchen MacIver, this company actually was born from an Instagram post of her daughter’s artwork. When Gretchen received an actual cash offer for her daughter’s painting, it got her wheels spinning. She realized how great it would be to showcase kids’ art screen-printed on long-lasting hoodies and hats, instead of throwing the creation in a box never to be seen again.

TreeHouse Design Studio aims to encourage kids’ creations. Their newest design—called “REESEscape” named for artist, Reese Fox—is translated onto a heather navy hoodie with a combo of screen printing and embroidery. The original piece used a combo of permanent markers and watercolors. Each hoodie is produced in downtown LA and includes an oversized name tag so kids can personalize their hoodies.

Security Friendly Purses: Score! Designs

Score!

A big sports fan and mom of three, Deni Sciano found herself attending a Dallas Mavericks-San Antonio Spurs game back in 2014, stuck in the long security line awaiting bag inspection and missing the start of the game. She was struck by a thought: why not manufacture clear bags, making it easier to get through security? In the time since, many professional sports have instituted clear bag policies, making her Score! Designs that much more in demand. Sciano believes that a clear bag can not only be a fashion statement but also a sign of team loyalty. In addition to meeting the guidelines for clear bags at stadiums, Score! also boasts purses and totes with team colors, the perfect complement to game-day style.

Oh-So-Soft Sleepwear That's Functional, Too: Little Sleepies

Little Sleepies

Like many mom business founders, the idea of her business, Little Sleepies, was born after Maradith noticed a lack of quality and functional sleepwear on the market after having her son in 2016. Sleepwear was either mass-produced and low quality or luxe with a hefty price tag. So, she took it upon herself to create accessible, functional and comfortable sleepwear for babies and kids. After tirelessly researching and testing fabric, design and fit, Little Sleepies was created. This line of sleepwear is awesome and different in a few ways: it features foldover hand and foot cuffs, turning any romper into a footie and back again. Parents and babes will also love the soft viscose bamboo fabric that's stretchable but won't stretch out, double zipper for late-night diaper changes, and the lack of snaps, buttons or interior tags. Check out their sweet styles at the link below.

Eliminate Wardrobe Tantrums: Choulala Box

Choulala
Choulala Box

As a working mom of two, Rola Amer found no time to shop for her kid’s wardrobe needs at traditional retailers and she couldn’t find any one online retailer that could help simplify the process of what her kids needed each season. She also discovered that her children’s sense of independence started as early as two years of age when they exert their will of what they want to wear each morning (aka wardrobe tantrums). That is exactly why she founded Choulala Box and the BLAST™ Method as an easy and fun way for kids to learn all five categories of a wardrobe: (1) B for Bottoms (2) L for Layering Pieces (3) A for Accessories (4) S for Socks and Shoes and (5) T for Tops. When they know these categories and how they work together to create outfits each day, they will literally have a BLAST™ in dressing themselves to express themselves.

Love at First Touch: Saint Haven

Saint Haven

Mother of three Jacqueline Sacks watched her kids struggle with the daily routine of getting dressed and never feeling comfortable as most fabrics irritated her children’s eczema and sensory issues. Determined to find a solution, she developed a brand-new, proprietary method for softening fabric with a non-toxic enzyme dip. Using fabric spun from the pulp of beech trees and dyed with non-toxic dyes, Jacqueline created Saint Haven Soft™. The breathable weave supports body temperature regulation and is built without tags, buttons or the sorts of stealthy itchy seams that can drive anyone crazy. The San Francisco-based luxe essentials line launched late last year with styles for babies, toddlers, children and women.

Blood, Sweat & Tears: AWE

AWE

When you are a three-time cancer survivor and working mother, the word strong doesn’t even begin to describe you. Jill Johnson is all of those things, and she’s also an entrepreneur whose successful jewelry business, Jilco, has been donating to organizations like Children’s Cancer Research Fund since 1989. But true to her tireless spirit, Jill wanted to create something more, and AWE was born. AWE is a jewelry company that honors and celebrates an individual’s triumphs, and the AWE Medallion has become a universal symbol of strength, hope and resilience. The design, which is the anchor of all the items, is four teardrops that represent blood, sweat and tears (of sorrow and joy) of every survivor’s journey. 20% of every sale goes to one of four national charities.

For Moms on the Go: Kaleido Concepts

Kaleido Concepts

“As people who love to travel and are always on-the-go with our kids in tow, we became frustrated with the dull, inflexible carrying options available to us,” said Lisa Hom, co-founder of Kaleido Concepts. So she and Anita Yuen invented something new: an origami-inspired line of transportable products—backpacks and totes—that are as attractive as they are efficient. Hom, previously the CEO of Parasol Co. and the VP of Product Design at Kiwi Co. and Yuen, Product Director at Google, make an impressive team. But more impressive are the little extras: the products are lightweight (most only way a few ounces), durable, can be folded into a pouch and tucked away, have ripstop fabric and YKK Zippers. Plus they work with artists: Ashley Goldberg, Kelly Ventura and Carolyn Suzuki have all come up with unique designs (Pink Breeze, Black Swan and Naval Tidal).

Keeping It Cute: Ice Cream Castles

Ice Cream Castles

Together, they capture vintage designs, magical elements and plenty of whimsy in their clothing line for kids. The Fall 2017 collection includes retro ski style mixed with sweet graphics, all in comfy styles and designs. Our only question: when will they come in grown-up sizes?

A Mismatch Made in Heaven: Chooze Shoes

Chooze

Sharon Blumberg, the mommy brain behind Chooze, always loved and embraced her young daughter’s creativity, especially when it came to fashion. And her kiddos signature look? Mismatched shoes. But the wearing of two different shoes can create balance issues and discomfort, which is why Sharon, along with her husband Marc, launched Chooze—a company that sells perfectly mismatched shoes! Since their launch in 2011, they have expanded to include clothing and accessories for kids, too, but their genius shoes are still the signature look. Sandals, sneakers, boots and more in a huge variety of colorful and whimsical patterns will delight your kiddos. You can also “chooze” your cause when shopping: they’ll donate a portion of all profits to one of five charities you can select from on the site.

Back to the Basics: Primary Clothing

Primary

Founded by two moms—Galyn Bernard and Christina Carbonell—who braved kids clothing shopping for more than 12 years and had grown beyond frustrated by the poor quality, slogan- and sequin-heavy options out there. They wanted the basics in bright colors at affordable prices and they knew other parents did too. Both veterans employees of Diapers.com, the two have created a brand that is both recognizable and classic, bright basics that have been rated highly by moms around the world. Primary is an excellent clothing line for kids on the autism-spectrum or kids with sensory sensitivities: you will not get a box full of itchy, ill-fitting items that your kid won’t wear. Most recently, they've launched a line of cozy PJs that are comfy for sleep and so soft, you'll wish they came in your size!
