The one-and-a-half to two hour workshops include a new furry friend (priced $22 or under), one clothing item, one sound or scent, a child-sized bear builder apron and a Bear Builder U diploma—and that’s all for $35! Classes start on Sept. 21 and go through Sept. 28. Adult supervision is required.

Borden wants to give your child a new way to drink milk! The dairy company recently launched Borden Kid Builder—and this is a drink your kiddo will actually want to try.

Kid Builder is Borden’s first two percent no-sugar-added milk made specifically for kids. With 50 percent more protein and calcium, and yummy strawberry or chocolate flavors, this is a pick that parents and kids will both enjoy.

Nick Suffredin, Borden Vice President of Research and Development, said in a press release, “Growing kids need protein, calcium, vitamins and minerals to build strong bodies and minds. But getting them to eat enough of these key nutrients can be a challenge.” Suffredin also added, “Whether offering the energy they need for that fun playdate or providing a tasty after-school snack, Kid Builder, with no added sugar, is an excellent high-protein option.”

Free-streaming service The Roku Channel has just expanded its popular platform to include kids and family-friendly content, but you’ll have to sit through ads.

The Roku Channel is one of the most popular streaming services thanks to the fact that it doesn’t cost viewers a dime to watch shows. Instead, like broadcast television you have to sit through a handful of ads to enjoy free programming.

Now Roku has added new offerings with the addition of a section called Kids & Family. Roku is also rolling out Parental Control features for The Roku Channel giving parents tools to control what kids have access to on the platform.

The new category includes over 7,000 movies and episodes from more than 20 partners including All Spark, A Hasbro Company, Mattel, Nelvana and Happy Kids TV, with shows and characters like Bob the Builder, Care Bears, Leapfrog, Little Baby Bum, Super Mario Bros., My Little Pony and Thomas & Friends.

Like the rest of The Roku Channel, young viewers will need to sit through ads to watch. However, the platform promises that compared to network television, the ads will be fewer and they will only be age-appropriate. The Kids & Family category isn’t on a separate app and can be accessed from the main landing page.

Subscribers who use The Roku Channel to access paid premium content, like Nickelodeon and HBO will be able to see the kids content offered by those providers under the Kids & Family section. The new category is available as of now on Roku Streamers and Roku TVs, but for the moment it will not be available via the digital app, which means it can’t be viewed on smartphones or tablets.

The researcher Brené Brown has found that the average adult can only identify three feelings. To have real emotional intelligence, however, we should be able to identify thirty feelings. Why is there such a huge gap between what we know and what we should know and how do we begin to bridge that gap? How do we become more comfortable talking about our feelings? I would not be surprised if reading the word “feelings” four times already makes you want to stop reading this column, but please stick with me. I promise it won’t hurt.

Emotional intelligence is extremely important in determining your success in life because it is closely linked to how well you will play with others. There are many studies now that indicate that high emotional intelligence is more important than IQ and is a better predictor of professional success, satisfying personal relationships, and overall contentment. How can we help our children to develop their emotional intelligence so that they grow up to be one of the adults who can identify more than three feelings?

1. Start by acknowledging your child’s perspective and empathizing with them.

We all want to be heard and this goes for your child as well. You do not need to have a solution for their problems or even do anything for them. All you should do is be there, see things from their point of view, and provide empathy.

2. Allow the expression of feelings.

All feelings are welcome. Of course, we limit behavior but we allow and welcome feelings. This is new and often uncomfortable for many parents who grew up in homes that followed the adage, “Children are seen and not heard.” Research tells us that denying feelings gives children the message that those feelings are shameful or unacceptable. Rather than denying or ignoring our children’s feelings, we can teach them that we all have a wide range of emotions.

3. Listen to your children’s feelings.

Do you remember the last time someone sat down with you and just listened to you talk about your feelings for as long as you needed to vent, share, and get it all out? That person gave you a gift. Give your child that same gift the next time they are overwhelmed with feelings. Listen to them talk about the things that seem like little things to you now; as they get older, they will share the big things.

4. Teach problem solving.

Emotions are important to acknowledge, experience, and talk through but we do not have to live in them. We can teach our children to work through their feelings by breathing through them and experiencing them. Sometimes feelings can be so intense that we may worry they will never go away. We can sit with our children and reassure them that feelings ebb and flow, and once the intensity of those feelings fades, we can assist them in solving any problems that remain. Often, even at a young age, children can begin to problem solve on their own. We always want to offer them the opportunity to initiate that process as a confidence builder.

5. Play!

We often forget that children, like little ones of all species, learn through playing. Play is also a great way to work through or process emotions. Social interactions and peer conflicts can create big feelings which children do not yet have the skills to handle. Many adults still struggle to cope with their emotions in a productive way so we must remember to maintain realistic expectations of our children. We can role-play using stuffed animals or act out challenging situations, giving our children the words to use and an opportunity to practice how to handle these relationships.

Imagine a world in which we were all raised this way: with respect for our feelings, encouragement to talk about them, support in solving problems, and a playful response to what’s left over. What a gift we can give our children, ourselves and our families. When we help our children develop these invaluable skills, we are giving them tools for life.

SPOILER ALERT! If you haven’t yet seen The LEGO Movie 2, you might want to avert your eyes from these super awesome new The LEGO Movie 2 building sets. Then again, they’re so amazing you just can’t help but take one tiny peek.

Three words: triple decker couch. Master builder Emmet reinvents the, uh, double decker couch and this time it’s got one more level and it turns into a robot. Emmet’s Triple-Decker Couch Mech is just one of three incredible new LEGO sets that have been revealed now that the sequel has finally been released.

The second set, Queen Watevra’s So-Not-Evil Space Palace, is exactly what it sounds like, a palace made for a LEGO Queen which features a detachable rocket on the top, security room, DJ booths and removable pods for other characters. Speaking of characters, this set comes with “Bachelor Batman.”

The Shimmer & Shine Sparkle Spa is the third set which features one of the movie’s surprising new characters, a glittering emo vampire named Balthazar.

The new sets range in price from$29.99 to $99.99 and will be available later this spring.

Since its debut in 2012, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood has been providing a new generation of kids with the same messages and themes as the show it was based on, Mister Rogers Neighborhood. Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood season 4 has just premiered with more inspiring topics, but there are some big changes coming to the Tiger household.

Series creator Angela Santomero recently sat down with The Atlantic to discuss the hit show and why it’s so popular among young fans and their parents. While borrowing many elements from Mister Rogers, the new show also draws on modern themes and real-life challenges that its preschool audience experiences at home.

Santomero explained that many episode ideas have even drawn on audience feedback that the creators have received on social media channels like Facebook. “Now because Daniel has been out on air, we can even ask on Facebook. Our fans are like, This is what I want, I want this episode! Then the team will talk about the ‘Fred-ish’ way to do them,” Santomero explained. Topics, such as using the potty or going to the doctor, have been suggested by parents and given an approachable Mr. Rogers-esque treatment.

For season 4, the show will explore a topic that many families face in their own lives: Mom Tiger will be heading back to work. She’ll be trading in her tunic (yes, Santomero confirmed that’s that Mom Tiger is wearing a tunic and not scrubs) for work clothes and going back to the job.

And what is Mom Tiger’s job exactly? “She’s a builder,” says Santomero. “She builds things, and she helps fix things all around the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, so we can visually see what she does. As a preschooler, it’s so cool to see Mom fix something, or build something, and you can see it before and after. She has overalls, with tools and a tool belt, things like that. It’s very cute.”

The LEGOLAND Castle Hotel Is on Its Way to Opening

Does your mini Master Builder like to imagine what it would be like to move like a Ninjago or wield a lightsaber like Luke Skywalker? While you can’t shrink down to LEGO size, you can now put your face on your favorite block people with customized LEGO minifigures.

UK company Funky3DFaces can put your face on top of a little LEGO person. Using a digital software program, they will map out your face from an image you provide. You can then select a hairstyle from several preset choices. Finally, they will create a 3D printed head. You can select a LEGO body to match or you can simply use the head on any minifigs you already have in your collection.

Each head is priced at $33.17, but they are currently running a holiday special and you can get one free when you buy two, if you want to turn the entire family into LEGO figures. It takes up to two weeks to manufacture the heads and 5-8 days to ship to the US, so keep that in mind if you’re hoping to put a few custom LEGOs under the Christmas tree this year.

Would your little LEGO lovers like seeing their own faces on figures? Tell us in the comments below.
