GiGi’s Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Centers has launched GiGi’s Step to Accept Challenge, a virtual run-walk-ride designed to send a message of acceptance across the world. On Sat., Jun. 6, teams from 60 GiGi’s Playhouse locations and startups nationwide will take to the streets, parks, bike trails and basement treadmills, set on amassing 7 million “steps to accept,” enough steps to span the entire United States.

GiGi's Playhouse

The challenge invites supporters of acceptance, in all its forms, to join the effort by signing up online to begin logging their steps.

“This goes beyond individuals with Down syndrome,” said Nancy Gianni, founder and Chief Belief Officer of GiGi’s. “We’ve been fighting for acceptance since we first conceived GiGi’s Playhouse in 2002 and we aren’t alone in that struggle. Every step matters because every life matters, which is why our initial goal is 7 million steps, but we would love to hit 50 million steps which is the amount of steps to walk around the world spreading our message of acceptance.”

Funds raised through GiGi’s Step to Accept Challenge will enable the not-for-profit to continue its mission of providing free life-changing therapeutic and educational programming, including GiGi’s at Home Virtual Programming, for more than 25,000 individuals with Down syndrome. Launched within days of the devastating closure of 48 GiGi’s Playhouse locations nationwide, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, GiGi’s at Home, an essential service for families at home dealing with a 24/7 diagnosis, currently offers 28 national and more than 100 local chapter live programs every week, along with more than 150 On Demand videos.

GiGi's Playhouse

GiGi’s at Home content is targeted for ages infant through adult, addressing everything from one-on-one math and literacy tutoring to fitness (GiGiFIT), art, music, dance, cooking and social skills. In just five weeks, there’ve been more than 150,000 visits to the GiGi’s at Home website, with more than 300 new families signing up to participate in GiGi’s programming.

The culmination event of GiGi’s Step to Accept Challenge is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. CT on Sat., Jun. 6. Following warm-ups and inspirational remarks, step-off will take place at 11:15 a.m. Those interested in registering for the Step to Accept Challenge or making a donation, can visit StepToAccept.org. Teams and individual participants are welcome. Registration is $21 per adult and $10 for children 12 and under. Free access to Virtual Coaching and the Strava fitness tracking app for monitoring and recording steps is available through the website.

Cinco de Mayo celebrations will happen a little differently this year. At a time when we are all practicing social distancing, Tostitos is reminding us not to forget the good stuff. The brand will aid COVID-19 relief efforts while still providing a small break and moment of levity May 5 is traditionally known for.

Salsa for Cinco

Tostitos is hosting “Salsa for Cinco,” a free online salsa dancing class for the entire country, directed by dance aficionados Mario and Courtney Lopez, to raise money for the Hispanic community. Tostitos and the Lopez family have partnered with UnidosUS, the nation’s largest Latino civil rights and advocacy organization, to raise awareness about the impact coronavirus is having on the Latino community.

“The entire world is in need of moments of levity and reminders to savor those little moments of joy during these trying times,” said Mario Lopez, a former “Dancing with the Stars” contestant and salsa dance enthusiast who often partners with his wife, Courtney Lopez, a classically trained Broadway dancer and actress. “At the same time, we need to raise awareness about the Hispanic population who has been hit incredibly hard during this crisis. This serves as a great opportunity to do both.”

The salsa dance is slated for 7 p.m. ET Tuesday, May 5, on Mario Lopez’s Instagram Live page. No preparation or previous experience needed. Participants just need to bring their enthusiasm and optimism to dance for an important cause.

“Tostitos and Frito-Lay are all about encouraging people to get together and smile, so to be able to do that in any small way possible, and more importantly while shining a light on the inequities in the Latino community — that’s what this event stands for,” said Marissa Solis, SVP of marketing and a leader among Frito-Lay North America’s Hispanic outreach efforts. “I look forward to America tuning in to help the cause.”

“UnidosUS is excited to partner with Tostitos and our dear friend Mario Lopez to raise awareness of the devastating impact COVID-19 has on the Latino community, and commit valuable resources for families in need,” said Zandra Zuno Baermann, SVP of Communications and Marketing at UnidosUS. “Salsa for Cinco gives us a moment to move and connect with community while remaining at home and staying safe for our families, our neighbors, and our country.”

Ahead of the event, Mario shared his family’s favorite recipe that he’ll be cooking up this Cinco de Mayo – the Tostitos Kickoff Dip. The fast and easy recipe has a flavorful blend of salsa, beans, jalapenos, sour cream and cheese, and is a go to his family especially loves to make around football season.

Teddy bears bring comfort and joy to those who receive them. Ty Warner, owner of the largest manufacturer of plush in the world, today announced the introduction of Hope, a limited-edition praying bear. Warner will contribute 100% of the profits from the original sale to the United Way Worldwide COVID-19 Fund.

Hope

“The world needs hope, and this little bear just might bring us the smile we need right now,” Warner said. “It is an honor to partner with United Way Worldwide, the world’s largest nonprofit organization, which has been providing hope to communities around the world for over 135 years.”

Warner’s announcement follows his decision last month to open his Four Seasons Hotel New York to nurses and medical workers fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, providing them a place to stay free of charge. In addition to today’s release, Warner is delivering individual Hope bears to the medical professionals currently staying at the hotel – and making additional donations to the United Way Worldwide on their behalf.

Hope will be available worldwide in essential retail outlets such as drug and grocery stores, so that people can purchase the bear while shopping for groceries and other essential items. Hope can also be ordered online.

“United Ways around the world are working tirelessly to provide critical human services and much needed financial support to our most vulnerable populations in the face of the devastating COVID-19 pandemic,” said Suzanne McCormick, U.S. President, United Way Worldwide. “We are touched by Ty’s introduction of Hope, whose sales profits will help the most vulnerable populations receive critical financial and social service support during this global crisis.”

In addition to fundraising from the sale of Hope, Warner is supporting those on the frontlines battling the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City by opening the doors of his Four Seasons Hotel New York free of charge to medical workers responding to the crisis.

“Many of those working in New York City have to travel long distances to and from their homes after putting in 18-hour workdays caring for COVID-19 patients. Our healthcare workers need a place closer to work where they can rest and regenerate in order to continue their service to our nation’s sick and infirm,” Warner said. “I am humbled that we could open the doors of the Four Seasons Hotel New York and provide a place for our nation’s heroes to rest.”

Soccer super-star Hope Solo is pregnant—with twins! The former U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team goalkeeper recently revealed her baby news (times two) while co-hosting the beIN SPORTS Weekend Winners show.

According to Solo, she and husband former NFL player Jerramy Stevens, will have a boy and a girl. During the announcement, Solo told fans, “Miniature soccer team on the way.”

The couple’s sweet baby news comes months after Solo suffered a miscarriage, also with twins. Last February Solo miscarried what she thought was a single pregnancy. Still in pain a week later, the soccer star went to the doctor only to find out that she had a second, ectopic pregnancy.

In an interview with Elle, Solo said, “The doctor said I was hours from dying. They ended up having to remove my fallopian tube.” Despite the devastating setback Solo and Stevens kept trying, via IVF. Now it looks like the couple’s determination has paid off—and Solo will soon become a true soccer mom.

Anne Hathaway May Have Had Baby Number 2

We had a miscarriage in February 2019 around 10/11 weeks. It was surprising and devastating, to be honest. I know that the statistics are 1:4 women suffer this loss, but I never thought that I would be in the group of “ones.”

Now here I am 28 weeks pregnant with our second baby boy, due February 8, 2020. The irony of the timing is not lost on me.

I know that a lot of women call their baby after a loss, a “rainbow baby.” Many companies have even sold rainbow baby-themed products. However, the phrase just doesn’t resonate with me, though. I get it, it’s a rainbow after a storm. It’s life after a death. That’s a great outlook! That’s just not my outlook.

I want to celebrate this baby because of his own unique life, not put the memory of a loss attached to him. All babies are miracles. Not just ones that come after a loss. Everything about this pregnancy and baby is special because HE is special. Not because of his pregnancy or birth order. I never want him to grow up thinking that his life isn’t just as wanted and prayed for as our other kids.

My husband and I will never forget the baby that we lost, but I feel like that is our grief to carry, not one to put on our kids who don’t know anything about it. In a way, I feel like that’s forcing negative emotions on them that can’t be processed because they weren’t a part of the situation. I won’t hide our story from our kids, but I also will not call any of my kids our rainbow baby. They are all our miracle babies!

The Jones-Baldwin fam wasn’t always so big. When Keia Jones married her husband Richardo Baldwin in 2010, she had just one child: a 2-year-old daughter, Zariyah (now 15) from a previous relationship. The couple was eager to expand their family though and quickly began trying for another. Sadly, that journey would seemingly come to an end after several devastating miscarriages and failed rounds of IVF left them both emotionally drained.

Little did they know, though, that their family would eventually blossom several times over, as they added not one, not two, but three more children to the Jones-Baldwin clan, thanks to the gift of adoption.

First came Karleigh, in 2014. She and Zariyah became close friends at school, but due to some financial difficulties, Keia says Karleigh’s mother fell on hard times and was unable to properly care for her. A year later, when she was 11, the Jones-Baldwins became Karleigh’s legal guardians, and the experience helped plant a seed: “Through that, we thought that expanding our family through fostering would be great!” says Keia.

And so, they did.

They visited a local agency, known as Crossnore, to become licensed foster parents. That experience ultimately led the couple to meet an adorable 3-year-old named Ayden (now 8), whom they officially adopted him in 2017.

But as it turned out, their family wasn’t done expanding just yet. That same year, their fourth child swooped into their lives unexpectedly. “He was initially only supposed to be with us short term and be reunified with his birth family,” Keia recalls, “but it didn’t work out that way, and on August 29, 2019, we officially adopted him!” The infant, named Princeton, was born drug-addicted and required several weeks of intensive care in the NICU after his birth.

“They needed someone to do skin-to-skin with him,” says Keia, “and chose me for the task!” Needless to say, the loving mother was more than willing to take on the job.

“I’m so thankful they did! After two years, our bond is so close and we love him to the moon and back! He brings us so much joy! Our hearts are so full and so grateful.” There’s certainly no question about that one, especially now that photos of the family happily celebrating Princeton’s #AdoptionDay has gone viral. Keia shared them to her Facebook page on August 29, as well as her photography page, KJBaldwin Photography,—mostly because of the awesome #AdoptionDay T-shirts the family is wearing.

“No Bump. Still Pumped!” Keia’s T-shirt read. Richardo’s reads, “The Man Behind the Pumped!”

Of course, Princeton’s tee might have been the cutest of all, designed to look like the logo on N.W.A.’s 1988 album, Straight Outta Compton. Instead, it reads “Straight Outta Adoption.”

Looks like they’re going to need a kids menu in Hell’s Kitchen, because Gordon Ramsey and wife Tana are expecting their fifth child. The celeb chef and his wife celebrated their baby-to-be with a full-family New Year’s Instagram announcement!

The exiting baby news comes just over two years after a heartbreaking miscarriage. In June 2016, Ramsay wrote on his Facebook page, “Hi guys, Tana and I want to thank you so much for your support over the past couple weeks. We had a devastating weekend as Tana sadly miscarried our son at five months.”

Ramsay continued, “We’re together healing as a family, but we want to thank everyone again for all your amazing support and well wishes. I’d especially like to send a big thank you to the amazing team at Portland Hospital for every they’ve done.”

The Ramsays—including all four kiddos—took to Instagram to wish the world a happy New Year’s. After each child (including daughters Meghan, 21, Matilda, 17, and Holly, 19, and son Jack, 19) gave their own well wishes for the new year, the camera moved down to Tana’s baby bump. Ramsay is heard off-camera saying, “And guess what? Happy New Year because…” And obviously we all know what that because is. So congrats to the soon-to-be fifth time around parents and the whole Ramsay fam!
