Amusement parks and resorts have been closed since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic. LEGOLAND Florida Resort has announced that they will officially reopen on Jun. 1.  In order to keep guests and employees safe the plan includes reduced capacity, cashless payments, social distancing practices and enhanced cleaning regimes.

The plan has been developed with measures based on government advice and the requirements of health authorities, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“As part of Merlin Entertainments, our leaders across the globe have been sharing best practices daily, and we’ve been able to apply what we’ve learned from other successful Merlin attraction reopenings to be confident with our Resort’s reopening plan. In addition, we have also sought guidance from our partners at AdventHealth,” said General Manager of LEGOLAND Florida Resort Rex Jackson. “We’re ready to play, and we look forward to reopening LEGOLAND Florida Resort as a safe and memorable place for families to play again.”

Guests are encouraged to download the LEGOLAND mobile app, and review the website in advance of their arrival, for a full outline of the parks’ new arrival and attractions procedures, as well as details on the enhanced cleaning measures. Tickets and vacations should be booked in advance online, when possible.

Guests should be prepared to make on-site payments using a credit or debit card as cash will no longer be accepted on property. Guests experiencing any symptoms related to COVID-19 should refrain from visiting the Resort.

At the time of reopening, the park will operate at 50 percent of its capacity. If guests are arriving by car, they should expect to leave spaces in between vehicles and follow additional spacing instructions. All park employees and guests will be required to undergo non-invasive temperature checks. Those with a temperature of 100.4 F will not be allowed entry, nor will those in their party.

Every employee at LEGOLAND will wear a facial covering, and we will provide complimentary masks to encourage all our guests, ages three and above, to do the same. Brick-themed spatial markers and kid-friendly, parkwide signage will help remind guests of social distancing recommendations and hygiene practices. More than 200 hand sanitizing stations have been added throughout the park. Guests can view these locations on the LEGOLAND mobile app.

Character meet and greets and other select attractions will be suspended at the time of reopening. Enhanced cleaning measures throughout the day will disinfect high frequency touch points, including ride restraints, tables and chairs, service counters, handles and door handles. In the coming weeks, guests will also be able to allow them to reserve their spot in queue lines for major attractions directly from their own devices.

Along with the park and waterpark’s reopening, the all-new LEGOLAND Pirate Island Hotel will debut on Jun. 1. Reservations are available for travel dates Jun. 1 or later for both LEGOLAND Pirate Island Hotel and LEGOLAND Hotel.

The Resort will initially open with adjusted operating hours. LEGOLAND Theme Park will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and LEGOLAND Waterpark will be open daily from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Guests can stay up-to-date, with operational changes, as well as health and safety enhancements online on the LEGOLAND website

11 Insider Secrets of LEGOLAND Florida Resort

Photo: The House

Our inability to perform at a high-level is often a direct result of our environment. Think about how you feel on a rainy day compared to a sunny one, or, in a bright room instead of a room that’s dimly lit. The temperature can even affect you. All of these factors influence our mood, energy, and productivity.

So, if the environment plays such a crucial role, why are we expecting our kids to learn in an environment not conducive to learning?

As it stands, the average American school isn’t set up to optimize student performance. Most classrooms today consist of an inspirational poster or two, a whiteboard at the front of the room, and desks filed in neat rows—similar to the classroom you or I might have sat in 20 years ago.

The design is based on a one-size-fits-all model. A desk, for example, was created with the average student in mind—both physically and emotionally, but what we’ve learned over time is that there is no average student, so why haven’t more schools evolved to include seating arrangements more helpful to today’s learners and teaching styles?

A 2012 study in the U.K. found that classroom design could enhance or setback a student’s academic progress up to 25% during the course of a year.

And it’s not just the classroom that isn’t working. Spaces that we typically dedicate to homework also aren’t ideal. Take a look at your home, for example. There are so many distractions, from phones and television to noise created by siblings. Many home environments are too chaotic to allow a student to concentrate on getting work done.

Since space can either inhibit or improve learning, it would make sense to create environments that give the modern student more flexibility, similar to what we see in learning at the university level or in today’s workforce where many adults choose to work away from their desks.

Here are some examples of other study space solutions for students:

Grab the books and a cup of coffee. The library can be a great space for a student who needs complete silence to learn best. Conversely, a coffee house can be a great option for a student who likes a bit more external stimulus, or a place for small-group studying. With a pair of headphones, it can also be a good environment for tuning out the world and getting into the zone.

Soak up the natural environment. Studies have demonstrated the numerous benefits that come from spending more time in the great outdoors, like improving short-term memory and reducing stress. Many of those benefits can improve a student’s focus and attention. Studying or doing homework outside gives students the opportunity to get fresh air that helps clear their minds, destress, and access their creativity.

Choose a creative co-working space for kids. Most cities offer a variety of after-school spaces for students to do schoolwork among peers, encouraging collaboration. These spaces help cultivate an environment where they can relax, learn, and grow in a positive way. By offering different options, students get to find the best climate for them to work in and thrive where they feel most comfortable.

With the many issues facing education today, creating environments that can promote learning, boost confidence, and produce positive feelings about education can be one of the most cost-effective, easy solutions we can implement to enhance our children’s education.

Currently based in Glencoe, IL, Gil is looking at expanding the concept into new communities nationwide.

It’s been almost a year since Universal Studios announced that it will be adding a The Secret Life of Pets ride to it’s Los Angeles theme park, and the wait is almost over! The new attraction, which boasts 64 animated figures is set to open to guests on Mar. 27.

Based on the 2016 hit film, The Secret Life of Pets ride will take visitors along for the adventure with a group of pets hoping to get adopted into their fur-ever homes. Alongside Max, Snowball, Gidget, Chloe and Duke, and some other animal friends, riders will assume the role of stray puppies as they zip along a track headed for the ultimate destination: a Pet Adoption event.

The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash! will combine live, dimensional and animated characters with hyper-realistic media as guests on board the ride vehicles are transported through the streets of New York City, hitting a variety of obstacles on their way to being adopted.

The state-of-the-art ride will showcase optical enhanced gesture-tracking technology. Guests have the option to be transformed into a stray puppy for the duration of the ride––a truly unique experience each and every time they ride.

The new ride will be situated next to the “Despicable Me Minion Mayhem” and “Super Silly Fun Land” attractions.

Flying with a food allergy just got safer. Kaléo, the makers of Auvi-Q auto-injectors, recently reported that the company’s epinephrine pens are now included in American Airlines’ emergency medical kits.

The pen-filled kits, which are now on-board AA’s main fleet, are a step up from the syringe and vile versions the airline (and other airlines) previously stocked.

Kaléo’s general manager of allergy and pediatrics, Omar Khalil, told Allergic Living, “My understanding is when American Airlines was renewing its contract and emergency medical kit options, Auvi-Q was presented to them as a way to both enhance the components of their emergency medical kits and also as a means to be ready for an [anaphylaxis] situation that could take place in the air.”

The recent collab between Kaléo, AA and emergency medical kit distributors HealthFirst and MedAire means the airlines’ almost-900 planes will have Auvi-Q 0.3 mg and Auvi-Q 0.15 mg auto-injectors.

Along with AA, Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines also carry Auvi-Q auto-injectors. If you’re wondering when other airlines will get on-board with this potentially life-saving change, Khalil added, “According to our distributors, they are also in dialogue with a number of other major airlines.”

When you have a sick kiddo at home or you happen to be sick yourself, just making a quick run to get the supplies needed from tissues to medication can be impossible. Now Walgreens new drone delivery service can come to the rescue.

Between sick days and crazy schedules there are some days when moms just wish the items you need could magically appear at your doorstep. Starting next month, Walgreens will be making those wishes come true for customers in Virginia where the company will be testing a new drone delivery service.

Walgreens is rolling out a pilot program in Christiansburg, Virginia which will be the first on-demand drone delivery service in the country. The program is a partnership with dronemaking company Wing, which will also be partnering with other local businesses for delivery during the pilot phase.

“This trial is intended to demonstrate the benefits of drone delivery by improving access to health care products, creating new avenues of growth for local businesses and exploring ways to enhance last-mile delivery service,’’ Wing CEO James Burgess said.

Customers will be able to order items like aspirin, tissues, first aid supplies, allergy medication and more. A drone can be dispatched within minutes of an order being placed and travel up to six miles each way. If the program is successful, perhaps it will expand to more U.S. cities soon.

Many mundane things will enlighten a child’s imagination. For a toddler, the simplest thing like a key chain or colorful slippers can draw their attention, believe it or not. This happens because their little brains try to classify things that they can play with. Since it is not advisable, safe or hygienic to let your child play with household items, you need to embrace their curiosity with various stimulating educational toys. And while any old toy will do, when they play with toys that can affect their learning process, then there you subconsciously stimulating their intellect, motor skills, and cognitive development.

Embrace Their Imagination: Toys like multicolored cushion balls or soft educational floor puzzles can trigger a child’s curiosity. 6-months-old babies can differentiate colors and shapes very easily. Floor puzzles are extremely effective for small kids because they come in various shapes, colors, numbers, and patterns that enhance their creativity and physical development. If you were to place them on a playing mat and put some fluffy soft toys in different shapes, the child will slowly grab the things that they want. This is how they learn to develop various motor and recognition skills that will help them later in life. Some of the most effective educational toys at this stage are those that promote the sensory play. Rattles, infant play gums, and soothers. As they grow, their preference will change, then you introduce interactive problem-solving toys like blocks or stackers.

Toys Boost Physical Development: One of the most crucial moments in every child’s growth is their ability to differentiate and comprehend things. From the simple play, kids can enhance their muscle strength, get good hand-eye coordination, and become more mentally and physically active. If a child wishes to reach for a rattle or a ball, it needs to push itself, enabling him to be more flexible and agile. As they get older, the toys become more constructive, cognitively and logically engaging. Toys that boost physical and comprehensive development are various fun building sets, cubes, board puzzles, scientific kits, and playful toy robots. If you were to get quality and first-rate educational toys, you will undoubtedly nurture your child’s creativity and boost his physical development.

Enhance Creative Thinking and Develop Social Intelligence: Their little minds have a totally different world on its own. When you place educational toys in front of them, they will have a well-guided play experience. By using puzzles, match shape stackers or organize sorters and blocks, they develop something that is considered as mind-enhancing development. This enables them to enhance appropriate social interaction, learning how to share, learning about social values and sentiments, language skills and emotional development. With educational toys, children learn how to handle and accept certain social situations like losing a game, develop perception, intuition, and reasoning as they are concentrating on winning in the game. Toys help them gain mental strength as they work on developing empathy at a young age and overcome any challenges that may lie in front of them.

Help Discover the World: Little do parents know, but toys are responsible for building a child’s confidence. As they play, they get acquainted with the problem-solving situation, and once they figure out how a toy works after trial and error comes elation. Not only excitement, but great toys can help them discover the world around them as they get excited by completing a task successfully. Toys that promote movement or crawling and use lights, sounds, and movement techniques to enhance their participation in the game make children wanting to do better, move faster, and complete a task more promptly. As the child gets more aware of the world around him, toys that help them develop recognition skills can be used. Interactive books with sounds or themed playsets that refine their language and motor skills, ride-on toys to boost coordination, and other problem-solving toys that reinforce imagination.

Impact on Their Future: Scientists have discovered that educational toys can make children smarter as they stimulate brain function with play. Any toy that beeps, crinkles or needs prodding and poking will shape up a child’s brain for the future by teaching them the way things work and the way to overcome obstacles to reach a goal. In the early stages of a child’s development, their little minds can be molded in multiple ways so that they can use that skilled picked up while playing with toys in later stages. For instance, if a toddler has learned the sound of a cow by pressing the toy, once he sees the animal in real life, the toddler will be able to mimic the sound, and so on. Toys simply provide the motivation that can have a significant impact on future learning.

By integrating fun play with toys in your child’s childhood you will encourage their social and cognitive growth as well as physical development. Educational toys guide your child through learning stages in life, so they are definitely a fruitful investment.
