North county folks, the day has arrived—The Shake Shack, located in The Beacon La Costa, is now open for business. Rumors about the modern-day “roadside” burger stand, known for its 100% all-natural Angus beef burgers, chicken sandwiches, and flat-top Vienna beef dogs opening its fifth San Diego location in Carlsbad, surfaced last year. Burger connoisseurs, young and old, have been anxiously waiting for its grand opening ever since.“We’re thrilled to finally open our doors at The Beacon,” said Andrew McCaughan, Chief Development Officer at Shake Shack. “Our newest Carlsbad Shack is beautifully designed and we’re so excited to finally welcome in the community to dine with us.”

Shake Shack Opens in La Costa
Shake Shack

The La Costa location offers a walk-up window, which gives guests the ability to pre-order via the Shack app and pick up their food from the exterior of the shack. Whether you choose to take out or dine in, we recommend trying the Shroom Burger—the delicious option proves that a "veggie" burger can be the star of the show! The mushroom is breaded, fried, and full of cheese, and can easily be a family favorite.

Shake Shack

Expect to see all the classics on the menu, including the ShackBurger®, Chick'n Shack, crinkle-cut fries and hand-spun shakes. In addition, The Carlsbad Shack will serve up a SoCal regional burger, the Roadside Double featuring a double Swiss cheeseburger with Dijon mustard and onions simmered in beer. Shack-canned Wine, Shackmeister Ale, and local beers are also available Seasonal burgers and drinks will hit the menu in the coming weeks.

Shake Shack is committed to being part of a larger mission to Stand for Something Good® and donated a dollar for every burger sold on opening day to Kids for Peace. Kids for Peace is a California-based global nonprofit that provides a platform for youth to actively engage in socially conscious leadership, community service, arts, environmental stewardship and global friendships.

The Beacon will ultimately offer a collection of restaurants, shops, and lifestyle concepts curated to celebrate the North County Coastal community. Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams is soon to open, joining other local favorites like Lofty Coffe Co. and La Costa Wine Co.

Did you save beloved toys from your past to share with your little ones? Mattel announced the grand opening of the Fisher-Price Toy Museum, a virtual museum designed to celebrate the brand’s 90-year legacy.  This first-of-its-kind virtual experience, which will be hosted on Instagram, enables visitors to relive their favorite toys through a curated exhibition.

The museum also includes a digital gift shop that offers an assortment of apparel, accessories, housewares and more, featuring vintage imagery from Fisher-Price classic toys.

Fisher-Price Museum

“The Fisher-Price Toy Museum was inspired by the idea that, whether you were born in the 1950s, 1980s or 2000s, everyone has a memory of their favorite childhood toy, and many of those are from Fisher-Price,” said Chuck Scothon, SVP and Global Head of Infant and Preschool, Mattel. “The intent of this museum is to take visitors back to their unique childhood experiences, and give them the opportunity to relive their youth, even if just for a few moments.”

Fisher-Price Museum
At the museum, the legacy of Fisher-Price toys will be on full display. In honor of the brand’s anniversary year, the museum will feature more than 90 different exhibits that will be organized by decade, enabling visitors to easily locate the vintage toys from their childhood. The collection will include a variety of classic products creatively presented by artist, set designer, and photographer Leila Fakouri, who focused on keeping the toys as the star of each environment while incorporating dimension and texture to create an authentic museum feel. Exhibits include Snoopy Sniffer, which launched in 1938, and sits atop a fabricated slice of blueberry pie, the iconic Roller Skates, which were first introduced in 1983, and are showcased in a miniature roller-skating rink, and many more.

Accompanying the museum is a gift shop offering 16 products that celebrate the brand’s timeless toys. Gift shop items, which will be available in limited quantities, include a Doctor Doodle T-shirt, Space Blazer socks, shoelaces featuring the brand’s classic roller skates and a lunchbox with imagery of vintage Little People figures.

The opening of the flagship at 1601 Broadway (at West 48th Street), will serve more guests annually than any other Krispy Kreme location in the world, had been scheduled for May but was pushed back due to the pandemic.

Krispy Kreme Times Square

“We’re filled with joy to share the sweet news that Krispy Kreme is opening in Times Square,” said Michael Tattersfield, CEO of Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation. “We said earlier this year that when New York City and Times Square are ready, we’ll be ready. We can’t wait to bring a new bright Hot Light to Broadway beginning Sept. 15.”

Safety of guests and team members being the top priority, Krispy Kreme will implement a plan designed to keep everyone safe by controlling crowds, including remote queueing and providing guests the ability to reserve a time to visit the shop online. Krispy Kreme will provide more details on this closer to the grand opening. The shop also has a “grab-and-go” counter and window for curbside ordering and pick-up.

Krispy Kreme Times Square

Inside the shop, Krispy Kreme will adhere to COVID-19 regulations and guidelines provided by the city and CDC, including employee health screenings at the beginning of shifts, washing hands regularly, wearing face masks, social distancing floor stickers, protective barriers at ordering points, and additional disinfecting throughout the shop. For added convenience, people can order doughnuts ahead of time for pick-up at the Times Square location by visiting our website or via mobile app.

The Times Square shop is part of Krispy Kreme’s 2020 expansion in New York City, which by the end of the year will total eight shops from uptown to downtown, including the brand’s remodeled Penn Station location. Krispy Kreme will hire more than 400 new team members in New York City so far this year.

“We all need a little joy right now and with that we welcome the Krispy Kreme flagship location to the heart of this great city. We’re thrilled for New Yorkers and visitors to enjoy the one-of-a-kind treats and the famous Hot Light experience. This iconic brand will make Times Square sweeter and we can’t wait to take a bite,” said Tim Tompkins, President of the Times Square Alliance.

Mystique Blue: Isla Holbox, Mexico

Mystique Blue

Located just off the coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, Mystique Blue, a boutique resort located on Isla Holbox, is the ideal getaway for families who want to continue social distancing. Isla Holbox itself is a small 26-mile island within the protected YUM Balam nature reserve, unspoiled by the mass tourism of other popular Mexican destinations, such as Tulum or Playa del Carmen.

Mystique Blue is located just minutes away from lush lagoons and an abundance of wildlife where families can participate in exciting excursions, such as learning how to kiteboard, birdwatching, kayaking through the mangroves or swimming with Whale Sharks. Kids will love getting to see the indigenous flamingos that roam.

Mahekal Beach Resort: Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Mahekal Beach Resor

For those looking for a taste of true culture, book the Mayan Culinary Casita for no more than ten guests, which rests inside a secluded alcove nestled in an emerald patch of jungle, where diners help native Mayan chefs prepare a private, multi-course lunch complete with Mayan rituals, hands-on interaction and rich, historical tradition. Or if travelers are looking for private suites boasting plunge pools, book Mahekal’s “Ocean Front” casitas or “Beach House” bungalows, which are located directly on the beach - just 10 steps from the crisp, Caribbean Sea—and tout open-air terraces with crochet hammocks, personal plunge pools or private outdoor moon showers

Margaritaville Beach Resort: Nassau, Bahamas

Margaritaville Beach Resort

Margaritaville Beach Resort Nassau, opening this summer in The Bahamas, is the ultimate resort destination in The Bahamas—a casual-luxe island escape for vacationers to kick back, relax, & discover the island vibe. With 129 residential condos available to rent through the hotel, guests can enjoy all of the comforts and convenience of home—including a full kitchen to prepare meals—along with access to the resort’s many amenities. Vacationers who would prefer a traditional hotel experience can choose from a range of suites in the hotel tower, many of which include private outdoor terraces and jacuzzi hot tubs for relaxation away from the crowds.

Planet Hollywood Beach Resort: Guanacaste, Costa Rica

Planet Hollywood Costa Rica

Surrounded by natural wonders, cultural richness and only-here experiences to explore, Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Costa Rica is the ideal getaway for post COVID-19 travel. When it comes to ways that families can continue social distancing while traveling this summer, the all-inclusive resort just keeps giving.

Their Star Class™ Producer’s Suite, the biggest and baddest hotel room available, offers large windows ensuring uninterrupted views of the Papagayo Gulf, a private balcony that spans the entire length of the suite and comes complete with a personal jacuzzi, a personal kitchen area and in-room bar, and a pool table and Your Soundtrack™ that provide in-room fun and entertainment.

The resort has a curated list of private, off-property excursions to explore and discover the wonders of Costa Rica, non-motorized water sports (kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkeling and more!) that can be done alone or in small groups, and plenty of room to roam and bask in the beauty of the Papagayo Peninsula.

Bungalows Key Largo: Key Largo, FL

Bungalows Key Largo: Key Largo, FL

Plan a romantic getaway to recharge! The luxury, adults-only Bungalows Key Largo which celebrated its grand opening this past December as the first and only all-inclusive resort in the Florida Keys, provides intimate boat excursions (at an additional cost) for guests who would like to dive the world’s third-largest reef system, enjoy an unrivaled Florida sunset aboard “Lady B” the 56-foot sail catamaran or for a daytime sail—to lounge on Lady B’s drink mat sprawled across the stern or to kayak the Everglades, taking in the destination's beauty + wildlife.

Tallahassee, FL

Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park

Tallahassee, Florida lies in one of the most biologically diverse regions in the U.S. and is home to more than 700 miles of diverse trails—aptly lending the nickname “Trailahassee”—with abundant biking, hiking, paddling, equestrian and running trails. Notable parks and gardens within Tallahassee include Alfred B. Maclay State Gardens, Cascades Park and Tom Brown Park. With more than 20 undulating lakes or endless rivers, kayakers observe Florida’s wildlife on scenic adventures throughout the year. Whether by land or water, breath-taking landscapes, amazing wildlife and recreational activities abound for families during the summer that wish to practice social distancing.

Florida’s Sports Coast: North of Tampa, FL

Giraffe Ranch

Located just north of Tampa on the beloved Gulf of Mexico, Florida's Sports Coast offers a more active vacation spot to tackle your next adventure. The souvenirs you'll take home are legendary stories and unforgettable memories from one-of-a-kind attractions.

Book a private segway safari tour at Giraffe Ranch, for an intimate eco-experience. The wildlife preserve—located on 47 acres of rolling countryside, with huge live oaks, native orchids, lush pastures and ephemeral wetlands—is a Florida agritourism enterprise, open by reservation only (meaning you won’t have to battle large crowds as tours are strictly limited in size and are fun, educational adventures).

Go on an easy, edible, adventure—often referred to as an underwater Easter egg hunt, scalloping is one of the easier sea adventures (only requires basic swimming skills) making it an ideal excursion to be enjoyed by solo-travelers, families and groups alike—just grab a snorkel, mask and fins!

Rent a boat from Windsong Charters, and dive into captivating coastlines known for world-class flats fishing and some the highest scallop counts in the state. Be sure to swing by Anclote Key Preserve State Park for added seclusion—accessible only by boat, the preserve boasts seven miles of coastline and is home to more than 8,000 nesting shorebirds. Rich in wildlife and birding trails, birding enthusiasts can see countless native specifics that call the coastline home. . . and as an added bonus, a picturesque 1887 lighthouse stands as a sentinel on the southern end of the island.

Hike, bike and explore 100 vibrant area trails and 35 public parks. Trinity Cyclery will happily outfit your family with mountain bike rentals for off-the-beaten-path exploration.
