Target and Disney announced their new collab earlier this year and now the magical moment has finally arrived. Disney Stores are now open at select Target locations across the country.

Just in time for Triple Force Friday and Frozen Fan Fest, Disney Stores are now open at 25 Target locations. The shop-within-a-shop set-ups are situated near the toy aisles and kids’ clothing departments. They feature over 450 items, including more than 100 of which have only been available at the Disney Store until now.

These Disney Shops aren’t just a place to check off your shopping list, however. They also feature music, interactive displays and a cozy seating area where families can relax, play games and watch Disney movie clips and more. Target says they also include photo ops where you can try on Mickey’s magic hat, pose with a life-size lightsaber and wear a prince or princess crown.

In honor of the grand opening, Target rolled out some brand new Frozen 2 and Star Wars toys. Several are already on the Bullseye Top 100 Toys List, like the LEGO Star Wars Resistance Y-Wing Starfighter and Disney Frozen 2 Arendelle Castle.

These can now be found among other must-have holiday items at Target stores and online. Some of the Target Disney store exclusives include Elsa’s Black Sea Dress, Sing & Swing Olaf, Anna & Elsa Baby Dolls, as well as action figures and droids from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, The Mandalorian among several others.

“We’ve brought the magic of Disney to Target, bringing together great merchandise amidst an experience that’s truly immersive and unique,” says Mark Tritton, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, Target. “Guests will be able to connect with the Disney characters and stories they love in a meaningful way, while accessing the latest and greatest Disney products, including items previously only available at Disney retail locations.”

Don’t fret if your local Target doesn’t feature one of these Disney Stores, you can still shop all the awesome merchandise online at Target.com/Disneystore and in the Target app. Customers who shop in stores or online on Oct. 5 will receive a $10 Target GiftCard with a $40 purchase of Frozen or Star Wars toys. From Oct. 6 to 12, guests spending $50 on toys at Target will save $10 and those who spend $100 will save $25.

Theme park enthusiasts are in for a wild ride when it comes to much-anticipated new attractions at Southern California parks this summer. Two of the southland’s largest hot spots, Universal Studios and Disneyland both promised the grand opening of blockbuster-related experiences, and not everyone is on target.

Keeping up with its deadline, Universal Studio’s held the official opening for the brand new Jurassic World: The Ride to the public the second week of July. Replacing the 22-year-old predecessor, Jurassic Park ride, the newest thrill takes riders on a watery journey past fun, friendly and ferocious dinosaurs.

The ride is already open to the public, just in time to keep park goers cool from the sweltering SoCal sun.

On a more disappointing note, Galaxy’s Edge newest attraction, Rise of the Resistance will not see an audience this year. According to MiceChat, the complicated ride is experiencing technical issues, so the grand opening has been pushed back to Jan. 17, 2020. Disney Parks has claimed that construction crews can only open one ride at a time, and have been flown to Florida to open the attraction there first.

photo: Disney Parks

Even though Walt Disney World’s own version of Galaxy’s Edge was a few months behind the Disneyland version, its Rise of the Resistance ride will actually open Dec. 5, 2019. The delay aided the resort in working out some of the technical issues and will open ahead of California’s attraction, according to reports.

Despite the Disneyland’s newest attraction not opening until after the new year, guests can look forward to fewer lines and wait times. Since the busy holiday season will be over, you’ll be able to experience the galaxy far, far away with minimal crowds.

The biggest news of the year for Disney Parks is the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, but the fun isn’t stopping there. On the heels of the grand opening, Disneyland is paving the way for it’s next big hit: Marvel land at California Adventure.

The Disneyland Resort is already moving ahead on its plans for a super expansion to California Adventure with the addition of a Marvel-themed land. While there is no opening date set, the ball is officially rolling as the city of Anaheim, where the resort is located, has approved several building permits for the new addition.

photo: Joshua Sudock/Disneyland Resort

According to the Los Angeles Times the permits include projects like bathroom renovations, the addition of a retail outlet, microbrewery, a character meet-and-greet area and more. The newspaper is also reporting that one of the new attractions being added is rumored to be an interactive Spider-Man themed ride. Disney will likely reveal more details of the new land at the upcoming D23 expo in August.

Earlier this year Disney closed the area of California Adventure known as A Bug’s Land in order to clear space for the upcoming Marvel-themed section, which will combine with the already existing Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT! attraction.

Disney’s Best New Food & Drinks This Summer

Between bridge trolls, Archie McPhee, the Pike Place Market gum wall and a playground centered around a larger-than-life cowboy hat and boots, Seattle has its share of quirky family attractions. And now, you can add one more item to your family’s unique adventures—ice bumper cars! It’s Tacoma’s latest family attraction and one of just 14 places in the world where you can ride them. Scroll down to learn more about this one-of-a-kind experience.

A New Kind of Ride

If ice bumper cars conjure images of ice hockey, curling or traditional bumper cars—you’re right! They’re quite a mix. They look like colorful oversized hockey pucks with LED lights. And the way they glide, so smoothly across the ice, is similar to a curling stone. Like traditional bumper cars, a driver controls them, although their cushioned bump is less aggressive than a carnival ride. In short, they’re an easy way for families to have fun on the ice with little skill involved. Each car is controlled by two joysticks that are so easy to use even toddlers and preschoolers can get in on the fun. They help you move forward and spin in either direction, in your pursuit of (or escape from) bumps. It doesn’t get easier than that!

Let’s Go for a Spin!

A lot of planning went into bringing the ice bumper cars to Sprinker Recreation Center. One of the priorities was making it a logistically painless experience for families. So rather than waiting around in long lines, riders will reserve time slots so they know exactly when it’s their turn. For their Grand Opening Weekend (May 25-27) reservations for a spot can be made online through Brown Paper Tickets. After opening weekend, families can call in to reserve a session (253-798-4030). Each session is 15 minutes of ride time ($12). But you can add a skate session to your bumper car ride ($19) to give the kids something else to do before and after their slippery adventure. Once you’ve reserved your slot, it’s time to plan the rest of your South Sound adventure!

Beyond the Bumper Cars

After you’ve checked out the bumper cars, and skated a few laps around the ice rink, you can keep the good times rolling at Spanaway Park. The same spot you’ve taken the kids to see Fantasy Lights during the winter holidays looks quite a bit different on a sunny day. And it’s just a quick hop over Military Road to get there (psst…keep your car parked at Sprinker to avoid the parking fee here). The 135-acre park has lots of paved walking trails that run along the lake, perfect for toddlers and strollers. There’s a new playground there, as well, with equipment that will keep both Littles and Bigs busy burning off any leftover energy they have after bumper cars. If the boathouse is open, you can rent paddleboats, rowboats and canoes to take out on the lake for just $10 per hour. Adding a stop here onto your South Sound trip means you can make a full day out of this adventure!

Good Eats

There are a few ways to “food” after you’ve had your fill of bumper cars. You can grab concessions at the rink’s concession stand, which will be open whenever the bumper cars are bumping. Eats from home are also allowed, although food in the rink isn’t. You’ll find plenty of picnic benches or grassy fields to throw down a blanket and enjoy the sunshine around the rec center. And Spanaway Park, just across the road, has even more seating if a change of scenery is what your kiddos need.

Perfect Party Packages

If your kiddo is always on the lookout for an unusual birthday experience, the ice bumper cars certainly fit the bill. Add the ice bumper car experience to either of the existing skate party packages for an easy win. Fully-hosted party packages that include a party room or rinkside seating, food, décor and a special announcement for the birthday kid and 10 friends runs $200. If DIY is more your speed, you can rent a party room and host 10 friends at the skate rink for $150. Ice bumper cars can be added to either of these packages for $12 per person for 15-minutes. It puts a whole new spin on a typical party package.

Good to Know

1. Opening Weekend has extended hours. Riders can book times online for sessions at these dates and times: May 25, 11 a.m.–10 p.m.; May 26, 2 p.m.–8:30 p.m.; May 27 11 a.m.–8 p.m.

2. Kids ages 3-5 ride for free, but they must ride with an adult. Kids who are 6 years old and 42” tall can ride by themselves.

3. Closed toes shoes are a must, so leave your flip-flops at home.

4. It’s an ice rink, so even if the sun is shining, be sure to wear layers to keep you and the kiddos warm.

5. It’s best to arrive 10-15 minutes before load time to make sure you don’t miss your window.

6. Although specific time frames are still TBD, the ice bumper cars will only run for public sessions on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Ah, the beach. Nothing says vacation like a wide expanse of soft sand and the sound of waves crashing on the shore. But with kiddos in tow, sometimes it’s better to have a back-up for those days when doing nothing just won’t do. With miles of marshes and barrier islands to explore in addition to the beach, history around every corner, bike trails, ecotours and more, there’s no better place than Wild Dunes Resort on the coast of South Carolina for your next beach trip base camp. Pssst—It’s less than a 5 hour drive from Atlanta! Keep reading for everything you need to know about this magnificent seaside spot for making memories.

Where to Stay

S. Massey

Wild Dunes Resort rolls over 1,600 acres on the northern end of Isle of Palms, a barrier island with both flat, sandy beaches and easily-accessible marshland to explore. For a shorter stay with full-service concierge hotel accommodations, the Boardwalk Inn at Wild Dunes Resort is a stylish yet comfortable spot with spacious rooms and suites. For apartment-style accommodations with guest rooms and suites (choose from one-, two- and three-bedroom suites and penthouses, all of which are fully furnished and tastefully decorated) designed with family travel in mind, the Village at Wild Dunes Resort is an easy hop, skip, and jump from the Grand Pavilion, pools, and beach access. And if you prefer a beach house, Wild Dunes Resort has plenty. Stay tuned for exciting events surrounding the Grand Opening in early 2021 of a brand new hotel that will have bonus experiential stays (think author weekends and regionally-inspired activities).

Why we love it: Vacation gets a little less shiny when mom has to hit the grocery store, then plan, cook, and clean-up after meals. Wild Dunes Resort offers guests the option to use Red Apron Dinner Delivery—order 48 hours in advance to have ingredients and recipe cards delivered to your doorstep. Ditch the trip to the grocery store altogether and whip up your own restaurant-quality dinners in the comfort of your own home.

The Beach

Wild Dunes Resort

While there are many beach access points throughout Wild Dunes Resort, you’ll find two beach-front pools, the Beachside Burgers & Bar, and chair and umbrella service at the Grand Pavillion. And, as long-time citizens on the island, Wild Dunes Resort is committed to sustainable practices that benefit the natural beauty and unique character of the region. You’ll find that straws are paper (and on-demand), turtle season means an integrated guest education effort (and an exciting partnership with the South Carolina Aquarium), and Hudson's Market—located in the Village at Wild Dunes Resort—is full of seasonally inspired local products.

Good to know: A day at the beach can be carefree at Wild Dunes Resort, with The Surf Shop only steps from the Grand Pavillion (no running across the island to pick up the sunscreen you forgot to throw in your beach bag), plus Duney’s ice cream store that makes convincing the kiddos to leave the beach or pools just a little bit easier.

The Bay

S. Massey

Part of what makes Isle of Palms so unique is that half of it fronts a tidal plain, made up of marshes and a navigable Intracoastal Waterway. If you’d like to spend time on the water and you'd like to explore the unique landscape of the low country, head to the Isle of Palms Marina (about 4 minutes from Wild Dunes Resort, and accessible via the resort shuttle). You’ll find plenty of chartered boat options, but our favorite experience was with a naturalist-led adventure with Barrier Island Eco Tours. You'll experience the barrier islands surrounding Isle of Palms from a different perspective by boat, and you'll pick up tons of information about the unique ecosystem of the marshes, along the way.

Don’t miss: A trip with Captain Stingray of Barrier Island Ecotours includes pulling up crab cages from the marsh to see what might be inside (before releasing them back into the wild), dolphin and loggerhead turtle watching at a spot known as the Shark Hole, and just under two hours of independent exploration on Capers Island, an entirely undeveloped island just teeming with crabs, where you can look for shards of Native American pottery among the shells at Boneyard Beach. Other excursions that can be booked include private family charters, beachside cookouts on a barrier island, and blue crabbing excursions.

Where to Eat

S. Massey

Whether you’re staying at the Boardwalk Inn, the Village, or in a private beach home, you can easily hop on your bikes to arrive at one of the resort’s many dining options. From Billy G’s island Smokehouse that serves up a dose of Goat Island history with its ribs and sandwiches, to Coastal Provisions—the resort’s fine dining experience inside the Boardwalk Inn—you’ll find locally sourced meals, regionally inspired dishes, and a relaxed vibe.

Don’t leave unless you try: At Hudson's Market in the Village at Wild Dunes Resort, the brave at heart (and stomach) have to take a go at the Wild Thing Challenge—a 16 scoop concoction of delicious ice cream that earns its conqueror a t-shirt proclaiming his or her feat.

Nearby Spots to Explore

S. Massey

One of the best reasons to plan your next beach trip to Wild Dunes Resort is its proximity to other areas worth exploring. To truly understand the unique ecosystem of the South Carolina barrier islands, take a trip on the water—kayak tours as well as boat excursions are available—with Barrier Island Eco Tours. You can head to Boneyard Beach on Capers Island to check out the unique formations of sun-bleached (but dead) live oaks dotting the coast. Or, head across the indescribably beautiful Cooper River Bridge to check out Charleston’s incredible history, remarkable homes, and exciting dining options, just about 25 minutes away.

Live like a local: For an unique low country experience, head to Awendaw Green for weekly original music showcases under grand oaks on the grounds of the Sewee Outpost. The Barn Jams happen every Wednesday night of the year and feature a diverse assembly of music from around the globe. Try a wood fired pizza, the grill, or fresh local oysters in season and drink your own libations responsibly for a $5 donation at the door. All ages are welcome, BYOB, keep your pets on a leash, and enjoy the lowcountry vibe at this family-friendly occasion.

When to Go

S. Massey

It’s always a good time to visit Wild Dunes Resort. Families can take advantage of the assortment of activities on property, including family evening Bingo, outdoor movies, educational clinics and more, throughout the year. From approximately June 1st to August 5th, the Dune Bug Club organizes age-specific activities and projects for kids to do—think fort building, astronaut camp, and junior detective whodunnits—while mom and dad play a round of golf, hit the tennis courts, or maybe just take a nap.

Keep in mind: You can count on temperate weather from Easter to Thanksgiving, which makes visiting during a holiday even more appealing. The 4th of July is epic, with live music, a cookout on Village Plaza, games by the pool, craft tents, and other exciting events. At Thanksgiving, be on the lookout for the annual golf cart parade, and enjoy dinner delivered to your residence or head to one of the full-service traditional spreads at the resort. Christmas and Easter are also both punctuated by traditional activities interpreted for your stay at the beach.

Hot dates: Wild Dunes Resort’s “Hot Dates” in May and June for $149 a night can't be beat, and are perfect for a last minute beach trip. Just throw your bathing suits in a bag and head to Isle of Palms; Wild Dunes Resort will take care of the rest. For more details, take a peek here.

A special thanks to Wild Dunes Resort for hosting the trip. All opinions here are the author’s own.

Read on to hear how Codeverse will change the way you look at the traditional classroom and your definition of languages — and where they are expanding to beyond their Lincoln Park location.

What is this Codeverse?
Codeverse opened their first location in summer 2017 in a visually stunning 3,600-square-foot Lincoln Park facility. It’s the world’s first fully interactive coding studio designed for kids ages 6-13 with a rather lofty mission in mind — to teach one billion kids to code using their proprietary language, KidScript. Think of it as a school for learning a vital foreign language the kids of today will definitely need to know in the future: coding.

Having just received $10M in additional funding to support growth, they’ve announced expansion into the Naperville and Wilmette suburbs late fall or early winter 2018. You’re encouraged to join the Naperville and Wilmette waitlists to stay up-to-date on grand opening dates as well as touring and learning opportunities.

What is KidScript?
KidScript is the first-ever programming language designed specifically for kids that’s meant to be a gateway to the languages it borrows from: Ruby, JavaScript, Visual Basic and Python. Kids at the beginning stages of exploring coding can get overwhelmed by some of the complexities associated with mature coding languages, so KidScript is built with easy to read and write syntax that’s simple and intuitive. Other options on the market offer kids a drag-and-drop option for programming, while KidScript actually allows kids to write code which gives them more power to create exactly what they want. And, it’s so straightforward, even a sleep-deprived parent could do it!

Who is behind the creation of Codeverse?
This passion project was started by serial tech entrepreneurs that have launched 12 startups between the three of them: Katy Lynch, former Techweek CEO; Craig Ulliott, Founder of Belly and Facebook’s Where I’ve Been app; and Dave Arel, Cofounder/CTO of Roniin. With the majority of schools not offering computer programming classes, despite a job market that’s begging for skilled professionals, Codeverse’s launch in Chicago, expansion into the suburbs and their planned growth internationally is setting the stage for this to be their legacy company.

What you’ll see in the space
First, your student will check into class using an iPad station at the front desk. Once your kid checks in, one iPad hanging on a wall of iPads will light up with your kid’s name. It then becomes their portal to learning and boundless creativity while they’re at Codeverse. If they’ve been to Codeverse before, it will remember their progress and anything they’ve created previously will be ready and waiting to be developed upon.

The first thing you’ll notice when you walk into the main room is the multiple learning spaces, from a giant cozy couch or beanbag chairs to traditional classroom style seating or hidden coding pods with padding and pillows. Kids can pick the space they feel the most comfortable in and move about freely.

What you may not notice right off the bat is a lot of the things within the space are numbered. Lights, televisions, music speakers . . . that’s because kids will not only learn how to design and build apps and games, they’ll have the ability to control any modern tech gadget within the studio, including all the things we just listed and robotic arms, 20-foot TV, drones, 3D printers and more! Things are numbered so kids can tell the iPad what item they’re trying to control. This means your student can select light number 3, for instance, and turn it from a traditional overhead light to a spinning strobe light worthy of a dance club by making a few changes to the coding language.

What will all this cost me?
A monthly membership is $225 ($175 for a limited time with a 4-month commitment). Each student receives one 75-minute class per week, access to Codeverse at home (which comes in handy because they build their first app on day 1), a personalized, self-adjusting curriculum optimized for their age and skill level, and weekly progress reports sent to you.

Other opportunities to take advantage of Codeverse’s programs
When you hit that part of summer where your kid’s eyes begin to glaze over from lack of educational stimulus, or they have random days and weeks off from school throughout the year, fill the time with Codeverse camp. Kids in grades 1-8 will be treated to full days of fun with KidScript that includes field trips to local technology-centric businesses (the Apple store, for instance) and chef-prepared snacks and lunches. The hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m., but you can drop campers as early as 7 a.m. and pick them up as late as 5:30 p.m.

Besides the camps, Codeverse also collaborates with local school school districts to provide after-school and weekend learning opportunities to work toward their billion-child mission.

Good to Know
They literally thought of everything for these spaces. Should you have a little one who tends to get overstimulated and could benefit from a quiet space, they have a separate room where they can have alone time while they create on their iPad. That space also doubles as a room for nursing moms.

You really do need to see this space in person to understand it’s awesomeness, so if this sounds like something your kid would dig, sign them up to try their first class for free using this link or by calling 844-644-CODE.
