We love this healthy Halloween yogurt bark for oh-so-many reasons: it's a non-dairy snack, is full of fresh fruit, has no added sugar, and can be made in a snap. And then there's this: homemade googly eyes. Trust us, this is the Halloween snack (or breakfast) of champions. Get the recipe over at Fork & Beans.

Pizza dough is the headliner for these cheesy breadstick bones from Kelly Senyei at Just A Taste. The recipe couldn't be easier—especially if you use store-bought dough. For more of a meal try these bone shaped sausage rolls from Tonya Staab. Complete the bone-shaking Halloween look with ketchup or marinara "blood" for dipping!

Erin Clarke of Well Plated

These ghost-shaped boo-nana popsicles are a fun treat the kids will love making as much as eating. Erin Clarke at Well Plated takes the healthy route and dips the banana shapes into vanilla yogurt rather than white chocolate--and you can turn these treats into mummies with a bit of peanut butter, caramel or nut butter and coconut sugar!

Kooky Cut Outs

It's Always Autumn

Sliced cheese and Halloween cookie cutters—it really can't get easier than this. The little ones will grab at a platter of different bread or cheese shapes. Alternatively, add themed cheese slices to an open sandwich like this from It’s Always Autumn and serve with spider-web tomato soup.

The Walking Watermelon

Life Love & Hiccups

We are huge fans of this idea from Life Love & Hiccups, and it's about that time to say goodbye to our favorite summer fruit. Ask your zombies-in-training to lay out the fruity brains before this one hits the table!

Tombstone Toasty

Blush and Basil

Grilled cheese gets gruesome with this Halloween makeover from Brittney at Blush and Basil. As easy as it is tasty, just add RIP in ketchup and serve with tomato soup. It's a dead cert the kids will love it.

Foodlets

Send those little taste buds flying with these crafty broomstick bites. Making them couldn't be easier—get tips from Charity at Foodlets. The Old Towne Orange Haunted History Ghost walk dives into the not-so-glamorous past of Orange Plaza and explores haunted destinations like the Chapman Antique Mall, the Royer Mansion, and Rutabegorz Restaurant. The Santa Ana Haunted History Ghost Walk tells tales of murder and execution, and takes guests into the city’s most haunted homes, the Howe-Waffle Victorian Mansion. The San Juan Capistrano Ghost Walk explores the streets of Los Rios where restless spirits wander and learn about the tragic 1812 earthquake that crushed 42 people to death with falling stone as they sat in church. The Ghost Walks are all led by experienced local historians, and while the walks are offered year-round, it’s a little more fun when Halloween is around the corner.

I know people wax nostalgic about being young in the summertime, but I’ve long believed there’s no better time of the year to be a kid than the fall. I mean, dressing up in costumes? Throwing pumpkins? Getting lost in mazes? All the sugary treats? How can that not appeal to all kids, big and small? Below is our annual round-up of 50 distinctly fall things to do in Denver with kids in 2019. (Plus, a few more that admittedly have nothing to do with fall, but are totally worth checking out!)

  1. Take a leaf-crunching family hike on a local trail.
  2. Order a caramel apple-making kit from Denver-based Daffy Apples.
  3. Peep at the changing Aspen colors with a mountain day trip.
  4. Cheer on the Broncos at Mile High
  5. or the Buffs at Folsom Field
  6. or the Rams at Canvas Stadium.
  7. Reserve a time to pick your own apples through October. (Tip: Apples ripen late July through mid-October. Be sure to reserve ASAP…slots fill up quickly!)
  8. Attend a fun fall-themed class with your kids at the Children’s Museum of Denver…like the fall cooking challenge. (Tip: You must register in advance and many classes sell out.)
  9. Forget the PSL. Order up a more traditional hot spiced cider from one of Denver’s local coffee shops.
  10. Take your littlest littles for A Day Out with Thomas the Train at the Colorado Railroad Museum on the first three September weekends.
  11. Take in the 32nd annual Downtown Boulder Fall Fest on September 13, 14 and 15.
  12. Encourage a love for music at the Annual Sunnyside Music Fest on September 14.
  13. Bond at the Extreme Sports interactive exhibit at the Museum of Nature and Science. September 20 is set aside for families to explore the temporary exhibit together.
  14. Enjoy Oktoberfest in downtown Denver the last two September weekends (20-22 and 27-29).
  15. Explore life in the time of dinosaurs at Jurassic Quest at Denver Convention Center (September 20-22).

  18. Drive up to Estes Park for Autumn Gold Festival on September 21-22.
  19. Get lost in the family-friendly Maize in the City in Thornton (opens September 27) with a big maize (40 minutes or so) and a little maize (25 minutes or so), and other fun activities. This one even offers a smart phone trivia game to gives hints to those of us who are directionally challenged.
  20. Get scared at Elitch Gardens’ Fright Fest every weekend with Halloween-themed Family by Day activities and scarier Fright by Night fun (Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays September 27 through November 2).

  22. Show off your best bugle call at the Estes Park Elk Fest (September 28 – 29).
  23. Pick your own pumpkin at the huge pumpkin patches at Rock Creek Farm in Broomfield. (Tip: Plan to stay after to explore the farm, corn maze and kids’ activities because your kids will whine like crazy if you don’t. Also, the line may be long to get in.) Opening day is September 29.

If summer left you with 2,463 popsicle sticks stuffed into gallon-size freezer bags courtesy of a twice-a-day fudge-sicle habit, you’re in luck. Popsicle sticks are a kid crafters dream, especially during this time of the year—there are a ton of fun Halloween-themed projects that require them. Here are eight that will make you and the fam wish you’d eaten even more ice cream bars.

photo: Glued to My Crafts

Witch-full Thinking
Looking for an easy activity for the under-eight set to have fun with at the next Halloween party? This is it! Stacey from Glued to My Crafts made these in minutes with a little black paint, card stock, ribbon, and (of course) popsicle sticks. P.S. These would make adorable magnets, too!

photo: Frugal Fun 4 Boys

Candy Catapult
This contraption, spotted over at Frugal Fun 4 Boys, was created by blogger Sarah and her four boys (and one girl). The goal? Find something fun to do with extra Halloween candy that would not be eaten. The catapult itself is made from popsicle sticks, rubber bands, and a plastic spoon. Kids enjoy building the launcher just as much as they do using it.

photo: Buggy and Buddy

The Itsy Bitsy Spider (Web!)
An oldie but goodie, you probably made these adorable little spiderwebs when you were in elementary school. If not, here’s your chance! All you’re doing is wrapping the yarn around the sticks in a web pattern. This Buggy and Buddy interpretation uses painted sticks for a modern vibe.

photo: Pinning for Purpose

Puzzle Play
Make and put together your puzzle? That’s one way to keep antsy kids busy. Kristin, a mother of three and the blogger behind Pinning with Purpose, shares this simple (and fun) craft for popsicle stick puzzles. It’s beyond simple: just glue popsicle sticks onto the back side of a Halloween theme-template, then trim! Download the free templates and get more how-to deets over at Pinning with Purpose.

photo: Crafts by Amanda

Mummy Dearest
Technically, Amanda of Crafts by Amanda wanted these kid-friendly puppets to resemble mummies. But when they were done, they also looked like little mini ninjas. Whichever direction you go in, these party crafts–made with sticks, googly eyes, and felt fabric–will be a hit at your next classroom or home shindig.

photo: Momerish

On the Fence
These Momerish mini pumpkins win the “Majorly Cute” award! Who knew that with just a handful of orange pompoms, some googly eyes, and a popsicle stick fence you could create an entire tot performance. Your little one will love getting into the spirit by singing along with you to the “Five Little Pumpkins” song.

photo: Live Craft Love

Monster Mash
This is one monster you won’t want to be afraid of because you’ll want to display it someplace where you can see it all the time. Start by painting and drying the sticks. Then, glue a handful of them into a square shape and let your tot decorate the face to their heart’s content. Additional details and info can be found at Live Craft Love.

photo: The Lolly Project

Top It Off
Très chic Halloween cake toppers have never been so simple to create. If free hand isn’t your jam, take a cue from The Lolly Project by tracing a few Halloween cut outs. Next, glue them to the popsicle sticks and voilà!
Do you know of a cool Halloween craft project we can try? Tell us about it into the comments below.
