If you are looking for a laugh, a Los Angeles dad may have the answer for you. Dave Carlson, created Laughter Line, a phone number you can call to hear his family laugh. Then, feel free to leave your laugh after the beep.

Now that families are stuck in the house and on devices or in front of screens all day, it’s nice to pepper in some old-school experiences such as a phone number and an answering machine. This is his way of helping everyone smile during difficult times and even show how fast laughter can spread.

The map below highlights the areas where Carlson has received phone calls from so far.

Dad laugh line

Even though he created the line years ago, due to the current situation it seemed like the perfect opportunity to prove how powerful laughter can be.

Carlson said, “I think we can all share a little joy right now. My kids’ favorite part of the day is sitting down and listening to all the laughing voicemails people have left from all over the world.”

Stuck at Home? The Story Pirates Have Ideas to Keep Your Kids Entertained

Sing These Songs While Washing Your Hands

Over the past few days, parents, teachers and celebrities are coming up with hacks and catchy songs to get kids washing their hands. Washing your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water is the number one recommended way to help prevent the spread of coronavirus. On her Instagram, Kristen Bell shared how the “pepper trick” can show kids the importance of hand washing.

Bell captioned her post, “Such an amazing way to teach kids (and the rest of us adults) the importance of washing our hands.” She also implored parents to tag someone else in order to get the message to as many parents as possible.

The video originates from preschool teacher, Amanda Lorenzo. In the video, Lorenzo has one of her students dip their fingertip into a bowl of water containing pepper (the virus) and the pepper does not move and instead clings to the child’s finger. Next, she has the child dip their finger into a bowl filled with liquid soap before putting their finger into the pepper filled water. This time, the pepper in the water moves far away from the soapy finger.

Check out the tips below and plus a couple of lavish recipes, using simple techniques, so that everyone (including you, the host!) can enjoy.

1. Stay Seasonal: Fall is one of my favorite times to cook! Food that’s flavorful with the mixture of spices and reminds us of hearty comfort food. Everyone should visit their local farmer’s market and learn what items are featured each week.

2. Try New Spices and Seasonings: Try new seasoning blends. The use of spice blends enhances the flavors of chicken, pork, lamb, beef, seafood, and vegetables. The Rondeno Spice Collection would be a great addition to your pantry!

3. Research New Recipes: Oftentimes we find ourselves in a cooking funk, often asking, “How can we keep it interesting in the family kitchen?” Use recipe Apps, videos, and articles to learn and try new recipes. Cooking classes and social media cooking groups are other options to be engaged and learn from people around the world.

4. Follow Cooking Trends: Following cooking trends allows you to be consumed with what’s relevant on the dinner table. Whether it’s avocado toast, toast, BBQ, seafood boils, or even becoming a vegetarian, trends keep the dinner table interesting and you’ll become a better cook in the process.

5. Make Your Dinner Interactive: Cooking together is significantly important in the family. Tacos, making fresh pasta, cupcakes, cookies are some examples of interactive cooking. Parents should allow each member of the family to take the lead of cooking dinner too! As parents, you have an opportunity to pass on your family culture through stories and food.

Along with the new name, Blue’s Clues and You comes with a host who (according to the show’s backstory) is former faves Steve and Joe’s cousin. Josh, who is played by Broadway actor Joshua Dela Cruz, brings the world of the playful pup to an entirely new audience.

Are you one of those people who shops the aisles of Trader Joe’s once a week, maybe more? Even though you might be there on the daily, we were totally blown away by this Trader Joe’s shopping hack that’s been hiding in plain sight this whole time.

Reportedly, if you look on the shelf immediately above the frozen food cases you’ll find condiments to match the items below. In other words, the french fries are conveniently located below the ketchup and the enchilada sauce is above the enchiladas. Um, what?!

Next time you head to Trader Joe’s, look up when you hit the frozen pizzas and you might just find plenty of parmesan and pepper flakes. Not only does the perfect case-to-shelf pairing save you a trip to another aisle, it also provides add-on idea awesomeness! It’s all part of Trader Joe’s master plan to get you to buy all the things every time you shop there.

While this matchy-matchy grocery hack is true for some stores, we can’t confirm that it works at every TJ’s across the country. If your Trader Joe’s doesn’t do the frozen food and condiment pairing thing, don’t stress. Sure, you’ll need to take a trip to another aisle to complete your shopping list. But then again, there are worse things than spending a few extra minutes searching for fab foodie finds!

And of course, you could always email your local TJ’s to request the update, too; it apparently works wonders when your fave items are out of stock at Trader Joe’s, according to one insider.

High on protein and low on carbs, these Paleo Egg Muffins from food blogger Rebecca of MyNaturalFamily.com are great for a morning pick-me-up or after school snack. Rebecca says that the muffins keep well so eat them fresh or store in the fridge for later. Tell us in the Comments below what your kids think of these bite-sized treats.

Makes 12 muffins

Ingredients:
8 oz. pork breakfast sausage
1 Tbsp olive oil
1/2 sweet onion thinly sliced
3/4 Cup bell pepper chopped or thinly sliced (any color)
1 1/2 Cup spinach (packaged)
1 tsp fresh oregano chopped or ½ t. dry oregano
9 eggs
1 Dash pepper
3/4 tsp salt
1/4 Cup coconut or almond milk

Method:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a muffin tin.

2. Place the ground sausage in a sauté pan and heat on medium high. Break up the ground sausage into crumbles with a spatula as it cooks.

3. When the sausage is half way cooked, add 1 T. of olive oil, onions, peppers, and oregano to the pan. Saute until the onion is translucent.

4. Add the spinach to the pan and cover with a lid. Cook for 30 seconds, remove the lid and toss the ingredients. Spinach should be wilted but still bright green. Remove from heat.

5. Place the eggs in a large mixing bowl along with the pepper, salt, and milk. Whisk together until eggs are well beaten.

6. Add the sausage and vegetables to the egg mixture and mix in until well distributed.

7. Divide the mixture between the greased muffin tins(12 total), making sure that each tin has a somewhat equal ratio of eggs/fillings.

8. Bake in preheated oven for 18-20 minutes. Cool for a few minutes and remove from tins, loosening the edges first with a knife.

What did your kids think of these treats? Do make Paleo dishes in your house?
