If your family has a passion for sneakers and LEGOs, the following news will make your day. The LEGO Group just announced two exciting drops that combine the best of both worlds: an actual sneaker that’s emulates the look of LEGO bricks and a brick sneaker that you can build and display proudly with the rest of your collection.

First up, the adidas Originals LEGO Superstar sneaker. It will be available in both kid and adult sizes and will likely make people do a double take when it’s on your feet. Purposefully styled to mirror the LEGO brick pattern, it also features the classic adidas black and white leather and three stripes. Don’t forget the gold foil accents! You can buy it as part of the adidas x LEGO collection on July 1.

Want to take it as step further? You’ll also be able to buy a set to make your own adidas shoe out of bricks! The LEGO adidas Originals Superstar 10282 model is life-sized and features the iconic sneaker graphics and branding. It includes 17 extra elements so you can decide if your brick footwear is right or left-footed. It even comes with shoelaces and an authentic shoe box, so we don’t blame you if you try to slip it on. You can find this model exclusively online starting July 1 for $80.

LEGO also has some great ideas for customizing your brick sneaker (spoiler alert, many bricks you own currently can be added on). The company is constantly innovating and we can’t wait to see what comes out next!

From the sand toys to the snacks, a family day at the beach inevitably means lugging around a ton of gear. That sandy trek is about to get easier, however, thanks to this incredible all-in-one beach chair wagon.

The convertible chair from Mac Sports is cooler than any Transformer in your toy box. It’s a two-in-one beach chair and wagon combo that give you a hand carrying all your beach accessories across the sand and then gives you a comfy spot to rest after.

The wagon chair is equipped with wide tires so it can roll smoothly across the sand, unlike those narrow stroller wheels. It can carry up to 100 pounds so you can toss in everything but the kitchen sink (or maybe that too).

The chair features a head rest, in case you actually find a minute to lounge between building sandcastles and chasing waves. You can score this incredible find on Amazon for $107.40.

Calling all Muggles! Universal Studios has made a big announcement: hot Butterbeer can now be enjoyed the entire year long.

Prior to the happy news, which Universal Studios Orlando made on Twitter, fans of the butterscotchy-drink were only privy to it during the cold, winter months. Now it doesn’t take a drizzle to get your hands on a steaming cup of the novel-worthy beverage.

If you can’t fathom enjoying the hot drink on an equally hot day, you can still enjoy the rest of The Wizard World of Harry Potter’s other treats. Cool off with a cold or frozen Butterbeer, and then top it off with some Butterbeer soft serve.

There’s only one catch: so far, only the Orlando theme park has made the announcement. That means, you can currently only snag a cup of hot Butterbeer if you head to Florida!

The haiku is an uncomplicated form of poetry that kids will take to with natural skill. This traditional Japanese verse is just three lines. All you need is to remember that and the 5-7-5 rule. Read on for the how-to.

photo: cegoh via pixabay

Here’s the basic structure of the haiku:

1st line: 5 syllables
2nd line: 7 syllables
3rd line: 5 syllables

The biggest challenge is teaching them the difference between words and syllables and helping them count it out if they need it. Kids can count on their fingers as they try and figure out the perfect way to say it with words. Here’s an example:

1st verse:
It is ice cream time (5)

2nd verse:
Serve it in a cup or cone (7)

3rd verse:
Ice cream time is here (5)

More examples:

Ride your tricycle
It is red and has a bell
Take it to the street

Mom is tired now
But soon she will rise again
No rest for mommy

Sometimes we all need to rest our weary head, take pause and simply sit for a moment.

It may not look pretty. We may look a mess. But, we are doing exactly what we are meant to do, at that moment.

Some days we truly need to rest our weary head.

Maybe we are in overdrive due to not being able to shut down thoughts, which perseverate through our mind, day after day, and the stress taking hold, causing feelings of isolation…but it’s okay to rest your weary head.

Maybe it’s taking on too much as a Mom and attempting to be everything to everyone, answering what feels like hundreds of questions daily, while our name is being called over and over again…but it’s okay to rest your weary head.

Maybe it’s the balance of work, friends, family, and everyday stressors taking over and suffocating who you are as an individual woman…but it’s okay to rest your weary head.

It’s okay to say no.

It’s okay to take a break.

It’s okay to feel overwhelmed even when trying your best to keep life moving forward with positivity.

So friends, no matter what is weighing heavy on your heart and no matter what is weighing you down, know this to be true:

It’s okay to take a pause and do what is meant for you at that moment.

Not what is meant for your friend. Not what is meant for your mother. Not what is meant for your neighbor and not what is meant for your sister.

You. Do what is right for you.

Do you need a break away?

Do you need ten minutes alone to regroup?

Whatever it may be, acknowledge what you need and give yourself permission to lay down your head, take a deep breath and move forward along your journey.

Your soul will thank you for the respite.

It’s okay mama to rest your weary head.

There’s so much to love about multigenerational travel with your extended family. It’s a time when grandparents and grandkids can bond, parents can get the occasional break, and everyone can explore the world together all while on a family vacation.

There are also some specific challenges that come from family trips that include older and younger family members in the same group, though. And sandwich-generation parents would do well to adjust expectations when it comes to traveling with older relatives and children. With COVID-19 vaccines soon to be widely available in the U.S., more and more multigenerational families will finally be able to take a long-awaited trip together again. If that includes your family, here are four key secrets for traveling with grandparents. Ignore them at your peril.

1. Work with Different Ages & Different Interests.
It’s okay that your kids’ and your parents’ interests don’t align perfectly. On a well-balanced family vacation, there’s room for smaller groups of people to break off and do the things that interest them. That’s a long way of saying: Don’t make your toddler sit through the three-hour meal your parents have booked at a nice restaurant (it’s going to disappoint everyone), and don’t force your parents to spend the day horseback riding at a dude ranch (unless they want to, in which case, they are heroes). The point isn’t to do everything together, it’s to be able to come back together as a whole family for quality time and fun activities that suit the whole crowd, from young children to teens to adults.

2. Respect Individual Needs. Some people need naps (both young and old). Some simply can’t walk for miles (again, both young and old). Others just need a little downtime now and then to recharge and read a good book. There are all sorts of physical limitations that kids, especially young kids, and grandparents, particularly older grandparents, bring with them on a multigenerational trip. To expect everyone to keep up with the fittest members of the family is unrealistic. Instead, cut everyone some slack when it’s time for group activities and aim for the achievable. Your entire family will be happier.

3. Embrace a Slower Pace. The little ones and oldest members of your extended family tend to need a little more time to recharge than the rest of us. Rather than seeing that as a burden, think about it as a lesson for us all to slow down and enjoy a little more unstructured, unscheduled vacation time. Not only will you make room for everyone to be on their best behavior the rest of the time, but you also create opportunities for spontaneous connection that come out of being relaxed, on vacation, and with the people you love.

4. Choose a Trip the Entire Family Will Love. Some family-friendly destinations are custom-made for multigenerational travel. We’re looking at you, national parks, and national park lodges. You too, Walt Disney World. And don’t forget a family-friendly cruise ship, or all-inclusive resorts—especially resorts with a kids club.

Look for destinations that not only cater to families with little ones but ones that offer something for the entire family—from young children and teenagers to parents and grandparents (not to mention aunts and uncles on an extended family vacation). In other words, think of it this way—a multigenerational family vacation is a lot like real estate: location matters. A lot.

Your Easter basket usually consists of chocolate eggs, Peeps and candy galore. This year make a new sweet tradition with these Lemon Macaroon Chicks courtesy of FoodNetwork.com. The easy recipe requires only six ingredients and will be a hit with all your little chicks on Easter Sunday.

Total Time: 55 min
Prep: 30 min
Inactive: 5 min
Cook: 20 min
Yield: about 30 chicks
Level: Easy

Ingredients:
One 14-ounce bag sweetened coconut flakes
1/4 cup prepared lemon curd
4 large egg whites
Pinch fine salt
15 small orange and/or yellow jelly beans
60 mini chocolate chips (about 2 tablespoons)

Method:
1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

2. Combine the coconut, lemon curd, egg whites and salt with a spatula in a medium bowl until a uniform consistency.

3. Roll generous tablespoons of the mixture into egg shapes, setting them big-side down onto the prepared baking sheets. Repeat with the rest of the mix. Bake until the bottom and a few of the coconut frays turn deep golden brown, about 20 minutes.

4. Meanwhile, cut the jelly beans in half lengthwise and set aside.

5. Remove the macaroons from the oven and let them cool enough to handle, but are still warm, about 5 minutes.

6. Take one of the jelly bean halves and pinch an end to make a pointed beak. Hold the point, shiny-side up, and push the rounded end into the side of a macaroon. Push 2 mini chocolate chips, peak-side in, into the macaroon on either side of the beak for eyes. Repeat with the rest of the macaroons and serve.

To the mom going through a diagnosis during a global pandemic, I know right now your world feels like you’re walking a new planet. It feels scary, isolating, and so lonely.

It feels like you’re drowning in the depths of the biggest oceans, gasping for air each time you come up to the surface, only to be pulled right back down by its powerful current. Screaming for help each time you reach to the surface, only to see there is no life raft in sight. There is no help coming, there is no one to rescue you. The extensive waitlists, the endless amount of phone calls with no responses for weeks on end, and don’t get me started with the amount of hours on Zoom.

I promise you are not alone. You see, my son Kanen is almost 3 years old. He has the biggest brown eyes that light up like the Aurora Borealis anytime a truck, plane, or bus passes by. He has a smile that shines as bright as a full moon on a dark and cold winter night. He also was diagnosed with severe, non-verbal autism in September of 2020. Going through the diagnosis process at any point in life is not for the weak hearted, but especially not during a global pandemic. While others are fighting for toilet paper off the shelves, and others are angry that their travel plans have come to halt, our worries become much bigger, and yet feel so little to the rest of the world. One day, we went from mom’s chasing our children on the playground, to the next day becoming camerawoman for what feels like a reality TV show. But instead shooting MTV’s next biggest show of rowdy 20 year olds living in one house, we’re chasing children around our homes using our computers and phones, praying that the person on the other side can get an appropriate evaluation. Hoping that they’ll catch a glimpse of all the hard we witness everyday. The hard that lead us to this point in our life, seeking a diagnosis.

One might assume after a diagnosis that your days of being camerawomen would be over, but in all honesty they might have just began. Thearpy that was once in person is now all via Zoom. For most of us, we don’t have the option of in person or Telehealth. We are given what we are given, and are expected to not throw a fit.  At first you are going to ask yourself more than you want to admit if you’re capable of this. If you are capable of not only being your child’s mother, but their teacher, their therapist, their advocate, and most importantly their camerawoman.

I want to let you know you are capable, you are the only one who is. You will learn through this journey that you are your child’s person, you are their safe space. When their world feels too overwhelming and chaotic, only you mama will know how to center them. And you might learn along the way they are all that for you to, and even more. You will become a jack of all trades, master of none, but better than one.

I never imagined a time in my life where I would be seeking a diagnosis for my only son during a pandemic, but I’m thankful I did. I’m thankful I didn’t give up when I felt like the rest of the world was. When the rest of the world was giving up on the services he most needed, I didn’t. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy, but now a year into this, I promise it does get better because you mama will become stronger through the process. You will find a strength in you no others before or after us will ever experience, because we have faced a global pandemic while fighting for a diagnosis for our child and all the services they need after. Wear that badge of honor with pride! I want to remind you that you are never alone I see you, I hear you, and I’ll always be here to throw a life raft whenever you need it.

With love,

A fellow Mom
