In a poll conducted by Mumsnet, nearly one in five mothers admit they feel “namer’s remorse,” and would name their child something new if given the chance. Nearly a third of those moms say they knew in the baby’s first six weeks that the name wasn’t working out.

The main reason for regretting the name was that it was too commonly used (25%). Names most frequently regretted were Charlotte, Amelia, Anne, Daniel, Jacob, James and Thomas.

Over a fifth of the mothers said “It just doesn’t feel right.” 20% of moms said they have never liked the name, and pressured into using it.

11% say “it’s not distinctive enough,” another 11% said there are problems with spelling/pronunciation. A further 11% said that the name just doesn’t suit their child.
