The Goods Mart

If the dad in your life is gluten-free, treat him to a custom Snack Box from The Goods Mart in Soho and watch him go crazy for the curated selection of non-GMO treats such as Pam’s Mushroom Jerky, Karma Nuts and Siete Grain-Free Tortilla Chips. Food is the lifeblood of our mind, body, and spirit,” says Rachel Krupa, founder. “The gift of healthy snacks creates a moment and a memory that will spark a smile.” This is a feel-good gift as well as the company is currently donating snack boxes to Memorial Sloan Kettering, NYU Langone, and Mount Sinai, as well as a handful of other hospitals in New York, Queens, and the Bronx. The company is also donating food to those that need it through the Food Bank For New York and donating 10% of snack box sales to the Restaurant Worker’s Relief Foundation.

Krupa quickly responded and with the support and help from the local community so that she can stay open to continue to support healthcare workers and provide goods to neighbors and essential workers. To add life back to her block, Krupa asked Muralists' Eric Friedensohn (@efdot@muralists) and Jessie Mordine Young (@jessiemordine), for help and they donated their time and created a uplifting and positive mural reading “Look Out For Each Other” for the boarded up storefront.

Pantry Staple Recipes for When the Fridge Is Empty

One of the familiar challenges of planning a family vacation is finding a place where everyone can relax, enjoy themselves, and have fun. (Including you, the parent.) Nassau, Bahamas’ Baha Mar resort is a sophisticated tropical vacation destination that really does have something for everyone, from incredible kid’s pools and activities, to spots where parents can do grown-up things. And of course, lots of places where you can all chill out and have fun together. We checked it out—here’s our report!

photo: SLS Baha Mar

Closer Than You Think

The picture postcard tropical vacation with crystal blue waters and gorgeous beaches is not as far away as you might imagine. (From NYC, the flight is less than three hours.)

Perhaps the best news? Touch down and you’re essentially there; hop in the SLS shuttle for a 10-minute drive to the resort.

photo: SLS/Baha Mar

Many Choices, All Good

As mentioned, at Baha Mar, you’ve got options, and that includes where to stay. The resort is home to three hotels: The Grand Hyatt, luxury property Rosewood, and the contemporary and comfortable SLS Baha Mar (pictured above)—all of which have access to the resort’s amenities. We stayed at SLS, and loved its combination of chic surroundings, thoughtful design (charging ports, and lighting controls next to the bed FTW), and superior yet warm and welcoming service.

If you’re looking to have an extended stay, or one with a large group, stylish residence suites make it easy, with a spacious living room, equipped kitchens, two bathrooms, a washer/dryer, and dreamy beds. You can even have the kitchen stocked with essentials for you before your arrival.

While Baha Mar itself is large, with three hotels, numerous restaurants, shopping, and even a casino, it does not feel overwhelming. (We weren’t there during high season, but it also did not feel crowded.) The resort is also well-designed in that somehow, no matter where you are, it doesn’t take long to get somewhere else—your hotel room, the beach, a pool on the other side of the property, etc.

photo: Mimi O’Connor

Fun in the Sun, Poolside

If your idea of a vacation is relaxing by the pools, you’re in luck: there are an incredible 11 pools on site at Baha Mar, each with its own vibe and target audience.

Kids (and kids at heart) flip for “Dean’s Blue Hole”—named for the popular Bahamian snorkeling scuba diving destination—home to two “cliffs” for jumping into the pool, as well as The Grotto, where you can get an underwater view of schools of fish, sea turtles, nurse sharks and stingrays through an aquarium-style wall of glass. Also here is a very kid-friendly pool of varying depths, and bar for drinks and light bites.

But that’s really the tip of the tropical iceberg. Other options include “Drift”, with a wade-in pool that increases in depth gradually, cool platforms with rain shower walls at the touch of a button, and private cabanas available for rental. From SLS, you can roll right into “Bungalow”, a deeper pool with a Mediterranean feel; the raucous pool is “Privilege”, where the tunes are loud and the floats oversized, while other pools in the resort offer a more tranquil experience.

photo: Mimi O’Connor

Fun in the Sun, Seaside

Steps from the pools is the clean, white-sand Cable Beach, where you’ll find clear blue, temperate waters. Take a walk on the pier, relax on lounge chairs under beach umbrellas, then take advantage of the free water fun accessories such as snorkeling gear, kayaks, water hammocks, and more. (Pro tip: it’s first come, first served, so get there early.)

photo: Mimi O’Connor

Just for the Kids

Aside from the considerable fun kids can have at the pools and the beach, Baha Mar also offers kid’s programming dubbed the “Explorers Club,” for children ages three to 12. Activities with engaged and experienced staffers include arts and crafts, wildlife encounters, games, movie nights, and more.

There are three sessions per day, morning, afternoon, and evening and cost $55. In-room babysitting services can also be booked. (Deal alert: the Explorers Club daytime sessions include a visit to the resort’s BEACH Sanctuary, home to various aquatic life, an experience that is $65 if booked separately.)

photo: Mimi O’Connor

Sea Creatures Up Close

One of the crown jewels of Baha Mar is the BEACH Sanctuary, home to nurse sharks, stingrays, sea turtles, and tropical fish. (The Grotto provides an underwater view of the habitat.) Guests can tour the facility during feeding times twice daily for free, or book a one-on-one interactive experience with the marine life.

photo: Mimi O’Connor

Feathered Friends

In addition to sea creatures, you’ll also find lots of birds at Baha Mar. Step into The Aviary and make new friends instantly as the resident birds literally come and eat out of your hand. ($10 per food serving.)

The head over to Flamingo Cay, where the Baha Mar flock of pink birds resides. Don’t miss the Flamingo Parade, a free happening held twice daily by the resort’s Chief Flamingo Officer.

photo: Mimi O’Connor

Grown-Up Time

Baha Mar is also a spot where you and your partner can have some adult fun as well.  Pick your pleasure: a treatment at spa ESPA; cocktail hour at the SLS rooftop spot Skybar (pictured), or gaming at the casino, which is not only the largest casino in the Bahamas, it’s got windows.

If you golf, there’s par-72 course designed by famed linksman Jack Nicklaus himself, and if you’d like to pick up a little something for yourself, you can swing by one of the resort’s shops, which include everything from Tiffany & Co. and Cartier to MAC, Lily Pulitzer, and local retailers.

photo: Mimi O’Connor

Food & Drink

As with everything else, there are many options for food here. While none of it is a bargain (guac and chips with a glass of wine will set you back $40), everything we ate was a cut above. And, great news: every restaurant has a kid’s menu.

For coffee and quick bites on the go, try French spot Cafe Madeleine or Starbucks. Casual by- and on-the-beach food can be grabbed at various airstream trailers (so cute) and stands by the shore; choices include Umami Burger, beachside Mexican, poke bowls, pan-latin cuisine, and more.

In addition to a noodle bar and gastropub, Baha Mar also features numerous “destination dining” restaurants, many outposts of celebrated chefs. A sampling includes steakhouse Carna by Dario Cecchini, and Italian eatery Fi’lia (where you can book an experience with the kids to make your own pizza). Just off the lobby of the SLS hotel is Cleo Mediterraneo, which not only serves tasty Mediterranean cuisine inside and out on a patio area overlooking the pool, it’s also where you can feast on one of the best breakfast buffets we’ve ever encountered. (Be sure to sample the bread pudding.) Heads up: kids five and under eat free at all SLS restaurants this summer.

The Palm

The Palm via Yelp

Pair Spyscape—an immersive spy museum that will most definitely appeal to the older kids in your life that’s just a little bit away from the Times Square hubbub—with a luxe meal at The Palm. Established in 1926, this is one steak restaurant that won’t look askance at your pack of kids walking in for lunch or dinner. Not only is sharing encouraged (and there’s no fee for asking for extra plates) at this warm and welcoming restaurant right off Eighth Avenue but there’s a wider-ranging kids menu than we’ve seen at other steakhouses (where else have you seen a filet n’ fries (a four-ounce filet with French fries or green beans) on a kids menu? Just whatever you do, save room for a bag of warm doughnuts. Not only do they come dusted with cinnamon sugar, but they’re served with chocolate and raspberry sauce for maximum dipping.

But Wait, There's More

City Kitchen

None of those fit the bill?

Try the second floor food hall City Kitchen, (above) which offers something for everyone, from ramen to lobster rolls to to-die-for doughnuts.

Or Shake Shack, to indulge in a city favorite.

For a time warp to Victorian times, head to Lillie's on 49th Street (where we recommend the brunch)

Or hit up Junior's (of Brooklyn fame) now serving up classic diner food and giant cheesecake also in Times Square.

Got a family of pasta lovers? Head to Becco, where you can enjoy an unlimited amount of executive chef William Gallagher's three pasta creations, served tableside for $20.95 at lunch with salad and antipasto. (Dinner is $25.95).

Raven and Rose
For a meal steeped in history head for one of Portland’s most celebrated restaurants the Raven and Rose. Housed in a beautifully restored historic landmark, the 1883 Ladd Carriage House, the Raven and Rose prides itself on authenticity and innovation and not just in the architecture, their menu has received rave reviews from such heavy hitters as the New York Times and Food and Wine Magazine. Breakfast and lunch offer the widest selection of Irish fare, ranging from steel cut oats to shepherd’s pie (and even rabbit!).

Not to be outdone, Paddy’s Bar and Grill, also located in downtown Portland has been serving Irish fare for over 35 years from inside the historic 1878 Powers Building. They serve a variety of pub grub with an Irish slant (Irish Nachos anyone?) in addition to kid-favorites like mac and cheese. On St. Patrick’s Day this year they will host a tented street party with live music and an attempt to reclaim their 2011 Guinness Book of World Records title for the World’s Largest Irish Coffee. Kids are welcome until 6 pm.

With an all-Irish menu right down to the brussels sprouts and Irish-cut fries, it’s a classic slice of Ireland using all locally-sourced ingredients, at an affordable price. Little ones welcome until 10 p.m.

The Leaky Roof bills itself as a gastropub where high-end dining meets neighborhood comfortable, but their generous happy hour menu and kid’s offerings make this still an affordable choice. And since this modest Goose Hollow institution has been serving some of the best corned-beef and stews in the area since 1947, it’s a can’t-miss of Portland cuisine. For a tasty twist on an old favorite that will please the whole family try their Irish Benedict!

If pristine white-sand beaches, a vibrant culinary scene and activities galore sound like the perfect recipe for your family’s next vacay, look no further than Sarasota. Located on the southwestern coast of Florida, Sarasota is one of Florida’s primary Gulf Coast cities that offers a little something for everyone and warm, year-round temps—making it the ideal destination for fun and sun any time of the year. We recently visited Sarasota and have all the details on where to stay, where to play and where to dine while visiting this slice of paradise. Scroll down to learn more!

Location, Location, Location!
Located about an hour south of Tampa and just north of Fort Myers, Sarasota County consists of Longboat Key, Lakewood Ranch, the city of Sarasota, Kido Key, Siesta Key, Osprey, Casey Key, Laurel, Nokomis, Venice, North Port, Englewood and Manasota Key. Together, they make up six barrier islands (each with their own vibe) and more than 35 miles of beaches. Those who might’ve visited grandparents in Sarasota back in the day will be shocked to find a whole new Gulf Coast city full of vitality, growth and abundant activities and experiences.

The Perfect Family Resort with Luxury Amenities & Five-Star Accommodations
Finding a luxury resort property that is also family friendly can come with many challenges. But The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota totally hits the mark by offering a sophisticated yet casual Gulf Coast vibe along with impeccable service, sophisticated surroundings, top-notch cuisine and activities and experiences for all ages. Book a Bay View Suite and take in the breathtaking views of Sarasota Bay and gorgeous Gulf of Mexico sunsets on the private balcony and enjoy the room’s spacious, beachy vibe that draws inspiration from the seashore.

In addition to access to a championship 18-hole golf course, a state-of-the-art fitness center, full-service salon and spa, large heated swimming pool and whirlpool and water activities on Sarasota Bay (think: stand up paddle boarding and canoeing), kids will find ping pong, air hockey, video games, billiards and foosball at the Cove located on the resort’s pool level. Kids can also check out board games at the Concierge Desk and participate in the resort’s Ritz Kids program which offers a variety of special services and vacation activities based on the program’s four pillars: water, land, environmental responsibility and culture. From learning about coral reefs and forests, to enjoying storytelling, art and food, kids will find a plethora of activities to make their stay at The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota one for the books. Psst…the resort is known for serving special treats in its lobby like a complimentary s’mores bar with hot ganache. Need we say more?

Perks of Staying at The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota
One of the best perks of staying at The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota is access to the resort’s private Beach Club. Located just three miles from the hotel, this exclusive club sits on the beautiful white-sand beaches of Lido Key and offers hotel guests a private, quiet and exclusive Gulf of Mexico beach experience. Take a dip in the heated, zero-entry family swimming pool, relax in the Gulf-front Jacuzzi, enjoy poolside dining and participate in an array of distinctive Sarasota beach activities. The best part? You’ll never have to fight for a chair in the sand or worry about schlepping your towels and chairs to the beach. Note: complimentary shuttle transportation is provided daily to and from The Beach Club for guests of the resort.

Chill on Sarasota’s Famous Beaches
With over 35 miles of beaches, it’s no surprise that Sarasota’s coastline is a top attraction for both residents and visitors alike. Siesta Key consists of eight miles of sand and includes Turtle Beach, Crescent Beach and awarding-winning Siesta Beach (it was named best beach in the US by Dr. Beach in 2017 and received TripAdvisor’s Traveler’s Choice Award in 2015 and 2017). On any given day, Siesta Beach offers sparking Gulf of Mexico views, powder-fine white quartz sand and balmy breezes. Renovations in 2016 brought a paved pedestrian esplanade, an elevated concession stand and a beach-themed playground, making it even more desirable for families. Psst…check out the Siesta Beach drum circle every Sunday at sunset complete with dancing, hula-hooping and bongo drumming.

Lido Beach, located north of Siesta Beach, is another popular beach among families. Out-of-towners who frequent Lido Beach love if for its white sand (no water shoes needed here) and locals love it for its legendary concession stand lobster rolls. North Lido Beach also offers a pool for lounging and swimming and the southern end of Lido Key provides both Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota bayside beach access. In south Sarasota County, you’ll find Venice Beach which holds the title of “Shark Tooth Capital of the World” for its endless collection of prehistoric megalodon shark teeth. And Longboat Key, the northernmost and longest island along Sarasota’s coast, is where you’ll find 12 miles of shoreline and turtles who nest and lay their eggs there.

Must-Visit Family Attractions
In addition to gorgeous beaches and waterfront activities, Sarasota offers a variety of family attractions. The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art is recognized as the official State Arts Museum of Florida and should definitely be at the top of your must-do list. Located just a few miles west of the Sarasota airport, The Ringling sits on 66 acres of bayfront property and houses The Ringling Museum of Art which includes 21 galleries of paintings, Cypriot antiques, Asian art, American paintings and contemporary art collected by American circus owner, developer and art collector John Ringling and his wife Mable.

The Ringling is also home to the Circus Museum and the only place in the country where you can view the world’s largest miniature circus (it’s a whopping 3,800-square-foot display that includes a big top with circus performers, performers’ living quarters and a dining tent). Take in all the action under the big top and view circus costumes, props, performance equipment and other artifacts chronicling the history of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Other attractions on the estate include Mable Ringling’s Rose Garden and the spectacular Ca’ d’Zan which was the winter home of John and Mable Ringling.

The Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is another must-visit Sarasota attraction. Originally the home of William and Marie Selby, the Botanical Gardens showcase a living collection of rare and beautiful tropical plants in a variety of garden settings, including an awesome Children’s Rainforest Garden that offers natural space for discovery, exploration, learning and play. Other notable family attractions include the Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium, the Big Cat Habitat & Gulf Coast Sanctuary and St. Armands Circle, a quaint, laid-back shopping center that boasts a European vibe and offers more than 138 different shops and restaurants around the Circus Ring of Fame. From trinkets and treasures to high fashion and home décor, you’ll find it all on the Circle.

Dining Options at The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota
If you book a Club Level room at The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota, you’ll definitely want to take advantage of the daily food and beverage offerings in the Club Lounge. From traditional breakfast fare and create-your-own paninis and salads to afternoon snacks, evening hors d’oeuvres and decadent deserts and pastries, you’ll find spectacular variety and impeccable service at the Club Lounge from sunup to sundown. Psst…a variety of sodas, juices, bottled water and coffee are available in the Club Lounge 24/7 along with fruit, cookies and candies. If you’ve got a crew of grazers, this is the only way to go!

In addition to the Club Lounge, The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota offers award-winning dining options at its resort and Beach Club. Located right on the resort’s marina is where you’ll find Jack Dusty, a nautical-inspired restaurant, lounge and marketplace known for its delicious seafood, local cuisine and laid-back ambiance. Savor freshly caught Gulf shrimp, Sarasota Cioppio or Jack’s Ceviche (one of our favorites) and sip on signature crafted cocktails. (Psst…try the Siren made with Reyka Vodka or Hendricks Gin, Elderflower Liqueur, lemon, simple syrup and a prosecco topper served with grapefruit, cranberry and orchid ice cubes which make the drink change colors as it melts!) At The Beach Club, Ridley’s Porch offers locally inspired dishes and cocktails and sits right on the beautiful white-sand beaches of Lido Key, giving families an all-encompassing beachside experience parallel to none. (Note: the restaurant pays homage to the Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle, one of the smallest and rarest sea turtles, which can be found nesting on the beach May through October.) Start your meal off with deep-fried avocado bites, barbecue octopus and shrimp ceviche and end it with the restaurant’s famous carrot cake and out-of-this-world butterscotch bread pudding. You can thank us later!

Additional Places to Indulge Your Taste Buds
Sarasota County is home to a host of award-winning dining establishments and five craft breweries. If you’re looking for traditional Spanish fare, Columbia on St. Armands Circle is a must-try. A Florida tradition since 1905, Columbia is known for its Spanish dishes packed with fresh seafood and tender pork, chicken and rice; it’s bean soup with chorizo; and its delicious hot Cuban bread. Everything on the menu pairs well with a pitcher of fresh sangria (made tableside) and Columbia’s legendary 1905 Salad, also prepared tableside with its to-die-for garlic dressing. Psst…if you visit before mid-May, you can order fresh stone crabs chilled, steamed or broiled with Latin spices. De-lish!

If a quaint, sophisticated dining experience is what you crave, Indigenous (housed in a cozy old bungalow in the Towles Court arts district) offers innovative, carefully sourced American cuisine. Chef Steve Phelps opened Indigenous in 2011, and since then has honed his reputation as one of the region’s most inspirational and educational chefs. The menu is inspired by Chef Phelps’ passion for food, the planet and the community. From Parmesan Beignets and Smoked Fish Sea Saltine Nachos, to Gulf shrimp and grass feed burgers, Indigenous uses perfectly executed techniques and carefully sourced local, sustainable and seasonal ingredients to give guests a unique and conscious dining experience.

With a stunning stretch of beach to play on and a fairytale like town packed with cozy rental cottages, unique shopping options, and a variety of activities, Seabrook is ideal for a quick family escape during the summer, fall, winter or spring. Read on to find out more.

Getting There
Seabrook, Wa. may require a longer drive to get to than some of the coastal towns in Oregon, but the journey is worth it. There are essentially two routes you can take. One is faster, but less scenic. The other takes you along the picturesque coastline.

Route 1: Take I-5N to US-12 for 93 miles.Stay on US-12 west for approximately 26 miles to US 101. The total distance you travel is 170.6 miles with drive time around 3 hours and 4 minutes. (map for detailed directions)

Route 2: This option adds about an hour to your drive but if you have time and you want to make a day out of your travels, there are plenty of fun stops along the way. Take Wa-4 W to US-101. Drive time is 4 hours and 11 minutes.

Stay
Seabrook is full of cozy, comfy, and way cool cottages ready to become your dream home-base. The most difficult thing about finding a place to stay is picking from all of the incredible options available through Seabrook Cottage Rentals. If you prefer to be in the midst of all the action there are accommodations in the center of town. Enjoy stepping out your front door and hopping into a local shop, or grabbing a bite at one of the local eateries without taking more than a couple of steps. If you prefer to get away from it all and drift off at night with the ocean right outside your front door, rent a luxury oceanfront home. There are options perfect for a small family or bring the extended tribe and fit everyone in with extra room to move.

Amenities are abundant when choosing from Seabrook Rentals stock of homes. Think hot tubs, fireplaces, grills, billiard and foosball tables, and flat screen TVs stocked with Xbox systems and piles of movies. The kitchens are all fully equipped so that all you have to haul in is whatever you want to feed the fam. And the beds…oh the glorious beds! This might be the one time you won’t catch yourself looking forward to getting back to your own familiar mattress at bedtime.

Whatever the size of your needs or the types of interests your family has, there is a place that’s perfect waiting for you. Just remember, don’t get too cozy, you don’t want to lose your motivation to leave your stunning abode.

Travel Tip: Bring the family dog! There are cottages ready to house your sweet furry family members.

Play
People tend to think of the Oregon coast as a place to go in the summer. They envision rainy, dreary days that make an afternoon playing in the sand impossible during the winter months. The truth is that Seabrook is a perfect year-round destination. We found that there were plenty of opportunities to get outside as the sun peeked its head out from between clouds again and again. But when it turned wet, there was still plenty to do inside.

Outdoor Activities
Outdoor activities are bountiful in Seabrook. Visitors are able to tour the town by bike year-round, but don’t worry about bringing your own. Bucks Bikes is stocked with rentals for all seasons. There are bicycles available for all sizes and if you want to up the fun and togetherness, you can even get a tandum bike for mom and dad. Think of it as a natural form of therapy and relationship skill building.

When the weather is warm or the season is right, Buck’s offers skimboards, bodyboards, SUP and all the gear you need to keep warm. Bucks also provides guided experiences that include rentals and lessons for biking or water adventure. If you prefer to hoof it, there are tons of trails nearby for hiking. Don’t bother researching where you want to go, just contact Bucks! They have maps and can point you in the right direction.

If you are looking for leisurely outdoor fun, wander down to the beach with some kites and sand toys. On the way to the water make sure to make your way through the Gnome Trail, it is truly magical. There you will find gnome homes and fairy houses made from natural materials. If you are lucky you may even catch a glimpse of a friendly woodland creature. Let your kids add to the area, but be careful! Remember: little mystical creatures live there!

Indoor Play
Whether you need a break from the great outdoors or the temps have forced you in, there’s plenty to do indoors during your time at Seabrook. There is a warm indoor pool that guests are able to use for entertainment and exercise. The kids can splash and swim while parents soak in the spa Jacuzzi. When you’ve gotten all of the wiggles out, get in some arts and crafts at Imagine that Shel’s Pottery Painting Studio. Shel herself is a jewel, and takes time to greet and talk to each person who comes in. She is passionate about her shop and creates an atmosphere of fun and celebration with brightly colored walls and seasonal music. Your kids can kill hours working on whatever piece of pottery they choose to decorate. From coffee mugs to objects for living room decor there’s a variety to choose from. And all of the fun isn’t just for kids, there are plenty of adults who dedicate their vacation time to art at her shop, so mom and dad shouldn’t hold back. If the kids finish first, this idealistic little town gives kids plenty of room to roam safely while you get your painting on.

Romance
Ok, it’s a family vacation, but that doesn’t mean you can’t grab a little time away from the kids for love. Especially if you’ve brought the grandparents along. There’s no better way to ignite romance then by obliterating stress and that’s just what the professionals at Spa Elizabeth will do for you. There are a variety of massage packages to choose from and we suggest you go big because you are guaranteed an unparalleled experience that you are unlikely to find easily when you get back home. From the traditional massage to therapeutic and deep tissue massages to pregnancy massages there is something to suit your preferences. Add hot stones, aroma therapy or a foot soak and while they offer a 60 minute option, 90 minutes is well worth the cost.

After you are warmed up and relaxed head over to The Stowaway Wine and Cheese Bar for a sip and a nibble. This cozy little retreat has a lovely variety of wines to choose from. We suggest trying a flight (or two) and ordering up one or two of their plates. The Cheese and Charcuterie Plate is filled with salami, coppa, and prosciutto along with artisan cheeses, olives, figs and more. If you aren’t much of a meat person go for a cheese plate or nibble on their fresh french bread.

Eat
The food you encounter in Seabrook, across the board, is delicious. Whether you hit Front Street Market for pasta makings or a taco dinner or you head to Frontager’s Pizza Co. for genuine brick-oven pizza, every bite you take will taste as though it was made from scratch just moments ago (in some cases it is).

Front Street Market is the place to go for all of your basic needs. They are a small neighborhood market and they carry only the best. There’s plenty available for meals in between trips to the restaurants, especially when you want something like a bottle of wine or some high-end snacks on a whim.

Frontager’s makes its dishes right in front of you and you can taste the difference. They have a menu full of unique pies to choose from. We suggest the Fresh Mozzarella, Gorgonzola, House Ricotta, Parmesan, San Marzano Tomato. It’s incredible. If your little foodies prefer to stick to the typical, talk to your wait staff, they are happy to whip up a plain pepperoni that will taste anything but plain. Don’t forget to try the Stromboli, which is essentially a little package of goodness wrapped in pizza dough and cooked, and the Panzanella Arugula Blend, Roasted Cannellini, Kalamata Olive, Heirloom Tomato, House Ricotta, Red Wine Vinaigrette salad is delish. Even the kids will love it.

Another great dinner option is the Mill 109. This friendly restaurant fills it’s menu with Northwest coastal cuisine and plenty of family fare. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and you can find family favorites like bread pudding french toast, steamers, pan-fried oysters, clam chowder, and classic sandwiches like the Reuben and the Mainline Burger. Plenty of items to choose from during your stay. And don’t forget to check out the cocktail list for a nice way to relax after a big meal.

If you are looking for a quick bite and a bit of coffee in the morning, Red Velvet Bakery is your go-to cafe. Beware, their pastry case will cast a spell on you and once you get a taste, you won’t be able to stop. The cinnamon rolls are one-of-a-kind sweet-to-perfection and the maple bars are straight up addictive (just like their lattes). You can also order something on the savory side like a quiche or a breakfast sandwich. And that’s just a couple of the treats waiting for you.

Speaking of treats, don’t forget to stop over at the Sweet Life Ice Cream and candy shop before you hit the road. Whether it’s candy or ice cream you crave, you’ll find exactly what you need for that little extra rush you need to keep up with the kiddos in tow.

Coming Soon
As perfectly amazing as Seabrook is right now, it’s growing fast. Market Street, at the town center, is under construction and scheduled to open up and bring even more shops and restaurants to the town. Expect this place to became one of your favorite year-round destinations. And if you are looking for somewhere to spend the holidays—any holiday—don’t forget to book ahead. With its thoughtfully developed property and incredible family activities, it’s sure to book up fast for those looking to make memories that last.

Travel Tip: Don’t forget to check their calendar for upcoming events. They bring in popular bands for concerts and host cool fun-for-the-whole-family activities.

Vegan Pizza Eats: Recently Opened Virtuous Pie

Go Glamping: Your Next Winter Retreat

Everyone loves pizza! Well, maybe not that cardboard kind you get at far too many kids parties. And your kids won’t eat that froufrou stuff with more veggies than crust. So we ate our way through LA (tough job, but someone’s got to do it!) to find the very best spots for pizza in LA that kids and parents alike can agree on. Read on to find out where you can take the family out for pizza everyone will love.

De Sano Pizzeria Napoletana
The mozzarella is made earlier in the week, in a small town in Campania.  The flour also came from the boot, by boat. Sea salt, straight from the Mediterranean. Exacting provenance or no, every parent knows a restaurant is only as good as it is appealing to our kids. And that’s why De Sano is our favorite family pizza joint. Not only do they boast fabulous pizza kids can’t get enough of, they have TVs that get the Dodgers (and every other sports team), open kitchen that allows your non-sports fans to catch a show of dough twirling, plus a family style happy hour of two large pizzas plus a bottle of house wine for $50. So load your pie up with all goodies you please, while kids go minimalist Margherita, and everybody goes home happy. The space is unequivocally kid friendly, the pizza is unequivocally grown-up good.  Plus, they make some of the best (and only!) cannoli in town, so save room for dessert.

North Italia
This pizza spot also has fresh from Napoli ingredients and blisteringly great pizza married with an open concept kitchen that makes theatre for tots who are interested in watching talented chefs prepare meals. And just in case you want something upscale, you can get pasta and other entries instead of pizza. Or if you happen to have one kid who doesn’t like pizza (there’s always that one child who won’t eat melted cheese!) North Italia offers a kids’ menu featuring selections that’ll please even the pickiest pint-sized palettes. But back to the pizza, for the allergen-conscious there are gluten free crusts available, and for grownups, the prosciutto with figs, goat cheese and arugula is to die for.

Pizzana
Team Sprinkles (the brains behind the cupcake dynasty) realized kids can not live on tiny cakes alone. They need pizza! Featuring Naples style pizzas coming out of wood-burning ovens, this beacon of bubbly crust and billowy cheese is a new Westside staple. For parents, the star is how the restaurant’s naturally fermented dough and wood-fired oven work in tandem to create a crust that is both gloriously chewy and nicely charred. It’s covered with San Marzano tomatoes and Fior di latte cheese. The Margharita will captivate your plain Janes, while whatever is on special is a must order for Mom. And while there are no cupcakes on the dessert menu, Sprinkles ice cream is, and it’s the perfect way to end the meal.

Miceli’s
Family-owned since 1949, Miceli’s offers a large selection of tomato-based old school pizzas that the kids adore. But what will really draw you here is the décor (straight outta Little Italy) and the singing waiters. You get dinner and a side of show tunes and opera, sung by people with serious pipes. The menu also offers a wide array of pasta and Italian entrees if you don’t feel like pizza. (And as an adult, you probably don’t want the pizza, which your kids will devour and your more picky palate may not prefer…) In addition to being the perfect place for kids, it’s a good spot to entertain out of town guests.  More than one mother-in-law has swooned after being the recipient of a serenade from a handsome waiter with a booming voice. While it’s not the best pizza in town, but it may quickly become your kids favorite.

Casa Bianca
This is another old school classic, an eastside haunt with thin crusts, red-checkered tablecloths and a taste that will take you back to your childhood neighborhood family pizza joint. Heck, if you grew up in LA, this probably was your neighborhood joint; it’s been here since 1955. Don’t forget your (fried) veggies: be sure to order a side of the zucchini for the wee ones, and grownups need to share the legendary eggplant pizza. There are plenty of pasta, salad and sandwich options for those non-pizza inclined. (Before you come it’s good to know that the joint is cash only though an ATM is available, they’re closed Monday & Tuesday and parking can be a pain, otherwise you’re in for a not-so-pleasant surprise!)

The Luggage Room Pizzeria
The Luggage Room occupies the former luggage room of Pasadena’s old Santa Fe train depot. The wood burning oven bakes up pies that are topped with goodies from local farmers markets and farms, and the simple kids menu (personal cheese or pepperoni pies for $5-$6) are a hit with little pizza lovers who don’t like to share. The vegan and vegetarian options abound for parents, along with a fabulous wine and beer menu, and definitely order a starter of the bacon wrapped dates. On your way out, pick up a bag of their famous English muffins for tomorrow’s breakfast.

Milo + Olive
What’s not to love about a neighborhood bakery and artisan wood-fire pizzeria that’s almost always open for either dine-in or take out? Kids love the pizza and family atmosphere (and scent of fresh baked cookies in the air), parents love the farm to table ingredients and spectacular sides like kale salad and fried local squid. All you need to know is that this is the brainchild of parents and partners Zoe Nathan and Josh Loeb, of Huckleberry (and Sweet Rose Creamery, Rustic Canyon, Esters and Talulla’s) fame. And it’s named after their son, so you know it’s taking kids into account. And it is, with the perfect pizza, made to order in the wood burning oven. You can also get some of the best bagels in the city to bring home for tomorrow’s breakfast. The wine and beer lists are our favorite of any pizza joint in town, if you like something to sip while relaxing over a pizza.

Masa
It seems like LA has decided that NY or Italian style is the only way to eat pizza. But if you’re more of a Chicago deep dish fan, this place makes everything from scratch including the dough and uses local and Chicago-imported products, turning out a pizza that would do homesick Windy City people proud. Because this is Echo Park, not Chi-town, you can also get a vegan pie. If you haven’t cashed in all your carb chips already, save a little room for the croissant bread pudding. You only live once, and the resulting carb coma is worth it.

Because it’s not quick-fired thin crusts, your pizza order may take a little longer to cook. But that’s OK, because your kids are busy filling up on the bread and butter…which just means you’re taking home leftover pizza.

Tomato Pie Pizza Joint
Make your own pizza with classic or gourmet toppings, or pick one of their gourmet pizzas (try the Prosciutto Happiness or the Carnitas Way). You can go gluten free, if you so choose, or deep dish style. Tomato Pie is simply just very, very good pizza you can have exactly the way you like it. It’s become the go-to for local families for take out and birthday parties when you have to feed both kids and parents and keep everyone happy. Warning: don’t even try the Greek Pie. It’s seriously addictive, and you’ll be thinking about it for days.

Stella Barra Pizzaria
While this is actually a joint known (and beloved) for the wood fired pizza, kids think of this as the cookie spot, because in addition to fabulous pizza, Stella Barra makes giant cookies in amazing flavors (Bacon Chocolate Chip and Rice Krispy Chip are kid pleasers). The upshot is, you can enjoy an upscale pizza (and salad and wine) dinner the whole family will love, and get a cookie to savor later.
