A family trip to South Africa ended up changing the life of nine-year-old Kate Gilman Williams in ways she couldn’t imagine. When she learned about the many threats that wildlife face like poaching, Williams returned home with a passion to help animals that come to harm at the hands of humans.

With the help of South African professional wildlife guide, Michelle Campbell, Williams turned her passion into a children’s book, Let’s Go On Safari. The book, which comes out May 6, encourages children all over the globe to be an advocate for wild animals.

Williams is not only making her mark with peers her own age, she’s also caught the eye of other big-name celebrities in the wildlife field. Recently, she’s come to the attention of Dr. Jane Goodall of the Goodall Institute, Angela Sheldrick of The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Brian Sheth, Chairman of the Global Wildlife Conservation, The Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund and even Ryan Seacrest!

When asked what the main theme she wants her readers to take away, Williams states “that saving African animals and not poaching is important––and I want to tell kids they can make a difference, too.”

You can purchase your copy of Let’s Go on Safari starting May 6 from Crickhollow Books.

The iconic doll is coming to a movie theater near you—and it’s not yet-another animated flick, either. The first live-action Barbie movie is set to hit the silver screen—and it’s starring Mary Queen of Scots actress Margot Robbie!

Warner Bros. and Mattel recently announced their Barbie movie collab, giving the blonde beauty a live-action movie of her very own. And who better to play the oh-so-perfect doll but Robbie? They could honestly pass as twins. Toby Emmerich, chairman of Warner Bros. Picture Group, agrees. In a statement, Emmerich said, “Margot is the ideal producer and actress to bring Barbie to life on screen in a fresh and relevant way for today’s audiences.”

Did you catch that? Robbie isn’t just a pretty face. She’s also co-producing the film. Robbie noted in a press statement, “I’m so honored to take on this role and produce a film that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide. I can’t imagine better partners than Warner Bros and Mattel to bring this film to the big screen.”

So when can you catch Barbie on the big screen? It looks like we’ll have to wait a while. The film isn’t yet in production, so no release date or title as of now. But at least the important groundwork is there with a green-lit film and its titular star!

So what do Dunkin Donuts and the Royal Wedding have to do with one another? Well if you’re thinking that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be serving the frosting-covered doughy rounds of goodness at their reception, you’d be wrong. But you can have a dozen or so of your very own love-themed donuts at your royal wedding watch party!

Yep, Dunkin’ Donuts is releasing a special limited-edition donut in honor of the royal nuptials. The “Royal Love Donut” is a heart-shaped donut that comes with a jelly filling. As if that’s not enough donut love, it’s frosted with chocolate icing and topped with a strawberry drizzle. Yum!

Oh, but the royal wedding celebration doesn’t stop at a heart-shaped donut. Dunkin’ Donuts is going all out for this super-special occasion. Select guests will have the opportunity to take a Dunkin’ Donut-colored (pink and orange) horse-drawn carriage trip through NYC’s Central Park. (And they’ll get to enjoy “Royal Love Donuts” on their ride too.)

Continuing with donut retailer’s royal theme, IRL princess (and Real Housewife of New York) Carole Radziwill will kick off the event by taking the ceremonial first carriage ride.

If you’re wondering why Dunkin’ Donuts is serving up a royal donut on this side of the Atlantic, Dunkin’ Brands Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Nigel Travis, said in a press release, “As the U.S. donut leader, we love helping our guests make special occasions both big and small even sweeter with fun donut designs and flavors. The Royal Wedding represents optimism, happiness and joy, thus is a perfect opportunity for our brand to celebrate. We hope all donut lovers, royalty or not, will enjoy the new Royal Love Donut next week.”

The “Royal Love Donut” will be available at Dunkin’ Donuts stores from May 14 through May 20.

One of the major home improvement big-box retailers is about to give its employees a treat. Yep, Lowe’s parental leave policies are changing. The company recently announced a plan to enhance benefits for their employees, including new bonuses, an expansion to maternal and parental leave policies and added adoption assistance.

Lowe’s chairman, president and CEO, Robert A. Niblock, said, “We are investing in our employees who make a difference every day in the communities where we live and work.” He went on to add, “Our employees are the foundation of our business, and we are excited to enhance our benefits to better meet their needs and the needs of their families.”

So what are these new enhanced benefits exactly? In the announcement, Lowe released their plan to give a one-time cash bonus to all eligible full- and part-time hourly employees. This includes employees who work in Lowe’s retail stores as well as their customer support centers, distribution centers and contact centers.

Along with a cash bonus, eligible employees (both hourly and salaried) can now get 10 weeks of paid maternity leaves and two weeks of paid parental leave. Employees who are adopting can get an adoption assistance benefit that will cover up to $5,000 of their eligible expenses. The “eligible expenses” include agency fees, legal fees or additional fees that also relate to the adoption.

Oh, but these aren’t the only changes that Lowe’s is making. The company will also provide eligible employees with the chance to enroll in health benefits earlier on (the first of the month, following a 30-day service period).

Fisher-Price is recalling more than 10 million tricycles, toys and high chairs over safety concerns.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday that the tricycles and high chairs were blamed for children’s injuries.

In the recall of about 7 million Fisher-Price Trikes and Tough Trikes toddler tricycles, the agency is aware of 10 reports of children being hurt. Six of them required medical attention.

The trikes — some of which feature popular characters like Dora the Explorer and Barbie — have a protruding plastic ignition key near the seat that children can strike, sit on or fall on, leading to injuries that the commission said can include genital bleeding.

Fisher-Price is also recalling more than 1 million Healthy Care, Easy Clean and Close to Me High Chairs, after 14 reports of problems. The pegs on the back of the high chairs can be used to store the tray, but children can fall on them, resulting in cuts and other injuries. Seven children required stitches, the commission said.

CPSC Chairman Inez Tenenbaum said manufacturers need to do more to build safety into their products before they reach store shelves. But she also offered praise for Fisher-Price for “taking the right steps by agreeing to these recalls and offering consumers free repairs or replacement.”

The two other Fisher-Price recalls were:

_More than 2.8 million Baby Playzone Crawl & Cruise Playground toys, Baby Playzone Crawl & Slide Arcade toys, Baby Gymtastics Play Wall toys, Ocean Wonders Kick & Crawl Aquarium toys, 1-2-3 Tetherball toys and Bat & Score Goal toys. The valve of the inflatable ball on the toys can come off and pose a choking hazard to children, said CPSC. The agency said there were more than 50 reports of the valves coming off the balls.

_About 100,000 Fisher-Price Little People Wheelies Stand ‘n Play Rampway toys. The wheels on the purple and green cars can come off, posing a choking hazard.

Most of the products were being recalled in the United States, but about 400,000 of them were sold in Canada.

Fisher-Price is a unit of Mattel Inc. Consumers can visit the company’s website at www.service.mattel.com for more information on the dates of sale and model numbers for the recalled products.
