Rumer Willis shared a sweet photo of her dad, Bruce Willis, holding his granddaughter on his first Father’s Day as a grandpa

Father’s Day was filled with sweet family moments, but we’re especially loving this one from Rumer Willis, who recently gave birth to her first baby, and marked the occasion by sharing a photo of her famous dad, Bruce Willis, enjoying his first Father’s Day as a grandpa.

In the adorable photo, Bruce is cuddling baby Louetta Isley Thomas Willis, who Rumer welcomed with her boyfriend, Derek Richard Thomas, in April. The two are standing outside looking over the patio and lawn—an extremely grandpa move if you ask us.

“Seeing my father hold my daughter today was something I will treasure for the rest of my life,” Rumer wrote in the caption. “His sweetness and love for her was so pure and beautiful. Papa, I’m so lucky to have you and so is Lou. Thank you for being the silliest, most loving, coolest Daddio a girl could ask for. Best Girl Dad in the game.”

She also paid tribute to Thomas.

“Happy 1st Father’s Day,” she wrote. “Thank you for building a beautiful garden for Lou to play in and eat from. 🌱 Thank you for filling the house with music for her to hear 🎶 Thank you for all the late-night diaper changes and silly faces. I’m so grateful our girl has a papa that loves her so much and someone so goofy and weird so she knows that’s ok for her to be too. Thank you for the greatest girl I could imagine in my wildest dreams. We love you 🧡”

Alongside the love from his grown-up daughter, Bruce got a sweet Father’s Day shout-out from his wife, Emma Heming, with whom he shares daughters 9-year-old Evelyn and 11-year-old Mabel.

“Father’s Day is a time I get to reflect on my deep appreciation and respect I have for Bruce as I watch him father our little ones,” Heming wrote in her post. “Where it might not be “conventional,” what he’s teaching them will span generations. Unconditional love, kindness, strength, compassion, patience, generosity, resilience. Happy Father’s Day to the greatest dad I know, who will forever be the gift that keeps giving within our family 💞”

Happy Father’s Day to Bruce and all the other dads!

Being a new mom can be tough. These books let you know you’re not alone

It’s a messy, bold, beautifully written story of Adiba’s truth and her quest to live it.

Adiba also wrote a children’s book, Clarabelle Blue Is Just Like You, to offer her daughter visibility in the world and to teach other children the value of loving one another. This new memoir will have you laughing, loving, and celebrating.

These brands make it so easy to jump on the organic baby clothes train

If you’re a parent, you know how important it is to keep your little ones safe and comfortable. In total fairness, even if you’re not a parent, you know babies have much more delicate skin than adults. Oh, and that everything goes in their mouths (clothes included). None of that is really news, per se, but it’s definitely info that’s becoming more and more talked about. Organic baby clothes are trending. Even the most die-hard, brand-loyal moms and dads are paying closer attention to what their kiddos’ clothes and toys are made from. And with good reason. There are some incredible kids brands (and we’d know!), but there’s still products out there treated or made with stuff you probably don’t want near your littles.

That’s why more and more parents are turning to organic baby and toddler clothes. Not only are they made from natural materials without harmful chemicals, but they’re also super soft and gentle on baby’s delicate skin. Beyond that, there’s the added bonus of being better for the planet all around. And listen. No one is saying you have to go 100% natural and organic all the time. If that’s not realistic for you and your crew, then stick with what works for you. Even making a couple of swaps from your usual buys to organic and natural options occasionally can make a difference. We’ve made it easy, too, by rounding up a list of organic and natural baby and toddler clothes for every budget, lifestyle, and fashion sense.

After the tricks have all been tricked and the treats have all been treated, turning your little mummies and monsters back into your clean-faced kiddos can be a bit challenging. Makeup remover and soap created for adult skin is generally way too harsh for little faces, and you definitely want to be sure you’re able to safely remove costume makeup and face paint. We’ve stocked up on our can’t-live-withouts from Pipette to get the job done right!

We already love our Pipette daily go-to products, so we’re not surprised that our regularly-used goodies are up to the task with the best combination of gentle and effective clean ingredients. And with Pipette offering 30% off your first order with code SQUALANE30, there’s no better time to stock up! We’ve got all our best tips below to safely remove costume makeup, so you can kick back and relax (and maybe steal a few fun-sized candy bars; you earned it!).

Pipette

Pipette Baby Wipes

$6 BUY NOW

We're definitely not here for rubbing and scrubbing delicate little cheeks, so our first step is breaking out the Pipette Baby Wipes. We'll be honest: we use these for so much more than just diaper changes, and the plant-based fibers of these wipes mean you aren't using abrasives. Since they're water-based, they'll loosen up Halloween makeup gently (and clean up sticky candy-hands, too! Just sayin'...). TIP: Pipette Baby Wipes are awesome for taking off lighter makeup and face paint! If you're dealing with dark or heavy product, use these first, then move on to our next must-have!

Pipette Baby Shampoo + Wash

There's not a day that goes by that we don't use the Pipette Baby Shampoo & Wash, so it makes sense that we'd reach for it to safely remove halloween makeup! Add a little to your fingertips and gently rub over makeup spots, then either use a soft cloth to wipe away the remains, or just rinse with water! You don't have to worry about Pipette's Baby Shampoo & Wash stripping your kiddos' natural skin moisture, and plant-derived cleansers mitigate resulting irritation. Choose from never-synthetic fragrances like Rose + Geranium or Vanilla + Ylang Ylang, or opt for the fragrance-free formula!

Pipette Baby Oil

$10 BUY NOW

Forget everything you know about traditional baby oil. Pipette's Baby Oil is mineral oil-free and is formulated to mimic the protective moisture babies are born with! For stubborn makeup, use a cotton ball, cotton pad, or your fingers to gently massage over skin and watch all the color dissolve (we'd know; we've been using it to remove our own makeup!) TIP: While you can definitely leave Pipette Baby Oil to absorb on the skin whenever you use it, we'd suggest following makeup removal with the Pipette Baby Shampoo + Wash to make sure all traces of makeup and face paint are rinsed away.

The pair have whipped up the “Baby News Network”

News anchors have a knack for making most everything sound exciting, and that even includes a day-in-the-life of babies! In a now-viral video, Jeannette Reyes and Robert Burton are using their own experience of manning the news desk to whip up the “Baby News Network.”

Reyes, a morning anchor at WTTG-TV in Washington, D.C., kicks off the video to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” by greeting her daughter. “Good morning, Bella. It is 9:52. Hopefully you slept well; certainly no one else did, but we’re not going to point any fingers.”

Mom passes it off to Burton, a news anchor with ABC 7News in Washington, D.C. to report on the weather.  “Will we get to enjoy it?” he asks. “Well, if spit ups, feedings and diaper changes don’t get in the way, we just might be able to make it out of here before midnight.”

But wait! There’s breaking news, as reported by Reyes. “An explosion at the diaper station. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and authorities tell us they do have a suspect in custody. Unfortunately, that suspect is not speaking at the moment, but they have linked her to hundreds of other explosions.”

“Is she considered a flight risk?” asks Burton. “No, look at her” replies Reyes with an exasperated look on her face (been there!). The video wraps up with mom reciting “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” in her telltale anchor news voice before the pair signs off from the Baby News Network.

Since Reyes and Burton made the video earlier this week, they and baby Bella are making waves not only in the news community but on TikTok as well. The video has been viewed almost five million times, has over one million likes and 16k comments.

We’re staying tuned for an evening edition!

It had been a few years since our last car camping trip when my partner and I decided to take our toddler and her older brother for a post-Labor Day weekend getaway. While we were far from camping novices, we were definitely toddler camping first-timers. If you’re wondering how it all works with wee ones in the woods, here’s my experience.

Let me start by admitting that I completely overlooked one of the tenants of toddlerhood before our first trip: practice, practice, practice. Before dentist visits or doctor’s appointments or first days of school, I was always on top of the practice principle. But for some reason I neglected prepping our toddler for this one. Setting up a tent in the living room or backyard would have done the trick, but luckily, things worked out in the end.

Imagine her surprise when we pulled into our spot, surrounded by looming Douglas fir trees and thorny blackberry bushes, and told her this is where we were staying for the night. I could see the wheels turning as she looked from the picnic table to the fire pit then back to me. Pitching the tent was clearly in order, so we got to work. As far as she was concerned oversized family tents were as exciting to put up as they were to play in.

Turns out, so was the parked car. Sitting in the driver’s seat of the family truck, turning dials and pushing buttons that were normally off limits, was a freedom she had only dreamed of. But hey, at least we could get lunch ready! In fact, most of the toys I had packed to keep her entertained at the campsite never made it out of the bag. With so much new stuff to do, she didn’t need old favorites. (Side note, toddler camping chairs are almost as cool as exploring cars and tents.)

After lunch I experienced my first Elsa moment of the trip—you know, one where you have to let it go. I hadn’t thought too much about diaper changes. When the first one came I realized two things. First: I was oh so glad we weren’t potty training. Second: there are no good campsite diaper changing spots. It’s either the picnic table where you eat, the tent where you sleep or the far away campsite restrooms that are barely a step up from the forest floor. And let’s be honest, that’s a trek no one wants to make in the late night hours, flashlight or not. (Recommendation: the back of the car is likely your best option if you have a minivan or something similar.)

This was followed by another important realization. Bears live in the woods. So our diaper went straight to the bear-proof trash can because I’m pretty sure bears are attracted to smells of all kinds.

Lunched, changed and ready to go, we set out to explore the area. This is the easy part of camping with tots because there’s so much to do. At most campgrounds, you’ll find all sorts of short hikes, beach walks, nature scavenger hunts and spots for kids to scooter. For our two-year-old, keeping it simple worked best. We threw rocks into the ocean, flew kites on the beach and let her wear herself out on the trails (no backpack needed). Before I knew it, we had missed her nap time and were headed into dinner.

One unexpected camping bonus? Kids power down when the sun does. So it was still pretty early when I pulled out the PJs and realized I was flying blind—without bedtime routine basics. No bath. No books. No rocking chair. No white noise machine. In an effort to make like Steve Winwood, I rolled with it. Picture it: me trying to calmly recite Goodnight Moon from memory while my overtired toddler bounced off the tent walls. It was as exhausting as it sounds. But eventually we all got some rest.

Bottom line, camping with toddlers may require a little extra prep and planning, but it’s totally worth it. If a camping trip is in your future, here’s a short list of must-pack items to help:

  • diapers (more than you think)
  • wipes, wipes, and more wipes
  • spare socks and shoes, plus extra clothes
  • gear for any weather—sunscreen, hat, fleece, rain gear, etc.
  • sleeping bag (wearable sleeping bags are amazing)
  • collapsible toddler chair

10 Ways to Camp Without Actually Camping

Ten years ago, I found myself in a situation that I never thought I’d be in, but little did I know that that situation would turn out to be one of the greatest blessings in my life and a catalyst for how I would introduce my kids to preschool.

When I was younger, I knew what I wanted out of life when I grew up. I was going to get married, have kids, live in a nice house in a good neighborhood, have a good job, and maybe even a dog. It was all I ever wanted from childhood to the day I graduated college. But, life has a funny way of giving you what you want, even if it’s not the gift you thought it would be.

After what seemed like the most amazing, at times agonizing, four years of my life, I graduated from college in 2008 with a Bachelor’s degree. Like so many other young students fresh out of the protective womb that is college, I was thousands of dollars in debt and had no clue what to do with my life after I graduated. All I knew was that I had this very expensive degree and the most beautiful and caring girl in the world that I would one day soon ask to be my wife. And so, about a year and a half later, we got married, moved into a tiny apartment, got jobs, and started planning our life as a family.

On paper, it sounded like I was on track for reaching my “American Dream,” but the reality was that I was stuck at a low-paying, dead-end job, and we were barely making ends meet. Still, we weren’t too worried—we knew that things would eventually turn around for us with much prayer and persistence, plus we’d just added a tiny little bundle of motivation to our household. Allow me to introduce you to the real star of this story, my beautiful daughter, Jordyn, aka Lovebug!

Eventually, I found a new job that paid a little more, and we were able to move out of the apartment and into a condo with a little more legroom for the three of us. At this point, my wife and I were both working full time, and our daughter was around a year old, so she was being watched at daycare while we were away. That said, our family schedule wasn’t much different than that of any other average family: 1.) Wake up 2.) Drop baby off at daycare 3.) Go to work for 8 hours 4.) Pick up baby 5.) Interact with baby for approximately 3 hours 6.) Sleep for 8 hours 7.) Repeat. It was a routine that I hadn’t quite pictured in my head when I thought about my life, but I’d come to accept it.

I loved my wife and my new child, but back then, I didn’t understand the meaning of “quality time.” As misogynistic as this may sound, my thought process was that the husband was supposed to be the provider and protector of the household. A father gets to throw in intermittent diaper changes and a few “upsies” here and there. As for the wife, she was supposed to be housekeeper, caretaker of the children, master chef, doctor, lawyer, accountant, human resources, etc…

Of course, now I know better and have progressed light years away from this thinking—mostly due to what happened just a few months into our new life together. In 2012, the company I was working for had to make budget cuts, which led to me getting the dreaded pink slip. I drove home at the end of my shift, kissed my wife, held my child, and nervously informed them that I’d gotten laid off.

Suddenly, I was home every single day for eight hours, terrified beyond belief that I was now left alone with my 2-year-old daughter because we could no longer afford daycare. I had no clue what to do with her, but I did know that I couldn’t plop her in front of the television all day until mommy came home to rescue us both. After a couple of weeks of trips to the park, nap time, and Sesame Street hour, I realized that maybe this full-time parenting thing wasn’t such a bad job.

Once the initial shock wore off that it would just be the two of us during the day, I discovered that this tiny human would not only NOT suddenly burst into flames like the baby in The Incredibles or break into a million pieces. And even better, she was now trying to talk, point things out and get creative with her toys. With a little guidance from my wife, “Daddy School” was born. Keep in mind that this was 2012, so there were no tablets, and smartphones were barely a thing.

Jordyn used to have this little talking puppy toy that would sing the alphabet, review body parts, shapes, numbers, sing nursery rhymes, the whole nine, so that’s where I started. In the morning we’d have breakfast, watch about an hour of cartoons, get dressed and dedicate time to singing, playing, and learning with her talking puppy. As time went on, I developed a routine that included watching videos on Youtube, learning colors, numbers, and shapes, working on motor skills and of course, my favorite part of the day, nap time!

From that point on, my daughter has been my little buddy. I learned just as much from her as she did from me, and I wouldn’t trade that time together for anything in the world. That time together not only helped me understand how to be a parent, it also helped me survive her two brothers…I mean, teach her two brothers that came after her. To this day, they all wish they could come back. And that is the legend of Daddy School!

Hello! My name is Jehron Holland, I'm 36 years old and I'm blessed to be a husband of 11 years and a proud father to 3 beautiful children. It still never ceases to amaze me the things I learn from my kids. Hopefully my experiences can inspire, or at least entertain others.

I used to be terrified of people (talking on the phone, answering the door, talking with relatives and neighbors). Pit in the stomach, tight throat, sweaty palms. I hated it with my whole being and just wanted to disappear. Then, I found band class. At first, I fell in love with the fact that no one had to talk! Your mouth was occupied with blowing into the instrument (score!). Then, I fell in love with the music, and how all of these awkward, gangly middle schoolers could come together and make something beautiful, to be part of something bigger than us. With emphasis on the whole.

For many people, music provides a vital release of emotions and pent up energy. It can be soothing and help improve your self-confidence. Music encourages us to slow down and be in the present moment more. It’s also strongly tied to memory, literacy skills and can boost brain function. Additionally, it has the power to move you to tears or to jump for joy. Most importantly, music helps us connect to something bigger than ourselves, to feel heard and understood and allowed to just be.

I believe in harnessing the powers of music to connect and communicate with our kids. I’m a huge advocate for using music as part of your positive parenting approach.

And before you say, “Ok, but I’m just not musical” or “This won’t work for me because I can’t sing,” wait! Everyone, everyone has an inner musician just waiting to come out and play. Sure, maybe as a kid you were told that you “can’t sing” and you took on that false belief as if it were the truth. I see you. I’m so sorry. And, it’s just not true!

Music is a skill just like any other, and can be improved with some intentional practice.

If you believe, as I do, in music’s ability to raise kind and sensitive humans, first believe in yourself. Know that there is no greater parent for your child than you. Yes, even if you “can’t sing.” What profound life lessons you can teach your kid through your own musical journey of trying something new, being a beginner, practicing, improving, perseverance, being a lifelong learner, plus busting the myth of “perfection” even in adulthood. You can learn right along with your child. Talk about a fantastic bonding experience.

Here are 5 easy ways to start incorporating more music (& joy) into your family life, starting today.

1. Listen to Music You Like
Share your favorite music with your child. Belt out the words no matter how out of tune you think you sound. Your child doesn’t actually know what’s “in tune” or not, they only care about your energy and joy. If you’re enjoying yourself, then your child will, too. Pretend you’re a rockstar on a stage if that helps, sing loud and proud!

2. Draw to Music
Put on some classical or instrumental music and draw what the music makes you feel. No singing required. Draw for a few minutes. Be intentional about your colors, shapes, designs, etc. Share what you drew and why at the end.

3. Start a Family Dance Party
Crank up the party music and get silly! Wiggle, shake, dance, jump, bounce, slide. Take turns copying each other’s dance moves. This is also a great way to reset the energy of the day, too. The sillier the better. Play Follow-The-Leader around the house.

4. Play Instruments Together
Grab a drum and a maraca and play, play, play. Take turns playing rhythmic patterns. Copy each other’s rhythms. Play a steady beat (pulse) while you sing a favorite nursery song or recite a rhyme. Change the speed. Change the volume.

5. Choose One Specific Song
Got tantrums? (washing hands, brushing teeth, bath time, diaper changes, bedtime…) Choose one specific song that you ONLY listen to during that time to make it extra special, plus something to look forward to.

Keep these tips handy as you lead from the heart in your peaceful parenting practice. Help your child navigate this great, big world with ease, compassion and confidence.
