News has been swirling about the cast of the new live-action The Little Mermaid which is in the works, and now fans can officially get a first look at the new Ariel.

Disney has revealed that R&B singer Halle Bailey of Chloe x Halle will be joining the cast of The Little Mermaid as the golden-voiced mermaid turned human. “After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance—plus a glorious singing voice—all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” the film’s director Rob Marshall said in a statement.

Bailey joins the growing cast, which already includes Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina. Melissa McCarthy is also reportedly in talks to play the role of Ursula. This will be the first feature film role for Bailey who also stars in the Freeform series Grown-ish.

The new live action reboot will feature songs from the original animated film as well as new songs composed by Alan Menken and Hamilton sensation Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is no stranger to Disney having written Oscar-nominated songs for Moana and Mary Poppins Returns.

Traveling with kids can be challenging and it’s rare to meet travelers without kids in tow who can relate. This dad’s viral letter about a stranger who entertained his daughter in the airport is a great reminder of how far a simple act of kindness can go.

Dad Kevin Armentrout was traveling with his wife and 16-month-old daughter Carter Jean and she was “being her usual inquisitive self” at the airport terminal, he explained in a Facebook post that has since gone viral. The picture accompanying his post shows Carter Jean sitting next to a man named Joseph Pat Wright who she met and befriended while the family waited for their flight.

“[Joseph] reached out and asked if she wanted to sit with him. He pulled out his tablet and showed her how to draw with it, they watched cartoons together, and she offered him snacks. This wasn’t a short little exchange, this was 45 minutes,” Armentrout wrote in the post.

It was a small gesture, but one that made the airport wait with a young toddler a breeze. That’s no easy feat. The post which has been shared over 100,000 times ended with a thank you to Wright for “showing my daughter what kindness and compassion looks like.”

Before Women’s History Month comes to a close, the country’s most-visited National Park has just announced it will have its first female chief park ranger in history.

Tennessee native Lisa Hendy will become the Great Smokey Mountains National Park’s chief ranger—and its first female lead ranger in the park’s 85-year history. The park ranger will officially take over the reigns of the the 522,419 acres of protected land that runs between Tennessee and North Carolina in April.

Handy is no stranger to running a National Park as her resume includes chief ranger at Big Bend National Park in Texas, as well as serving in other popular parks including Yosemite, Grand Canyon and Yellowstone. This inspiring trail-blazer is not only an experienced ranger but she is also a certified paramedic, firefighter, aviation manager and swiftwater rescuer.

“I am looking forward to returning to my home state in the park that provided my first real outdoor adventures,” she said in a press release. “It will be a pleasure to be involved in the efforts to protect a place that was so instrumental in defining my passions and ultimately my career.”

So that “Momo challenge” thing isn’t real—but the fact that parents need to be watching their kids’ online definitely is. Banning media and certain websites will not work. Why? Because the internet is constantly evolving and changing. And let’s face it: technology will play a significant role in the way they learn and communicate in their futures.

Here are the three things that I am doing to help my kids understand how to use technology.

1. Set time limits and stick to them.

At first, I was letting my nine-year-old use her internet-connected devices whenever she completed the things I needed her to finish, almost like a reward. When she started always choosing that reward, I decided I was doing things wrong. I really didn’t like the idea of her not wanting to do all of the things that make being a kid fun!  So we talked about it. A lot.

At first, I took away all tech, cold turkey. It wasn’t fun for her, and she felt like she was the “only one” who couldn’t use it. After a little while, she remembered that she loves to read and color and play hide and seek with her brother, and I remembered how little she is.

Now she is allowed to use a device for more random spurts of time. Sometimes I let her use it for five minutes, but sometimes she can play a game or watch a slime tutorial for 20 minutes. I try not to let it be longer than that.

2. You do NOT have to stand over their shoulders, but you do need to be present.

Make sure your kids are somewhere you can see and hear them while they are spending time online. Check in on them, and ask them what they are doing. If your kid has a favorite YouTuber, you should know who it is. If your kids like to play a particular game, try it too.

Let your kids know you are interested in what they find interesting! When you do this, they are more likely to share things with you as they get older.

3. Have a real talk about what it means to be safe online.

This is an offshoot of the “stranger danger talk,” except it’s the online safety talk. Chatting is an option on nearly every site our kids are using today. Please tell your kids how important it is never to give information about themselves to anyone online. However, let them know that if they do make a mistake, they can tell you. The last thing you want them to do is to keep a secret that could harm them.

Let them know that if they see or hear something they don’t understand, YOU are available to help them and that you won’t be mad at them for telling you.

Our kids navigate tough stuff every day. They are bombarded with things that a lot of us didn’t have to deal with when we were little. The most important thing that any of us can do for our kids is to communicate with them, on their level, consistently. Play, talk, read, sing, build and every once in a while, watch that cool new unboxing video with them, too.

As a teacher, I've always relied on love and a sense of humor to get through the day. When I became a mom, I decided to tackle the job the same way. I believe that every day is a chance to share some smiles with the people you love.

Are you a total Real Housewives addict? There’s a new guilty pleasure reality show to watch out for: Netflix’s Yummy Mummies is an Australian reality show brought over for U.S. audiences—and we’ve got the scoop on the four stars.

With one season under its belt, the show is reported to have a second season in the works (sorry, only one season is available on Netflix). Described as a mash-up between the Real Housewives franchise and Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Yummy Mummies is all about excess, lavish luxe lifestyles and “characters” who the viewers love to hate. Oh, and they’re ALL pregnant, at the same time. Seriously, check out this bonkers trailer:

Yummy Mummies allows you to follow the lives of women who say things like, “The wives want to be us and the husbands want to be with us.” And wait for it…it gets so much better/worse. In one scene from the Netflix trailer, one of the mummies gets a bouquet of money from her hubby.

Let’s meet the moms of Yummy Mummies, shall we?

Rachel Watts

She’s a retail manager for a major fashion brand who is married to a partner of a real estate agency in Melbourne. This is her first time in front of the camera, and compared to the other women of the show, is kind of laid back. (Kind of.)

Lorinska Merrington

This mama is a model who is no stranger to being in front of the camera. Her hubby also just so happens to be partner in a successful finance company—oh, and he’s a former Australian Football League player, too.

Jane Scandizzo

Scandizzo is yet another model mama to hit the reality show scene. She’s also married to a celeb hairstylist. Lucky her!

Maria Di Geronimo

As if the other mums weren’t luxe enough, Di Geronimo takes the cake. But don’t expect to see her star in Season 2. She reportedly made the decision to leave after seeing how the show portrayed her in Season 1.

You can binge hate-watch the entire first season of Yummy Mummies on Netflix.

When it comes to teaching kids life lessons, nothing is off-limits, as evidenced by Kristen Bell’s thoughts on Snow White in a recent interview with Parents. The Frozen actress and mom of two shared her sentiments about the classic fairytale and we have to admit—she brings up some pretty valid points.

Bell spoke about her love of reading with daughters, Lincoln (5) and Delta (3). But she noted that Snow White‘s messages about strangers and consent are bit concerning, especially in this day and age with a bit more modern sensibilities. Bell explained that while she’s no fan of Snow White, the fairytale poses the perfect opportunity to talk  about such serious concepts with her little ones.

Bell uses the scenario of Snow White accepting the poisoned apple from the evil witch to address stranger danger. She tells Parents, “Every time we close Snow White I look at my girls and ask, ‘Don’t you think it’s weird that Snow White didn’t ask the old witch why she needed to eat the apple? Or where she got that apple?’ I say, ‘I would never take food from a stranger, would you?’ And my kids are like, ‘No!'”

The actress goes on to find that Prince Charming could use a little workshopping when it comes to consent, too. When he sneaks in to give Snow White the sleep-awakening kiss, he misses an important step––asking for permission. Bell asks her kiddos, “Don’t you think that it’s weird that the prince kisses Snow White without her permission? Because you can not kiss someone if they’re sleeping!”

Can we all get a slow clap for mama Bell? You know you’ve got an amazing mom when she takes the time to turn a princess story into a lesson about stranger danger and consent! Legit #momgoals.

Moms with Rude Coworkers Are More Likely to Do This with Their Kids at Home

Confession: mom life isn’t all snuggles and glamour-trips to the grocery store (as if!). Sometimes, we struggle. We question our choices, we make mistakes and we occasionally cry in the shower. But you know what gets us back up again? Well, our kids (looking for a snack) but also the community of moms that surround us. From our own mamas to our best-mom friends to our best friend’s mom, sometimes a few words of encouragement is all it takes. We asked our Red Tricycle staff of mamas what verbal high-fives they’ve had lately, and what they want other moms to know. Read on for their heartwarming answers.

1. You are raising good people.

When people compliment my children by saying things like, “Rain is such a good person,” or “Jude is so compassionate,” it means the world to me. Knowing that my kids are becoming good human beings tells me I am on the right track as their mother…and that maybe I’m a pretty ok human too.

—Annette Benedetti, Portland City Editor

2.You were a good kid (and you are a good parent now).

Lately, my mom has been saying this to me often: “Thanks for being such a great kid growing up.” I’m 30-something now, but when she says that I melt. It makes me think of things that I did as a kid that may have made her feel so reflective and proud. It’s something so simple, yet pretty profound; I’ll be telling my own kids the same thing when they grow up.

—Ayren Jackson-Cannady, D.C. City Editor

3. Your child is a delight.

As a single parent, I don’t get much validation from other people, so when it happens it really means a lot to me. Charlie did a great job sitting through a two-hour Passover seder last month and a total stranger was seated next to her. After the meal, the woman said, “Your daughter is delightful. You’re doing a wonderful job with her.”

—Sara Olsher, Marketing Director

4. You are actually totally cool.

Just a couple of days ago, my daughter was telling me a story from a book she’s reading, where the dad says to his daughter, “I’m secretly cool.” And Molly asked me why he said that. I said all parents know our kids roll their eyes at us and think we’re a little lame, but we all think we’re secretly cool. And Molly said, “Mommy, I don’t think you’re secretly cool. I think you’re really cool!” And that made my insecure little mom heart grow three sizes, with happiness and relief that my pre-tweens don’t totally reject me. Yet.

5. You are loved. Truly.

My boys are getting older, 10 & 8, and I often feel like I’m just the lunch maker, carpool driver, clothes washer and homework nagger. However, Blake, my 8-year-old, tells me at least once a day, “I love you Mom.” He never says it when I’m doing something for him… it’s usually when I’m sitting at my computer working or watching TV. And EVERY time, those four little words melt my heart and make all of my mom insecurities go away. I know it’s sounds small, but to me it means the world!

—Kristina Moy, Seattle Editor

6. You are not alone.

I always feel so much better when a friend says to me “mine do it too” after I’ve bemoaned a tantrum or an exhausting day of dealing with kids who don’t ever seem to listen. Knowing that my kids aren’t the only ones who get tired or frustrated and act out gives me the confidence to listen, learn and keep trying to figure out this whole parenting act.

—Gabby Cullen, National Editor

7. You’ve given up a lot, and it’s worth it.

I was on the phone the other day with my mother-in-law when she said to me, totally unprompted, that I was really doing a great job as a mom. She told me that she recognized that I’d given up a lot for my family (last year we moved 1500 miles away from all of my friends and family). To be honest, those were words I’d been telling myself (this is great move for your kid!) but it didn’t change the fact that I sometimes felt isolated, lonely and homesick. It wasn’t just that she told me I was a good mom, it was that she acknowledged this emotional sacrifice and it made me feel so much better just knowing that she knew what I was going through. It really brought tears to my eyes.

—Amber Guetebier, Daily Editor

8. You have your whole life to work but your kids are only young for so long.

My mom always tells me that my children are my greatest investment in life and that my being there for them is the most important work I’ll ever do. It gives me perspective because sometimes it’s super hard to work from home and be a SAHM, but I know there’s nothing else that matters more to me than my relationship with my kids. I also recently heard “you have your whole life to work, but your kids are only young for so long” and it reminds me to really cherish this time with them because it’s so fleeting.

—Beth Shea, Red Tricycle San Diego Editor

9. Being different from your kids is okay.

.

daughter, Sophie, is very extroverted and talkative! As an introvert parent and someone is not overly talkative, I struggle with how much I should tell her to keep quiet or not talk so much to other people (especially those she doesn’t know). This past weekend, we were at a neighborhood event and an acquaintance (who is also an introvert) said to me,”Your daughter is so great and funny. I could listen to her all day.” Hearing that made me feel like both Sophie and I are probably doing just fine with our respective personalities!

—Leah Singer, Spoke Contributor

10. Kids are supposed to act like kids (so don’t be embarrassed or stressed when they do).

I just spent a morning with a seasoned mom of now young adults, and a former teacher. She told me that it’s important to remember that most of the time, our kids are acting like kids are supposed to act, and we shouldn’t be surprised or stressed or embarrassed if they don’t act like a mature adult all of the time. She also told me that she could tell the kids who loved to read and who’d been read to as a child, and that reading to our kids is the best thing we can do as a parent for their school preparation.

—Shelley Massey, Atlanta Editor
