One of the biggest challenges of motherhood can be trying to avoid comparing your experiences with others. No two kids are alike and neither are any birthing, feeding or parenting journeys. One mom’s viral post that there’s no trophy for parenthood is a helpful reminder all moms should read.

Mom of three Ashley Gibson recently shared the wise words her husband spoke when she was preparing to give birth to their third baby. “‘There’s no trophy Ashley’ The best 4 words my husband could have said to me in that delivery room. It put my whole world as a Mom into perspective,” Gibson shared in a Love What Matters post on Facebook which has since gone viral.

When Gibson later worried about supplementing breastmilk with formula, her husband repeated the same comforting words. “When I was fretting about supplementing with some formula those first few days and not wanting to feel like I was already failing at breastfeeding I heard those words again, ‘There’s no trophy Ashley.’”

That’s when it hit her, “As moms in today’s world it can feel like we’re all competing for a trophy that doesn’t exist. I literally thought in that delivery room that I would somehow be ‘less than’ as mother for tapping out and asking for the drugs. Like there would be a gold medal or AT LEAST a gold sticker on my medical chart for having a natural birth. And I felt like I was letting some invisible committee down when we bought formula to help him pass the amniotic fluid he had swallowed,” she continues in her moving post.

Its an important reminder to all moms, both new and seasoned, that there’s no competition and no judge in this crazy game of motherhood so we should all stop putting so much pressure on ourselves to meet some nonexistent standard. “The only trophy you’ll carry through life is the bond you create with your baby. And like I’ve said before, we all go home from the hospital with a big basket of mesh undies and sanitary pads the size of our newborns no matter how glamorous our Insta pics look,” Gibson concludes.

There’s nothing like a parade to lift your spirits and at one New York hospital, a duck parade is bringing much-needed smiles to patients.

Every year patients at the University of Rochester Thompson Health hospital get to watch one of the cutest parades they’ll ever see: a mother duck followed by her trail of babies making their way through the continuing care wing each Spring!

“Every year, without fail, a mama duck chooses one of the enclosed courtyards at our M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center to lay her eggs and take care of her babies,” staff wrote on the hospital’s Facebook page. “She lets us know when she’s ready to go by tapping on the glass, and this morning, it was time for this annual rite of spring.”

The ducks follow the same path every year, making their way through the hospital’s hallways, out the door and into a grass outside. This year 13 little ducklings prompted countless smiles thanks to the adorable parade.

Moving, Sweet Photo of Preemie Twins Meeting for the First Time Goes Viral

With the recent release of the third movie in the How to Train Your Dragon series comes news of the How to Train Your Dragon Hatchimal! The dragon-filled interactive hatching egg made its grand debut at the 2019 Toy Fair and is slated to hit stores next fall.

Inside the newest Hatchimal isn’t just any dragon—it’s the film’s adorable animated star: Toothless! Like other Hatchimals, Toothless moves and shakes—and his eyes light up too!—just to let your kiddo know he’s in there.

But that’s where the similarities end. Instead of sweetly rubbing and patting the egg to gently coax the creature out, your child needs to make this dragon mad. That means shaking, tapping and overall agitating Toothless until he hatches. After Toothless emerges from his egg your kiddo can feed him a fish-filled snack, teach him to fly or dive-bomb and watch him use his plasma blast. The dragon also roars or purrs, depends on his current mood.

Reports say the Toothless Hatchimal will retail for $60 and will be available sometime in August 2019.

In a digital world, too many job seekers use the knee-jerk strategy of trolling “black hole” online job boards. Women, especially, often feel more comfortable avoiding the necessary networking and research—which is a real detriment when you’re a mother looking for less-advertised flexible jobs.

Make this year THE year you get out of your comfort zone and continually build—little by little—an ever-expanding network of influential professionals. Today networking does not mean asking busy strangers to join you for an awkward discussion over lunch or coffee—or attending large networking meetings where it’s hard to approach people for conversations.

Technology eases the networking process and here are four simple networking resolutions if you want a flexible job that blends work and life.

1. Leverage LinkedIn

For all professionals LinkedIn is the place to be—it’s essential to have a strong presence. Since many employers don’t advertise flexible jobs, networking is the key to finding companies that believe their employees should in fact have a life. LinkedIn helps you engage influential professionals outside of your own networks.

Don’t ever say you’ve exhausted all your networking connections…it’s virtually impossible within a professional community of 500 million LinkedIn users. Need some help getting started? Check out this list of the 31 best LinkedIn profile tips for job seekers from The Muse.

2. Identify your unique skill set.

An “I’ll do anything” attitude is never a plus for job seekers. Employers want to fill specific gaps on their teams. When they’re looking for part-time or freelance professionals, for example, they want to see an even narrower portfolio of skills.

Permanent full-time employees tend to be generalists who have job descriptions that morph in many directions. Flexible workers are often experts who can zero in with precision on projects or initiatives.

3. Get out of your own head.

When it comes to flexible work, it’s easy to make lots of unfounded assumptions. Like “most employers aren’t flexible,” “there’s no flexibility in my industry,” “I’ll have to take a pay cut if I work in a flexible way.” You can’t draw conclusions based on a couple of articles you’ve read or a conversation or two with professionals in your field. Even a career coach cannot give you all the answers.

The best approach is networking research—tapping your LinkedIn connections (see above) for more comprehensive “insider data” about specific industries, companies and flexible opportunities that will fit and fund your life.

4. Become a detective.

The reality is that flexibility goes up as company size goes down. Lots of talented professionals get fed up with the big company bureaucracy and flee to their own ventures. They have great training, connections and clients—and the ability to be human about blending work and life. Search LinkedIn for people who have worked for big companies in your area and you’re likely to find more than a few who have gone the entrepreneurial route.

More and more women are acknowledging that continually earning, saving and investing is a form of caregiving for our families. And that does not mean a more-than-full-time, chained-to-your-desk corporate job—we all have lots of options to fit work around life and be the present and involved parents we want to be.

As a mother, coach, speaker and author, my book, Ambition Redefined, details my mission to keep women working toward financial security in a flexible way. I encourage no-apologies independence from the “lean in” mantra: find your own brand of ambition and success, take advantage of today’s flexible workplace, chart alternate career paths that accommodate and fund life.

The due date has finally arrived for the new Hatchimals HatchiBabies and these adorable babies are sure to be one of the most coveted toys this holiday season. Read on for cuteness overload! ‘

HatchiBabies, the newest addition to come from the Hatchery Nursery in Hatchtopia, come in two different species, Ponette and Cheetree. When you hatch your new toy, you are also treated to the surprise of finding out whether you have a boy or a girl. When you’re ready to hatch your new baby, just give the egg a few taps or snuggles. The egg will start to rock and your baby will sing “Rockabye Baby” to let you know it is about to hatch.

One of the most exciting parts of these new HatchiBabies is the accessories that come inside each HatchiBabies egg. For the first time ever, these speckled eggs will come packed with hidden compartments that can be opened after the babies hatch. Inside the compartments you’ll find some fun surprises to help you care for your new baby, like a bottle,  hairbrush and rattle.

You’ll also find a mini highchair inside to give your baby a place to sit and be fed. And of course, no birth would be complete without your very own birth certificate.

These baby Hatchimals need of a lot of love and care. Just like a real baby, they need to be fed and burped, but they will also respond to plenty of snuggles and a good tickle. They can also be taught to play baby games, like “find my toes,” and learn their first words.

In addition to Ponette and Cheetree, there are three very special HatchiBabies species you can only get at select stores. You can find adorable Chipadee HatchiBabies at Amazon, cheeky Monkiwi HatchiBabies at Target or cuddly Koalabee HatchiBabies at Walmart.

Chipadee HatchiBaby (Amazon.com)

Chipadee comes with all of the regular HatchiBabies accessories, as well as a cute little acorn—and you can only get it at Amazon.

Monkiwi HatchiBaby (Target)

The cheeky little Monkiwi you can only find at Target wouldn’t be complete without a banana for meal time noms.

Koalabee HatchiBaby (Walmart)

Walmart’s exclusive Koalabee comes with its very charm bracelet that your kiddo can customize.

You can bring home all the new HatchiBabies now for $59.99 each, sold online and in stores.

Hatchimals Is Hatching Up a Huge New Surprise for the Holidays

Have you ever read an article or a blog about the benefits of a sit-down dinner with your family. You quickly decide that from this point forward, you’re going to enforce that rule in your house too. Perfection: that’s what we’re after, right?

Well, we’re going to stop you right there…We’re two moms, just like you, living in a guilt-filled world of soccer games, math tutoring and yes, even sit-down family dinners. Oh you don’t have sit-down family dinners every night? Shame! Well, we say, shame on those who are shaming us! After all, the ideal version of what a family dinner should look like—a perfectly set table with smiling kids politely chatting away and parents happily doling out a homemade meal—well, isn’t actually all that ideal or practical these days.

Raise your virtual hand if you’ve ever had that “family sit-down dinner” in the car on the way to dance practice or ordered a “freshly cooked” meal from the local restaurant? We certainly have and we’re proudly closing up those takeout containers as we’re tap, tap, tapping away on our laptops! Let’s face it … life’s busy and far from perfect. So, let’s all take a breather and agree that no one’s perfect, dinner time is whatever everyone makes their best effort to have. The bottom line? We just want to have a moment to connect with our kids—that’s what gathering over a meal is really for: the potential for really amazing conversations and a chance to connect.

We know you’ve got the “How was your day?” question covered for opening up those mealtime chit chats, but have you tried asking your kids about the news? News topics are natural conversation starters. Whether it’s news about the latest space achievement or why athletes are kneeling during the national anthem, asking a question about something happening in the world right now—something real, relevant and interesting—sparks infinite amounts of lively conversations.

Each week, we at Xyza News produce a dinner table conversation question that’s linked to something happening in the news. So after you’ve asked your requisite “How was your day?” check in, try following it up with our weekly dinner table conversation question and watch the conversation sparks fly!

For our inaugural post on Red Tricycle, we’re starting with a simple but important question: What can you do to help the environment?

Here’s the scoop: Plastic straws have been in the news A LOT lately because of their negative impact on the environment. Many places around the world have banned these environmentally-pesky things and it looks like several companies are following suit.

Starbucks, for example, has decided to phase out plastic straws from all of its 28,000 stores by 2020. Any guess on how many straws that would eliminate per year? One billion! The solution? Starbucks plans to use unique lids that allow customers to drink cold drinks without hassle.

American Airlines and Hyatt Hotels have also promised to phase out straws in their operations, but the two companies are going about it a bit differently. Hyatt will offer straws only on demand beginning Sep. 1 and American Airlines will be using biodegradable straws instead of plastic ones. SeaWorld in San Diego, California, is also banning straws and plastic bags, and Bon Appétit will remove plastic straws from all of its restaurants by 2019! It just goes to show how one small act can produce a ripple effect of planet-friendly choices around the world.

Talk to your kids about what you can do to help the environment! What have they learned—and more importantly, what can they teach you?
