Santa is gaining a very familiar companion in a newly announced sequel to Netflix’s The Christmas Chronicles. Goldie Hawn is joining Kurt Russell in the new movie.

Real life couple Hawn and Russell will be playing the jolliest pair in the North Pole, Mr. and Mrs. Claus. While Netflix just shared a sneak peek, fans will have to wait till next Christmas to see the movie when it debuts during the 2020 holiday season.

The Christmas Chronicles follows the story of a young girl, Kate Pierce, and her brother, Teddy, after they sneak aboard Santa’s sleigh and crash it. Together they must help the jolly old elf in order to save Christmas.

According to the film’s synopsis, The Christmas Chronicles 2 will see Kate returning to the North Pole when a “troublemaker” named Belsnickel “threatens to destroy Christmas forever.”

If you wear a fitness tracking device chances are you spend each day counting down the steps till you reach that victorious 10,000 steps mark, but do really need to take that many steps each day to be healthy? New research says maybe not.

When you’re chasing a toddler around all day you might not even need a lot of extra motivation to get all your steps in each day, but when it’s almost bedtime and you see those steps clocking in below 10,000 it can make you feel a little defeated. A new study finds that you might not gain any extra benefits from hitting that goal, however.

photo: Rawpixel

The study published in in JAMA Internal Medicine found that getting only about half that many steps per day are linked to a decreased risk of early death for older women. It also found that the benefits start to plateau over 7,500 steps per day.

While this study was focused on women ages 62 to 101, other recent research has pointed to the fact that any exercise provides health benefits for people of all ages and is better than none at all. One study found that just replacing 30 minutes of sitting with any kind of movement lowered risk of early death by 17 percent.

“Just do a little bit. If you just do a little bit, you’re better off,” says study co-author I-Min Lee, a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and epidemiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. “Don’t be discouraged if you don’t meet 10,000 steps.”

If you spent your own childhood afternoons trotting the globe to unravel the mystery location of Carmen Sandiego, you’ll be excited to learn that you can soon pass that love of geography trivia on to your own kids.

While nothing has been officially confirmed yet, according to a recent report by Tracking Board, Netflix is developing a reboot of Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego? The original series, which was based on a video game of the same name, was an iconic series on PBS in the 90’s with an unforgettably catchy theme song.

The new show would be an animated series with Jane The Virgin’s Gina Rodriguez starring as the voice of the well-travelled Carmen Sandiego. It might be awhile till the series actually makes it to Netflix, so in the meantime treat yourself (and your kids) to a nostalgic trip down memory lane with the Rockappella theme song below.

We love moms who keep it real, and we’re convinced that’s why a post by Australian blogger Olivia White is going viral. Olivia penned a post on her blog, House of White, titled “20 Crappy Mum Confessions” and moms everywhere are relating to her hilarious admissions. Check out our five favorite confessions below, then read all of them on her blog.

2. I smelt poo, but I waited till my husband noticed it so I didn’t have to change it.

9. I told my daughter her annoying phone toy was broken when really I just removed the batteries.

13. I use my kids to get out of social engagements all the time. “Sorry, babe, the baby’s really sick so we’re gonna stay home.”

16. I let my toddler eat from the bag of grapes while we’re shopping just to keep her quiet.

20. I have a ‘wine allowance’ in our weekly shopping budget.

Kids love frolicking in the sea (as do we), but unfortunately, the beach is a few hours away from the concrete jungle of D.C. Lucky for us, the National Building Museum has created an ocean city in the middle of the nation’s capital. No worries if your little ones can’t quite handle jumping over waves because this ocean doesn’t require the use of a flotation device. Appropriately called the BEACH, this summer paradise features almost one million plastic balls and 50 feet of “shoreline”. Sun worshipers can lounge by the “water’s edge,” grab food from the snack bar, and even play beach games. Got your attention? Then read on for deets on the district’s latest attraction.

10,000 Square Feet
No, that wasn’t a typo. The BEACH covers 10,000 square feet so you can rest easy knowing your little one won’t be body surfing over other swimmers or blocking anyone’s rays when reading by the edge of the water. Covering most of the Great Hall, the BEACH uses building materials such as scaffolding, wooden panels, and perforated mesh to create the ocean ambience we all know and love. Everything is clad in stark white, and features a mirrored wall to create an infinite reflected expanse.

Hungry Swimmers
Forget the traditional snow cones and cotton candy often found at the shore. No outside food is allowed, but rumbling tummies are placated by goodies from Union Kitchen, the DC-based food incubator featuring more than 50 foodie groups including pizza, pickles, cupcakes, and more.

Playtime
While little ones can “swim” till their heart’s content, kids (and grownups!) will be able to lounge under umbrellas, snooze in beach chairs and (or) play a variety of beach games (think: paddleball, Frisbee, and volleyball). For those of you who absolutely can’t have a beach day without a boardwalk or a pier, fear not – families can dangle their legs off the BEACH’s pier while daydreaming.

The Best Part
No sunscreen! Since this “ocean” adventure fits neatly into the National Building Museum, there’s no sunscreen to apply, hats to wear, or sand to wash out of places we didn’t even know existed. So leave the giant beach bag and plastic toys at home, and get ready to jump in!

401 F St., NW (Judiciary Square)
Cost: $16/adults; $13/kids

Remember when you unwound from the week with three martinis and a dance-off that lasted till 2 a.m.? Well, now that you’re a parent we are betting your “unwind time” looks a little different. Here are the ten luxuries that every parent wishes for.

Photo: Club MomMe

1. A bathroom security guard.
A burly bouncer to stand outside the bathroom door and prevent anyone from barging in or shouting requests or grievances in the general direction of the sacred space.

2. A full-time broom operator.
They follow behind your brood 24 hrs a day sweeping up crumbs, cereal, pet fur and, yes, even splattered yogurt.

3. A bedtime genie.
Your three wishes are “get in bed, go to sleep and stay asleep.” Granted.

4. An all-expenses paid night in a hotel.
All alone, with high thread-count sheets and an Ambien.

5. A birthday gift delivery app.
Just enter the party date, age, and birthday kid’s interest, and an all 24 birthday parties of your kids classmates are taken care of.

6. A personal chef who specializes in packed lunches.
You will never battle with bento boxes again.

7. A full interior car detail (carseat included).
They will remove Every. Single. Cheerio.

8. A professional photo organizer.
They will open up IPhoto, and they won’t leave until everything is sorted by date and event, your children all have respectable, physical albums and there’s a back-up of it all on flash drives.

9. A butt-wiper.
Self-explanatory.

10. An at-home masseuse.
One that won’t judge you for wanting to stream the new season of Orange is the New Black during the rub down.

What parental luxuries would you wish for? Tell us in the comments below!
