1. Snowflake Lane
If you really want to delight your kid crew this season, head to this Bellevue Christmas event to celebrate with lights, music, and dancing at the annual holiday spectacular Snowflake Lane. With the expansion of the Bellevue Collection comes an expanded party complete with an extended parade route going from N.E. 4th to N.E. 8th Streets, falling snow, and all your favorite holiday characters. And best of all, Santa joins the fun every night during the parade to help spread the cheer. Plus, all season long, Santa will be available for photos inside Bellevue Square Mall at the Snowflake Lane Factory.
Insider Tip: Expect crowds each night, so arrive early and plan accordingly. Early dinner reservations at one of the numerous restaurants will get you parked and near the action early. 2. The Bellevue Downtown Ice Rink presented by Symetra
Bellevue’s popular ice rink is back and in full effect at Downtown Bellevue Park. Boasting our region’s largest open-air ice rink (over 9,000 square feet of real ice), this prime skating spot is covered and open for skating, rain or shine. Remember to book your tickets in advance for this Eastside holiday event. Redmond Lights celebrates the city of Redmond's diverse holiday traditions, cultures, and faiths. This year the festival lasts all month long and it's free to experience. Explore the various art and light installations at Downtown Park. This season, experience something totally new at the annual Issaquah Reindeer Festival at Cougar Mountain Zoo. This up-close and personal zoo not only features the unique sights of Santa’s reindeer but a chance to sit in Santa's sleigh and take a picture with him in his house. During this month-long Eastside holiday event, kids can hear a story from one of Santa's elves and drop their Christmas wish lists in Santa's personal mailbox, plus feed treats to Santa’s other animals and meet his kittens and his Candy Cane makers.
Good to Know: Santa returns to the North Pole after December 25, but you can still see his reindeer through December 30.
Enjoy the lovely light displays at Gene Coulon Memorial Park in Renton. This dazzling display, designed for the whole fam, covers a mile-long loop around the park. That's right—education and festive treats in one activity—a win-win in our book.
The Pacific Northwest doesn't get a whole lot of snow, so sometimes we all have to get creative to make our own snowy fun. Kelsey Creek Farm will do just that when you and your kids stop by for its Winter Wonderland activity. Expect to make wonderfully wintery crafts, visit some furry animals who know how to keep warm in the snow, and then warm up with some hot cocoa. There are two date and times families can participate in this activity, depending on your kid's age. Registration is required, and Bellevue residents get a discount.

In fact, with so many things to do in downtown Seattle, you and the kids don’t need to go anywhere else to find (or spread) winter cheer. Our list (don’t worry, we checked it twice) includes everything from Santa sightings and steamy cups of hot cocoa paired with carolers to festive music, dancing nutcrackers, and a lot more. So get out your calendar, it’s time to schedule the Seattle Christmas events you really want to make time for this season.
Seattle holiday events you won’t want to miss
Kringle's Filling Station
Kringle's Filling Station
Part arcade, part neighborhood hangout, Kringle's Filling Station is perfect for families with older children. This pop-up event has set up shop along Aurora Ave. at an old gas station. Legend has it that the Kringle Family has come to offer hot chocolate out of the old gas tanks (don't worry, it's completely safe and sanitary!), let guests play unlimited rounds of "Ski-Ball", play "Reindeer Games" or sing holiday karaoke. You even have exclusive access to the Kringles' private office. Add-ons include the brand-new Speedway Slot Cars and photo booth aboard Santa's new-and-improved sleigh (you'll have to see it to believe it).
Insider Tip: Santa's scheduled to visit the Filling Station December 1, 9, 16 and 22. And Krampus will be making an appearance on December 20 and 21.

We are beyond thrilled to see that the annual Gingerbread Village is back at the Sheraton Grand Seattle this year. If you've never been or if it has been a while, this really is a must-see event. Now in its 28th year, the event matches Seattle's top architecture firms, master builders, and the Sheraton Grand Seattle's culinary teams to create amazing works of edible art. This year's theme is focusing on Buzz Lightyear, but don't be surprised if a few other Toy Story characters show up too. Some of the gingerbread creations have great names like "Courage Against Zurg," "The Future is Bright," and of course, "To Infinity and Beyond!" While the exhibit is free, donations will be gladly accepted to go to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation (JDRF).

Seattle Center is doing it up for the holidays starting the day after Thanksgiving and running through the New Year. If you're looking for free and affordable holiday activities and entertainment, head to the heart of the city. Kids can marvel as a miniature locomotive makes it way through a turn-of-the-century village inside the Armory and complete a scavenger hunt while they're at it (you'll find sheets at the train station). Follow it up with a weekend ice sculpting demonstration or a live performance at the Armory (hint: we're looking forward to the School of Rock Seattle performance on December 10, SANCA's youth performers on December 17, and the KlezKids performance on the 24th) before grabbing something tasty for dinner. Wander through the Campus Luminata light display and end at the International Fountain where things are always hopping before heading home.
Holiday highlight: Take a trip to the top of the Space Needle to grab a picture with jolly old St. Nick in his glass sleigh. Seeing the city's Christmas lights below are totally worth the trip. As for New Year's Eve, plan an evening of music at Seattle Center, or if your kids won't last that long, plan to spend the day at the Seattle Children's Museum for their Winter Market Event featuring a "Noon Year's Eve" pj party and a sock skating rink.
While you're at Seattle Center, be sure to swing into Chihuly Garden and Glass to see Winter Brilliance. The display features over 700 hand-blown glass sculptures and combines glass art, video projection technology, and music for a full-sensory experience. One of the newest Seattle Christmas events, it celebrates the magic of the season in a whole new way. Catch the show in Gallery 1 into the new year when you visit.
With lavish sets and costumes designed by Ian Falconer (of Olivia fame) and the ever-mesmerizing choreography of Balanchine, Pacific Northwest Ballet’s George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker is a forever favorite for many Seattle families. This full-length show is best suited for school-aged kids, but theatergoers of all ages will be glued to their seats for the entire two-plus hour show, basking in the care and craftsmanship of this delightful production. The 40-foot-tall Christmas tree, snow flurries on stage and Mother Ginger’s magical skirt (it weighs more than 60 pounds!) are all part of what makes this production one of the best around.
Insider Tip: A sensory-friendly performance is scheduled for December 21 at 2 p.m.
Another theater production you won't want to miss is SCT's latest. Even the tiniest theater lovers will be able to enjoy this holiday show, starring their favorite clumsy Bear, Paddington. With his telltale red hat and blue coat, they’ll fall for Paddington’s innocent antics as he works to save Christmas from being a total disaster. It all starts out simply enough—with Paddington and Mrs. Bird making the holiday marmalade (for Paddington’s sandwiches, of course). But oops!—they’ve run out of sugar. A trip to borrow some from grumpy neighbor, Mr. Curry, turns into more than Paddington bargained for when he agrees to help out with household chores in exchange. Things sort of snowball from there, leaving poor Paddington to fix it all before December 25. The show runs for 70 minutes with no intermission.

Ride the monorail from Seattle Center to Westlake Park to take advantage of this larger-than-life holiday display that features over 80,000 lights. All season long, enjoy memory-making moments with Holiday Lights & Delights and enjoy free, family-friendly activities at Westlake Park and Occidental Square each weekend. Don't forget your phones! In addition, enjoy live music by local artists on Fridays (Dec. 9 & 16) from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. at Westlake Park. This is where you'll also find Family Fun featuring crafts, characters, and snow flurries on Saturday, December 10 and 17. Or you can head on over to Pioneer Square on the same days to hear live carolers while sipping free cocoa and munching on cookies from noon-3 p.m.
For one weekend only, families can enjoy this pop-up ice skating rink in downtown Seattle. Free for everyone, the ice rink will be filled with skaters of all ages and abilities. If you’ve got your own skates, bring them along. If not, they’ll have skates on hand to borrow. Just remember to bundle up—this rink is totally outside.
Big bears, lil’ bears, brown bears, white bears! This beary special holiday event is a must-see for kids of all ages. Located inside the elegant Fairmont Olympic Hotel, the Teddy Bear Suite is exactly that and so much more. See teddy bears galore along with beautiful holiday decorations and Christmas trees. The Teddy Bear Suite is also the perfect spot to grab a holiday photo of the kids (think: cute, cuddly holiday cards) or chillax and enjoy a teddy bear-themed book. Psst! After visiting the Teddy Bear Suite on the second floor, stop by the lower lobby to check out the hotel's magnificent gingerbread display made out of 4,000 real gingerbread bricks.

Did you know that when Santa isn’t supervising elves and delivering toys, he's scuba diving? Come see for yourself when he dives in the Seattle Aquarium’s Window on Washington Waters exhibit this holiday season. While you're there, enjoy live holiday music, story times with Santa, marine mammal meet and greets, and more. Santa and pals will be taking to the water on three different dates this year. Catch him at noon or 3 p.m. on December 17 and 18 or at noon on Christmas Eve.
Urban Craft Uprising at South Lake Union Winter Market
Families can shop 'til they drop at Urban Craft Uprising's annual outdoor winter show, held outside the Nitro Building in South Lake Union. Macy's Santaland at Herald Square: Santa is back in person at Macy's Santaland at 34th Street. You must make a reservation in advance, which you can do up to five days ahead of time. Can't make it to the store? No worries: Macy's offers a cool virtual visit with Santa. And don't forget—you can still go see Macy's holiday windows at 34th Street.

Santa at Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park: Details have yet to be announced about when Santa will stop by the Winter Village at Bryant Park, but watch this space for when he'll appear. Winter Village is a great place to see St. Nick, as you can also skate, shop, take in the tree, and get a cup of cocoa and a snack.
Santaland at Bloomingdale's: Details for Santaland at Bloomingdale's are not yet available but in the past he's been there on weekends through Dec. 24, and visitors can snap a photo with Santa Claus in a private 20-minute meet and greet. Select a traditional "North Pole" setting or a special "South Pole" setting, the latter of which is a bit more modern, pink and Instagram-friendly. All appointments will receive a complimentary digital and print photo, as well as a sweet treat.

Santa at PaleyLand: The Paley Center for Media has an almost month-long classic holiday extravaganza, PaleyLand. Beginning Wednesday, Dec. 16, visitors will be able to enjoy all kinds of holiday events and programming throughout the center's four floors. That includes (among many other fun things) Instagrammable photo opportunities with Santa Claus as well as a 7-foot-tall menorah.

Big Apple Portraits: Want Santa all to yourself? Book a private photo session with Santa Lonnie from Big Apple Portraits. You can have your shoot with Santa at the Upper West studio or outdoors in Central Park, which makes for a great time to show off your cute winter wear. This Santa is high energy and playful—you can even tie him up in Christmas lights if you want. Sessions are a quick 10 minutes, must be booked in advance, and book up quickly.

Town Square's Cookies with Santa: Traditionally a brunch affair, this event has gone sweets and treats. Enjoy delicious, homemade cookies, hot chocolate, coffee, music, and, of course, precious moments with Santa. Plus: yummy-delicious holiday drinks at a cash bar for moms and dads. Take your own photo, or a pro photographer will be on hand to take pictures for purchase, and Elsa from Frozen often shows up as well. Buy now—tickets go fast. Proceeds benefit Town Square and local Boy Scouts Pack 7 and Troop 26.
St. Nicholas Day Celebration: At this free holiday event at the Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum, St. Nicholas arrives on horseback (look for him around 2:30 p.m.). He will tell the traditional tale of "The Bakers Dozen" and children are invited to sign the Red Book. Sip hot cider, try your hand at colonial games, create a holiday pomander, decorate a Dutch clog for Sinterklaas, and dress the tree for the tree lighting that will close the day as the sun goes down. While St. Nicholas might not be posing for photos with kids this year there will definitely be a holiday photo booth available where you can snap your shot as a family.

Santa at Queens Center Mall: Santa will be at the Queens Center Mall for Winter Wonderland visits late November through Christmas Eve. Meeting with Santa is always free (photos are not), and it's highly recommended that you make a reservation.
Nicholas Day Celebration: Come out to The Vander-Ende Onderdonk House to sing carols and enjoy a hot cup of apple cider and a cookie. The indoors will be decorated seasonally, so you can get that great, festive photo with St. Nicholas. Kids also take home a goody bag. Tickets are by reservation for timed entry.

Santa Brunch Cruise 2022: Want to meet Santa on a boat? Hop on this two hour Christmas brunch cruise with Event Cruises NYC and take amazing photos with Old St. Nick with New York's most iconic landmarks as your backdrop. A three-course brunch will be served to the tune of festive holiday DJ music, and you might even get up and dance.

Sensory Friendly Santa: Many malls with Santa picture setups in the New York City area have scheduled sensory-friendly Santa days in partnership with Autism Speaks, but make sure to reserve your spot in advance. These are more private sessions where the light and sound will be turned down lower to make things more comfortable for those with sensory, physical, and developmental needs. This year the majority of Sensory Friendly Santa visits will be on Dec. 4 (see below), although times vary throughout the morning.
You can also visit with a Sensitive Santa at one of our favorite Christmas Tree spots, Santa's Christmas Tree Farm on Long Island. The exact time and date of this event is not yet established, so keep an eye on the website.

Looking for an NYC restaurant that serves up major holiday cheer with a side of, you know, food? Nearly a dozen New York City restaurants do Christmas decorations with extra flair, from elegant to over-the-top, year after year. Whether you want a quick bite or a big Christmas dinner, this is where you can enjoy the most festive decorations while you dine. Understated, need not apply. And if you’re still hungry for more twinkle, cap off your meal by seeing a holiday lights display nearby. If, however, the garland and mistletoe and blinking lights are too much (is there such a thing?!), you can always try a fun non-holiday-themed restaurant instead.
Get cozy in one of the rooftop cabins at the Seaport District's The Greens. With floor-to-ceiling views, virtual fireplaces, room for 10, and real heat, the cabins aim to offer a little bit of "upstate downtown." Make sure to order the jumbo s'mores for dessert.
Forget heading to a ski chalet. Instead, head downtown to Industry Kitchen, an industrial chic space located at the South Street Seaport, for some of the most extensive holiday decorations in town. We’re talking 5,000 square feet of sparkling lights, Christmas greenery, giant reindeer families on the terrace, snow-flocked Christmas trees, and wreaths along with two tall nutcrackers at the entryway. And then there are the tasty treats your kids will go love such as Gingernut Pizza with a ginger crust, eggnog frosting, and so much more. Yum!
At Lillie’s Victorian Establishment in Times Square, you’ll feel like you walked onto the Love, Actually set. It’s so festive in this Victorian-inspired restaurant tucked right in the same block as two Broadway theaters, you won’t want to leave. The place is decorated to the max with thousands of sparkling garlands, tinsel-bright baubles, life-sized Nutcracker soldiers, and bedecked Christmas trees. Your kids will love the chicken fingers (they’re some of the tastiest in the city) or try the buttermilk pancakes if brunch is more your scene. We love Lillie's year-round—it's one of our favorite places for brunch with kids.
The reigning champion of NYC restaurant Christmas decorations, Rolf’s Bar & Restaurant features such awe-inspiring Christmas décor that this German eatery has achieved bucket-list status for most New Yorkers. Order up some potato pancakes with applesauce (hamburgers and meatloaf are other family-friendly faves) and spend the rest of the meal marveling at the 150,000 antique glass ornaments hanging from the ceiling, and the ancient-looking dolls in between.
For the quintessential Christmas in New York, head to this Central Park landmark. Tavern on The Green brings the Yuletide cheer with glistening décor including its very own 20-foot Christmas tree with over 2,000 ornaments and 10,000 lights. The bar room is full of greenery, a Christmas tree, and lights, and boughs and lights adorn the exterior of the restaurant as well. Adding to the scene is the frequent live jazz, and you and the kids can warm up after a jaunt in the park with spiced cider or hot chocolate.
For holiday decor with a Parisian flair and a side of pommes frites, head to the elegant La Grande Boucherie. Celebrated for its authentic French cuisine, the restaurant is decorated in an Art Nouveau style and features slim, twinkling trees and a large evergreen decked out for the holidays. To be fair, it's kind of always Christmas (and 4th of July) at this Prospect Heights, Brooklyn institution, which has been serving up breakfast all day since 1936. (Many of the decorations, from twinkling lights and tinsel to American flags stay up year-round.) Still, Tom's busts out some extra decorations for the holidays, and the perpetual good cheer and goodwill of the joint gets turned up to 11.
Established in 1864, this Gramercy Park bar and restaurant holds a lot of history. During the holidays, it gets extra cozy with a striking canopy of tiny red lights over the bar, Christmas decorations throughout, and a festive exterior with lights, wreaths, and holiday villages in the windows. The menu includes hearty dishes, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and more. Plus, there's a kid's menu, and they do brunch as well on the weekends.
We definitely approve of an outdoor beer garden that hangs tough during the winter. Chicago Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Millenium Park
Kick off the holiday season at the 109th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. The Millenium Park Christmas tree is considered the "official" Chicago tree. There will be performances by a DJ and Cabaret ZaZou, Son Monarcas, Broadway In Chicago: Wicked’s Lissa deGuzman “Elphaba” and Jennafer Newberry “Glinda” singing “For Good”, Jumaane Taylor and Chicago Human Rhythm Project's Stone Soup Rhythms; and special guests Dreezy Claus and Sister Claus preceding the lighting at 6pm. The lighting will be followed by fireworks and a performance by Adia, an Electric Violinist and DJ.
Rosemont’s Parkway Bank Park entertainment district kicks off the holiday season with its Light Up the Park event. A variety of family-friendly festivities will be available from 2-6 p.m., including visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, free horse-drawn sleigh rides, carolers, and ice sculpting viewing. The 80,000 holiday lights will be lit, for the first time, at 5:30 p.m. The ice rink will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Parkway Bank Park’s restaurants and entertainment venues will also be open throughout the day.
The event will take place at the intersection of Lincoln, Southport, and Wellington outside of St. Alphonsus Church, and it will include holiday tunes and carolers, festive gift bags, and surprise appearances from Elsa, Olaf, and Santa. Enjoy complimentary hot cocoa, coffee, and donuts.
Celebrate with a night of festive fun as the holiday lights are turned on at North School Park. There will be tons of family fun. Dickens era characters will be on trolleys, looping from Harmony Park to North School Park, 3:45 p.m.-6:45 p.m., sharing stories about Arlington Heights in the past. Blackberry Farm Holiday Express
And what to your wondering eyes should appear? A decorated miniature open-air train that runs continuously through Aurora’s living-history museum. Catch the Holiday Express train around Lake Gregory amidst thousands of twinkling lights. It’s part of the farm’s annual Victorian Christmas celebration, Holiday Express, which includes music, storytelling in a historic schoolhouse, a visit from Santa, craft stations and a Reindeer Food Bar. Tickets go on sale Nov. 10.
Santa and his merry band of elves will make an appearance on every El line this holiday season. In fact, the big guy in red comes jingling his way through in grand style, pulled in a sled by faux reindeer. A gift from the Chicago Transit Authority, the festive El—decked out in colored lights, garland, bows and tinsel—arrives with pomp and glee, leaving you and your little ones smiling ear to ear long after your stop. The Dance-Along Nutcracker at the Chicago Cultural Center
The Dance-Along Nutcracker is any budding ballerina's dream come true, with the opportunity to participate in a short workshop with Ballet Chicago, and then watch them perform an abbreviated version of the classic ballet at eye level. The dancers are accompanied by the Lakeside Pride Symphonic Band under the gorgeous rotunda of the Chicago Cultural Center. The tiny dancers are frequently invited on stage to twirl, leap, and sachet alongside the professionals. This year's details have not yet been announced, but be on the lookout!
The Music Institute of Chicago presents its holiday tradition, Duke It Out! Nutcracker, featuring the classical (Tchaikovsky) and jazz (Duke Ellington/Billy Strayhorn) versions of the holiday favorite in a music and dance performance. The performance is a family-friendly 60 minutes and is preceded by an interactive musical instrument "petting zoo." For those who can't attend in person, the show is also available via livestream.

If you don't score tickets to the actual lighting, you can still visit the tree every day after it is lit on Dec. 2 through Jan. 1, from 4:30-10 p.m.

3. Atlantic Station Christmas Lights - Celebration at the Station
Snow in Atlanta? You bet—when you head to Atlantic Station for the free nightly celebration that's all about spreading holiday cheer. The whole thing kicked off on November 19 with a tree lighting and holiday disco. But if you missed it, you can still bring the kids to see these towering Christmas lights, Atlanta families. They'll be on nightly as part of a light and snow show (we told you) that go along with a video. Pair it with a night of ice skating around the ribbon and you've got yourself a real holiday tradition in the making.
World of Illumination is back with a breathtaking drive-through Christmas light experience kids and families will love. Consider it the ultimate holiday activity for all ages—from tots to grandparents, and everyone, in between. Although families could enjoy this display last year at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, this year you can only find this dazzling show at Six Flags White Water in Marietta. Reindeer Road will feature millions of colorful lights and animated displays synchronized to holiday music. Plan to slowly make your way along the one-mile-long display in about 25-30 minutes—the perfect amount of time for families with small kids. They'll stay riveted so you can enjoy the show too.

5. IllumiNights: A Chinese Lantern Festival - Zoo Atlanta Christmas Lights

7. Lakeside Lights at Margaritaville Lanier Islands
Go on a magical walk through an amazing light show set to festive seasonal music. Unlike your typical holiday light show, this one is a dazzling lighting extravaganza, and you can take a break along the way for cocktails, hot chocolate, and s'mores. But we think the kids will love it if you pair your light viewing with a trip to Snow Island, where the whole fam can go tubing, ice skating, and hop on some seriously fun carnival rides.

There's a reason this display in Pine Mountain is considered one of the best in the world. With 10 million lights spread out over 2,500 acres this year—Fantasy in Lights' 30th—promises to be the best one yet. Families can walk or drive through the display, taking in all that holiday cheer along the way. If you ask us, this Christmas light experience is worth the 90 minute trek from Atlanta. Even if it's just to see this year's newest addition—Celebration Lake. It features 30 dancing trees, one for each year the display has been open. Don’t forget to hit the Christmas Village before you head back home. Filled with ornaments, treats, and the Big Guy himself (photos available), the kids will love the chance to stretch their legs and marinate in the merriment.
Holiday Lights are back at Brook Run Park, and this year's theme is Candy Land—talk about kid appeal! Starting December 1, families can walk through this display that features 85,000 twinkling lights shaped as ice cream cones, gumball machines, chocolate volcano cake, milkshakes, and more. There's even an ice cream truck you'll be able to walk through (anyone else thinking photo op?)

Another walk-thru light display option for families with Littles who can't go too far, Stone Mountain decks the halls with millions of lights, and offers plenty of options for keeping the kids entertained—from taking a ride on the train (decorated for the holidays and rockin’ some jolly tunes) to taking in a visit with Santa, Rudolph, or the Bumble. Get there early and take a ride on Atlanta's only snow-covered slope. We're looking forward to the Christmas light show and fireworks finale at the end of the day. 11. Lights of Life at Life University
Talk about some holiday spirit. This incredible light exhibit is a zero-profit event for Life University in Marietta that boasts the tallest Santa and his sleigh display in the Southeast. New displays are added yearly, and the entire arrangement is unique each year. Be sure to hit the petting zoo, train rides, pony rides, and visit with Santa before you leave, but you might want to wait until after driving-through the light exhibit to tell the littles. You won’t be able to keep them in the car, otherwise.
Experience all the warmth and charm of a Southern Family Christmas at Pettit Creek Farms! Take a lovely drive or hayride through more than a mile of beautiful Christmas lights. You only need to pay for one option, either the hayride or the drive thru. Experience a nativity (animals on Saturday) and meet the animals at the petting zoo. Getting chilly? Warm up by the fire and enjoy s’mores, funnel cakes, hot chocolate, and more from a convenient concession stands.
Tune your radio to 107.7 FM and prepare to rock around the Christmas tree. The display runs 6–10 pm nightly. This generous family hosts fundraisers year-round for their favorite charity, and the holiday season is no different. Donations of money, pet food, and supplies are accepted on behalf of Angels Among Us Animal Rescue.
With 1 million lights, this is the biggest residential Christmas lights display in Georgia. Nightly shows run from Sunday, November 27, through Sunday, January 1, 2023, from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. The family encourages visitors to park across the street at the Influencers Church and walk to see the lights. What do Star Wars and Hanukkah have in common? Only one of the best inflatable and lights displays in Atlanta. And it isn't just one house. Head to Springfield Drive in Dunwoody to get a boost of Hanukkah spirit.
After Thanksgiving, you can cruise past this elaborate, annual display to see festive holiday lights, animations, and synchronization (turn your car radio to 101.9 FM to hear the music).
With more than 100,000 lights and a 35-foot Frosty the Snowman, this family decorates in super-size. Free to drive by or walk past, the Portwood family is collecting packs of new socks for ages 6-13 for the Paulding County Sheriff's Office. You'll find them with the lights on November 25-December 10, from Sunday through Thursday, 6–10 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday, from 6–11 p.m.
This Cumming neighborhood lights up its streets and homes in a spectacular way one night in December, raising money for local causes. This year's event date has yet to be released, but you can check Facebook or Instagram for updates. Hit it on the magical night of lights for a chance to see Santa, a live nativity scene, falling snow, and hot cocoa.

"HOLIDAY MAGIC" is a free nightly Atlanta holiday light show, put on annually by the Woodruff family, featuring dancing Christmas lights, inflatables, and special effects synchronized to holiday music. With a history of doing a musical tribute to Prince, this may be the funkiest family light show around. The show will open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving and run nightly from 6 p.m. to midnight through January.
This Stone Mountain family has been decorating their home for over 25 years with only the help of family, friends, and neighbors, and they’re proud to provide a “whole LOT of Christmas” each year. With a Christmas tree forest, snowflake lane, gingerbread land, North Pole Cafe, Disney section, nativity, and Santa, this family endeavor is big enough to inspire even the worst Grinch to string a light or two. Check hours of operation and details on their Facebook page when planning your trip. Admission is free, but donations are accepted for a charity of the family’s choice each year.

For over 20 years, this family in Fayetteville has put on a Christmas light extravaganza, complete with an operating Ferris wheel and thousands of lights. There is no admission, visitors must remain in their vehicles for safety, and donations for March of Dimes and Toys for Tots are welcome. The Gaddy family keeps the lights on from Thanksgiving through January 1 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
This crowd-favorite private home has thousands of lights; you’ll want to put a trip to see it on your winter bucket list. The display will be nightly from Friday, November 20 through December 31, from 6 p.m.-10 pm. Please keep in mind that in the event of severe weather (wind, heavy rain, or snow), they may not have the display. Check their Facebook page by 4 p.m. daily for any weather-related changes.
In addition to the lights, the family holds an annual holiday food drive for the community food pantry at First Baptist Duluth. Drop your non-perishable items in the bin at the driveway's end.

1. Christmas Tree Lighting at the Manhattan Beach Pier
Manhattan Beach does more than just light a Christmas tree on its annual holiday lighting event—it lights up all 900-feet of its popular pier, with the totem "tree" (which is really just strings of lights forming a massive cone) jutting up from the roof of the end-of-the-pier aquarium. The festivities start at 5 p.m. with a visit from Santa, then continues all night long leading up to the lighting ceremony. Throughout the night, all the Downtown shops hand out free holiday treats in honor of the event—and kids will want to stop and see the live reindeer (!) in front of Pages, the quaint beach town's popular small bookstore. Throughout the night, roving carolers will be strolling the streets, singing holiday songs to all who listen—and the local school choirs will sing leading up to the lighting ceremony, at which point the town mayor flips the switch and the crowds are allowed to walk down the newly-illuminated pier.

Pump up your holiday spirit by visiting Beverly Hills' dazzling display of holiday light installations, all running nightly through Jan. 1. These include "Glowing Gardens" at Beverly Cañon Gardens, "Lights on the Lily Pond" at Beverly Gardens Park, and "Unwrap the Magic" at Beverly Hills City Hall Tower. There will be also be live caroling, dancing, craft-making and more at Greystone Mansion and Gardens’ holiday celebration on Dec. 3-4.
Keep kids up past their bedtimes for the shopping destination's 20th annual star-studded tree lighting extravaganza, which willfeature live performances from Gloria Estefan, Andy Grammer, Little Big Town, and David Foster & Kat McPhee. This year's spectacular is being held in partnership with CBS for its “A Home for the Holidays at The Grove” TV special. The hourlong special, which will air Dec. 23 on CBS, aims to shine a light on the thousands of American children in foster care and help get these kids into "forever families."
The cameras will be rolling, so make sure you and your brood are "Lights, camera, action!"-ready as you gather around the Grove's 100-foot-tall white fir tree, which will be adorned in 15,000 sparking lights and 10,000 ornaments. The forecast also calls for a (faux) snowfall—and fireworks—so kids will be sufficiently wowed.
Of course, with all the glitz and glamour on stage, the only star your kid will want to see is Santa. And word has it that he'll be making an appearance, too—so get those holiday wish lists in order!
Your little elves can make lots of merriment in DTLA with the official lighting of Los Angeles County’s Christmas tree at the Music Center's 35,000-square foot outdoor plaza. Enjoy the sweet sounds of holiday favorites from local music artists and community groups, then gather around the magnificent 75-foot-tall tree to watch it twinkle with holiday lights. Word has it, there may even be hot chocolate.

5. Christmas Tree Lighting at Union Station
The historic station will illuminate its towering tree with thousands of glistening lights on the majestic South Patio as snow drifts from the sky in a classic kickoff to the holiday season. The festive, family-friendly celebration will also feature performances from the vintage voices of The Beverly Belles and party band, Weekend Celebrity, along with a “live” mural from eclectic artist Septerhed and special appearance from the North Pole's most special guy. There will also be a holiday arts and crafts zone, custom photo opps, Santa selfies, and free hot cocoa and holiday cookie bars.

If you want to get your holiday shopping done while you're celebrating the kickoff of the holiday season, head to the Santa Monica Promenade, where the city's annual holiday celebration, Winterlit, transforms Third Street Promenade and Downtown Santa Monica into an immersive Yuletide experience, with tens of thousands of lights and a smorgasbord of seasonal decor at every turn. The grand lighting of the Promenade's 24-foot-tall tree is an all-out extravaganza that will feature performances by local school groups, free photos with Santa, and snowy skies sure to delight all those beach babies.
Historic Culver City will once again host its spectacular Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration—this year with 25 tons of fresh sled-ready snow! The Tree Lighting Ceremony will include a 30-minute show of singing, dancing, and music by local kids and a countdown to the the big reveal led by the mayor. The “Sled-tacular Festival” promises to be a Winter Wonderland, with enough snow for lots of slippery sliding and snowball-rolling. Expect snowmen, games, booths, treats, and a special visit from Santa.

Snow is in the forecast at this Simi Valley annual event, which features a whole roster of activities for kids plus live music, food and drinks for all. The event kicks off midday with a bounce house and activities for the kids including visits with both Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Come hungry (and thirsty!), as there will be a beer garden, farmers market and hot foods for sale. The tree lighting will be followed by a performance by oldies cover party band Captain Cardiac and the Coronaries. Make sure to dress warm—the snow will be falling!

9. 100th Annual Christmas Tree Lane Lighting Ceremony in Altadena
After a two-year hiatus due to COVID, the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Winter Festival is back in Altadena, where a stretch of Santa Rosa's iconic deodar cedar trees have been lighting up for the holidays since 1920 (it's reportedly the oldest outdoor Christmas tree display in the world). The kickoff event, the Winter Festival, will take place at the library and will include tasty seasonal treats and drinks, as well a holiday craft market featuring local artisans. From there, head out to the streets and watch with the crowd as the lights go on for the season.
