Take the stress out of the holiday this year at a local restaurant serving the best Thanksgiving dinner in Portland

Thanksgiving. It’s a holiday filled with food, family, drink, and pleasure. With a side of complete kitchen destruction and a sink full of dishes. Don’t get us wrong, that can be a fun piece of the party too. But if this year, all that clean up feels like a little much, don’t fret—these Portland restaurants are making it easy for families (but a few extra tips always help). They’re serving up the best Thanksgiving dinner in Portland so you and the kids can focus on what matters most during this time of year—each other.

These Portland restaurants are open on Thanksgiving (and they’re family-friendly too)

1. Bullard Tavern

Situated in downtown Portland inside the Woodlark Hotel, the Bullard Tavern prides itself on its ability to bring Texas hospitality to Oregon’s wide variety of dining options. Perhaps you’d like to visit the restaurant in person on Thanksgiving this year? It's as easy as making a reservation through Tock, and then sitting down to all your favorite Thanksgiving staples (the restaurant is open from 11 a.m.-9 p.m.) served a la carte. Hint: The Thanksgiving Plate is stacked with traditional faves. Or perhaps you’d like to swing by and grab a meal to-go so you can eat in the comfort of your own home? You can do that at Bullard Tavern too. Be sure to place your order for the family dinner box (serves 3-4) soon and schedule your pick-up for November 23. Our tip? Don't forget to add a dessert to your order when you do.

2. 23Hoyt

Sophisticated and contemporary, you can expect a thoughtfully curated Thanksgiving buffet at this Portland restaurant. While there will definitely be turkey (butter and herb roasted free-range, organic) on the table, families will also find some Spanish-Mediterranean influenced dishes there too. Maple Glazed Garnet Yams and Sautéed French Beans are a sampling of the sides. And mini tarts and yogurt strudel finish up the meal. Make reservations to enjoy this no-work dinner (for you anyway) between 1 and 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

3. Urban Farmer

Urban Farmer is a modern steakhouse located in the heart of downtown Portland. Inside the Nines Hotel, this class A restaurant offers high quality meals made from locally sourced produce and fresh butcher cuts. Did we mention that the restaurant is situated in the 8th floor atrium? But the view is not the only thing you and the kids can enjoy at this restaurant that will be open on Thanksgiving from noon to 9 p.m. Salad and flatbread start things off before the first course. Then choose from salmon, ham, NY strip, or honey and thyme roasted turkey breast for the main course. They have a veg option too. Sides and desserts mirror traditional favorites with a few unexpected twists. You'll need reservations to dine here.

Unlike meal kits, all you need is a microwave, fork, and plate (optional!) to get a satisfying lunch or dinner on the table. With a food philosophy centered on less sugar, less processed and more nutrients, the menu features better-for-you versions of comfort foods with smart ingredient swaps. For example, Chicken Parm is coated in almond flour vs. bread crumbs and topped with marinara sauce sweetened with honey instead of refined sugars; Mac and Cheese is made with brown rice pasta and cheesy sauce blended with a purée of cauliflower and butternut squash; and Turkey Meatballs are packed with mushrooms and served over zoodles for a lower-carb alternative to pasta.

Cost: Customers can order 4 meals ($11.50/each), 6 meals ($8.99/each), 9 meals ($8.99/each) or 12 meals ($7.99/each) weekly.

One Potato

One Potato

When it comes to feeding families, One Potato has got you covered. Co-founder Catherine McCord's best selling Weelicious recipes are the basis of the One Potato meals. There's nothing fussy here—the organic, non-GMO ingredients come pre-chopped, pre-measured and ready to get from box to table in no time. Each recipe will be ready in less than 30 minutes, which makes weeknight meals a cinch.

One Potato understands that not every family has two adults and two kids so they offer plans for two to six servings per meal. By indicating how many children are in your family, you'll receive kid-sized portions (about half of an adult-sized portion) for them. Choose two or three meals to be delivered per week, or skip that week if you'll be out of town.

Each week you have eight meal options to choose from—five rotating Seasonal Favorite and three constant Family Favorites. Vegetarian, nut-free and gluten free meals are available. The included recipe cards are super easy to follow and kids will love getting involved in the cooking process by following along with the photos. Have them brown the ground beef for tacos or prep the par-cooked potatoes for French fries. The recipe cards provide tips for getting the kids involved in cooking.

Cost: Plans vary from $7.32-12.95/serving. The more servings you purchase, the lower your per serving cost will be.

Fan Fave Restaurant Recipes You Can Make At Home

Don’t worry about overcooking your pasta with this delicious Turkey Skillet Casserole by food author Linda Gassenheimer. In this hearty dish, the pasta cooks to perfection right in the sauce. The addition of turkey, mushrooms, and spinach give the meal a healthy, light touch. For one pot fanatics, you can even serve it right from the skillet.

Serves 2

Ingredients:
2 teaspoons canola oil
3/4 pound boneless turkey breast, cut into 1-inch pieces
3/4 cup frozen chopped onion
2 teaspoons minced garlic
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3/4 cup reduced-sodium, no-sugar-added pasta sauce
1/2 cup water
2 cups sliced baby bella mushrooms
3 ounces fresh whole-wheat linguine, broken into 4–5-inch pieces
2 packed cups washed, ready-to-eat spinach
1/2 cup fresh basil, torn into bite-size pieces
1/4 cup shredded reduced-fat sharp cheddar cheese
3 tablespoons reduced-fat sour cream

Helpful Hints:
It’s important to use fresh pasta from the supermarket for this recipe. Fettuccini can be used instead of linguine. Any type of reduced-fat cheese can be used. Minced garlic can be found in the produce section of the market.

Method:
1. Heat oil in a medium-size nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add turkey, onion, and garlic. Sauté 3 minutes, turning turkey pieces to brown all sides. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.

2. Add the pasta sauce, water, mushrooms, and linguine. Stir to mix well. Bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to medium, cover with a lid, and cook 3 minutes. The linguine should be cooked through. Add a little water if sauce is dry before pasta is cooked.

3. Add spinach and basil, stirring until spinach wilts. Remove from the heat and sprinkle the cheese on top. Spoon sour cream over cheese. Serve on 2 dinner plates.

Countdown: Prepare first 8 ingredients. While turkey and pasta cook, prepare remaining ingredients.

Boudin Bakery
While Boudin is not unique to San Diego (you can find the restaurants throughout California), their sandwiches have stood the test of time. The chain was started in San Francisco by the Boudin family in 1849. They are famous for their sourdough bread, which is today made from the sourdough starter recipe that was used more than 150 years ago. The turkey and Havarti sandwich is one of their most popular eats. But we think you’ll really like the grilled cheese offerings. The Great Grilled Cheese includes Havarti and sharp cheddar on a Parmesan-crusted sourdough bread. You can elect to have it with or without bacon. Believe us when we say kids go crazy for it! If you want a spicier version, try the new Jalapeño Grilled Cheese; or go savory with the Grilled Brie with Apples and Fig.
