Finally, a dessert you won’t feel guilty about saying yes to! Yum Actually is a brand new ice cream made with real fruits and vegetables.

Mom of three, Nicole Frankel, struggled to get her kids to eat fruits and vegetables so she decided to add them into a kid-approved favorite: ice cream. She started by adding soft and sweet options, like bananas and sweet potatoes, to homemade ice cream and her kids, who were hesitant at first, gobbled it up declaring, “It’s yum, actually,” and that’s how the company was born.

Yum Actually offers four unique and delicious flavors: Creamy Honey Banana, Caramel Sweet Potato, Yummy Mango, Butternut Squash Butterscotch and there are more coming soon. Unlike other ice creams that contain real fruit, the amount in Yum Actually is much higher, with the fruits and vegetables being the main ingredient in every flavor. They are also 40 percent lower in sugar and more than 65 percent lower in added sugar.

“Kids eat too much sugar these days. It’s a known fact,” Frankel said. “When you look at the labels of other kids’ desserts sold in stores, the added sugar content is alarming. Because we use such flavorful fruits and veggies in our frozen desserts, we don’t need to add a lot.”

Frankel’s hope is that the frozen treats will also encourage kids to try more fruits and vegetables. She says her own daughter, Eleanor acquired a taste for fresh mangoes and sweet potatoes after eating the ice cream.

Yum Actually frozen treats are sold in portable three ounce cups, with four cups in each box. They are currently only available at select retailers in New York, but hopefully it will expand to more cities soon.

French’s Mustard Ice Cream Is the Summer Flavor You Never Knew You Wanted

Here’s the Scoop: NYC’s Best Ice Cream Shops for Kids

The Halo Top Ski Lodge Will Make Your Ice Cream Dreams Come True

You don’t have to wait much longer for the perfect summer treat, Stranger Things 3. The only thing better than beating the summer heat with a Netflix binge session is ice cream and now you can have both thanks to a Stranger Things ice cream pop-up by Baskin Robbins.

As the trailers and pictures have already revealed, the new season of Stranger Things will revolve around the Hawkins residents hanging out at the Starcourt Mall. Steve and a few new recruits to the gang will be scooping up ice cream cones for their summer jobs at Scoops Ahoy, which is the inspiration behind this new Baskin Robbins pop-up.

A Burbank, California Baskin Robbins will be getting a temporary makeover to look like the Scoops Ahoy ice cream shop in the Starcourt Mall, complete with 80’s nautical decor and uniforms. The shop, which will be open Jul. 2 to Jul. 14 will be serving up scoops of Baskin Robbins Stranger Things-inspired flavors, like USS Butterscotch. A Scoops Ahoy ice cream truck will also be bringing the flavors of Hawkins summer to select locations around the city the first week of July.

If you can’t make it to Los Angeles, don’t worry! You can still get a taste of Baskin Robbins Stranger Things flavors and dishes, like Upside Down Pralines and Demogorgon Sundaes, at locations across the country. You can also score Stranger Things merchandise, like a Scoops Ahoy t-shirt and themed ice cream quarts to go.

Uninterrupted conversation? Who knew that existed? Family time is swell, but sometimes it’s nice to line up a sitter to spend time in a kid-free zone. Whether you swap stories over a meal or bond while touring some of the city’s most architecturally significant buildings, we’ve rounded up low-key, sitter-worthy ideas for adult fun. Enjoy the sound of silence!

Dine with a view at River Roast

There's so much to love about River Roast . . . where to start? The concept, if you can't guess by the name, is roasts. Not the type smothered in gravy . . . not that we'd turn our shoulder to that. Think more like a roasted chicken. There are six different meat, fish and veggie roasts that live on the menu everyday and one rotating roast a month. For the month of October, that's a Pork Shoulder served with sauerkraut and root veggies. The coolest part? They carve your dinner right at the table.

Some non-roast notables on the menu: Fried Olives stuffed with chorizo (sounds weird, but trust us on this one), charred Curried Cauliflower and the Golden Gobbets, which are seasoned fried chicken strips served with an adorable Smurf-sized jar of honey that would make Pooh weep tears of joy. The incredibly friendly staff managed by Jay Schuster, brunches on Saturday and Sunday with a live jazz backdrop and the sweet view with outdoor seating overlooking the hustle and bustle of the Chicago River round out the reasons why we heart River Roast.

Side notes: For brunch, go with Chilaquiles. But, bring a bus load of people with you as they are uber generous with their portions on this one. And, River Roast just sweetened the deal by adding a S'mores Ice Cream Sandwich that tastes just like the bonfire classic and an Adult Sundae Fundae with Guinness ice cream, whisky cherries, rum pineapple, bourbon butterscotch and potato chips.

Have we convinced you to go yet?

The food scene in Los Angeles right now is so good it’s scary. So there’s no shortage of places to get your grub on Halloween style this year, and it’s not all sweets. Take your ghouls and ghosts out for vegan hot dogs from Frankenstand and top it off with candy corn flavored ice cream at Salt and Straw. No matter what your frightfully picky family is craving, there’s something for everyone. Trick and treats guaranteed.

Spooktacular Ice Cream

Salt and Straw's spooktacular ice cream series will send a chill down your spine and give your taste buds a treat. Our picks are Essence of Ghost (smoky and delicious for grown ups) and the Great Candycopia (every Halloween favorite candy, but house made and in a butterscotch base, guaranteed to drive kids wild). Your little goblins will also love the Candy Corn flavor which is indeed like candy corn, but better. But beware, only the truly adventurous will try a scoop of Creepy Crawly Critters, which features real bugs (ants and crickets) encased in amber colored sugar surrounded by bright green sherbet. Save this one for the adults, it's made with a bit of tequila. You'll just get major parental props for eating it without flinching.

If this is your first time hearing about the “Puffle” craze, you are in for a treat! Instagram streams from across the globe recently filled with this eye-catching sweet, and the moment we realized the shop is a short drive from LA, we had to try it out.  Is it as magically delicious as it looks?  See, and hear, for yourself…then hop in your car (or on your broom) and cool down with made to order ice creams and Puffle cones at Santa Ana’s Cauldron Ice Cream.

The Hype, The Craze, The Close, The Re-Open
With all the enticing pictures popping up just as temps were peaking, we had to try it out ASAP, and were greeted with a waiting crowd of hundreds of people and a nearly two-hour wait for an ice cream cone. Fortunately for everyone else, Cauldron took this pure insanity as a sign that they needed to overhaul their system in order to meet the raging demand and reduce wait times. The ice cream shop was closed to customers for one week and celebrated its grand re-opening on August 31, so now you won’t need to grumble about how long it takes to get your Puffle.  So rejoice and get in a nice short line to enjoy this made-fresh treat.

Think Of It As Edible Bubble Wrap
“What they heck is a Puffle,” you ask? Based on a popular Hong Kong treat, it is an egg waffle that resembles large format bubble wrap, almost the reverse of a typical waffle. It looks like something out of a children’s storybook, or perhaps Willy Wonka’s factory, and it wraps beautifully around a couple of scoops of ice cream, essentially creating a two-in-one dessert. The cones are made to order and served warm (melting alert!), so be sure to grab plenty of napkins.

The ice cream is also following the latest ice cream trend (see local shops Creamology, Creamistry, Ice Cream Lab, etc.) of making and freezing your order before your eyes, using a creamy base, fresh add-ins and a blast of liquid nitrogen.  Freezer burn, farewell.  Plus, the smoke effect coming off the machines is super cool.

To Puffle Or Not To Puffle?
Next question: “Soooo…is it worth the hype?” (And the drive…) The answer on the part of your kids will likely be an unqualified and resounding “YES!” After all, there’s something irresistible about desserts that are nearly as big as your face and look like something you’d only find at a state fair. Grown-ups, on the other hand, may find the combination of a thick Belgian waffle wrapped around a couple of scoops of intensely rich ice cream to be a little, um, much. Unless you are some kind of a waffle fiend, big people are better off ordering the ice cream on its own.

Don’t Worry: There’s Stuff For Grown-Ups Too
The liquid nitrogen process produces ice cream that is exceptionally dense, smooth and rich in flavor, so it makes for quite the indulgence even without the waffle-cone-on-steroids that is responsible for the shop’s sudden success.

And, in keeping with modern gourmet ice cream trends, some of the flavors (which rotate monthly) have definitely been developed with discerning palates in mind, including Earl Gray Lavender, Sea Salt Caramel (above) and Vietnamese Coffee. At the other end of the spectrum are kid-pleasing options like Rainbow Road (made with Fruity Pebbles) and Cirque de la Crème (made with Circus Animal Cookies, below). Whether you go full Puffle or not, your sweet tooth is sure to be satisfied.

Harry Potter Fans, Wave Your Wands
FOr young witches and wizards waiting with baited breath for Harry Potter World to open in 2016 at Universal Studios (if only there was a spell to make time fly!), consider passing on the Puffle and getting this magical sipper. The Wizard’s Brew Float is butterscotch soda with fresh vanilla ice cream, and if it puts you in mind of Butterbeer from Hogsmeade, well, we won’t tell the kids this concoction isn’t exactly what Harry and friends drink.
