Disneyland’s Main Street Electrical Parade is headed back to the park to delight young fans and give older ones a big dose of nostalgia. The iconic parade is back for a limited time only, so you’ll want to book your next Disney vacation soon.

The Main Street Electrical Parade was an instant classic from its debut at Disneyland in 1972. The floats covered in thousands of glittering lights and its signature sounds dazzled audiences for decades until it was retired in 1996.

The parade has been modernized and revived several times with the last version parading through the park in 2017. Now Disney Parks is bringing back the fan favorite one more time.

The classic parade with its “electro-syntho-magnetic musical sounds” will be winding its way across Disneyland one more time this summer, nightly from Aug. 2 to Sep. 30.

The dinosaurs are roaring back to life at Universal Studios as Jurassic World The Ride is set to reopen this summer. While we don’t know a ton about the revamped attraction, Universal Studios just released a teaser trailer and it looks like the stuff dinosaur nightmares are made of!

According to a press release from Universal Studios, the new Jurassic World The Ride will feature newly-themed environments and add some new dinosaurs featured in the Jurassic World films. It will also be themed around a new storyline that draws from the way the park is designed in both Jurassic World films and will take place on the day the Indominus rex escapes. You can sneak the preview below.

Everything from the rafts to the iconic gateway that visitors enter through—and of course the dinosaurs—has been reimagined by a dream team of park designers and Academy Award-winning special-effects visionaries at Industrial Light & Magic. The ride queue will also feature new videos that feature facts and information about the dinosaurs within the ride.

Near the end of the trailer, we also see that the aquatic Mosasaurus makes an appearance in her natural habitat––a three million gallon glass encased Aquarium Observatory tank. Hold on to your butts!

The ride isn’t the only thing getting a makeover. The kids’ Dino Play area where young fans to little to ride will inevitably be spending their time, adding more hand-on activities, like excavations and investigating giant dinosaur fossils. You’ll also be able to enjoy The Raptor Encounter area will be adding velociraptor Blue along with other raptors for photo opps.

There is no official date yet, but Jurassic World The Ride will reopen summer 2019.

Young Pokémon fans are excited to see Pikachu electrify the big screen in this summer’s upcoming new feature film. But if the new Detective Pikachu trailer is any indication, parents might be left wondering if this Pokémon movie is really made for kids.

Warner Bros. Pictures just dropped the latest trailer for Pokémon Detective Pikachu starring Ryan Reynolds, giving fans a big glimpse of what to expect from the new movie. While the film is not yet rated, the Pokémon universe clearly has legions of young fans that will be hoping to watch. As the trailer indicates, however, there will be some violence, adult language and rude humor. Take a look for yourself:

It will be awhile before the MPAA releases its rating on the film, but based on what’s been revealed so far Common Sense Media warns that it will “likely be edgier than its source material and earlier animated Pokémon movies and series, so it could be too intense for younger kids.”

If nautical nonsense be something you wish, then turn your attention to Nickelodeon, where a new SpongeBob spinoff series promises more undersea adventures for fans.

With more young viewers turning their sights on streaming platforms like Netflix and the highly anticipated Disney+, Nickelodeon’s new president Brian Robbins understands that cable networks have to step up their game to entice young audiences. That’s why he just green-lit a new spinoff series based on one of Nickelodeon’s most popular series, Spongebob Squarepants.

Robbins recently revealed his plans to attract viewers to the network saying, “I think today we need to make a volume of quality franchises, but not necessarily feed a million episodes of those shows. We need to keep a constant number of new shows coming, and not necessarily make one show with 80 episodes.”

Sadly the series creator, Stephen Hillenburg, will not be involved in creating the Spongebob spinoff as he passed away last year after battling ALS. There is no word yet on which Bikini Bottom characters will star in the show or when it will air, but it sounds like there will be lots of new fun in the pipeline at Nickelodeon for young fans.

While you wait, you can catch up on all your favorite episodes starring the lovable yellow sponge on the the brand-new Nickelodeon Spongebob channel on YouTube.

If you’re old enough to remember what a floppy disk is, then chances are you know all the words to “Where In the World Is Carmen Sandiego?” That catchy tune and the incredible show it introduced left a lasting impression on a generation of young fans that can only be described as the “Carmen Effect.” What is the “Carmen Effect,” you might ask? A new generation of kids is about to find out.

Netflix reboots the Carmen Sandiego of our childhoods with a brand new series on Jan. 18. In preparation for the premiere, Netflix did some research and found that, besides her iconic red hat and trench coat, Carmen Sandiego left a deep impact on Millennials who grew up discovering new countries and cultures while they travelled the globe alongside the elusive thief. And now these Millennials have kids of their own.

Looking at five years worth of Twitter mentions of Carmen Sandiego, Netflix compiled data into four distinct categories that have impacted fans in what they are calling the “Carmen Effect.” Of the 300,000 plus tweets analyzed, the majority reflected Carmen’s Signature Style (60 percent of tweets), which has inspired everything from high-fashion runways to Halloween costumes. Passport Goals (20 percent) represented another big chunk of Carmen related tweets, with many fans attributing their love of travel to their early days jetting off with Carmen on television.

You can also thank Carmen for those random Trivial Pursuit-style grains of knowledge you have stored in your brain. As a childhood icon, she not only taught kids her Sandiego Smarts (16 percent), she was also a Trailblazer (7 percent) and a role model.

Now a whole new generation will get a chance to be introduced to the Carmen Effect as they join along in new international adventures that are sure to leave them with a little wanderlust and a stylish fashion sense of their own.

“I think parents are going to want their kids to watch the new Carmen Sandiego because it’s not only educational with the geography facts and other cultures, but it also portrays a strong, independent, loving educated woman,” said Gina Rodriguez, voice of Carmen Sandiego. “She’s a multi-dimensional character. She feels and loves just as much as she is strong and rebellious. To me, she’s a beautiful character to portray to our youth today.”

Just in time to encourage your kids to make healthy decisions in the New Year comes a new American Girl doll! Meet Blaire Wilson, the American Girl of the Year 2019—and she’s all about promoting mealtime togetherness.

Food is something that we all enjoy in one form or another—and it can also be an integral part of what binds loved ones together. Family discussions over the dinner table can help strengthen connections, but in today’s fast-paced times of digital immediacy, those important conversations can get pushed aside for screen time. Blaire wants to change that by helping families reconnect over mealtime.

“We’re proud to introduce fans to our 2019 Girl of the Year, Blaire Wilson—an everyday girl who thrives on using her many talents to make meaningful connections with others,” Julia Prohaska, Vice President of Marketing for American Girl, said in a press release.

Blaire is a young chef-in-training who loves cooking and concocting recipes at her family’s sustainable farm and bed-and-breakfast in upstate New York. Faced with the challenges of a newly diagnosed food sensitivity, and being self-conscious among other things, Blaire often finds herself staring at a device instead of engaging with others.

She soon learns to find a healthy balance between exploring the real world and the digital one, however, and the hope is that her young fans will do the same.

Featuring green eyes and red curly hair, the latest American Girl doll has a plethora of clothing and accessories to help kids bring her story to life at home. The Blaire collection, which includes items from Pleasant View Farm and Blaire’s Family Farm Restaurant, is available online and in stores now.

Her collection also includes two new books: Blaire and Blaire Cooks Up a Plan. Each book retails for $7.99 and is available in both paperback and Kindle editions.

Prohaska continued, “Building and maintaining supportive relationships with family and friends is central to Blaire’s story—a message we think is important to champion among girls today. In an age where families are often striving for quality time together, we hope Blaire inspires everyone to make a New Year’s resolution to connect more regularly with the important people in their lives and make their time together this year really count.”

Now that is a resolution we can definitely get behind!

Since its debut in 2012, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood has been providing a new generation of kids with the same messages and themes as the show it was based on, Mister Rogers Neighborhood. Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood season 4 has just premiered with more inspiring topics, but there are some big changes coming to the Tiger household.

Series creator Angela Santomero recently sat down with The Atlantic to discuss the hit show and why it’s so popular among young fans and their parents. While borrowing many elements from Mister Rogers, the new show also draws on modern themes and real-life challenges that its preschool audience experiences at home.

Santomero explained that many episode ideas have even drawn on audience feedback that the creators have received on social media channels like Facebook. “Now because Daniel has been out on air, we can even ask on Facebook. Our fans are like, This is what I want, I want this episode! Then the team will talk about the ‘Fred-ish’ way to do them,” Santomero explained. Topics, such as using the potty or going to the doctor, have been suggested by parents and given an approachable Mr. Rogers-esque treatment.

For season 4, the show will explore a topic that many families face in their own lives: Mom Tiger will be heading back to work. She’ll be trading in her tunic (yes, Santomero confirmed that’s that Mom Tiger is wearing a tunic and not scrubs) for work clothes and going back to the job.

And what is Mom Tiger’s job exactly? “She’s a builder,” says Santomero. “She builds things, and she helps fix things all around the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, so we can visually see what she does. As a preschooler, it’s so cool to see Mom fix something, or build something, and you can see it before and after. She has overalls, with tools and a tool belt, things like that. It’s very cute.”

Imagine getting paid to engage and entertain kids through music and dance. Sound too good to be true? Nope — so is the life (errr…shall we say enviable life) of Andy Zamenes, a children’s performer and singer-songwriter whose original songs, albums and videos will get even the most ornery kid up and dancing. Andy’s performances incorporate character voices and puppets, as well as genres that include folk, jazz, hip hop and blues.

Andy recently sat down with us to talk about his love of music, summer plans, and favorite neighborhood haunts.

What are the last five songs/albums you downloaded on your iPod/MP3 player?
1. The Beatles- Revolver (don’t know how I never got this album before. I’m a Beatles nut!)

2. John Lithgow- Singin’ In The Bathtub
It’s his kids’ music album and a masterfully done one at that. I featured his song “Big Kids” on my guest DJ set for the Internet Radio Show “Spare The Rock, Spoil The Child”, and wanted to have a good sounding version of the song and the whole album, so I got it.

3. Danny Kaye- Danny Kaye Sings “Hans Christian Andersen” and Other Favourites. I featured the song “Tongue Twisters” on the same show, and again decided to download the whole album.
I am a HUGE Danny Kaye fan in general, but I’ve been particularly influenced and inspired by his masterful use of rhyming and word play.

4. The Killers- Hot Fuss
One of my favorite new(er) bands. Waited until the songs got somewhat out of rotation to buy this one, and put my gift card to good use!

5. The Police- Ghost In The Machine
Another classic album that I somehow never bought. Gift card to the rescue again!

Describe a perfect Sunday with your family.
It’s all about getting outside ideally- maybe hitting our favorite farmer’s market, and a garage sale that catches our eye(s). Then hitting the coast, maybe staying there until sundown, eating dinner and heading back.

What are you most looking forward to this summer?
Playing for more families at repeat and brand new venues (I LOVE my job!), playing some tunes on the new Halloween album, going to Lake Tahoe, and maybe Virginia City, NV while we’re out that way (our sentimental favorite destination). Not too much vacation time nowadays as I’m booked just about every weekend (no complaints!), but we’ll get out when we can! Monterey, Carmel and Capitola are favorite “Indian” summer destinations as well.

What is the last big risk that you’ve taken and how did it turn out?
Taking out a big loan to fund my 5th album. It’s the first one however for older kids (8 to 12) although it will still be accessible to my young fans. This is new territory for me in the realm of kids music, so that’s a risk in itself. But I just work with what the muse brings to me. Also, I’m fortunate enough to be working with Grammy-moninated producer Tor Hyams, and national family music publicist Elizabeth Waldman Frazier this time around. When they agreed to take on this project with me, I HAD to take the risk! I’ll let you know how it turns out. I have a feeling it’s going to be REALLY good!

Tell us about your favorite date night spot.
When we do get a chance to get out, we like to go to the Symphony at Davies Hall in San Francisco. That’s quite a date night, and it doesn’t happen very often, but it feeds the soul for sure. Speaking of feed, we like to go to our favorite Greek Restaurant Kokkari when we’re in SF on a date night. It’s the ambience as much as it is the food.

Tell us about a hidden gem in your neighborhood — a place that the locals love.
Well it’s not such a “hidden” gem per say, but it might be for those outside of Redwood City and the mid-peninsula. We love “Courthouse Square” in front of the old County Courthouse, which is now the San Mateo County History Museum- not only because it’s pretty (which it is) but because there is a different event going on there more often than not. Whether it’s a concert, outdoor salsa dance-off and presentation, a family movie on the square (summer nights, kinda like a drive-in movie without the cars), or ice skating (the city puts up an ice skating rink in the square) there is much more to do downtown than when I was a kid. The hometown I’ve found myself living in again has come a LONG way!

Thanks, Andy for speaking to Red Tricycle! We can’t wait to catch your next show.
