The Keeper

Some people call it "collecting"; others, "preserving", still more — "hoarding." The New Museum considers the amassing of similar items, be they art, objects or images, from all angles in its new exhibit, The Keepers. On display are groups from the mundane to the massive, such a string figures, rare stones, scrapbooks and more, highlighting the highly subjective nature of what is valuable and worth preserving. While the exhibit is spread over four floors, the anchor of the show is Partners (The Teddy Bear Project) (2002), a mind-bogglingly large display conceived by Ydessa Hendeles that includes 3,000 family album photos of people posing with teddy bears, as well as multiple antique teddy bears.
