The “Corpse Flower” in Bloom

So, yes, some of the happenings noted here will stick around into the fall, so those people not currently in the city may be able to check them out. However. This one's an almost literally "one-night only" engagement, and will probably be gone by week's end. The mighty Amorphophallus titanum, or "Corpse Flower", is set to bloom any minute now — a brief and rare occurrence — at the New York Botanical Garden. It's ready to meet its adoring public, on display for the first time since 1939! Measuring about eight feet-tall, this imposing plant derives its name from the, uh, distinct odor it emits when in bloom. What's more entertaining than hearing a child say, "Eeewwwwwwwwww!"? (Buy, you know, also: science.) Stay on top of the stinky situation by tuning in to the Corpse Flower cam.
