The Sycamore Kitchen: A New Eatery for a Hip Play Date

Have you blacklisted fancy French restaurants for the next 10 years until the kids perfect their table manners and to avoid those glares from neighboring diners?  Relax and let your little ones and your taste buds run loose at this new French café created by the husband and wife owners of Hatfield’s on Melrose, a well-known institution in the French dining scene.  Your kiddos will love the endless selection of freshly baked pastries, and you will satisfy that inner foodie while you take refuge in this industrial yet cozy and comfortable culinary sanctuary.

The Sycamore Kitchen is the latest creation that has single-handedly put Seinfeld’s babka back on the map.  The colorfully, fenced entrance greets you with an open outdoor eating area equipped with plenty of umbrellas to keep you and your little ones under the shade while you enjoy the food and the ambiance.   Situated in the middle of the design and art community off La Brea, spacious and unpretentious, this new gem (it opened just this past summer) is an ideal place to have a hip play date while the mommies dish over some espressos and the kids snack on a blueberry financier muffin, apple galette, chocolate chip rye cookie or their famous salted caramel pecan bobka roll.  If you and your little ones are craving more fall-like flavors, try the savory pumpkin-walnut galette, coconut carrot parsnip bread, or the dark ale spice gingerbread; all are moist with the right balance of sweet and savory to satisfy any craving.

The best news is, breakfast is served Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 11:30 am and Saturday to Sunday from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm, so bring your little early birds in to sample their cinnamon brioche French toast or the croque madame.  For lunch, served daily from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, try ordering the kiddos the albacore tuna salad or the turkey chili that is packed with the super-food kale and the kids won’t even know it! After your meal, don’t forget to check out the latest LACMA exhibits for your kiddos.
