2022 Guide to San Diego’s 4th of July Fireworks & Festivities

The skies are lighting up this Fourth of July and San Diego is celebrating in its finest red, white and blue. We’ve got all the details on where you and your little firecrackers can watch the best shows in town. From a family-fun weekend on Coronado Island to watching the Big Bay Boom with friends, here are all the places to celebrate July 4th in San Diego with kids.

Coastal San Diego

The Big Bay Boom July 4th Fireworks Show 
The Big Bay Boom bash is back with amazing fireworks over the San Diego Bay. What’s unique about this extravaganza is the fireworks are lit from several coastal locations, including Shelter Island, Harbor Island, Embarcadero North and Coronado Ferry Landing. The show is always popular, so consider carpooling or take the San Diego Trolley. Event Details. 

Coronado
Bring the kids and enjoy an entire weekend of patriotic activities on Coronado Island. The Annual Independence Day Parade in Coronado takes place on July 4th at 10:00 down Orange Ave. Watch the Legends in the Sky above Coronado on July 4th at 2 p.m. The United States Navy Parachute Team “The Leap Frogs” is the official parachute demonstration team of the United States Navy. Enjoy a Public Kids Concert from 4 pm - 5 pm and then end the evening with a fireworks display over Glorietta Bay. Local tip: watch Coronado’s fireworks from the golf course or Stingray Point, and don’t drive — walk or bike instead. Event Details.

East County

Julian 
While it’s true Julian is known for apples and mining, the town also has an old-fashioned 4th of July day planned. Camp out on Main Street for a day of family fun at “the best little town parade in America.” This year’s theme is ”Historic Julian Celebrates the 4th." This year you’ll see marching bands and bands including the Emerald Society Bag Pipe Band, Gold Drum and Bugle Corps and Mariachi Continental de San Diego. Antique cars, vintage tractors, belly dancers, World War 2 Submariners, and several comedy entries will appear to complete a fun well-rounded hometown parade. Note: Julian does not have a fireworks display. Event Details. 

El Cajon 
The City of El Cajon will host fireworks on Sat., July 4th at 9:00 pm at Kennedy Park. Event Details. 

Santee Salutes
Santee Salutes Fourth of July ceremony is back, with a full fireworks show launched from Town Center Community Park and West Hills Park. Advanced parking purchase is required and can be purchased here. The Schedule of events includes food vendors and 80z All Stars Concert. Event Details. 

North County Inland

City of Poway

Poway - Old Fashioned Celebration
Bring your family and friends to Old Poway Park and celebrate our country's independence "turn-of-the-20th-century-style". This event will feature patriotic entertainment, western re-enactors, model train displays, free crafts, and old-fashioned games. Tasty treats and train rides will be available for a nominal fee. Event Details. 

Poway Fireworks Show
The City of Poway will host two spectacular firework shows to light up the night sky over Poway High School (15500 Espola Road) and Poway Sportsplex (12349 McIvers Court). Gates at Poway High School open at 6 p.m. for a special viewing party, with games, activities, and a DJ spinning the tunes. $5 per person, children 11 and under are free. Fireworks begin at 9 p.m. Arrive early to allow time for parking. Event Details. 

San Marcos 
San Marcos hosts one of the most spirited 4th of July Celebrations in North County at Bradley Park. This year's festivities will include carnival games, jumpers and food sales on-site. Guests should plan to bring beach chairs or blankets for lawn seating. Event Details.

Vista
Celebrate Independence Day at Brengle Terrace Park and enjoy a fun-filled Fourth of July BBQ dinner. The DecaDames perform at 7:35 p.m. and the firework display kicks off at 9 p.m. Park admission is $15 per vehicle ($30 for RVs). The Fun-Filled Fourth BBQ Dinner is $65 per person. Entry into the Moonlight Amphitheatre is $5 per person. No walk-in pedestrian traffic is permitted in the park. Event Details. 

North County Inland

Carlsbad: LEGOLAND
The summer heats up at LEGOLAND® California Resort with a star-spangled Fourth of July celebration: Red, White and Boom! Throughout the day, kids of all ages can participate in all-American family picnic games and building activities. The evening fireworks show combines patriotic music with dazzling pyrotechnics. Red White and Boom!
is included in the cost of regular Park admission. Event Details. 

Del Mar
The San Diego Fair is putting on a specially-designed show for their audience. Celebrate by wearing stars and stripes, eating apple funnel cake and cheering on the fireworks finale. Best viewing will be in the West Avenue and West Gate area. Event Details. 

Oceanside
The annual celebration in honor of Oceanside’s July 3rd birthday and Independence Day will take place this year. Fireworks will begin at 9:00 p.m. on July 3 at El Corazon. Residents are encouraged to enjoy the show from home, but limited capacity viewing areas will be available near El Corazon to spread out. Rancho Del Oro will be closed from Oceanside Boulevard to Mesa, and Ocean Ranch will be closed from Corporate Center to Rancho Del Oro beginning at 5:00 p.m. that evening.  Event Details.

4th of July Picnic Dinner at Maritime Museum 
The observation deck of the Museum’s historic 1898 steam ferryboat Berkeley offers guests a spectacular view of the fireworks over San Diego Bay. The holiday dinner will be provided on the upper deck interior of the 1898 Victorian-era steam ferryboat Berkeley, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Guests may check-in for dinner anytime between 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Event Details.

Independence Day at Universal Studios Hollywood: The park will be celebrating the 4 of July by extending its Independence Day festivities throughout the weekend from Sat., July 2 – Mon., July 4, inclusive of dazzling nightly fireworks displays, live music performances, specially themed décor and more, all included in the price of admission to the theme park. From the moment guests walk along the iconic red carpet and enter the theme park, they will be immersed in July 4 festivities from themed décor to the sounds of a fife and drum band. Then, beginning nightly at 9:00 p.m., an elaborate fireworks display will splash across the sky, synchronized to a score of Universal-themed music and patriotic favorites from two locations inside of the theme park. Pacific Palisades

Pacific Palisades Parade & Fireworks: Los Angeles may be a big city, but this 4th of July parade has a small-town feel with marching bands, equestrian groups, drill teams and more. Post-parade, head to Palisades Charter High’s Stadium by the Sea for family-friendly live music, kids activities and food trucks, followed by—you guessed it—fireworks. You can also participate in the Patriotic Home Decorating, Patriotic Pups, and Kids on Bikes Contests. Event details.

DTLA

Grand Park 4th of July Block Party: Grand Park & The Music Center’s Fourth of July Block Party returns in-person with a spectacular celebration packed with fun for the whole family. This year’s party will feature a series of interactive multi-media art works in tribute to those who have contributed to the spirit of the Grand Park experience as the Park for Everyone, and will showcase a dynamic respective of the last 10 years. Join us for a night that will include food, music, the return of two stages featuring DJs as well as musical performances, dancing, as well as other surprises and dazzling fireworks over The Music Center Plaza. Marina del Rey

Marina del Rey Fireworks: One of the best places to see July 4th fireworks is none other than in Marina del Rey. Enjoy dinner at waterfront restaurants in Marina del Rey with the best firework views or charter a yacht for the ultimate close-up! Or head to Burton Chace Park or Fisherman’s Village for a family-friendly party atmosphere including synchronized music played over loudspeakers. The fireworks start at 9 p.m. and last 20 minutes. This is a popular event, with visitors traveling to the area from throughout the Southland. Plan to arrive as early as 1 p.m. and stay in the Marina until the evening's festivities. Event details.

Huntington Beach

Annual 4th of July Fireworks Over The Ocean: Launched in 1904, the first Huntington Beach 4th of July celebration commemorated the arrival of the first electric passenger train linking the area with Long Beach and Los Angeles, attracting 50,000 people to the celebration. 118 years later, the annual tradition annually attracts more than 500,000 attendees over 4 days of programming and is the largest 4th of July celebration west of the Mississippi. Join us from Jun. 30-July 4, 2022 as we celebrate our Huntington Beach Hometown Tradition! The celebration culminates with the annual 4th of July Fireworks Over The Ocean, presented by Mr. Robert Mayer and family. Event details.

 

Woodland Hills

Councilman Bob Blumenfield’s July 4th Extravaganza: With one of the most spectacular fireworks displays in Southern California, the July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza delights over 60,000 people with a free concert and 15-minute spectacular fireworks display. There are over 15 local restaurants on hand along with arts and crafts vendors and local businesses promoting and selling their goods. The event takes place on July 4th of each year from 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Come early! Parking fees are a donation to Valley Cultural Foundation and allow us to continue our longstanding tradition of bringing music and the arts to our West Valley. Event details.

Redondo Beach

Redondo Beach 4th of July Festival: A family friendly 4th of July Festival and Fireworks Show in Redondo Beach. Enjoy live music, food, drinks, and a state-of-the-art firework show. Event details.

 

Pasadena

The 96th Annual Americafest: The Rose Bowl Stadium, recognized as home to one of the nation’s largest and longest running shows to celebrate America’s birthday, will host its 96th Annual AmericaFest Celebration on Mon., July 4th. It is a great privilege to provide an event that will bring family and friends alike to celebrate in-person and enjoy in the patriotic festivities of the day in the Arroyo. Event details.

Hollywood

Hollywood Bowl

Calabasas Splash Party & Fireworks Spectacular: The City will once again host its popular Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular at Calabasas High School. Tickets for this exciting event are limited and are likely to sell out quickly. They must be purchased in advance of July 4 and there is free parking on-site. The gates open to public at 4 p.m. and the musically choreographed fireworks spectacular starts at 9 p.m with fun, family-friendly events taking place in-between. Event details.

2022 Guide to the DMV’s 4th of July Fireworks & Festivities

The fireworks on the National Mall are one of the most spectacular shows in town. Set against the Washington Monument, there are a couple key vantage points for optimal viewing (check out our insider tips below), but a number of other area fireworks are also stunning (and many promise lesser crowds). Whether you want to celebrate America’s birthday in our nation’s capitol or you’re looking to venture further out of the city, we’ve found the best places to catch a dazzling display of fireworks in Washington, DC and beyond.

In the City

National Mall Fireworks 
The National Mall becomes the ultimate amphitheater every July 4th.  Grab your picnic blanket and park your family on any patch of grass  on the National Mall and you’ll have a front row seat to the show. This is the most crowded place to watch the celebration, so pack some snacks to help distract overtired kids (it can take up to an hour to leave the area). If you’re looking for something more low-key, you can still catch this awe-inspiring show beyond the Mall.

For a quiet, sensory-friendly evening: head to the National Cathedral. Boasting the highest point in the city, you can take the DC fireworks without all the noise. Another high vantage point can be found at Cardozo High School near U St. This is a hot spot with locals that guarantees a low-key vibe.

For an active evening: spend the night at The Wharf where you can have dinner, grab a s’mores kit  for dessert and gather around the fire, watch fireworks.

For a unique experience: For a dazzling view, watch the fireworks on the Potomac. You don’t need to be on a boat for this view. The 14th Street Bridge, the Francis Scott Key Bridge and the Arlington Memorial Bridge all are great spots to take in the July 4th celebrations. There are also a number of Firework Cruise options including the Signature Dinner Cruise by CityExperiences and the Alexandria City Water Taxi and for those wanting an intimate evening with just the fam, private charters, like this tour by sailboat from Reflections DC.

MARYLAND

Baltimore’s Inner Harbor Spectacular 
Immerse yourself in Revolutionary Americana in the city of Baltimore. Spend some time at Fort McHenry where the bombardment by the British inspired Francis Scott Key to pen “The Defense of Fort M’Henry” better known today as the “Star Spangled Banner.” You can also visit the home of the seamstress who made the garrison flag made famous by Key’s song.  More ways celebrate Independence Day include live music in the Inner Harbor amphitheater starting at 4 p.m , a live spoken word performance of Frederick Douglass’ “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?” at Rash Field Park at 7:39 p.m and  the main event—fireworks—over the Inner Harbor at 9:30 p.m. Event details.

Annapolis’s July 4th Celebration
Kick start America’s birthday with a parade down Main Street at 6:30 p.m. Any spot along the route is a good spot to take in this small town parade. There will be antique cars, firetrucks, marching bands and more. Fireworks light up the sky starting at 8 p.m The best places to take in Annapolis’s display is on the City Dock or standing on Naval Academy Bridge. Event details.

An All-Day Celebration in Frederick 
It’s an all day celebration in Frederick where festivities start at noon. Baker Park is the backdrop for this city’s 4th of July party that features entertainment on two stages, kids rides and games, a dunk tank (because, let’s face it, it’s hot!) and local food vendors. The fireworks show starts at dusk and while you can see the fireworks from most areas in the park, some parts may be obstructed. For optimal viewing, head towards the Fleming Ave. Swimming Pool, the Frederick High School lawn or the Carillon Area of Baker Park. Event details.

Fireworks. And More Fireworks in Columbia
If there is no such thing as too many fireworks for you and your crew, Howard County might be the 4th of July roadtrip you need this year. Boasting the largest display in the area, this fireworks show goes on for a solid 20 minutes (longer than the National Mall!). Live music starts at 6 p.m. and the grand finale in the sky starts at 9:20 p.m. Event details. 

VIRGINIA

Vienna’s Independence Day Celebration & Fireworks
This NOVA suburb is Virginia’s answer to the Howard County Display. For over twenty minutes, the sky over Vienna is illuminated with one of the area’s most epic firework shows. The evening starts with a performance by the United States Navy Concert Band at 8 p.m. followed by fireworks (estimated to be 9:30 p.m.). Event details.

Celebrate America in Manassas
Come celebrate with one of the largest displays of fireworks in Northern Virginia. This event has small town feels with face painting, eating contests and a bike decorating competition.  Families can park themselves (and their snacks) on the Manassas Museum lawn to watch the fireworks show. St. Paul Rodeo is one of the most popular rodeo events in Oregon taking place annually during the 4th of July weekend in St. Paul. "The Nation’s Greatest Fourth of July Rodeo” will return for the 84th year with the promise of top rodeo action, family fun and patriotism.  Six rodeo performances, sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, will feature the top rodeo cowboys and livestock in the World. Also featuring a Wild West Art Show, Tack Room Saloon, a carnival, food, shopping, live music, Jaycees Beer Garden, Fourth of July parade, and barbecue and much more.  The kids will love the barrel racing, classic saddle bronco riding, team roping, bareback riding, steer wrestling, bull riding, tie-down roping, and so much more.

City of Portland Fireworks

The city of Portland will offer a fireworks display at 9:15 p.m. off the Eastern Promenade. Many local parks host Fourth of July celebrations and fireworks after dark, including Mt. Tabor, the International Rose Test Garden, Sellwood Park, and Oaks Amusement Park. The Oaks Amusement Park offers a picnic area, roller-skating, and its own fireworks show.

Champoeg Independence Day Race

Grab your running shoes and head to this historic Park. Your family will enjoy an amazing day at Champoeg State Park running, eating and listening to music! This event includes an out and back Run (or walk), plenty of good food, amazing beer, and listen to some great music all inside of Historic Champoeg State Park.

Waterfront Blues Festival 

Music lovers and fans will come together again July 1-4, for the Waterfront Blues Festival “Upriver!” This annual Fourth of July festival is returning with an unforgettable event that will be a Waterfront Blues Fest like no other. Held in Tom McCall Waterfront Park, with unparalleled views of Portland’s famous bridges and riverfront, the festival is the perfect way to celebrate the Fourth of July Weekend. With family-friendly activities, sunny skies, the world-famous Zydeco dance floor and of course fireworks over the Willamette River, The Waterfront Blues Festival is not to be missed. Cost: varies by event

Estacada Parade

Portland families have the opportunity to attend this annual Independence Day parade. It will begin at Estacada High School. It will go south on Main Street to downtown, cross over to Broadway on SE 4th Ave, and continue up Broadway to River Mill Elementary School. In past years, the parade has featured vintage cars, tractors, hot rods, logging trucks, floats, animals, bands, and a Boy Scout color guard. This year’s parade, dubbed "Remember When" will also include first responders and members of the Forest Service. The parade lasts about an hour.

Boston's main event returns for the first time since 2019! Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops will be at the Esplanade performing their acclaimed Fireworks Spectacular that includes the Tanglewood Festival Chorus and the Middlesex County Volunteers Fifes & Drums. The program will be live from the stage of the Hatch Memorial Shell on the Charles River Esplanade Shed, and will be broadcast locally on Channel 7.

Boston 4th of July Harborfest parade goes down the street

Boston Harborfest
Boston Harborfest, the decades-old tradition celebrating Boston’s harbor and history, makes it 2022 debut with exciting activities at Boston’s best landmarks. This family-friendly event is one of the country’s largest Fourth of July festivals, and local families can enjoy the opening ceremony in Downtown Crossing, historical reenactments, Freedom Trail walks, boat tours, live entertainment and much more.

Good to know: The Harborfest Fireworks display is scheduled for July 2, 2022. Be sure to catch the family-friendly pre-fireworks concert at Christopher Columbus Park first.

246th Independence Day Celebration
City Hall Plaza is the starting point of this short parade that passes by the Granary Burial Ground, where wreaths will be laid on the graves of patriots. The parade continues through Downtown Crossing past other historical spots before the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company reads the Declaration of Independence.

Independence Day Parades & Festivals Beyond Boston

Plymouth's 4th of July Celebration
If a fun run, parade, food trucks, concerts and fireworks are the way you want to celebrate the 4th, head to Plymouth to enjoy the festivities. The 5K starts bright and early and is followed by a fun-filled parade. Round out your trip south with live music and food trucks before fireworks light up the sky over the harbor at dusk.

Fireworks at Polar Park
Take the kids out to a ballgame with a side of fireworks after the last pitch flies at Polar Park. Home of Boston's minor league team, the WooSox, Polar Park will be hosting patriotic-themed fireworks for fans to enjoy from the stands when the WooSox take on the Scranton Railriders.

Lexington Lions’ 4th of July Carnival
The carnival is in town and families will be able to enjoy rides, games, food and fun at this annual event starting June 30 through July 4. Fireworks are scheduled for July 1 at 9:30 p.m., and families will also catch youth games on July 4 at 10 a.m.

Seafair Summer Fourth

Seafair Summer Fourth
If your family’s endurance is high and you don’t mind crowds, Seafair Summer Fourth is the big show in town, and it's back in-person this year. The folks at Seafair promise to make this Independence Day celebration (a Seattle tradition at Gas Works Park for more than 25 years) one to remember. The gates open at 3 p.m., and starting at 5 p.m., families can enjoy a variety of entertainment, including field games and inflatables in the Kids Zone, live music and  fantastic food. Plus, everyone will love the glow-in-the-dark dance party that leads up to a spectacular fireworks show over Lake Union.

Good to know: Seafair Summer Fourth offers several free and reserved seating options and multiple vantage points to enjoy the show, Lake Union for an overhead view, Gas Works Park for a hilltop view, and Lake Union Park for a darker sky view. Each location offers its own unique experience.

Bellevue Family 4th
For over 30 years Bellevue Family 4th has been a fave for Eastside kids and families, and this year is no exception. Make a beeline for the Kids Zone where you'll find entertainment, activities and a kids area when the party starts at 5 p.m. After the sun goes down, settle in for a spectacular fireworks show set to the sounds of the Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra and plan to stay late for the post fireworks show concert.

Tacoma's signature 4th of July celebration is back, with a blast. And families can choose from two locations to celebrate. “Celebrate Kirkland, Together Again” is the theme of this year’s 4th of July celebration in Kirkland. After a hiatus this popular Eastside event is back, so bring your favorite "ride" (think trikes, bikes and strollers) to the Marina Park Pavilion at 10:30 a.m. to get them decorated for the kid's parade that follows. An Edmonds Kind of 4th
Downtown Edmonds is hosting lots of family-friendly events downtown to make your Fourth of July a memorable one. If running is your thing, register for the Baby Brackett 1K or see if you can beat Ol' Man Brackett in the timed, 5K race that morning. Strollers are allowed for this race, but dogs are not. The hometown races are followed by a sweet Children's Parade at 11:30 a.m. and the main event at noon.

Good to know: Lots of advance registration is required, so make your plans early. Also, there won't be a fireworks show happening in 2022.

The Franklin Institute

Enter the Wizarding World
Don't just watch Harry Potter - become Harry Potter. Grab your robe and practice Defense Against the Dark Arts, brew potions and use their wands to perform spells. Take a Family Boat Cruise
Many boat tour and kayak companies in Chicago host special 4th of July firework cruises on Lake Michigan and the Chicago River. These tours are a great way to get front-row seats to the action, with the Chicago skyline serving as a gorgeous backdrop.
