Oct. 1-31: Babies love looking at the animals, and bringing your adorable costumed little monkey for a photo op with the real monkeys is a memory you’ll treasure always. Carved at Descanso Gardens
Oct. 7-31: Carved is a family-friendly event for all ages (not just toddlers but this age group will get an absolute kick out of the various installations, sculptures and treats along the way. For three weeks in Oct., thousands of carved pumpkins will line a 1-mile walk through the Camellia Forest and Oak Grove. Along with pumpkins, there will be exciting new oversized sculptures made of sticks and other natural materials. New Spider Pavilion at the South Coast Botanic Garden
Oct. 1 through Nov. 30: New arthropods will be calling the area home as hundreds of live spiders take over the pavilion. Guests (for an additional fee much like to see the butterflies) can enter the pavilion for 30 minutes to be surrounded by orb-weaving spiders. And while these spiders will be living freely in the pavilion, there will be some additional tarantulas inside glass cases. Check out the Spider Wall that will educate guests about the brown widow, which was “discovered” in Torrance in 2003 as an invasive species on the West Coast. Event details.

Stone Mountain Pumpkin Festival

This year at the Stone Mountain Pumpkin Festival you can play all day and glow all night. After the sun goes down, the jack-o-lanterns light up, a sillier-than-spooky Nighttime Parade commences, and you'll find plenty of other not-so-spooky glowing experiences. Although not really a haunted house, it is a little spooky at night will all the glowing jack-o-lanterns, and it's a fun event for the little ones.

Pine Mountain Ghost Train

Take a train of terror (and one of not-so-terror). The Family Time train is designed with younger guests in mind, and is meant to be nonthreatening and fun. Scare Time begins at sunset when the ghosts and ghouls of Pine Mountain are set loose to haunt. A total of three trains will depart every hour beginning at 6:20 each night. Closing time varies nightly – make sure to check! Ticket reservations are not required, but are highly recommended. Tickets are available on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights in October.

The Village Haunted Attraction

The Village is an outdoor haunt experience at the Renaissance Festival grounds that takes visitors on a tour of a village that has been cursed by evil forces. The residents have been acting strangely, and are mutating into creatures with a taste for human flesh! Haunted Forest at the Buford Corn Maze

The Buford Corn Maze is an Atlanta Halloween tradition. Between the hayride, the bounce house, the pony rides, and the corn box (not to mention the five-acre corn maze), there's plenty here to entertain without the spook factor. But if your older kids are ready for a scary Halloween, come on Friday or Saturday night, when the haunted forest is open from 8 p.m. until midnight. Kids of all ages are allowed, but use your best judgement, and you'll need to accompany kids under 8. It's $16 for the corn maze, haunted or regular.

Kids Boo Fest at Six Flags

Timing your Six Flags visit is the key to serving up just the right amount of horror for the kids. During daylight hours, the festive Kids Boo Fest (Sep. 17-Oct. 30) is a chance for families to get treats in Trick-or-Treat Town, watch Halloween-themed shows, and jump on one of two hayrides. Once night falls, it's time for Fright Fest with terror-filled rides and wandering monsters and zombies. This one's not for the faint of heart. For families with various ages, keep the little ones in the scare-free kid zone while the big kids go exploring after dark, or stick to the day time events to keep it family-friendly.

Pumpkins in the Park
One of our favorite Boston Halloween events, families can enjoy Halloween-themed games and activities, a costume parade, spooky music by Nate the DJ, and more. Then hit the pumpkin-lit Animal Nocturnal Trail, a short walk through the woods dotted with fun facts about the nocturnal animals found at Bird Park. Along the trail, four “nocturnal animals” hand out candy to tick-or-treaters, so remember to wear your costume and bring a trick-or-treat bag and flashlight. Oct. 22, 2022. Event details.

Zoo Howl
Animals and Halloween adventures await families at Franklin Park Zoo's Zoo Howl, where kids are invited to trick-or-treat among the animals. We love to get weird with the kids (aren’t family costumes the best?) and head out into the city in search of goodies and the coolest carved pumpkins around. So plan to take that costume out for a spin at the zoo, OMSI, and even the symphony before your little pumpkin dons it for the main event on Halloween.

Howloween at the Zoo
You don't want to miss this Halloween event Portland families come back for year after year. The zoo provides a fun and safe setting for this local tradition, where costumed trick-or-treaters learn about healthy habitats for wildlife in a fun scavenger hunt throughout the zoo. Your little animal lovers will enjoy seeing the animals and learning all about conservation while filling their buckets, too. From scary to sweet, Chicago has it all this October. Bonus: many of the family-friendly Halloween events around the city are free!

Here in Chicago, Halloween seems to last the entire month of October, and for many that makes it the most wonderful time of the year. And considering how questionable fall weather can be, it gives everyone the chance to get in on the fun. If one parade or trick-or-treating event gets cancelled due to weather, you have several more to choose from.

So, take a break from getting lost and found in corn mazes and working your way around all the harvest festivals Chicago has to offer to focus on more faboolous fun. Upside Down Halloween Parade
The 2022 Upside Down Halloween Parade, presented by LUMA8 and the City of Chicago, is a bit off-kilter. Six Flags Great America Fright Fest
Go early to admire the Halloween decorations and seasonal menu items. Stay for the rides, live shows, the Monster Bash (an interactive Halloween party for tiny goblins), and the trick-or-treating on Saturdays and Sundays. The New York Botanical Garden has a packed Fall events calendar, with tons of seasonal harvest- and Halloween-themed programs and special attractions:

Oct. 15 & 16: Join the Pumpkin Carving Face-off Weekend to design your own pumpkin or watch three pumpkin carving masters face off for the most intricate—and terrifying—creation.
Oct. 22 & 23: It’s the Pumpkin Parade Weekend! Wear your best costume and participate in a festiva parade in the garden. Kids can help decorate before the parade, then check out giant pumpkins, watch a pumpkin carving demonstration, and learn about how growers get their pumpkins to grow to such enormous sizes.

Halloween on the Farm at the Queens County Farm Museum
Celebrate Halloween on NYC’s oldest working farm. Get lost (or rather, try not to) in the Amazing Maize Maze, a three-acre labyrinth among corn stalks. Your ticket also includes access to a spooky farmhouse, Halloween hayrides, a DJ dance party, an Adopt-a-Worm composting program, and a trick-or-treating event with the farm animals, which sends you on a hunt to find nine special stations throughout the farm. Haunted Island Race at Governors Island
Celebrate in style and stay in shape at the same time at the annual Haunted Island Race. The race offers both a 5K and a 10K option, and awards will be given out to the best runners by gender (male, female, non-binary) and age brackets. The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze at Van Cortlandt Manor
This amazing display features over 7,000 lit Jack o-Lanterns, arranged into sculptures from architectural marvels to dinosaurs and the Statue of Liberty. Expect bright synchronized lights, jaw-dropping displays, and an original soundtrack. And yes, they’re real: The pumpkins are designed and carved by a team of artists. This year, the Blaze features an animated “Jack” Smith Shop and glowing bees.

Tickets are selling out fast, with some nights already unavailable or limited to a small number of tickets. If you’re considering attending this event, you’ll want to secure your tix sooner rather than later! The Blaze is coming to Long Island, too—buy tickets for that here.

Brick-or-Treat Presents Monster Party
LEGOLANDs across the nation are partying for Halloween, but unique to the New York location is that it will be debuting the world’s first wheelchair-accessible giant LEGO pumpkin! Not only that, the Monster Party will transform the Dragon Coaster into the “Disco Dragon Coaster” complete with a groovy monster soundtrack and party lights. Halloween Fest at the Liberty Science Center
The Halloween Fest is back and it’s better than ever, full to the brim with both indoor and outdoor activities. Pick out your favorite pumpkin at NJ’s largest indoor pumpkin picking patch—or just take a peek inside of one with an endoscope! Beyond the patch, you’ll learn about creepy crawlies like roaches, spiders, scorpions, and millipedes, as well as traditionally “spooky” Halloween icons like bats and skeletons. The Count’s Halloween Spooktacular at Sesame Place
A good choice for the tiniest of trick-or-treaters, Sesame Place is turned into a family-friendly Halloween haven between September 17 and November 6. Guests can trick-or-treat around the park, take in Halloween-themed shows and parades, participate in an interactive Scarecrow Scavenger Hunt, and take advantage of unique photo opportunities with Sesame’s furry friends dressed up in costume on Halloween-themed floats! Pride Month has arrived in Seattle! With it comes an array of family-friendly events that not only let you celebrate, but also let you and the kids show your support for our LGBTQIA+ community. It’s a chance to come together and watch parades, join in festivals and acknowledge the progress that’s been made working toward equity for the LGBTQIA+ community in Seattle and beyond. From events at the zoo and a fun run for families to the return of Seattle’s beloved Pride Parade downtown, here’s where you and the kids can celebrate and show your Pride in June.

Seattle Pride Parade

Join over 400,000 of your besties to watch the Seattle Pride Parade as it wraps up Pride Month on the last weekend of June. Family Reunion is the theme, and after being on hold for the last two years, everyone is ready to celebrate its return. The parade starts at 4th & Pike and ends at 2nd Avenue & Denny Way. Expect performers, community groups and civic leaders to be featured along the parade route. Once the parade is over, head to PrideFest at Seattle Center to keep the party going. Three stages, hundreds of acts and plenty of dancing in the International Fountain (let's hope it a sunny day!) are what you'll find at this popular annual event that welcomes everyone.

Capitol Hill Events

During the last weekend in June, Capitol Hill is the place to be for Pride celebrations, events and activities for kids and families. It all kicks off with PrideFest Capitol Hill, with activations from Pine Street to Roy Street. The Station Plaza is where Family Pride (1-3 p.m.) and Queer Youth Pride (3-5 p.m.) events are taking place. You'll find rainbow-themed events for families, including books, crafts, giveaways and more. Come back the next day for the Capitol Hill Pride Rally, March & BBQ. Besides some of the best BBQ around, families can expect a doggie drag costume contest and arty putt putt, as long as the weather cooperates. Hint: this one is going on all month long.

White Center Pride Festival

The main "drag" in White Center will be shut down for this Pride street festival. It's a day of music, queer vendors, beer gardens and a pet pride parade so that everyone in the family can show off their colors. People will be dancing in the streets, exciting performers will be on stage throughout the day and the famous balloon chain (from Bumbershoot and Coachella) will be included in the day's events too.

Pride at the Zoo

Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is showing its pride at this colorful event at the zoo. Throughout the day animals will enjoy rainbow-theme enrichments at unscheduled times. Kids can go on a Pride-themed scavenger hunt around the zoo, and can join in the pride animal parade (1:30 p.m.), leaving from the Wild Wonders stage. The Eastside is where you'll find this colorful Pride event, happening again this year. Kirkland Urban's Pride Parade around the promenade features all kinds of kid-friendly eye candy like acrobats, breakdancers and roller skaters performing. Plus, they can get airbrush tattoos, face paints and balloons while they're dancing to the live DJ spinning tunes. Add in a drag queen show and Instagram installations to round out your Pride adventure.

Taking B(l)ack Pride

QTBIPOC families in the Seattle area can head to the Seattle Center Mural Amphitheater for Seachella 2022. Celebrate Pride with Seattle's Sports Teams

You can celebrate Pride month with your favorite Seattle sports teams too. Over Pride weekend, the Storm will take on the LA Sparks during a special themed night. Later in the month, you can score tickets to the M's at T-Mobile Park, where they'll be celebrating Pride with special swag and more on June 30. Finally, let it Reign rainbows on July 1 at Lumen Field.

Not so into watching a game? Try a Pride Public Skate at the Kraken Community Iceplex to add flair to your family fun night. They're hosting two events (June 18 & 19) , where families can skate on rainbow ice to their favorite tunes. We hear there will be a few giveaways too!

Families participate in a Pride 5K in Seattle pride events — Brooks

Run & Walk with Pride

Now in its 40th year, the Seattle Run and Walk with Pride event is a chance for gay athletes to compete and give back to their community too. It’s the annual fundraiser for Seattle Frontrunners, a group that supports local non-profits in the LGBTQ community, and it’s a great reason to bring the kids to Seward Park for this fitness-focused Pride event. The 5K is super family-friendly, but don’t let that deter you from running the 10K, if you’re up to it. Families can also participate virtually; simply complete your run any time between June 24 and 27.

Good to know: Although Rainbow storytime won’t be back in-person this year, families can stream this special Pride storytime with SPL whenever they’ve got time.
