Looking for an NYC restaurant that serves up major holiday cheer with a side of, you know, food? Nearly a dozen New York City restaurants do Christmas decorations with extra flair, from elegant to over-the-top, year after year. Whether you want a quick bite or a big Christmas dinner, this is where you can enjoy the most festive decorations while you dine. Understated, need not apply. And if you’re still hungry for more twinkle, cap off your meal by seeing a holiday lights display nearby. If, however, the garland and mistletoe and blinking lights are too much (is there such a thing?!), you can always try a fun non-holiday-themed restaurant instead.
Get cozy in one of the rooftop cabins at the Seaport District's The Greens. With floor-to-ceiling views, virtual fireplaces, room for 10, and real heat, the cabins aim to offer a little bit of "upstate downtown." Make sure to order the jumbo s'mores for dessert.
Forget heading to a ski chalet. Instead, head downtown to Industry Kitchen, an industrial chic space located at the South Street Seaport, for some of the most extensive holiday decorations in town. We’re talking 5,000 square feet of sparkling lights, Christmas greenery, giant reindeer families on the terrace, snow-flocked Christmas trees, and wreaths along with two tall nutcrackers at the entryway. And then there are the tasty treats your kids will go love such as Gingernut Pizza with a ginger crust, eggnog frosting, and so much more. Yum!
At Lillie’s Victorian Establishment in Times Square, you’ll feel like you walked onto the Love, Actually set. It’s so festive in this Victorian-inspired restaurant tucked right in the same block as two Broadway theaters, you won’t want to leave. The place is decorated to the max with thousands of sparkling garlands, tinsel-bright baubles, life-sized Nutcracker soldiers, and bedecked Christmas trees. Your kids will love the chicken fingers (they’re some of the tastiest in the city) or try the buttermilk pancakes if brunch is more your scene. We love Lillie's year-round—it's one of our favorite places for brunch with kids.
The reigning champion of NYC restaurant Christmas decorations, Rolf’s Bar & Restaurant features such awe-inspiring Christmas décor that this German eatery has achieved bucket-list status for most New Yorkers. Order up some potato pancakes with applesauce (hamburgers and meatloaf are other family-friendly faves) and spend the rest of the meal marveling at the 150,000 antique glass ornaments hanging from the ceiling, and the ancient-looking dolls in between.
For the quintessential Christmas in New York, head to this Central Park landmark. Tavern on The Green brings the Yuletide cheer with glistening décor including its very own 20-foot Christmas tree with over 2,000 ornaments and 10,000 lights. The bar room is full of greenery, a Christmas tree, and lights, and boughs and lights adorn the exterior of the restaurant as well. Adding to the scene is the frequent live jazz, and you and the kids can warm up after a jaunt in the park with spiced cider or hot chocolate.
For holiday decor with a Parisian flair and a side of pommes frites, head to the elegant La Grande Boucherie. Celebrated for its authentic French cuisine, the restaurant is decorated in an Art Nouveau style and features slim, twinkling trees and a large evergreen decked out for the holidays. It's big—designed to accommodate as many as 400 guests. (Heated floors in this area keep things toasty.) If you're going to MoMa or Radio City, this is a good place to land nearby.
It's true, many people come here to taste the legendary Frrrozen Hot Chocolate, and Serendipity3 is a spirited place to dine any time of year. But for the holidays, the restaurant adds a little extra oomph with colorful garlands made of ornaments for an especially festive interior. Stop by for a meal or to sample of one its over-the-top sundaes.
Serra by Birreria, which takes over Eataly’s entire 14th-floor enclosed rooftop, is a “Winter Greenhouse” dining space that changes with the seasons. Previous years featured the winter wonderland look pictured above, with the restaurant’s ceiling covered with sparkling lights, and a decorated trellis surrounded by snow-covered Christmas trees that would make the best holiday card backdrop. Meanwhile, the menu, featuring the cuisine of the Italian Alps region, offers some tried-and-true kid-approved faves. Desserts are worth saving room for, too.

9. Tom's Restaurant
To be fair, it's kind of always Christmas (and 4th of July) at this Prospect Heights, Brooklyn institution, which has been serving up breakfast all day since 1936. (Many of the decorations, from twinkling lights and tinsel to American flags stay up year-round.) Still, Tom's busts out some extra decorations for the holidays, and the perpetual good cheer and goodwill of the joint gets turned up to 11.
Established in 1864, this Gramercy Park bar and restaurant holds a lot of history. During the holidays, it gets extra cozy with a striking canopy of tiny red lights over the bar, Christmas decorations throughout, and a festive exterior with lights, wreaths, and holiday villages in the windows. The menu includes hearty dishes, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and more. Plus, there's a kid's menu, and they do brunch as well on the weekends.
We definitely approve of an outdoor beer garden that hangs tough during the winter. Bundle up and head to this family-friendly Astoria, Queens spot to feast on traditional Czech and Slovak fare, as well as bites like crab cakes, quinoa salad, and chicken tacos. Of course, the beer list is extensive and diverse!

After jealously ogling the Magic Bands that all the Florida resorts have been using for years, Californians and visitors to the Disneyland Resort can finally pick up their own! Magic Bands are multi-functional bracelets that let you store tons of information, like your entry pass and Lightning Lane reservations.
We love them because there are tons of designs to choose from, everyone can wear their own, and it makes getting into the parks and onto rides where you are redeeming a Lightning Lane pass a cinch. Just hold your band up to the sensor and you're in!
You can enjoy the parks without a Magic Band, just as always. But if you're interested in purchasing your own, they are available all through the parks and start at $35 (and they work at Walt Disney World, too!).
Seasonal Attraction Overlays

Every year, select attractions get a holiday makeover which makes a trip to the parks even more magical. Be sure to hit up "it's a small world" Holiday in all its lit-up glory both inside and out.
The other can't-miss ride is the "Haunted Mansion Holiday" where Jack Skellington has transformed the New Orleans house into his own world.
Get into the holiday spirit in a jiffy with the annual “A Christmas Fantasy” Parade. This daily trek down Main Street U.S.A. boasts everyone's favorite characters, dancing gingerbread cookies and marching toy soldiers, and lots of festive music.
Once it gets dark, snag a spot to catch the “Believe… in Holiday Magic” fireworks show, complete with a “snowfall" and vibrant projections.

Once again, the Festival of Holidays has returned to Disney California Adventure, celebrating Christmas, Navidad, Three Kings Day, Hanukkah, Diwali, and Kwanzaa. From the moment you enter the park, you’ll be greeted with the sights and sounds of this wonderful time of year.
Buena Vista Street welcomes you with a 50-foot Christmas tree, decorated in vintage ornaments and Cars Land has been decked out in whimsical holiday decorations like a tire Christmas Tree. Even Mater has gotten a fun makeover!
Sip and Savor Pass

As you make your way toward Paradise Gardens Park, you’ll be treated to many food and drink options at the Festival Marketplaces. In order to get the full experience, we highly recommend picking up a Sip and Savor Pass. Each one comes with eight tabs that you can redeem on hand-crafted food items and non-alcoholic beverages. It’s a great way to let everyone pick something they want, and the sizes are perfect for sharing when you pick out a few at a time.
We tried a variety of diverse options, and we thoroughly enjoyed the curry mac and cheese, Tikka Masala, Turkey Poutine, and the delicious pumpkin cheesecake!
Family hack:You can place your order for all your food at ONE cart––even if that cart doesn’t carry your menu item. Then, when you’re ready, take your receipt to the correct cart and pick up your food. This way, you only wait in the order line one time!
Entertainment
Disneyland Resort
Disney California Adventure has plenty of family-friendly entertainment, including “Mickey’s Happy Holidays.” This procession brings Disney and Pixar characters together as they dance and march to the sounds of the Holiday Toy Drummers.
The “Disney ¡Viva Navidad!” street party is back this year and features both Mickey and Minnie Mouse wearing fiesta outfits alongside Mexican folklórico dancers, Mariachis, Brazilian samba dancers, percussionists, and giant mojiganga puppets.
If you love the nighttime spectacular, World of Color, get ready for the Season of Light version! This special holiday show brings holiday music and all the special moments from Disney animated films together for an unforgettable and brilliantly lit show. It features lights, lasers, water, fire, and hundreds of fountains, as well as 120 characters in this mesmerizing production set to treasured holiday tunes. Be sure to snag your spot when reservations open on the Disneyland app at 12 p.m. daily.

Festive Attractions

While most of the attractions will remain the same this season (with the exception of some fun decor) you can experience two special seasonal experiences in Cars Land. Be sure to check out Luigi’s Joy to the Whirl, where you can enjoy Luigi’s magically light backyard, as well as Mater’s Jingle Jamboree.

If you have kids, you have baby gates. The second little ones are even slightly mobile, keeping control over where they scoot, crawl, creep, or toddle is absolutely necessary. Especially if they’ve outgrown pack-n-plays (or are absolutely unwilling to hang out in one for more than 37 seconds), finding a safe way to keep them in one place is a must. I’ve been on a mission to find the best baby gate out there.
And I’m not knocking old-fashioned baby gates, but they pretty much only work one way: a single panel to cut off access from one room to another. That’s great, but that still gives little scooters ample opportunity to wreak havoc and, more importantly, potentially get their hands on something less-than-safe. You can see why the Dreambaby Mayfair Converta 3-in-1 Play-Pen Gate looked like, well, a dream, baby! So I gave it a shot. Could it really be the best baby gate?
Our house isn’t open-concept, so my goal at pretty much any given moment is making sure that my 13 month old isn’t heading straight for the stairs. He’s not a highchair fan, even with snacks and a bottle. The option for him to hang out there and give me some time to get stuff done is pretty much nonexistent. I also have my 3 year old and really needed a safe solution for the baby while I deal with the Preschool Drama of the Day (it can get intense).
The Dreambaby Test
Here’s the thing with the Dreambaby Mayfair: it’s not just another one-panel baby gate. It’s a six-panel design that gives me the option to configure it in a bunch of different ways. I figured I’d give the original round playard setup a shot first (about 4’x3′ of playable area for him), and whoa. I didn’t even get a chance to add any toys in it before my little one was playing peek-a-boo between the slats and giggling. That gave me a solid 7 minutes to make lunches for the day while he entertained himself. I could absolutely see getting 15-20 minutes if he had a book and a ball. And (I seriously can’t believe I’m about to say this), if a snack is added to the mix, I can probably get a full 30 minutes of two-handed work done. Uh, where has this been all my parenting life?
The only time he wasn’t happy was when I walked out of the room for a second and he couldn’t see me anymore. That’s something I expect, though, so I’m not surprised that he didn’t love that part.
What I Love
I’m also loving that the Mayfair gives the option of converting from a playard to a traditional baby gate. When set up as a baby gate/room divider/barrier, it’s 147.5″ long and 29″ tall, so it’s much longer than other gates we’ve looked into. The opening into my kitchen is over 8 feet and the Mayfair more than covered it. It’s also a snap to set up! I did it in under 5 minutes, which is perfect since those 5 minutes are precious in Mom Time (you get it).
I’ll be honest: I was a little nervous about a portable playpen being strong enough to withstand my 13 month old. We call him a linebacker—he’s a rough and rowdy little guy. Would the Mayfair hold up if he were to shake it or lean on it? Turns out, I didn’t have to worry at all. This one isn’t going anywhere. It’s the definition of toddler-proof!
I especially appreciate how flexible the Dreambaby Mayfair is. It doesn’t have to be set up in a perfect circle at all; there are almost endless ways to use it. If you have any odd corners or open areas, this is a fantastic solution.
Also, I’ll absolutely be using the Mayfair to protect my Christmas tree and fireplace this season. Not only is it a smart way to keep kiddos at a distance, it’s perfect for preventing pets from getting a little too close to holiday decor.

Christmas in the Park
Santa’s home away from home during the holidays, Christmas in the Park in San Jose’s Plaza de Cesar Chavez, is the heart of downtown San Jose’s holiday celebrations. Santa’s den is located at the north end of the park and the best part? Photos are free and folks are encouraged to bring their own cameras, instead of trying to hide behind a present to snap the moment—we’ve all been there. After visiting Old Saint Nick, get inspired for your own tree with the Enchanted Forest Tree Program—locally-designed Christmas trees and stop by the Jingle Bell Stage for fun, local holiday entertainment.

Santa Arrives via Helicopter at the Hiller Aviation Museum
Join the West Bay Community Band and sing Christmas carols as you watch Santa arrive via helicopter at 10:00 a.m. He will be available, after, to listen to your kid's Christmas wish list.

Celebrate the most wonderful time of the year, at LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Bay Area. During this always fun holiday celebration, kids get to enjoy seasonal build activities like make your own LEGO stocking, go on a scavenger hunt to spot all the gingerbread houses hidden within the Center, along with enjoying all the sparkling holiday decor throughout the Center. Cocoa and Cookies with Black Santa
Enjoy a cup of hot cocoa, holiday treats, and meet Santa at La Concordia Wellness Center. You can take your own photos with Santa or there will be some helpful elves on-site to take photos for you so everyone can be in on the fun.
Children's Fairyland transforms into Fairy Winterland at night throughout the month of Dec. with thousands of lights and all-inclusive mutlti-cultural celebrations including Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Las Posadas, Diwali and Chinese New Year. This year, look for the culturally-inclusive holiday scavenger hunt, special performances, and of course, free hot cocoa and cider. Black Santa will kick off the Festival of Lights Parade (each kid will receive a treat!) at 6:30 p.m. each night and will visit with children after. Don't forget to drop your "Letter to Santa" in the mailbox at the Chapel of Peace.
Good to Know: If you miss your chance to visit with Santa before Christmas, he'll still be hanging out here before heading back to the North Pole from Dec. 26-30 for the "Thank You, Santa" nights.

Visit Rosemont for festive activities for the whole family to enjoy. After all, the village's slogan is "It's All Here," and no time is this truer than during the winter holidays. From ice skating at the Chicago Wolves Ice Rink in Parkway Bank Park, to a visit with Santa while getting all your shopping done at the Fashion Outlets of Chicago, there's no escaping the holiday feels. And when you need a break from finding gifts for your fam, there are endless dining and entertainment options to choose from, too. Not to be missed is the Sparkle Light Festival lights display (Nov. 23-Jan. 1) at Impact Field. The popular festival will include five illuminated villages with millions of sparkling lights, custom 3D holiday features, an ice tube slide, a holiday train adventure, and plenty of festive food and drinks. Winterland at Gallagher Way is sure to be better than ever this year. While the Christkindlmarket Wrigleville and Santa's Workshop will remain on the outside of Wrigley Field, they are being joined by a carousel. Head into Winterland within Wrigley Field to hop on the ice for skating or ice bumper cars. Surrounding the ice rink will be rides including a Wintertube, Hot Cocoa Cups, a Winter Whirl, and the Infield Express train. There will also be some season-themed carnival games, fire pits, and rentable private chalets.
Holiday Tree and Menorah Lighting Ceremonies in and around Chicago
What better way to usher in the holiday season than by attending a tree or menorah lighting ceremony and witnessing first hand the joy on everyone’s faces as these holiday symbols are illuminated.
In the center of the 900 N. Michigan Shops, a 50-foot-tall tree will be lit by Santa himself. Accompanying Santa will be activities such as sugar-cookie decorating, live holiday performances, and take an “Elfie” with The Real Elf. Click here for tickets. Children 10 and under are free. Chicago Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Millenium Park
Kick off the holiday season at the 109th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. The Millenium Park Christmas tree is considered the "official" Chicago tree. There will be performances by a DJ and Cabaret ZaZou, Son Monarcas, Broadway In Chicago: Wicked’s Lissa deGuzman “Elphaba” and Jennafer Newberry “Glinda” singing “For Good”, Jumaane Taylor and Chicago Human Rhythm Project's Stone Soup Rhythms; and special guests Dreezy Claus and Sister Claus preceding the lighting at 6pm. The lighting will be followed by fireworks and a performance by Adia, an Electric Violinist and DJ.
Rosemont’s Parkway Bank Park entertainment district kicks off the holiday season with its Light Up the Park event. A variety of family-friendly festivities will be available from 2-6 p.m., including visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, free horse-drawn sleigh rides, carolers, and ice sculpting viewing. The 80,000 holiday lights will be lit, for the first time, at 5:30 p.m. The ice rink will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Parkway Bank Park’s restaurants and entertainment venues will also be open throughout the day.
The event will take place at the intersection of Lincoln, Southport, and Wellington outside of St. Alphonsus Church, and it will include holiday tunes and carolers, festive gift bags, and surprise appearances from Elsa, Olaf, and Santa. Enjoy complimentary hot cocoa, coffee, and donuts.
Celebrate with a night of festive fun as the holiday lights are turned on at North School Park. There will be tons of family fun. The Dance-Along Nutcracker is any budding ballerina's dream come true, with the opportunity to participate in a short workshop with Ballet Chicago, and then watch them perform an abbreviated version of the classic ballet at eye level. The dancers are accompanied by the Lakeside Pride Symphonic Band under the gorgeous rotunda of the Chicago Cultural Center. The tiny dancers are frequently invited on stage to twirl, leap, and sachet alongside the professionals. This year's details have not yet been announced, but be on the lookout!
The Music Institute of Chicago presents its holiday tradition, Duke It Out! Nutcracker, featuring the classical (Tchaikovsky) and jazz (Duke Ellington/Billy Strayhorn) versions of the holiday favorite in a music and dance performance. The performance is a family-friendly 60 minutes and is preceded by an interactive musical instrument "petting zoo." For those who can't attend in person, the show is also available via livestream.

Reserve a time to choose and cut the perfect Christmas tree at this farm near Dallas where the kids will love to visit year after year. They only accept cash or checks, so come prepared, and check their Facebook page for updates. This is also a great spot for photos among the trees, but remember to reach out and make an appointment.
Here you can cut your own tree or choose from pre-cut Noble Firs. You may even find the perfect painted Christmas tree for a holiday of a different color. In the past, they've been open the Friday after Thanksgiving until they sell out, but check the website for updates.

Dec. 9-11: Experience an all-new San Diego holiday tradition by watching the 2nd annual Noel Noel show at the beautiful Rady Shell. This new one-of-a-kind outdoor venue sits along the bay front and projects gorgeous images onto the "shell" throughout the performance. You'll be able to follow along with the storyline as it's told through favorite holiday tunes.
Select Dates Nov. 22-Dec. 24: The holiday classic A Christmas Carol will transport you into the Victorian era for a tale of hope and redemption at Christmas time. This production features original music, creative stagecraft and live sound effects for a unique storytelling experience that will delight the whole family.
Good to Know: Children under five years old are not permitted in the theater during performances.
Nov. 14-Jan. 8: Christmas Celebration is filled with fun holiday-themed animal and entertainment shows, special food and drink items, Santa photos, acres of beautiful decorations and a lighted musical tunnel that you can dance and sing your way through.

Dec. 9-Jan. 1: Stroll around the Zoo & Safari Park at night under the sights & sounds of holiday cheer. Jungle Bells at the San Diego Zoo will light up your night with the animals as you stroll around the zoo listening to live music and carolers. Catch a Christmas story time, find the holiday trampoline jumpers, traipse through the Northern Frontier Holiday Forest and be mystified at the Aurora light spectacular show.
Wild Holidays at Safari Park
Select Dates Nov. 25-Jan. 1: Wild Holidays at the Safari Park will let you travel to far away places that glow and twinkle with holiday tunes, seasonal food and decor. Catch a holiday story time, walk through the bridge of lights and the lantern walk and wave to the firefly stilt walkers.
Good to Know: All of the holiday activities start after 3:30pm. Both are included in admission and memberships.
Select Dates Nov. 18-Jan. 1: Wander through the gardens after dark in this enchanting illuminated 1-mile trail. You’ll see over one million twinkling lights, eye-catching glowing art installations, colors and sounds that have been custom designed for this garden. Kids will enjoy roasting marshmallows over fire and sipping hot chocolate.

Dec. 2 & 3: The City of San Diego's December Nights is back this year in Balboa Park. This free, family friendly event brings San Diegans together to enjoy the lights, the sounds, the attractions and of course, the amazing food.
Dec. 8-Jan. 1: Snow-N-Glow is back this year for snow-tubing down the giant slides with real snow! Wander around the one million twinkling lights, seasonal eats & drinks, roast s’mores over community fire pits, and even book a private “igloo” with fire pit and have fresh snow delivered to you for a private snow play experience.

Select Dates Dec. 1-23: The Annual Holiday Market Trail at Petco Park is back and this year the popular market will be bigger and better with even more food, beverage and artisan vendors. The Holiday Market in Gallagher Square is a fun night for the whole family and will feature local and European artisan shops, magical lighting displays, seasonal food and beverage, a carousel, Santa and other holiday characters!

Truly a San Diego local’s holiday event is to catch one of the (free!) boat parades floating by with each vessel all decked out in lights and holiday decor. Dress warmly, BYO blankets and chairs to sit on, grab some take-out and bring your hot chocolate for a fun night. Note: there may not be bathrooms nearby where you’re sitting so plan ahead. PS: Check their websites for the routes, best places to park and more logistical intel.
Throughout Dec.: Make some hot cocoa, turn on the holiday tunes, buckle up, and go for a drive to enjoy dazzling Christmas light displays around various neighborhoods. There are lots of well-known neighborhoods that really go all out with their holiday decorating. These neighborhoods are always worth the drive.
